You know how you are always wishing that there were more space-based RTS games? Well, there’s at least one happening thanks to the Kickstarters, and its backers will no doubt it abundantly pleased that the game now has a playable prototype. It’s looking particularly fancy, given that it’s basically the work of one man, and that man – who I previously spoke to here – has put out a tutorial video for his prototype-users. This video conveniently acts as twenty minutes of gameplay footage for everyone else, and you can see it below. (more…)

Our chums over at Indiegames spotted an interesting-looking freeware game out there in the open wild country of the internet. It’s called Fragment and has seen the light of day thanks to a busy team of Vancouver Film School students. It’s a stealth sort of thing where you can assimilate your enemies, deploy clones to distract them, and so forth. There’s a video of it running below, or you can just grab it here. (more…)

Hello youse.

We haven’t talked about Blood Bowl properly yet, have we? Let’s correct that shit right now. What kind of board game column is this if we haven’t even talked about Blood Bowl?

You want to talk about all things Blood Bowl? Cool. Me too. (more…)

The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing may or maybe not actually be incredible, and they are ARPG quests rather than conventional adventures, but there’s one thing that we can say for sure: he’s going to have a handsome lady-ghost companion named Katarina. What does she want? She wants to make monsters pop into the constituent loots, as you can see in a new video, below. (more…)

Knights of Pen and Paper +1 is the Paradox-published PC version of a handheld meta-RPG. At a recent preview event, I created a party led by a hipster paladin and headed into the lands of clichés and catacombs. This is what I discovered.>

Yesterday, as I was picking through piles of retro Kickstarter projects, I commented that some series, such as Mega Man and Zelda, hadn’t been part of my childhood and therefore didn’t tug at the sepia strings of nostalgia. I do have a soft spot as wide as Totoro’s belly for River City Ransom though. There simply aren’t enough open world beat ‘em ups with basic RPG features. There have been rumours of a sequel for some time but the latest confirmation, from Combit Studios, pitches the licensed successor as a PC game, launching in August 2014, with a crowdfunding campaign to begin this summer.

I have to admit that it had passed me by entirely that there was a DC Universe MOBA going on. But there is! It’s being made by Turbine and is called Infinite Crisis, and there’s a whole beta application thing going on over here. Seems like things are pretty quiet on this front, though, since the only reason I realised it existed at all was the appearance of two new videos on my video-detector, one showing Gaslight Batman, and one showing the lovely Doomsday. Sure looks MOBA-y. (more…)

Remember a while back I posted Six Things I’d like to see in Planetside 2? Well, one of them just got ticked off the list. The two-man Harasser buggy is happening, soon. Except it’s three-man, now. It’s Happiness Day at Rossignol Towers. See it in action below. (more…)

Brendan again. I’m still stranded in Iceland at the EVE Fanfest, where I’ve just been told (haha not really I’ve known all day EMBARGO) that EVE Online is getting the television series treatment. This is partly to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the spaceiest MMO in space but it is also something that has been pondered for a long time, according to developers CCP. But here’s the interesting thing: The plot of the series, we are told, will be based on EVE players’ own stories – all those tales of treachery, money and backstabbing that have accrued in the EVE universe so far. Stories that even EVE-skeptics find intriguing. (more…)
