Whether in-engine or not, cinematic game trailers offer plenty of hints as to what you’ll be able to do in an approaching game. For example, we can assume that if speeders, fighter ships and Darth Vader are in the Star Wars: Battlefront trailer [official site], then the game will let us drive, fly or be those things.
And now there’s a little confirmation. The first real game footage of Battlefront will appear via E3 next month, and in a post on the Battlefront site, design director Niklas Fegraeus mentions a new mode called ‘Fighter Squadron’.

Would you mind awfully taking that milk off the boil, ironing those antimacassars, collecting this prescription, and> feeding Blohm and Voss for me (there are some dead mice on the second shelf down in the fridge)? I’m ludicrously busy today, so busy in fact today’s Flare Path has ended up shorter than a Brewster Buffalo with a calcium deficiency. Below the jump is a foxer and nothing else. Return at 2100hrs GMT and the reason for my blue-arsed fly impersonation will become clear.

The first DLC expansion for Dying Light [official site] has now been announced, detailed and dated. It’s called The Bozak Horde and, judging from the teaser trailer below it has a touch of Saw about it, as you re challenged to complete some sicko s elaborate game to stay alive. We re going layers deep into gameception with this one. Succeed and you ll win a super-stealthy composite bow with magic lightning and explosive arrows.

In an ideal world I’d be reviewing The Witcher 3 [official site] for RPS (not that we got code at the same time as consoleland, waah waah what a cold and hostile universe this is), but now I’m a beleaguered dad I barely have time for morning ablutions, let alone 100-200 hours of stabbing and sexing. All being well, I will start a relaxed-of-pace diary series about the earlier chunks of the CPD’s humungo-RPG next week, however. I’m looking forward to it, given the broadly rapturous reception. Just a few days now; the hype-cannon has fired off this ultro-flashy CGI trailer as a near-climactic volley. … [visit site to read more]

Divinity Original Sin [official site] is one of the finest and most distinctive RPGs of recent years. That’s quite an accomplishment given the level of competition that exists at what is hopefully the dawn of a renaissance for the genre. When Larian told us that an Enhanced Edition of the game was coming later this year we spoke to Larian’s founder, Swen Vincke, to learn more about what exactly this massive overhaul entails.
Free to people who own the original release but also releasing as a new game on console, PC and Mac alike, it contains much more than visual polish. Quests have been rewritten, new side stories have been added, splitscreen co-op and controller support are in, and full voice acting has been recorded. We discuss all of that, as well as some of the smaller changes, along with some hints as to what’s next for Larian.>

145,000 lines of code got the Apollo Mission to the Moon, or so The Internet tells me. It takes a fair few more than that to crash a spaceshark into Space Station Homer’s crotch. Don’t believe me? Fine, go count the lines yourself.
Space Engineers [official site] developers Keen Software House are giving people access to their sandbox space sim’s source code, letting folks tinker with the game way more than its mod tools allow. Keen also announced they plan to put up $100,000 ( 63k) to support folks making total conversions. Crumbs!

All of this has happened before. All of it will happen again. I speak of the seemingly constant state of flux that afflicts the solid-state drive or SSD market. Well, that and my posts on SSDs which routinely predict an end game for SSD tech that somehow arrives and then starts all over again. First it was stuttering drives, then it was random versus sequential and compressible versus incompressible. Latterly, it’s PCI Express versus SATA. Whatever, it’s time to catch up on SSDs. Have they finally attained the glories of BSG up to season 1.5 (don’t argue, it’s down the pan from season two, episode 11)? Or are we still looking at the horrors of the final five? Let’s find out if anything has really changed and what the best buy is here and now. … [visit site to read more]

Like a cunning master plan finally coming to fruition, Blizzard has, cracking its bejewelled knuckles, announced that the launch of Heroes of the Storm [official site] is going to be paired with the first ever Heroes of the Storm Championship Tournament.

Here’s a thing not to do: don’t write “SIEGE TIME!” in your calendar on October 13th. Given the degree of governmental snooping going on, who knows what sort of list your excitement for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege [official site] might get you onto? Concealed in that unfunny joke was a fact: Ubisoft have announced plans to launch their hostage-holding FPS on October 13th.

Yes, alright, well done Rockstar. You’ve made a massive open world filled with dozens of scripted stories, activities ranging from deep sea diving to golfing, plus UFOs to summon, cars to tow, and much more. Sure, fine.
But where’s the ability to fly? Where are the telekinetic powers? Where’s the mode that causes all the pedestrians to become psychotically violent and armed to the teeth? Why can’t I drive> the trains?
The modding community answers all these queries with an emphatic “hello there” and a dangerous disregard for sense, reason and logic. I’ve dived into the fast growing archives of GTA5-Mods.com to find the very best on offer.
