Sekiro™: Shadows Die Twice - GOTY Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

FromSoftware’s next third-person hack n’ slasher – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – now has a release date for PC. Due to launch on March 22nd, 2019, Sekiro looks like a blend of some of the long-running Japanese studio’s greatest hits. It’s hard not to see equal inspiration taken from both Bloodborne and the Tenchu series in there, complete with grappling hooks, rooftop navigation and lots of very sharp swords. Plus a few giant monsters, of course – can’t have a proper ninja game without them.

Underworld Ascendant - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Several years after escaping the dungeon hell of Kickstarter but a little later than planned, Underworld Ascendant has announced a release date of November 15th. Y’know, the action-RPG coming from OtherSide Entertainment? Y’know, the studio co-founded by Ultima Underworld designer Paul Neurath and Deus Ex director Warren Spector? Y’know, whose legacies are felt in immersive sim-y elements from sneaking to stacking boxes to pass obstacles? That one, them lot, that stuff. Have a gander in the new trailer fresh out of Gamescom today.

It’s been a long time coming, but Nvidia have finally lifted the lid on their next generation of Turing GeForce graphics cards – and man alive are they mindbogglingly impressive. Announced this evening at their GeForce Gaming Celebration event in Cologne ahead of this year’s Gamescom, the successors to Nvidia’s GTX 10-series will be led by the mighty GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080, whose real-time ray-tracing tech and other fancy gubbins yoinked from Nvidia’s professional Quadro RTX cards make them by far the best graphics cards I’ve ever clapped eyes on.

Below, you’ll find everything Nvidia had to say about their new Turing cards at tonight’s unveiling, including the RTX 20-series’ price, specs and tantalizing release date, but the only thing you really need to know is this: Turing is much, much more than just another incremental update. The next generation of graphics cards is well and truly here.

Windjammers for the Neo Geo was a lovely little thing – a bright and summery frisbee-sport hybrid of tennis, volleyball and a fighting game. While it wasn’t a huge hit in its own time, Dotemu have announced that they’re working on Windjammers 2, due out on PC in 2019. While an improbable game to get a sequel, it’s likely due to a resurgence of interest in the game across YouTube and streaming services. Despite its age, Windjammers is a rising star in the fighting game scene, too.

EVE Online - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Curt Adrano)

Hello, I m Curt, and I am the editor of a space newspaper. New Eden Report covers events and conflicts from the Icelandic space MMO Eve Online, known for its player-run universe (or the time $300,000 worth of spaceships died). Many non-Eve players may be aware of these large fights, the ones that make it to mainstream gaming media. For instance, the recent rout where hundreds of supercapitals (the largest and most expensive ships in the game) were forced to stay logged off while they were hellcamped . But we cover even more than that. Whether it s roundups of the galaxy s conflicts, in-depth battle reports, video updates, or interviews with space warlords, we provide news on events that might otherwise fall into obscurity. This isn t always easy in a secretive meta-game known for its back-stabbing and propaganda. (more…)

Space Hulk: Tactics - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

When I say “Space”, you say “Hulk”.

SPACE!(HULK!)>

SPACE!(HULK!)>

When I say “is due out October 9th, publishers Focus Home announced today”, you say “What’s this one about?”

Space (HULK!)>: Tactics is due out October 9th, publishers Focus Home announced today. (What’s this one about?)> This latest adaptation of the venerated Games Workshop tabletop wargame does that same ol’ top-down turn-based tactical thing, only this time with the twist of special power-up cards. You can catch fleeting glimpses of this Space Marine vs. Tyranid action in a new trailer below.

HITMAN™ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

All the missions of Hitman‘s first season will be updated and playable within Hitman 2, IO Interactive announced today. Which is great. This will give the missions news ways to do murders, as well as a little extra visual fanciness and new modes. Which sounds pretty chuffing great. IO do specify that season one owners will get the revamped counterparts in Hitman 2 for free, so it sounds like newcomers will need to pay for ’em. They call this principle of unified murder “World Of Assassination”, which is probably meant to sound grand but does mostly remind me of Truck Simulator’s World Of Trucks.

Nvidia’s big Gamescom surprise is almost upon us, and you can watch every single minute of it right here from the comfort of your own browser. Will we finally see Nvidia’s GeForce Turing graphics cards, or will everything centre on Nvidia’s BFGDs / Big Format Gaming Displays? Well, we won’t have to wait long to find out, as everything kicks off at 6pm CET (that’s 5pm UK time, or 10am PDT) at Cologne’s Palladium.

Flotilla - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Quadrilateral Cowboy and Thirty Flights Of Loving superstar Brendon Chung of Blendo Games has released Flotilla 2, a VR-only sequel to 2010’s tidy turn-based tactical spaceship battler. Yes, you’ll need Rift or Vive cybergoggles if you want to jaunt across space with a rag-tag group of spaceships. That leaves me out but, as someone who likes the first one, I do still hope goggheads juice their central processing meats hard on this.
