Four years after the surprise twist in the Tomb Raider franchise that was Lara Croft And The Guardian Of The Light, Crystal Dynamics have punctuated the releases of their reinvented Lara with its sequel, Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris. The review code we received did not yet have multiplayer switched on, so here’s wot I thought of playing it through on my own.>
I could not tell you exactly how this toy dog plushie works, how exactly people are distracted by it and end up gazing adoringly into its plastic eyes, but I am keen to find out. Konami have announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have a multiplayer side, bringing back Metal Gear Online. That there dog is one of the class-based sneak-o-shoot’s gadgets, which also include the likes of minimechs, cloaking systems, and sentry turrets firing Fulton balloons. I want to play the wacky teamplay mode this first trailer shows.
Another first-person walking simulator in which you play a person in a coma? Oh n– Wait. In Ta>coma – and from The Fullbright Company, those who made Gone Home. Tacoma reveal trailer suggests a similar style, but this time you will be playing as a female astronaut tasked with exploring the eponymous lunar transfer station.
I’ve been following Before since creator Bill Lowe first started sharing screenshots of the caveman god game on Twitter. I responded by favouriting some of the tweets with screenshots in them; Garry Newman of Facepunch Studios responded by hiring Lowe and a team of others to make the game happen. The first trailer showing their work is below.
ric Chahi’s Another World did many things right, but what I believe it really excelled at was conveying the feeling that you were somewhere drastically different. Somewhere otherworldly yet also sensible and at times familiar and this is the exact same sensation Sundae Month’s Petrichor manages to re-create.
When the announcement of Street Fighter V leaked on Friday, Capcom scrambled around trying to scour the Internet of all the grainy copies of a video which didn’t say much beyond: Street Fighter V exists, and is coming to PC and PS4. They’ve gotten around to announcing SF5 now though, a process which involves a new gameplay trailer and word that- ooh! It’ll have cross-platformer multiplayer across PC and PS4. That’s unexpected, that.
The imminent release of other, exciting space games has done nothing to dull my interest in No Man’s Sky. I can think of three good reasons for that: it’s the only space game with a colour palette taken from a ’70s paperback book cover; it looks an awful lot like a procedural walking simulator on a universal scale; I have little clue as to what it’s really about and I am easily manipulated by the withholding of information.
Aren’t we all! There’s two new trailers of the game inside.
RE5734L3R. I’ve been staring at that name for a while now. How the hell is it supposed to be pronounced? Resealer? Nope, sounds like a Ronseal product. Reliever? Nope, that’s what happens after queuing too long for the toilet. Restealer? …actually, that sounds like it might be legit. And here I was thinking we’d left the 1337speak behind in the late ’90s.
However the name is actually pronounced, this new RE5734L3R trailer is a nice little teaser for the game’s visuals. I’m rather partial to the synth soundtrack, which sounds straight out of 80s science fiction thrillers, while the pixel art visuals are quite accomplished.
My first thought on watching Gary Grigsby’s War in the West‘s launch trailer was “Who the devil is Gary Grigsby?” My second was a curious, vague disappointment that all the black and white archive footage wasn’t accompanied by Laurence Olivier’s dulcet tones orating sombrely about World War II. It wasn’t until some nifty hex-based picture editing appeared that I remembered I was watching a game trailer.
Most PC games are about terrain, but Mountain was the only monadnock this year to cause the RPS chatroom to feel empathy, to mellow, and to excitedly compare notes.
Alec: Passive game-viewing is the new game-playing, apparently. I m not quite ready to leave the homeland and sign aboard the HMS Twitch myself, but Mountain made for a happy medium. The game that plays itself. The game that tells me when something of note has occurred. Hell, the game which tells me which emotion to feel. A simple line of text and a tiny musical sting evokes so much more than an impeccably-rendered CGI face trying to show love or regret while orchestral strings swirl, it turns out.
