GameStop Debunks Wild Donkey Kong 3D RumorsGameStop has shut down rumors that a new Donkey Kong game is headed to Nintendo's 3DS, telling Kotaku that display cases for the alleged "Donkey Kong 3D" were not official.

"The displays were not supplied by Nintendo and have been taken down," a GameStop representative told me this morning. "It's definitely not in the system in the U.S. I'm sure it's not elsewhere, either, but I can't confirm that."

Publisher Nintendo would not confirm or deny the existence of Donkey Kong 3D, telling me yesterday that it does not comment on rumors or speculation.

On Sunday, a user on the message board DKVine.com posted photos of the case, displayed at an Australian EB Games (now owned by GameStop). The case alleged that Donkey Kong 3D would arrive in 2012 for Nintendo's glasses-free 3DS handheld.

EB Games had lined it up next to a stack of cases for "Super Smash Bros. 3DS," also a red flag. Though Nintendo has announced an upcoming version of the Smash Bros. fighting series for its 3DS, creator Masahiro Sakurai said last year at E3 that the game had not yet entered full production.

Nintendo released Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2010 for Wii.

The crowd-funding for the upcoming adventure game project from Tim Schafer's Double Fine Studios already broke all kinds of Kickstarter records weeks ago, when it reached its funding goal of $400,000 in eight hours. It's passed $3,000,000—which was the budget for Schafer's classic Grim Fandango—making it one of the highest funded projects ever on the fund-raising website. Double Fine's announced a livestream of the project's last few hours on Kickstarter, where we'll hopefully be able to see the studio's developers hard at work under a shower of money.

Guild Wars

The $150 Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition Comes with All This Plus a Three-Day Head StartFans clamoring for a chance to put down money on ArenaNet's massively multiplayer sequel get their chance on April 10, when NCsoft begins taking preorders for Guild Wars 2 standard, digital deluxe, and collector's editions. What do they get for putting their money down?

How about access to all beta events leading up to the game's release later this year, along with three days' worth of play time before the regular rabble gets in and takes all the good names? That's what's in store for players that pledge to purchase through NCsoft next month, 72 hours of pure bliss. Mind you it's only 24 hours if you preorder through standard retailers, so you might want to stick to NCsoft this time around.

And while we're talking bliss, how about that 10-inch statue of Rytlock Brimstone, complete with flaming sword, the centerpiece of the $150 collector's edition. There's also a 118-page hardbound making-of book, a collector's tin, and a soundtrack CD, but the most exciting aspect of the collector's edition has to be the inclusion of five Guild Wars 2 art prints. Why? Because they've also included a frame. No one ever includes a frame. Frames are important.

The $150 Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition Comes with All This Plus a Three-Day Head StartThere's also the $69.99 Digital Deluxe edition, which comes packed with virtual goodies, or the $49.99 boring edition that lets you play the game, I guess. If you're into that sort of thing. Whatever.

For more details on the Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase program, hit up the official website. I'm going to go clear off some shelf space for my frame.

Modern What? No, Look at this Battlefield 3 Expansion Trailer. Over Here.By sheer coincidence, total accident and obvious happenstance, today, on the day that three new maps are made available for Modern Warfare 3's Xbox 360 Elite subscribers, we've been given a trailer to show you for some new Battlefield 3 DLC.

It's just amazing how this happens.

It's like, no sooner do we tell you that the first $15 Modern Warfare 3 downloadable content collection is coming out (for next week), then—bam!—here comes the trailer for the next $15 Battlefield 3 expansion.

The weird thing is that I was shown all of this stuff last week, and the MW3 people had already picked today as the day for their new maps. The BF3 people picked the same day to let the world see their new DLC trailer.

This trailer is for Close Quarters, BF3's June 2012 DLC pack. Four maps (hey, that's two fewer than the MW3 pack!), 10 new weapons and an emphasis on infantry combat. The creators of the expansions say they want to deliver more than a map pack. They want to offer something that suits a theme. The already-released Back to Karkand, for example, was a throwback to classic maps in the Battlefield series. Later DLC expansion will focus on giant-map vehicle combat and something that suits the title "End Game."

The trailer's good, and all, but the coolest thing publisher EA and development studio DICE are showing might be this single before-and-after screenshot.

PlayStation 3 Connects Murder Suspect to a Burned BodyOn Feb. 25, a fire broke out in a Las Vegas condo. In it, the body of James Lacella, 48, was discovered. According to investigators, Lacella had been dead for days prior with a bullet in his head. The fire was apparently a cover-up.

ABC Las Vegas affiliate KTNV reported that police were able to trace Lacella's missing PlayStation 3 to a pawnshop. The seller was 42 year-old Patrick Wilcock (pictured), who was supposedly Lacella's best friend.

Police arrested Wilcock at his family's home. However, he did not confess and when authorities asked him about the .25 caliber handgun in his possession. Wilcock said that his grandmother gave it to him so he could put an injured dog out of its misery. Lacella was murdered by a .25 caliber.

If You're Gonna Make Cookies, Make 'Em CuteTomorrow is White Day in Japan. I'm supposed to give sweets to women who gave me chocolate on Valentine's Day.

Feeling proactive, I made cookies this weekend for my wife, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law—only to discover that my sister-in-law had made cookies for me and my family!

These are some of them. You can see Miffy and Dragon Quest's Slime. There are a bunch of other characters, too. I think she did an amazing job.

My cookies, sadly, were not as cute. They weren't even cute. I guess they tasted okay, because they were eaten without complaints.

Games have long been included as extras on Blu-rays/DVDs—though the quality of said games tends to rank somewhere between the worst Facebook game and shovelware flash titles. But when Macross Frontier The Movie: The False Songstress was released on Blu-ray in Japan back in 2010, Artdink and Bandai-Namco went a few steps further to create Macross Trial Frontier.

By using the engine and sound effects of the popular PSP titles Macross Ace Frontier and Macross Ultimate Frontier—along with the music from the movie—Bandai-Namco created an excellent little HD Macross experience.

That's not to say that Macross Trial Frontier is perfect. For one thing there are only six levels, and among those, the ground- and canyon-based levels of its PSP forbearers are conspicuously absent. Moreover, despite having trophies, there is no save feature. So every time you play, you must start from scratch.

In the end though, Macross Trial Frontier delivers an hour or two of gameplay along with an enjoyable movie which sets it head and shoulders above other Blu-ray/DVD-extra games. And while it didn't herald the PSP series' jump to the PS3 as many fans hoped, it was popular enough to create a sequel game packaged with the second Macross Frontier movie when it came out on Blu-ray last year.

Sadly, due to the on-going legal issues surrounding Macross/Robotech, it's doubtful this movie/game hybrid will be released in the West anytime soon—if ever. So please, check out the video above to get a taste of Macross Trial Frontier in action.

Boy Band Lasers Inspires StarCraft and Gundam JokesKorean boy band Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK or "Tohoshinki" in Japan) unloaded a laser light SPECTACULAR during a broadcast on local television.

While the show took place in 2008 (so old!), it's recently become a meme in Korea, where it continues to amuse the internet—especially of late.

The show inspired Photoshops and comparisons to StarCraft, Gundam, and Star Wars. One Korean forum member even quipped, "The audience gets free LASIK."

Watch the clip in the gallery above—with goggles, preferably.
