The Witcher creators are too busy making Cyberpunk 2077 and playing 200-card pick-up in Gwent to be working on a fourth game in the series, according to a translated interview with the developer s president, Adam Kici ski. They ve always said that the Witcher himself is retired as a character, following the Witcher 3 s last expansion. But Kici ski has taken a chance to remind us that this doesn t mean they won t return to the world in some form in the future. If they were to abandon that universe, he says, fans and investors would not forgive us . (more…)
Bluehole Studio are now best known for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, but the mega-hit murderfest is actually the black sheep of their family. Bluehole are mostly into MMORPGs, having started with Tera and Devilian, and this will resume with their next game. Today Bluehole announced Ascent: Infinite Realm, a magical steampunk MMORPG with jetpacks, mechs, airships, wizards, dragons, and Avatar-y magical floating rocks. Amongst all this, also expect realm vs. realm aerial warfare, and a peaceful life building your own estate. Have a look in this trailer: (more…)
Fortnite Battle Royale players have come up with what might be my favourite mode of transport I’ve ever seen in a video game. Forget about the wingsuit in Far Cry or the grappling hook in Just Cause, because Fortnite lets you surf on a rocket propelled pumpkin. The recent “Fortnitmare” Halloween update added the Jack-O-Launcher, a rocket launcher with a pumpkin attached that, it turns out, can act as a perfect platform for a human passenger. See it for yourself in the clips below.
While we wait for online cooperative multiplayer to officially arrive in Stardew Valley — early 2018, last we heard — creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has shared a little update. It’s “coming along great”, he says, and “already really fun”. I mean, sure he would say that, but it’s Stardew Valley in multiplayer so I’ll believe that. The wait continues but Barone does share a nice picture of a farm he worked on: (more…)
American Truck Simulator – New Mexico is the latest and first paid expansion for SCS Software’s remarkable fusion of dreamlike roadtrip game and business simulation, which is one of my favourite videogames of all time despite my having almost no interest in motor vehicles. New Mexico adds one of the largest but least-populated states into the mix, with cities including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Roswell. I’ve been playing it ahead of its release tomorrow.>
This New Mexico is not the America of the movies – at least not all those cowboy movies and 60s road movies that are evoked by American Truck Simulator’s initial California/Nevada/Arizona stomping grounds. New Mexico is more the America of modern television. There’s the Breaking Bad connection, of course, given that Albuquerque is one of the major cities in this latest, state-sized expansion, but it’s more than that. This is anyplace America, not a cinematographer’s America. (more…)
Lovers of uncooked mushrooms may remember The Wild Eight, an extra-tough multiplayer survival game set in a frozen wasteland following a plane crash. I thought it wasn t bad, even if your hunger bar drained faster than a broken bathtub. Since its release however, there seems to have been a split among its creators. It s not clear what happened but the result is that the snowy game has been sold off to its publisher Hype Train Digital. In the meantime, the original developers, Fntastic, are off to make a new game, called Dead Dozen.
It s set in a frozen wasteland. (more…)
As much as I enjoy destructible environments in video games, I cannot condone smashing anything in the next level coming to Rainbow Six Siege. It is simply too pretty to ruin. Mok Myeok Tower, which will arrive in the next update, is a gorgeous futuristic skyscraper over Seoul with an indoor garden, giant kinetic sculpture, lovely wood paneling, and a real good Deus Ex: Mankind Divided-ish vibe. Watch this trailer and tell me it’s right to let anyone destroy this place: (more…)
It’s grim to have sunset fall while I’m still working, so I sacked off the afternoon to cheer myself building virtual sandcastles. I build sandcastles up out the sand, I admire my little castle village, then the tide comes in and washes them all away, and I start over. That’s how it goes in Sandcastles, the latest from Windosill and Metamorphabet creator Vectorpark. It’s a small and pleasant thing, and it has a free version to play in your browser. (more…)
When I wrote my Watch Dogs review back in 2014, I thought the third-person grand-theft-hack-’em-up was an off-brand multipack of slightly stale crisps. Yet I’m excited that the game is free this week and that if you download it now via Uplay, it’s yours to keep forever. (more…)
Buying a monitor used to be a fairly simple affair. You d pick one black rectangle from the dozens of other black rectangles, and if you really pushed the boat out you might get one with an adjustable stand, or, heaven forbid, a rotating screen.
These days, there s a lot more going on. You can still opt for the faithful black rectangle, but if you re the type of person who likes rainbow-coloured keyboards, mice and motherboards, you can now get a monitor to match. Take Asus ROG Swift PG248Q. This 24in display has a glowing red ring round the base of the stand, as if the resulting monitor has arrived from another dimension inside its slate-like base. Thankfully, it can be turned off via the surprisingly easy-to-use menu buttons on the rear of the screen, but at least the option s there if you happen to like that sort of thing. (more…)
