Hand of Fate 2

Hand of Fate 2, Defiant Development's excellent deck-building dungeon crawler sequel, is getting its first round of free DLC tomorrow.

Defiant's first free offering comes in the form of a new character to accompany you on your adventures. Upon completing Hand of Fate 2's final encounter, players will unlock The Dealer, the series' mysterious (but loquacious) games master, as a companion character.

Companion characters are new to Hand of Fate 2, and exist to offer support during quests and in combat. The Dealer is able to influence your luck during tabletop quests that require gambits (that is, dice rolls, card picks, and other mini-games), but at "great personal cost". In combat, meanwhile, he'll offer assistance with his powerful ranged magic attacks.

Total War: WARHAMMER II

The Rise of the Tomb Kings (not to be confused with Rise of the Tomb Raider) campaign pack for Total War: Warhammer 2 will be released 23rd January 2018.

There's no story this time but rather two extra legendary lords, bringing the pack's total to four. And they sound very snazzy. There's:

You'll be able to play Rise of the Tomb Kings in both the Eye of the Vortex and Mortal Empires campaigns, but the Tomb Kings' goals are to find the nine Books of Nagash. Each one will grant you a campaign bonus apparently.

Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide

UPDATE: Fatshark has announced the Xbox One X upgrade for Vermintide 1 has also gone live, bringing native 4K support, darker shadows, a smoother framerate and enhanced textures.

ORIGINAL STORY: Rejoice! Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is coming to consoles as well as PC, just as the first game did. And by consoles I mean PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - there's no mention of Switch I'm afraid.

"Although speculations have been correct all along, today we are happy to start talking more console specifics as the Xbox One and Playstation versions has been confirmed," said Martin Wahlund, boss of developer Fatshark.

Offline bots have arrived for Friday the 13th: The Game, so now you don't have to venture into the hit-and-miss world of other people online.

The bots are a free addition for all platforms and work on every map of the game, and let you live out your murderous horror fantasy of being Jason Voorhees as he stalks around looking for a hockey match.

The update appears to be out on PS4 but Steam and Xbox One are having some issues, according to the Friday the 13th: The Game Twitter account.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

The Nintendo Switch port of Doom was remarkable (although not perfect) and the good news this morning is the team responsible for it, Panic Button, appears to be handling the Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Switch conversion as well.

"It's the same as the Doom studio," MachineGames' Tommy Tordsson Bjork told GameReactor at the Fun & Serious conference in Spain. "It's the same people," added MachineGames' Andreas jerfors.

jerfors went on: "They're experts at the Switch and now they're experts with the [id Tech 6] engine so we work with them, and the Doom version turned out to be really kickass on the Switch so I think Wolf will be the same."

Dying Light

There's not a lot to this story but it's a nice piece of generosity to highlight: Dying Light's commitment to a year of free content drops continues with a new Gun Silencer pistol attachment inspired by the community and released today.

The silencer allows you to pop zombie heads without alerting nearby zombies, which is a very desirable thing to be able to do in Dying Light. You can find the silencer blueprints at the quartermaster's.

The Gun Silencer is the second of 10 planned free content drops for Dying Light, which will be delivered over the course of a year. The motivation behind them is to thank the game's active and large community for their ongoing support, and to keep giving them new reasons to come back of course.

Layers of Fear (2016)

Developer Bloober Team's dizzying first-person haunted house horror game Layers of Fear is currently free on the Humble Store, and you even get its superb soundtrack thrown in.

Layers of Fear received some fairly mixed reviews on release in 2016, but it's one of my absolute favourite horror games in recent years. On the one hand, it's pure, pulpy haunted house silliness (which I'm admittedly a sucker for), and certainly not afraid to pile on the hoary old genre cliches, or the endless YouTube-baiting jump scares. But it's also handsomely produced, with a surprisingly intelligent, emotionally robust core, which tips the whole thing more heavily into gorgeous, gothic melodrama.

Its real strength though comes in Bloober's knack for a disorientating set-piece, and Layers of Fear features some wonderfully effective horror sequences, all built around the house's penchant for constant reconfiguration and confounding geography. It's the kind of game where walls and corridors shift into ever-more impossible arrangements while your back is turned, and perfectly well-proportioned spaces suddenly become 600 feet tall.

FOR HONORâ„¢

There's a winter event coming to For Honor and, with it, a limited two-versus-two brawl on a frozen lake of thin ice! Better yet, it melts and cracks the longer you fight.

The Frost Wind Festival takes place from 21st December through to 4th January 2018, so there's plenty of time to give it a go.

In addition to the Ice Brawlers mode there will be new winter-themed cosmetic gear, including a special Mask outfit for each faction. This is discounted to 15,000 steel for a limited time. Hero bundles of cosmetic items will be available from 28th December.
