Mega Man 11

Every iteration of Mega Man passed me by until I got myself a SNES Classic Mini yesterday and properly played Mega Man X for the first time. It s quite good, so I now find myself craving more. Good news, then! All eight games in the Mega Man X series are coming to PC next year. They ll be joined by a brand new game: Mega Man 11.

If dressing Overwatch heroes up as bees, firefighters or David Bowie tributes isn’t enough for you, then I’ve got good news – from the start of next year, you’ll be able to don the colours of your favourite esports team. Blizzard have announced that the custom team skins available for each team competing in the Overwatch League will also be available for their supporters, though they can only be bought using a special currency. I’ve laid out all the details below, along with the lowdown on the Overwatch League itself.

How intrepid of them

A big free update for snowy shooter The Division is out now. The Resistance update is quite a hefty one for the third-person dog-pooping sim. It adds a big new area of New York (the West Side piers), a couple of new game modes, tweaks to current multiplayer modes, and exotic weapons like a large machinegun called Big Alejandro . To an old Divisioneer like me, none of it seems as enticing as the survival mode of last year, but it might appeal to those who enjoy facing wave after wave of bad men with firearms. The new Resistance mode is essentially Ubisoft s take on Horde mode from Gears of War. (more…)

Frostivus is coming, but it s not designed by the people you might expect. Frostivus is the Christmas event that Valve used to run for Dota 2 every year, though their last effort was way back in 2014. This year, Valve are turning to their modding community to revive the event in the form of a contest, with a $30,000 prize for the winner. I spoke to several participants about their games, and how they feel about doing what many would consider as spec work.

dd

The sky is falling above Darkest Dungeon s ill-fated village, Hamlet. As we know from Asterix, this is a very bad thing and you should be rather scared. A comet has come crashing down and landed in the outskirts, bringing with it a strange light and, of course, madness. It can only mean one thing: it s time for some new DLC. Some new DLC with a not very reassuring name, specifically. The Color of Madness is due out next spring.

Building a legal case

Epic Games, the creators of free-to-play zombie craft-em-up Fortnite, have settled a legal case against an alleged cheater. It s one of the two cases we ve previously mentioned, and involves a player who was accused of tinkering with the game to see through solid objects, teleport, impersonate another player and ruining the game playing experience of others . The case has been settled with an injunction that will cost the player $5000 if breached. (more…)

pizza1

Oh, Scott Cawthon, you sneaky, sneaky man. Yesterday, we reported that the Five Nights at Freddy s designer was working on a spin-off — a pizzeria tycoon game. The announcement was accompanied by a single screenshot of a FNaF 8-bit arcade game. It s out now on Steam, and it s free to boot. It s also not what it seems. Read on to have the surprise ruined for you.

28destiny2

Merry Destiny Day everybody! Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris is out today, but do you know when? If not, you’re in the right place: I’ve posted exactly when you can get your mits on it in various timezones below. Because I’m a font of Destiny 2 expansion timing knowledge, I can also tell you that there’ll be around 3 hours of server downtime before the update/DLC lands, and that you can start downloading about an hour after that starts. Again, timezone specifics are all conveniently laid out below.

DID YOU KNOW: one of the first-ever posts on this here website was about Massive Entertainment’s alt-Cold War real-time strategy game World in Conflict, and for years we even had a screenshot of one of its very impressive explosions on our About/mission statement page. It was a game we liked so much that we even ran photographs of TV’s famous Kieron Gillen wearing a delightful promotional WiC hat. As such, it’s been a minor tragedy that WiC was removed from Steam a while back (though it is on GOG).

Its excellent tanks and incompetent captains are not entirely lost to us, however – Ubisoft are giving it away for free until Monday. (more…)

battlefront2

Keeping up with what the heck is going on with Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a tall order. The first-person shooter is now inextricably linked to the loot crate debate and the subsequent temporary removal of microtransactions, though the change did little to improve the game’s reputation. The developers are still trying though: ahead of tomorrow s season of content themed around The Last Jedi, DICE has pushed out an update that tackles the game’s main bugbears, the economy and progression. The good news is that the focus seems to be on giving players more rewards, but the process is ongoing.
