Sid Meier's Civilization® IV - Aspyr-Blair
As many of you have noted here, Civ IV base game and Colonization are currently not working in 10.10 due to a python library issue.

After a week of review, this bug is legitimate and we are now officially pulling support for Yosemite until we have a fix for the problem.

Please accept our apology for any frustration this bug has caused. We are working on a solution, but because of the hectic holiday release schedule from Aspyr, we cant give an approximate date as to when that solution will be integrated into the game.

There is a workaround (users have posted it in several spots). It works 100%, but we should advise strong caution when messing with your library files. Make sure you backup your rig with time machine before diving in.

I should also note that some users are having success by making sure that Warlords and/or Beyond the Sword are installed on top of the base Civ IV game.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions, and again apologies for the interruption in play on a GREAT game.

UPDATE: A fix is now live! Thank you all for your patience and support.

So what's next for the game? The first thing on the timeline is an Atlantic campaign we are in the process of developing, but we need some extra help to get it out quickly:

Hello dear followers!
Sorry for no news from us for such a long time. The release date is closer and closer, we're trying to fix bugs as quickly as possible but seems like we need more time.

The whole past week we have been busy on bug fixes and content improvement. Besides, we trying to understand how to work with Steam and make a proper build. Seems like we almost done with it.

But the game is not ready yet to launch...

Interesting thing. Creating of various features is not enough to make a "game". We just analyze many reviews from various early access games and noticed that people don't like when the game have no any goal. The game may have nice graphic, some basic features, but don't have actually "gameplay".

And it makes sense. Let's take for example the FTL, but imagine that all weapons, upgrades and crew is available on the start. Such a game will become boring after 20 minutes of playing. Or let's take any other game and imagine that you have everything on the start. It will be not very interesting. So this is a current state of Celestial Command, and we're not very happy with this fact.

We noticed that some early access games have even less features and more bugs than Celestial Command have now, and people are still satisfied. But we want to use one additional week to make the game slightly better.

So right now we're working on a quests. It will be pretty simple system for now, but we think that even few randomly generated goals will make game much better.
Probably we should implement some kind of money, reputation and upgrades. Seems like learning curve and possibility to gradually open new technology is very important factors for attractive gameplay.

By the way, this is not very pleasant paradox. Some games have a lot of possibilities but have no gameplay goals, while another games, almost have no any possibilities, but can attract players due long and smooth growing curve or just due online score board.

You can just browse games in the Steam and make note that lot's of simple arcade games have almost perfect reviews, while many interesting sandbox games have a lots of frustrated players. Of course It makes sense, more complicated plans is harder to realize, but anyway, it's quite a sad.

Or maybe we just too worried before release. :)

So! We hope that new release date is November 20. If no, it will be in this month anyway.

By the way! Early access will be available for PC, Linux and SteamOS (when it will be available). But we have some problem with Mac, so release on the Mac will be available later.

Hi!
Now we're working on a lots of bug fixes, nothing interesting to show you.

So for now, let us show you some "work in progress" stuff.

This is not in-game 3d models, but using those models we "bake" 2d textures which looks like a 3d. Those original models looks pretty cute. Just thought that you will be interested to look at that. )

Hey! While we were preparing the previous post we received a message from Steam! All papers are done! No need to wait 30 days!

Now we got access to Steamworks and we started preparing game to the publication. Steam is great service! Their tools are so convenient.

We're very close!

But... The game is not ready yet. No, seriously, we still have some major bugs, for example you can transfer resources between any containers, even if containers belongs to two different ships. ) This is not very well, right?

And crafting system still not works very well.

Of course we analyze others Greenlight and Early Access games, some of them at the beginning have even less features than Celestial Command have at given time. But we don't want to disappoint you. We are not moneymakers and our perfectionism didn't allow us to publish the game right now.

We need one additional week or two. So the new release date will be in the middle of November.
And we will keep you informed! )
