Back in 2009, Square Enix showed a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer. In it, FF Versus XIII hero Noctis Lucis Caelum sported a silly name and some magnificent hair. His name is still silly and his hair is still amazing, but dude's changed.
Over the weekend, what are supposedly new screens from Final Fantasy Versus XIII appeared online. The screens show how the game is coming along—more importantly, how Square Enix's new development tech is factoring in.
Some FF fans prefer the old Noctis. Some like the new one, especially how Square Enix has refined his character design.
As Japanese commenters are pointing out online, it looks like Noctis has aged. Well, technically he has. That original trailer was shown in 2009. It's 2011.
And the release date for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still TBA.

The Syndicate of 1993 was a strange beast, part strategy, part action. The Syndicate of 2012 is all action, leaving those who preferred the strategy of the original wanting.
And yet there is hope, no matter how small, in the following comments from EA's Jeff Gamon, who told Eurogamer, "The original was such a classic. There is scope to remake it.
"But I don't think it necessarily has to be exactly the same genre. If we did there are probably other platforms which are more suitable for it than the consoles we're making it for, if we wanted to go in that more strategic route, that perspective.
"I would love to see Syndicate as a true franchise again, bringing it back and expanding it out onto whatever platforms it's suitable for."
Like, you know. The PC.
It's something I've wondered ever since the XCOM remake first showed up: if these publishers are spending millions on these big-budget shooters, can they not find room to develop (or at least fund) a small team making a PC game? A new Syndicate strategy game wouldn't need to be a blockbuster. Just more of the original. Only slightly nicer looking.

Adult star Misti Dawn is touted as the 'Nerdiest Girl in Porn' and has been a gamer nearly her entire life. Sporting tattoos of some of her favorite games and indulging in role-playing games regularly, Misti feels that gaming is not just a hobby but a virtual trip through worlds, lives, and time. Everything one could possibly need.
We were lucky to be given the opportunity to speak with Misti Dawn right after Geek Girls: The Gamers was released and we wanted to get a bit more insight into how much of a hardcore...gamer she is! Take a look at the interview below and realize this girl can game.
EncodeD: So how excited were you to get attached to the Geek Girls: The Gamers project?
Misti Dawn: "Oh SOOOO excited. You have no idea. Typically when I work for someone else's company, I get type casted as the punk rock chick or bad girl which is really the complete opposite of me. So I happen to have tattoos but they are of Xbox references and Zelda, how many tough girls have that tattooed? Ha. It was nice to be able to be myself."
Ok, if you only had one video game to take with you on a video game island what would you take?
"Oblivion. I could and have replayed it 100 times."
How many get the A B X Y you have tattoed on your wrists?
"Most people dont notice it. If someone knows what it means when I show them, I know they are too cool for school then."
Who is the sexiest video game character male and female?
"Lara Croft. She kicks ass and needs no romantic love interest to keep her going."
What is your favorite old school video game?
"Sweet Home, NES."
For the haters that don't believe you play games what do you say to them?
"Do I have to prove I like ice cream too? I could care less if people dont think I'm a real gamer. It's a silly thing to argue."
What is your favorite movie based on a video game?
"I would say Silent Hill. It was different than the game but compared to most other game/movie combos, it got the message, image, and feel across the best."

• A.J. Bailey talkes television, books, movies with us "Favorite book, favorite movie, favorite television show."
Since you like role-playing games, [what is your] favorite single player RPG?
"OBLIVION!!! Any Elder Scrolls really."
Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons?
"I have fuzzy D20s on my review mirror."
If you were able to do the voice in a video game which one would it be and why?
"I would be grateful to be any voice in any game really."
Without giving away anything, if you were going to design your own video game, what type of game would it be?
"Of course an RPG, probably fantasy-based world. Sexy mages... Haha."

As usual, there was a lot of great cosplay on show around the world last week, but I'd like to specifically point out the Samara (Mass Effect) in the image above.
Yes, that's cosplay. Not a screenshot. The reason it looks so close to the "real" thing (and why this is so awesome) is that the model is Rana McAnear. Or, the lady who actually played the role of Samara for BioWare in Mass Effect 2.
You can see more of those amazing pics at Dark Stars photography (via Super Punch).
As for the rest of this week's cosplay content, there's more Catherine (yay!), a Left 4 Dead Witch that's super creepy, a new shot of an oldie (but a goodie) from costumed superstar Omi Gibson, some Alice, some Final Fantasy IV and some Zelda.
And much, much more.

This Thursday night, what looks like an entire night's programming on NBC is going to involve TV show characters dressing up for Halloween. And StarCraft is getting some love.
Towards the end of the above clip you'll see The Office's Dwight Schrute wearing, of all things, a Sarah Kerrigan outfit (the star-turned-villain-turned-spoiler of the StarCraft saga). With pink bra, alien dreads, the works.
You guys knew he wasn't Whoopi Goldberg, right?

Not if you are Freddie Wong, it ain't. The Internet nerd hero is back with another video. This time, it's Battlefield 4. Due out in 2017. Or not.
The trailer, which of course isn't the actual BF4 trailer, was shot on the set of reality series The Controller. You can watch that, here. If you like.
Iain Andrews' site Steam Postcards has long been my wallpaper supplier of choice. Why? Because he plays games and takes screenshots that aren't the kind of thing you'd find in a magazine or popular internet video game website.
He instead takes, well, postcards. Scenic shots of the background, or the walls, or the sky, or whatever, finding stuff that just looks good, instead of stuff that makes the game look good.
His current subject of choice is id's RAGE, but scroll down the Tumblr page and you'll see games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mirror's Edge, Mafia II, Team Fortress 2, Red Orchestra and even Kane & Lynch.
The images maybe aren't nice enough to print out and frame, but like I said, they're perfect for wallpapers!

When Sony revealed the PS Vita's pricing earlier this year, the WiFi only model was announced for US$249.99 and the 3G/WiFi model was announced at $299.99. That's true. That's how much the hardware costs. But if you want to play some great games, then ready your wallet and pony up cash.
As previously posted, some Vita games will require memory cards for game saves. Those titles include Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which, if you are sane and buying a Vita, you'll be picking up. Obviously, if you are bonkers, you won't be.
Also, as previously posted, several types of memory cards will be available: 4GB (¥2,200 or US$29), 8GB (¥3,200 or $42), 16GB (¥5,500 or $72), and 32GB (¥9,500 or $124).
This means if you plan on saving, say, your Uncharted: Golden Abyss games, then you'll need to buy one of these Memory Cards. This Dec. if you buy a 4GB memory card and a Vita in Japan, you'll be spending the rough equivalent of $279. If you go all out and buy a Vita and 32GB memory card, you'll be spending the rough equivalent of $374.
The figures are slightly inflated due to the exchange rate. Moreover, Sony Computer Entertainment of America hasn't provided details about Vita memory card pricing for North America.
Let's not even add in the 3G plans, m'kay? Japan's 3G plans are announced, but the Vita's 3G plans for the U.S. aren't. If you are interested, here are what the Japanese plans look like.
The Vita doesn't (yet) feature the same mammoth internal storage that the PS3 does—or even that most MP3 players do. Sony might have taken out the internal memory to lower the price and compete with the 3DS. Eventually, I wouldn't be surprised if sizable internal memory came to the Vita. But for now, don't expect to smack down $250 for a Vita and then be able to save whatever games come your way.
This Peanuts x Team Fortress 2 image was available as a shirt on TeeFury over the weekend. But by the time I sat down to write this, it was no longer available.
Ah well. While the shirt is gone, the image (by queenmob) is not, and thanks to the wonders of the internet you can enjoy it now and forever.
