Field of Glory II: Immortal Fire burst into flames on Tuesday and today’s column is crowded with Greek warriors. The pictures above explain, as effectively as any string of letterclots, why these two facts aren’t connected. On the left is RIOT, a handsome crowd control wargame partially undone by its eye-catching aesthetic, and on the right is Trireme Commander, a history-steeped Iron Age naval sim with frustrating martinet tendencies. Winston you look FABULOUS

Overwatch, aka the shooter you sent roses to but they got lost in the post, you swear, is having another wintry event this year, game director Jeff Kaplan said in a developer update. While the snowball fight from last year returns, there s also a different and fun game mode called Yeti Hunt in which a team of freeze-happy Meis tracks down an angry Winston. (more…)

fortnite

If you reckon Fortnite Battle Royale s squads are too small and don t provide enough meat shields to cower behind, then have I got some good news for you. From now until December 17, you ll be able to dive into completely ridiculous 50 vs. 50 battle royales. Fortnite s probably going to get very, very messy for the next week. Check out the trailer below.

Soul food

Sword-slashing fighting game Soul Calibur has been on consoles since the 1990s but next year it s coming to PC with Soul Calibur VI, Bandai Namco announced last night during the Game Awards. Finally, you will be able to slice and/or dice your opponents with blades, rapiers, whips and whatever the hell those things are that Voldo uses. Not much has been revealed but there s a trailer below. (more…)

metroexodus

For a Metro trailer, the latest Metro Exodus video sure spends a lot of time out of the Metro. A lovely old Soviet locomotive gets top billing over the gloomy, dark underground tunnels. It s Artyom s new home and his way to escape dilapidated Moscow. Sadly no gameplay footage made it in, though. Take a gander below.

plunkbat-desert

After months of anticipation, you can finally run, vault and climb around Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds new desert map. Miramar is now live on the test servers, and you’ve got until 10am GMT on Sunday before they’re switched off again. There’s also a new trailer that shows it all off, which should delight anyone who’s a fan of Inception/Mass Effect ‘BWONG’ noises.

Here we are once more, staring down the barrel of another week’s worth of the very best PC gaming deals from around the vast reaches of this thing we call the internet. This time around, we’ve got a dash of GOG, a touch of Oculus Rift, and some graphics cards, among other things. In the run-up to Christmas, the deals certainly don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Anyway, let’s take a look at them.

As usual, we ve got deals that ll work in the UK, deals that ll work in the US and some deals that will work in both the UK and US, as well as presumably many other places. Let s get started.

Far Cry® 5 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

Out of my way! Coming through! In March!

US-based shooter Far Cry 5 and accidental transformers racer The Crew 2 are both delayed, said Ubisoft last night, in a quiet voice. They announced the delays in the middle of their own livestream for Beyond Good and Evil 2 and shortly before the flash flood of news brought on by the Game Awards threatened to drown us all in release dates and trailers. There s no suggestion Ubisoft has chosen this time because it will now be a quiet floater of a post in a sea of more interesting revelations. Oh wait. That’s precisely what I’m suggesting. (more…)

from-game

A bone, a ratchet, a bloody rope, parchment – these are the clues in this short teaser-trailer for the next project from Dark Souls studio From Software. What do they mean? Oh, probably a metaphor for death and the afterlife – it usually is. In terms of what game could it be, well, knee-jerk reactions leaned towards Bloodborne 2 (for my money it’s From’s finest, but, o tragedy, the first game remains a PS4 exclusive), but that might be simply because of the aforementioned bloody rope. BB is generally a more gory sort of horror than DS, y’see.

Some, however, are looking deeper into From’s past, theorising that the ‘Shadows Die Twice’ text after the footage could imply a return to Shadow Tower, From’s 1998 PS One game which laid some of the groundwork for Souls. (more…)
