Ubisoft have delayed the first Watch Dogs 2 [official site] DLC release a touch, as they’ve been busy focusing on patches instead. That’s a good reason. I like Ubi’s recent decisions to fix games over rinsing players; remember they delayed The Division’s expansions too. But yes, if you want to hack the planet dressed as that ol’ hippy T-Bone you’ll need to wait a little longer. … [visit site to read more]

As the confetti fell on the end of the Dota 2 [official site] Boston Major tournament its developers, Valve, announced a significant update to their MOBA: update 7.00. I scanned the notes yesterday (once the website was able to cope with the strain of the traffic) and had a couple of games on the test client and GOOD LORD, it’s a doozy! There are Heroes of the Storm-ish talent trees, the jungle has changed so much I actually got lost, Roshan has upped sticks and moved to the northern bit of the river, Monkey King is a total (cool) jerk, the HUD has slimmed right down, illusions offer bounties and all kinds of other nonsense.
We’ll have a proper thorough patch analysis a bit later as the update is going live today but here are a few impressions after playing on the test client: … [visit site to read more]

You don’t need to know anything about Kadath to dig Dream Quest [Steam page]. Alec’s favourite game of 2014 has been available on PC for some time, though it’s more familiar in its tablet guise, but it has finally landed on Steam. Normally, I wouldn’t be all that excited about a two year old game appearing in a new store but the previous PC version wasn’t all that easy to find. I’d forgotten it existed, truth be told.
When Alec first told me about Dream Quest I looked it up on the Apple store and thought I must have found the wrong game. It looks like someone threw it together over their lunch break. Sixty hours of play later, I reckon there’s quite a bit more to it than that. … [visit site to read more]

Watch this everyone, he s going to scroll right past us. Oh sh– He s looking right at us. Quick, arrange yourselves into some kind of sensible formation. We re going to have to let him play some of you. I know, I know, but don t panic, we can do this. We ve done it before. Remember a few months ago when that girl stopped to look at the game with the frog? That was painless! We can do it, just tidy yourselves up, for heaven s sake.
Ahem. Hi there! Boy have we got some great free games for you this week! … [visit site to read more]

What do you get if you blend Dustforce, Super Meat Boy, and Portal 2? A blender full of dust you should avoid inhaling.
What do you get if you blend the fast and deadly platforming of Dustforce and SMB with the magical movement gels of Portal 2? A game a bit like Splasher [official site], maybe. It’s an upcoming platformer about a wee fella with a painting bouncing, sticking to walls, and otherwise zooming through deadly levels. Ooh and it’s the gamebaby of a chap who worked on the fab recent Raymans. Here, have a look at this trailer: … [visit site to read more]

There were a lot of great stories told in PC games in 2016, but only one great storybook. Day eleven of The RPS Advent Calendar, which highlights our favourite games of the year, brings…
It’s sea-faring adventure Burly Men At Sea!

Magical realist adventure game Memoranda [official site] wowed us with its looks when it turned to Kickstarter last year and now that it’s got a release date, yup, I’m still going “Ooh!” Memoranda is the story of a woman who may or may not be losing her memory in a strange world. Its makers cite the strange stories of Japanese author Haruki Murakami as a huge influence. Here, come watch this new trailer: … [visit site to read more]

Sundays are for reading about videogames and NOTHING ELSE.
Time dilation (tidi) is a feature of EVE Online people don’t often mention. Those massive battles you occasionally see screenshots of? They’re running at a tiny low speed so the server can keep everything synced when so many players are in one place. That leads to action reports of the game’s battles being pretty special.

Alphabetical toybox Metamorphabet [official site] was one of our favourite games of 2015 and yup, I’ve play just now to confirm that it’s still pretty great. Made by the chap behind Windosill, it’s similarly about poking, pulling, pushing, squishing, and otherwise fiddling with odd objects, in these case all letters of the alphabet. I know almost all of them now! But if you were overconfident, so certain you already knew all those squiggly boys, and also missed the recent mega-bargain A Good Bundle, hey, really do have a look now that it’s temporarily pay-what-you-want. … [visit site to read more]

The second The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth [official site] expansion, Afterbirth+, now has a release date: January 3rd. It’ll give the roguelikelike dungeon crawler a new chapter, a new character, new items, new enemies, and that other typical expansion stuff, but also bring official mod support. Afterbirth+ was expected to launch by the end of this year but hey, I’m sure the holiday season can provide you with enough tears, torment, inner demons, and family confrontations to tide you over for another three days. … [visit site to read more]
