PAYDAY 2 - OVERKILL_Tobias

Do the crime, don't do the time
We are now live with PAYDAY 2 VR in the main game, which means no more switching to the Beta branch for our VR players. We have gotten to a point where we need to continue the work integrated into the full game. Therefore we’d like to invite all of you VR heisters to come and try all the cool features we’ve been working on. Heist together with all your Vive, Oculus or Desktop friends.

Nearly the entire game is now unlocked and available to our VR heisters, with a few exceptions that are still in development. Play all heists with just about all weapons that are available in the game. Bring a sniper rifle with a magnified scope to cover your friends from afar, or why not stand on the front line with an LMG and a rocket launcher? Afterwards you could blast into the distance in a Longfellow packed with goats, it’s your choice!

Save Files from the Beta
If you took part in the Beta you may have noticed that it used a separate save file from the main game. When you start PAYDAY 2 after the update, the game will compare your character levels in both branches, main game and VR Beta. If your progress in the VR Beta is higher than in the main game you will get a prompt to overwrite the progress with your VR Beta progress.
If you choose not to overwrite the data, your old desktop progress will be loaded. The game will automatically save once you enter any submenu or visit CrimeNet.

If you think the correct data was not loaded; quit the game immediately and relaunch. If the game did not save before closing, the prompt to load data will appear again.

How to activate the free PAYDAY 2: VR DLC
With this update a new free PAYDAY 2: VR DLC has been added to the PAYDAY 2 Store page. Click download on the DLC store page and it will activate the VR mode. With the DLC active a new prompt will appear everytime you start PAYDAY 2. Here you can choose if you want to play the game in VR or desktop mode.

This popup will appear even if you do not have a VR headset plugged in or Steam VR installed.
You can disable the prompt again by deactivating the PAYDAY 2: VR DLC in your list of DLCs in your steam client. You will need to restart the steam client.

Sniper Rifles and Scopes
We worked on making the experience of using the sniper rifles fun and immersive. Choose which scope suits your playstyle. With different magnification levels on the sights, you can now customize your weapon for every situation. Thanks to VR you can now keep one eye on the enemies and the other on your surroundings.

Riding in Style
Buckle up and slam the pedal to the metal with our new driving system. You simply grab the steering wheel with the left hand and the accelerator (located by the handbrake) with you right hand. In PAYDAY 2 the cars are automatic, not manual. Push the right hand forward and off you go. The hand break can be activated with the right trigger for some sweet drifting.
The system works the same way for motorcycles and boats, except twist the throttle handle to accelerate.

Inventory Belt and customizable layout
The belt inventory can be customized, so adjust the layout of the boxes to suit your playstyle and needs. Boxes can now be moved around and rescaled in size. Additionally you can also move the belt in any direction and scale it.

While adding this functionality we also added a new default layout of the belt. However, if you played previously you will keep the old layout until you reset the belt or make your own one.

In the new layout you will have quick access to the weapon switch and the melee weapon. Deployables (primary and secondary if you have jack of all trades) can be found on the right side with the second deployable closest to you since you have a quick button on the controller for the primary deployable.

Throwables are located on the left, you can also activate throwables by the quick button on the controller. The loot bags are right in front of you, easy at hand when reach the escape van.

Bows and other features to be added later
We have taken the VR Beta to a point where we feel it needs to be integrated into the main game to proceed further.
Even though many things are added or changed in the game since the latest update to the Beta, there is still more work to be done. We will keep up the the development, so stay tune for further VR updates and keep sending us feedback.

There are a few weapons that did not make it into the release such as the bows. We will of course address this going forward.
These weapons that are currently not available to VR players:
  • English Longbow
  • Plainsrider Bow
  • Light Crossbow
  • Heavy Crossbow
  • Pistol Crossbow
  • Little Friend 7.62
  • Chain Whip
  • Weapon Butt (permanently active on the weapon)

Forums and Discord
We will keep the VR Forum on steam for any VR related discussions. Now that VR is part of the main game all bugs should be reported in the regular Bug forum. We do however ask you to tag the bugs with [VR] in the title.

We also invite you to check out our Official Discord
Here you will find our friendly moderators (as well as the unfriendly ones) and you might even find a few devs chatting. There is also a VR specific chat room and lots more.

How To Play VR
If you need help getting started with PAYDAY 2 VR please check the How to play PAYDAY 2 VR thread in the VR Forum. Here you can find controller diagrams and explanations of how to perform different actions and use the features in the game.

New VR Skills and Perks
The VR players will have slightly altered version of the perk decks and some skills.

Differences between VR and Desktop players

VR players will also be able to run further and faster than a Desktop player, while consuming more stamina.

BlastZone 2 - EagleEye
A completely free DLC has just been released for all owners of BlastZone 2 that greatly improve terrain detail. This DLC applies to the Home Planet, Alien Planet, and Caves terrain and it really is a sight to behold. They show every little detail of each crevice and ridge in the scene with high resolution lighting to show it off. Please note that the only way to enable these new terrain detail settings is from the “Launch Configuration Tool” option from the game startup window. Also, the first time BlastZone 2 is started up using this DLC, the load time will take much longer than usual, but subsequent game launches will reduce it.

EXTREME QUALITY CAVES IMAGE
EXTREME QUALITY ALIEN PLANET IMAGE

This DLC has been split into two packages, “Very High” and “Extreme” detail. The “Very High” detail package raises the baseline terrain detail by 10x (bringing it from 65k tris to 650k tris per block) and provides the best compromise between greatly improving detail while keeping performance reasonable for most moderately powered machines. The “Extreme” detail terrain pushes triangle counts to the absolute limit of what the content pipeline and game engine can handle, having 32x the detail of baseline terrain (about 2.1 million triangles per block). Extreme detail is not suggested for use by most users, as it drastically increases system requirements, requiring atleast a Radeon RX 480 or Geforce GTX 1060 to run at adequate performance.

The reason why this has been released as separate DLC and not included in the base game is because it greatly increases the game install filesize (from 80mb to 800mb), and greatly increases load times. These should only be used by players with higher end machines. The base game was built as the best compromise between keeping the game scalable to run well on low end machines and integrated graphics, while keeping the graphics substantially better than most games at the designed minimum and recommended specs.

As of a few months ago, the content pipeline and model management system in BlastZone 2 was limited to 65k triangles per object, and the terrain was built to make full use of that limit. Given that, the terrain was still able the achieve a competent level of graphical fidelity while keeping performance very high. As of v1.25.1.0, the model management system and model loader was greatly improved to raise the triangle count limit all the way up to about 2.1 million. The new model management system had many other advantages as well, but this DLC is the first time the new triangle limit has been fully leveraged.

In addition to the DLC, lower quality terrain is now included in the base game as well. These terrain models were taken directly from the Android version of BlastZone 2 and have a triangle count of 5k per block of terrain, having less than 1/10th the geometric complexity of the baseline terrain. This detail level is ideal for really old, low specced machines, netbooks, or integrated graphics. Even so, the amount of detail still contained in these models is much better than you’d think, using the low triangle count as intelligently as possible.

The home planet terrain has also been greatly improved for all detail levels. Lighting and shadowing has been adjusted to better accent finer details of the terrain. This was done without any performance or memory hit as well, so everyone can enjoy the improved terrain detail. Here is a screenshot illustrating it.

IMPROVED HOME PLANET LIGHTING AND TERRAIN IMAGE

There are a few other tweaks and updates included in this update as well. Here are the full release notes:
  • Added a new 'Low Quality' terrain detail option for low end machines
-This uses terrain models from the mobile version of BlastZone 2
-Ideal for low end laptops or integrated graphics
  • Added support for the new 'Very High Quality' and 'Extreme Quality' terrain free DLC packs
-These higher quality settings dramatically increase system requirements, so use them at your own risk!
-'Very High Quality' requires a Radeon RX 460 or Geforce 1030 or above
-'Extreme Quality' requires a Radeon RX 480 or Geforce 1060 or above
-Graphics cards of similar performance from previous generations work as well
-To access these new settings, the new DLC packs need to be downloaded
-They aren't included in the default install to reduce filesize
-These settings do not affect the 'Outer Space' environment, since it doesn't contain any terrain
-Triangle count comparison for each detail level per block of terrain:
    -Low: ~5k tris
    -Normal: ~65k tris
    -VeryHigh Quality: ~650k tris
    -Extreme Quality: ~2.1mil tris
  • Updated the configuration application to adjust Terrain Detail
-This is the only way to change this setting, not in game
  • Improved lighting and shadowing of the Home World terrain
  • Adjusted the screen fade transitions to ensure the new scene is fully loaded before showing it
  • Fixed the item pickup particle animation occasionally using the wrong colors
As usual, to ensure you have the latest update, launch the game and check the lower left corner of the title screen for “v1.26.1.2” or above. Enjoy the new content and there is more to come!

Foxhole - Clapfoot

This is a massive update that overhauls the main game modes for Foxhole and provides a new foundation that the future of the game will be built on. Our work is far from over, but the first pieces of the new and improved Foxhole are in place.

World Conquest

World Conquest mode is one of the new ways to play Foxhole. It enables a large scale war that takes place on an interconnected world. Instead of wars taking place on a single region at a time, it will be happening on 9 simultaneously and involves hundreds of concurrent players! From logistics officers operating in behind friendly lines to soldiers fighting on the front, the feeling of being just one soldier in a massive war is more realized now than ever. Be part of Foxhole history and join the first official World Conquest now.

One World Experience

Instead of joining individual battles through a server browser, players will now instantly enter the game world and join Skirmishes or World Conquest through a Hub World known as the Home Island. Both game modes contribute to the ultimate combined win condition, which rewards the winning faction with a special War Monument that displays top player standings.

Mooring County

This update introduces the 9th region of the World Conquest mainland, Mooring County. Inspired by the Battle of the Bulge and Northern European woodlands, this region features winding trenches, dense woods, and wide clearings.

Faction Specific Trucks

Colonials and Wardens now have their own unique designs for Trucks! We hope to continue to add more faction specific vehicles in the future.

Mech League Hunting - MaurØ
Hello everyone!
There are new updates + bug fixes for the game!

UPDATES

* MISSION CHALLENGES [REMOVED] *
We decided to remove the mission challenges while we balance the gameplay since we feel like it doesn't add much to the game at the moment. The game it's more about killing as fast as possible to get the points and complete the missions! Some of these just didn't make sense or fit. Story and Mini-Hunts screens have now been updated to reflect this change!

BUG FIXES

- Fixed bug that made gun animations not work when zooming.
- Fixed bug that prevented kill counter to go up to 30% bonus
- Fixed bug that froze time counter in game.
- Fixed UI bugs that prevented proper navigation of menus using gamepad / keyboard.

Happy Hunting!
There's still more coming soon! :)
