Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time.>

I wrote about this stonkingly beautiful and enormous mega-mod for the original Quake last year, recommending that y’all should play it, but it didn’t quite turn out as planned when fans and creators alike (politely) argued that the screenshots I’d used did not suitably sell the game. So, here are some screenshots of Arcane Dimension which hopefully will> convince you to give it a try. You really should, because it’s the next best (or maybe even better?) thing to getting a whole new Quake.

Crusader Kings 2: Jade Dragon

Crusader Kings 2 is a strange thing. At first glance, it’s a wildly complex grand strategy game in the vein of Europa Universalis, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find something not far divorced from The Sims; an ant-farm sandbox driven not by goals or win-states, but the personal dramas of a cast of thousands.

As with The Sims, Crusader Kings 2 just keeps on growing, constantly reinvigorated by expansions adding new layers of complexity to the simulation. The latest of these – Jade Dragon – offers you the chance to puppeteer your way through seven hundred years of Chinese political history, starting this November 16th.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN - Fatigues (Naked Snake) - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

metal gear survive

Been a while since we heard from Metal Gear Survive, Konami’s co-op focused Metal Gear V spinoff. It was originally slated for a 2017 launch, Konami fell silent while estranged series director Hideo Kojima started his own independent studio, which I’m still half-convinced is just an excuse to hang out with Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen

Admit it, you’d do it too.

While perhaps a little late to cash in on the Zombie Survival Sandbox zeitgeist, Metal Gear Survive is alive and kicking, or at least slowly shambling closer. Today, Konami announced a release date for the game (February 20th – 22nd in Europe), along with a handful of perks for those bold enough to preorder. After the jump: details, and 15 minutes of (subtitled) Japanese gameplay footage.

destiny2bans

Destiny 2 finally launched on PC last night — it s quite good — and the ban hammer has already come down on a multitude of Guardians. By their droves, players have been complaining of unexpected bans, and many of them cite third party applications as the reason for why they can no longer play the game. Bungie denies this.

I turn 40 on Friday. Which seems to me as good a reason as any for some solipsistic self-indulgence, here in the privacy of our walled gardens. Sometimes, you know, it’s important to stop and try really hard to stare at your own reflection in the roses. (more…)

Rumu - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Fraser Brown)

rumu

The only trick my vacuum cleaner has in its repertoire is its ability to scare my dog stupid whenever it s turned on, but Rumu, the titular antagonist of Robot House s upcoming adventure, is a little bit smarter than that. It s on a journey towards sentience inside a fully-automated smart home. Take a gander at the announcement trailer below.

Bonbon - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Bonbon

When Bonbon first launched, our Adam found that the quiet little story of domestic horror in ’80s Britain spoke to him, in a creepy nightmares-whispered-in-your-ear kinda way. Before we put him back in The Box, he described it as “a house of horrors that hit far closer to home than most”. That alone should be enough to get your attention.

Assuming it didn’t, maybe this will: Bonbon is making an encore today with it’s Steam debut (and re-launch on itch.io), along with a slew of tweaks and polish to help you sink into an uncomfortable dream of a British childhood that looks just> close enough to mine to be unsettling.

Humble Day of the Devs 2017

Day of the Devs, for those not in the know, is an event in San Francisco that lets fans meet and talk shop with a bunch of game developers in what usually becomes one big celebration of various nerdoms. This year’s event is taking place on Saturday, 11th November and Humble is celebrating the occasion with a big ol’ Day of the Devs 2017 themed bundle which offers up to $131 worth of games for $9.

In this bundle, you’ll find a handful of point and click classics in their remastered forms, along with some absolute gems of newer indie titles. If you happen to spend $9 (around 6.83) or more, you’ll even get a VIP ticket to the Day of the Devs event itself, if you can make it there. As an added bonus, Humble Monthly subscribers will also get $2 thrown into their Humble wallet to spend at a later date.

It s 4AM and I m whispering with strangers in the dark. I found them online through a private channel, arranged a meeting in secret, and set my alarm to wake under cover of night. We ve already got a plan, but we need to talk it through, to get on board with each other. We need to make sure we won t get caught this time.

I promised my wife I d stop doing this, but these are the sacrifices I have to make in order to finish Destiny 2 s Leviathan raid.
