R.U.S.E. creators Eugen Systems are nudging closer to releasing their next war-themed RTS, the rather literally named Wargame: European Escalation. It’s due in the first fourth of next year, and it features tanks and bangs and splodes. It’s also rather pleasing on the eye, as is evidenced below with the collecting of five new screenshots. Stare at them at will.
Hugely ambitious crowd-sourced racer Project CARS aims not only to look utterly gorgeous but to allow a full career, beginning with karting and ending up in the motorsport of your choice. If it all comes off it could be the definition of definitive. There’s more on the development process here and the official site contains plenty of details. For now, here are some screenshots that have been cleverly disguised as photographs of vehicles. Racing game images often convince me that petrol-burning simulators will soon reach the point at which they look more like footage of cars driving fast than actual footage of cars driving fast.
My brain: C&C news is big news, we should report it!My soul: But it’s just a rumour of the name of the rumoured new C&C game that a division of Bioware is rumoured to be making. Rumour, rumour, rumour, and even if it’s true it doesn’t reveal anything about the game.My brain: Maybe it does – ‘Command & Conquer Alliances’ could mean a lot of things. Like, NOD and the GDI palling up? Or they’re merging all the different C&C universes? Or a co-op focus? My soul: Or it’s just a random word added after the colon, like Hitman: Subtitle. You take these things too seriously, man. (more…)
Last week we took a look back at Major League Gaming Providence, the final event for North America’s largest e-sports circuit. This time, we’ll look at last week’s big event: Dreamhack Winter 2011. See ESFI World’s on-site coverage of the event here.> (more…)
It is, apparently, the season to be jolly. So which is the season to be deadpan? And the season to be sardonic? It seems like who ever is deciding on which season is which attitude really hasn’t thought through a fair system of use, or considered the roles they play in our society. I honestly think a poll for the use of seasons is the only fair way to decide.
Anyway, which game is day four? Which, indeed? (more…)
Sundays! They can be for all kinds of stuff. Singing, dancing, rejoicing. But it’s possible you’re having a quieter time. You’re sat down somewhere with a glowing screen, and you’re filtering through information. So much of it… Here comes some now.

Someone over at NeoGAF apparently got hold of the South Park edition of Game Informer and has posted up relevant details. These include:
- You play as a silent protagonist. A new kid in town who must work to fit in.- It’s the first South Park game Stone and Parker have actively participated in and written the script for.- Obsidian is using the Dungeon Siege III engine, there will be five classes (wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, and a fifth unannounced class).- Apparently “elements of the combat system are like Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games”. So it’s an RPG map with turn-based encounters.
Sounds like a peculiar blend! But that could be for the best. Plenty more spoilery details through the link.
There’s some great offers on this week, although many of them have got 24 hours or less left, so you’ll probably want to get a move on. After perusing this weekends finest download deals in the bargain bucket, get yourself over to SavyGamer.co.uk for regular updates on the cheapest games around for all formats. Here’s this week’s selection: (more…)
Poor old Firefly are looking a bit beleaguered after the disappointing release of Stronghold 3, to the point where the top thread on their forums is titled “We are listening and we are working”. Anyway, some of that listening and working seems to have gone into yesterday’s patch, which has added a “free-build panel” to allow players to experiment with their fortifications a little more: “Although Stronghold 3 wasn’t designed with a skirmish mode in mind,” announced Simon Bradbury, lead designer, “we have listened to what the fans have been saying, so beefed up the Free Build mode to give players lots more flexibility and the ability to have increasingly powerful invasions attack their castle.” Quite why it wasn’t designed with what seems like the most obvious possible mode for a castle-building game is beyond me, but at least they’re having a crack at it now, eh readers?
