METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN - Fatigues (Naked Snake) - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

What will Konami do with Metal Gear Solid now series maestro Hideo Kojima has gone off to start a new studio and impregnate Norman Reedus? Oh, you know: zombie survival. Konami today announced the first post-Kojima Metal Gear, Metal Gear Survive. It’s a co-op spin-off set in an alternate universe where some of Big Boss’s pals got sucked into sky and appeared in zombielandia. No, really.

Humble Bundles come every fortnight nowadays but the Humble Indie Bundle is still a rare treat, something a bit fancier than the rest – the flagship bundle. Numero diecisiete is now upon us (I know – diecisiete already! but it has been six years of HIBs), a pay-what-you-want bundle of games including Lethal League, The Beginner’s Guide, Super Time Force Ultra, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, and Nuclear Throne.

RumAndBones Banner

Hello youse.

I have no idea what a MOBA is.* I’m not even joking.** I’ve never played one. I think I dabbled with one of the PC ones for an hour or so once, but that was it. What does MOBA even stand for? I know what MMORPG means, and I know what an FPS is. But a MOBA? About the only thing I know about the MOBA is that people who play them play them for about a million hours, and that baddies move in pre-set channels, in lanes, in one direction. Or something. Maybe. Anyway, it was all the talk about Rum & Bones being like a MOBA that put me off it. That was a very silly of me.

The last week was supposed to be a real funky one for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft [official site], with the launch of One Night in Karazhan. This is the latest add-on to the online card game, bringing four new weekly wings of tailored solo boss fights along with the 45 new cards which is what everyone (apart from you, inevitably) is not so secretly more interested in. So how come it s lost the groove?

The heroes of Overwatch [official site] will be pummeling each other to bits in a German castle, Blizzard revealed today at Gamescom. The new map is called Eichenwalde, which the internet tells me is the word for Oakwood . You can see a short preview of it (sans heroes) in this trailer they released, full of deserted streets and big wooden doors and intriguing throne rooms full of giant dead men with spikey weapons.

The Inner World - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

“It’s obvious that a great deal of love has gone into The Inner World,” our John said in reviewing the adventure game, “because a great deal of it comes back out again as you play.” He really liked it, see. Good news, Johnno!

As there’s no better time or place to announce an adventure game than Gamescom, publishers Headup Games today announced a sequel. It’s named The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk [official site] and it’s due in 2017. For now, a wee teaser trailer:

Grow Home - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Two words for you, reader, you and your video games: Grow Up [official site]. That’s a joke really undone by capitalisation and our standardised linking, isn’t it. Otherwise it’d be hilarious, wouldn’t it. You’d be like “Whaaat! How dare you! And on a video games site!” then I’d reveal that really I was talking about the sequel to Ubisoft’s splendid physics-o-platformer Grow Home and you’d be like “Oh gosh! I thought…!” and we’d laugh and laugh. Well, so much for that. The point is, Grow Up is now out and that’s good news, isn’t it.

The shooty third-person MOBA Paragon [official site] has entered its free open beta, taunting Overwatch and Smite loyalists to come see what all the fuss is about. It s been in early access since March but has cast off the $20 entrance fee for now. This Is the Police - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

I was waging war against the mafia and they did not know it. The idiots kept telling me any time they had a ‘big job’ planned. They would then offer me big money in a brown envelope to ignore it. But as the chief of police, I could not be bought. I would use their little pre-warning to make sure I had enough officers in the station. And when the crime went down a casino robbery, an assault, whatever – I would storm in, yelling the game’s title, This Is The Police!

HITMAN™ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

The fourth episode of Square Enix s righteous murder simulator, Hitman [official site], is out today, dispatching Agent 47 to a luxury hotel in Bangkok where he must get killy with the lead singer of overrated indie band ‘The Class’ and the crooked lawyer representing him. The band are recording their second album, which is likely to be devastatingly bad. They must be stopped>. Come see the briefing trailer below.
