[UPDATE: We have now made this the default branch after some really positive feedback from people on the beta-branch. Most important thing first: If you don't like the new default osu orbs, you can revert to the previous-branch, or wait until early next week when we let you choose different skins for the orbs.]

Instructions to change the branch: Opting In and Out of Steam Client and Product Betas

We're on the third beta of 0.7.3 now, so it's "b3" and as I had only posted the news about this on the forum and won't get a new release before Monday, here's an "official news posting" for the beta-branch.

Most important changes first: We have osu! leaderboards fixed hopefully for all cases now (b3 fixed the case with old beatmaps where one song had multiple beatmaps with the same difficulty, which hopefully was the final issue here). Also, Slider timing should finally be completely fixed.

And ... don't get shocked if you don't like the new orb style we currently use for osu beatmaps. In the next release, you'll be able to choose between two or three or maybe even more "orb skins". The current default will stay the default (initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, which is kind of funny because it's what we used in the very first prototypes of the game, so we've come full circle). BUT: I'm almost certain this won't work too well for most environments except Level-00-Neutral. We went from transparent orbs to opaque orbs for good reasons ... so that's why you'll get choice probably already on Monday ;-)

This also has an important fix for audio-previews, so those should now work in all cases.

  • V0.7.3b3
  • osu!-beatmaps: The workaround for beatmaps without beatmapSetId and beatmapId in their metadata broke when there were two beatmaps with the same difficulty. Added a 2-digit hash now from the version name to fix this. Problem: The beatmap specific leaderboards (that weren't really beatmap specific due to this bug but had two or more beatmaps mixed up) are gone.
  • osu!-beatmaps: More osu! file scanner / file browser issues fixed.
  • V0.7.3b2
  • osu!-beatmaps: The previous Sliders timing fix was actually wrong. Now taking the TimingPoints into account properly, this should make the Slider timings correct in all cases.
  • osu!-beatmaps: The beatmaps were unnecessarily loaded for the audio-preview. This is no longer done now.
  • osu!-beatmaps: Changed the default skin of the orbs for the osu default level to a transparent version.
  • V0.7.3b1
  • osu!-beatmaps: Leaderboards fixed! So sorry for the mess this was. Now you have song leaderboards (when you select a song), which have all highscores of all beatmaps and have "Song: title" in the headline. And when you select a specific beatmap, you get the beatmap highscore (and only scores of the specific beatmap), with "Beatmap: [version/difficulty] of 'title'".
  • Mixed-Reality: Fixed a problem with the Mixed Reality setup: Unity's PostProcessing behaviour creates a fully white alpha mask with many of its PostFX, in particular color grading and bloom (those are two we are actually using). Solution for now is removing postfx for the mixed reality camera.
  • Slider-Visualization: Fixed issue that sliders got all messed up in several environments. Now you can also play osu! songs in level 3, level 5 or level 9. Well, all environments :slightly_smiling_face:
  • Slider-Visualization: Fixed an issue that caused a lot of materials to created for the slider-path. This would also have made it very difficult and performance intense to change color or alpha for the whole path at once.
  • osu!-beatmaps: Sliders were exactly two times as fast as they should have been. Now they have the correct duration / pace.
  • osu!-beatmaps: Fixed a few more bugs both in the actual file scanner as well as the file browser. Among other things, pages with exactly 9 entries caused the file browser to crash.
  • Fixed Level 9 - that whole level was disabled for some add reason, in the previous release, so all you saw was a skybox. Ooops.
  • Reactivated levels 4 and 8 for a testbuild. (Note: In 0.7.3b1, those won't work again, yet)
  • Added a catch all for errors occurring during file scanning so that one faulty beatmap or even folder should no longer crash the whole file scanning process
  • Updated Unity PostProcessing effects to most current version from GitHub to gain the benefits from any bugfixes since the last releases (PostProcessing effects are still beta and under heavy development)
  • osu!-beatmaps: When we cannot parse the JSON-file that has the cached songs-library in it, instead of having the file scanner crash, we now make a copy of the corrupt file and retry scanning. If you notice that Holodance is scanning everything from scratch more often than expected (basically, more than once  ), please look for this file and send it to us so we can do further analysis / debugging.
  • osu!-beatmaps: Significantly toned down the "progress color" in osu-mode. This makes the lines of the platform, the grid, and also the controllers much less "intense", especially against dark backgrounds.
  • Main-Settings: Changing "Show Particles" didn't have any effect. The event was simply ignored. Bad bug. Fixed.
  • Main-Settings: Added objects that show the effect of some of the settings (style settings, particles). We'll also have this for the slider / spinner settings but that is another task for another day.
  • Main-Settings: Fixed issue with spiral slider degrees always turning this to 1440° if you had a value other than 0°. Now this remembers it properly.
  • Main-Settings: Changing the complexity level was also broken. Fixed. And now using a much more stable approach that doesn't easily break anymore.
  • Streamer-Mode: Fixed 1st person camera behaving terribly in pause mode.
