A Witcher 3 Easter Egg that players believe references the world of Cyberpunk 2077 has, several years later, started to become a bit of a headache for the latter s game director, Adam Badowski. It turns out that a lot of people are hoping to bump into Ciri as they explore the futuristic streets of Night City, but Badowski is putting his foot down.

The final member of our troika of new hires is revealed: it’s Alice Bell, our new deputy editor! The RPS hivemind is restored – and the long national nightmare of me having no one to delegate to is over. (more…)

I can barely look at screenshots of PC Building Simulator without sweating. Putting together my real PC was a singularly awful experience that I m not looking forward to replicating. I m the sort of person who could set fire to an office just by swapping out some RAM. Anyway! PC Building Simulator got an update today, introducing overclocking. Oh dear, I m sweating again. BattleTech might have stomped its way straight onto the turn-based mech combat throne, but while its central torso was strong and mighty, its outer armour sported a few noticeable holes. We’d been promised a patch that would introduce speed-up options for those who crave ’em (hello!), along with tackling its weirdly greedy GPU needs and adding new difficulty toggles for battle-scarred veterans who can blow through the campaign with their battle-scarred eyes closed.
Well, it’s here now. BattleTech v1.1 does a lot more than that, and the game feels and runs so much better for it, as well as providing me with a bunch of strong reasons to start a brand new campaign. That said, I’m not totally enamoured by exactly how they’ve implemented the speed toggles. (more…)

My spaceship has taken off. This ought to be cause for celebration, a moment that engenders cheers from mission control. Except there’s a problem: I m not in the cockpit. I d been looking at the ship s log in the back and considering my next journey when suddenly the whole ship just rose up. Oh no, I say, as the sensation of free fall kicks in. No no no no no. I run back to the cockpit and look around. The ground outside is still there, the trees and the grass. This is odd, because it s also pitch black – we re definitely in space. This is when I realise: My ship didn t take off. The entire island did.
This is space exploration game Outer Wilds. And I have no time to understand how the whole island on which I’ve parked has been launched into space, because it s already falling back down. I need to take off, right now. (more…)

If you ve not had time to sit down and watch the 30 minute Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden demo from March, you re missing out on wise-cracking ducks and XCOM-like post-apocalyptic tactics. You re busy, though. I understand. And there are so many games to look at. Good news, then: Mutant Year Zero s first game footage trailer is out, clocking in at a brisk 1:26. Slap your eyes on it, below. (more…)

An update is coming to Street Fighter V on June 25 that will bring with it changes to the survival mode and introduce a new way to get cosmetics and consumables. The Fighting Chance system will let you purchase fortune readings from Menat, containing random goodies. They ll cost 500 fight money, which can be earned by playing the game. (more…)

Peeling back the mysteries of matchmaking is a bold move. Leave them covered up, and they can be a safe source of general dissatisfaction where everyone’s free to moan about whatever’s happening to their season ranking. Throw back those covers, and everyone can specifically tell you why they think the system is dumb – and why it’s to blame for their crummy ranking. That and the fact that they only ever get matched with noobs, obviously.
Overwatch dev Scott Mercer correctly decided to ignore that subset of ‘complain no matter what-ers’, and has written a detailed forum post explaining exactly what factors into matchmaking. (more…)

Ever since I got to play around with a Vive headset last year, I’ve been setting aside money for a VR setup of my own, along with a list of games I want to play on it. Carly and the Reaperman: Escape from the Underworld by Swedish indie outfit Odd Raven Studios launched today, and just from a quick peek at the launch trailer within, I knew this was making The List. It’s a charming gothic co-op puzzle platformer, with one player on PC with a regular gamepad, and the other one manipulating the world from above in VR as a giant floating skull and hands.

This is The Mechanic, where Alex Wiltshire invites developers to discuss the difficult journeys they ve taken to make their games. This time, Far: Lone Sails [official site].
It s there when you first start the engine, in the hiss of steam as you press the ignition button and the rumble as the great wheels begin to turn. Then the music swells and you know the journey has begun.
Far: Lone Sails is a game by Okomotive about piloting a giant land boat across a destroyed landscape, about tending a huge machine through unpropitious conditions: hail and storms, fires, failure and shortages of fuel. And a great deal of your understanding of its colossal workings comes through sound, with music which responds to your actions and many layers of looping sound effects which subtly change shape as you trundle through a vast wilderness.
