Oh yeah, Outlast! The spooooooky game set in an asylum, where the enemies are Hooman Beeings. I’d almost forgotten it, since we last mentioned it in November, but now the veteran-developed horror has a release date and a price. You want to know what they are? Well, you’ll have to walk down this terrifying corridor.
I wonder how many of you have played our Live Free Play Hard correspondent Porpentine‘s games. I’ve just finished playing her latest: Ultrabusiness Tycoon III, and as usual, I grinned at the jokes, smiled at the references, and was very moved by the end. Come with me now, on a journey through time and space… (more…)

There’s been another round of Greenlight clearances. While Valve are hopefully tearing the ghastly model into eighty-thousand parts, and then scattering them around the farthest reaches of the universe such that they can never be reformed again, in the meantime a new collection of games have escaped the spike-laden pits and will be on Steam proper. Fourteen of them, in fact, including badger sim, Shelter, Operation Black Mesa, and being-a-toddler horror Among The Sleep.
So here I am playing a turn-based RPG. And it’s because of Kickstarter. That feels pretty good, I have to say. What’s more: I’m really enjoying myself. It’s Shadowrun Returns. Let me tell you about Shadowrun Returns.> (more…)

The latest Indie Royale Bundle is an interesting one. It’s curated by Indie Gamer Chick, and contains eight games that originated from the Xbox’s Xbox Live Indie Games. As anyone who’s ever wandered into that store will have noticed, it’s not easy to find the gems amongst the MS-Paint-scrawled madness. Which is why IGC has been reviewing them on her site for a while now, highlighting the highlights. This bundle is eight of the best that have now been ported to PC, so there’s a good chance they’re games you’ll have missed. They’re certainly games I’ve missed.

After much gnashing of teeth and tearing of our sackcloth, the Kickstarter we all wanted but no one was funding has made it. Satellite Reign has reached its £350,000 funding. In fact, with three days still to go, it’s over the target by another £20k already. So there is to be a new cyberpunk game from the creator of Syndicate Wars. How was that ever a close thing? They celebrate with fireworks.

Gosh, Ubisoft likes releasing trailers. Here’s the seventy-ninety-billionth for The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot – the irony-rich game that will walk a tightrope over the precipice of free-to-play. As ever for this game, the trailer is extremely well made, and a little over-confident.
Earlier this week I spoke to the formidably surnamed Jay Koottarappallil from WhiteMoon Dreams, the company responsible for turning Privateer Press’ tabletop steampunk wargame, Warmachine, into a turn-based title for Windows and OSX. At the time of writing the target for their Kickstarter target had already been smashed, and with over two weeks left on the clock it was approaching a million dollars…> (more…)
It is very important to me that you realise how much affection I have for the brutal lo-fi roguelike shooter, Teleglitch. It’s a horrible, atmospheric game that does everything right. It’s gruesomely claustrophobic, and ridiculously difficult. It allows you to explore for scraps of the world, letting you bolt things together into makeshift weapons that probably won’t – if we’re being honest – actually keep you alive. The game has materialised on the dark edges of digital distribution today, and at the time of writing it has just appeared on Steam. You will be able to get Steam keys from all these places, too, of course. The new edition – published by Paradox and containing extra expandy bits – will be made available to everyone who has purchased the game, so existing owners can upgrade, somehow. (more…)
I put on my pants one leg at a time just like everyone else in the morning. Except then I just have really great ideas for games. [pats self on back]
This game is Viscera Cleanup Detail, it’s a first person spaceship janitor simulator and it’s my absolute favourite game. People (like Sponge) will tell you that the idea was used ‘before’ or something in a game called Space Station 13 but since I haven’t played that and don’t know anything about it let’s just pretend that the idea came entirely from me.
