As we all know, Telltale are busy bees. They’re currently juggling nine or ten announced projects, despite not being that enormous a team, to varying degrees of success. And yet there’s still no announcement of Strong Bad season 2 to let me smile once more. Their most recent, Jurassic Park, was something of a T-Rex-sized disappointment, with its Metacritic score of 56 being somewhat buoyed by a rather peculiar 90 at the top. (But then, a 70 has the quote, “These poorly implemented QTE sections cripple the intent of presenting an interactive storytelling experience”, and calls the gameplay (whatever that is) “empty and stale”, so, well, scores eh?) Point being, they’re doing a lot. But what about what they don’t mention on their website? Well, that would be the TV tie-in stuff. The latest being Law & Order: Legacies.
Right, this will get tongues a-wagging. C&C Tiberium Alliances is the next reboot of the Nod vs GDI universe, and as we discovered earlier it’s a browser-based “epic strategy MMO” using the dark magicks of HTML5. Here’s what it’s going to look like. In short, like C&C classic in some ways and yet… not. Really> not. (more…)
Blitz Games have decided to do something quite ambitious in their foray into the wider sphere of indie game publishing/distribution/production, and that thing is called IndieCity. It aims to be a “one stop shop” for indie gaming, and boasts features such as a downloader client that will both recommend things you might like, and automatically download free games and demos that you might like. It opened for general usage today. More on this below. (more…)
What that headline means, of course, is that the anticipated Mesmer is the latest (and I believe final) class reveal for Guild Wars 2. The character’s skills focus on the making and breaking of illusions, making them a tricksy and cerebral class with some of the more esoteric magical effects at their disposal. ArenaNet have released five (count ‘em!) videos of the Mesmer in action, and you can watch them all below. Try watching all give simultaneously and see if your brain is different afterwards. (And gosh, isn’t GW2 just the prettiest thing?!) (more…)
Our man Dan Griliopoulos was at the Alan Wake PC announcement earlier today, and immediately managed to pin down Aki Järvilehto, Executive Vice President at Remedy for a few questions. And some very, very short answers. Tackled: why now, what’ll be different on PC, whether there’ll be any new content, whether the new Wake game American Nightmare might come to PC, and whether or not Aki likes being asked questions like that. We don’t entirely believe his reply to that one.> (more…)
This Christmas you can get your hands on something really special. It’s the RPS Bundle! Get all four editors of Rock, Paper, Shotgun for the price you want. They’ll come and live in your house, shed, kennel, etc, and write poorly proofed posts about forthcoming and recently released indie bundle deals at your demand! Pay what you want for all four writers, bundled together for the very first time.
“What did you do during the great bundle wars of Winter 2011, daddy?”“I posted about them, sweetheart. I posted about them all. I… I’ve seen so much. I’ll always carry that with me.”
We already know about pay-what-you-want charity bundle LittleBigBunch, but until 2pm today we weren’t able to so much as look at its website. Now we can, for it lives and is live. It’s a grand old package of PC games – Frozen Synapse, Explodemon, Serious Sam Double D, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and New Star Soccer 5. A pleasantly varied package, I’d say. (more…)
We sent Agent Smee to have a good long play of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Below is his detailed report on the colourful open-world fantasy ‘em up where atheism gives you an XP boost.> (more…)
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the… Oh, everyone> is dead. Well, more Christmas presents for me, then! And they won’t be needing these mince pies, either, which is a bit of luck, because I am strangely hungry. (more…)
