Heisman PoiseTaking inspiration from a Stick Jockey column a few weeks ago, encouraging sports gamers to take overcome their on-field setbacks without quitting or reloading from a previous save, as the game will ultimately deliver a reward. One reader's pursuit of comprehensive greatness fell short, but embodied the lesson.

Following a superb freshman campaign in NCAA Football 12's "Road to Glory" mode, in which he tallied 1,747 yards rushing despite not starting until week 7, Drgnmstr366 became determined to capture the NCAA's all-time rushing record, and the Heisman Trophy. Statistically, he appeared to have little problem, rushing for 250 yards against Notre Dame, then two straight 300-yard games, then a record-busting 423 yards against a Division I-AA opponent.

And yet none of these redounded to a quality team victory, so crucial in the voting for the Heisman. Indeed, at the end of his sophomore year, despite 2,983 yards rushing and 39 touchdowns, the Heisman went to a running back from Iowa, with 1,374 yards and 19 touchdowns. Worse, Drgnmster366 only got 16 first place votes.

Blaming traditional voting biases against West Coast players and underclassmen, he returned for his junior year convinced that, with Stanford as a preseason No. 1, he would be a lock for the Heisman. Indeed, he starred in an undefeated season whose closest victory was by 10. And yet still no Heisman.

"I honestly don't remember who won because when I saw the screen pop up and it didn't say my name, I raged through the menu and shut the game off and didn't play the BCS Championship game until the next day," he writes. "I won."

Heisman PoisePlaying out the string in his senior year, Stanford loses a close game to Oregon State primarily because Drgnmster366 is phoning it in. The team reaches No. 2 in the BCS by the end of the year. Convinced he'll be screwed by the game again, Drgnmster366 advances the week and, through the notoriously long loading time, goes to the kitchen to reheat some dinner. "I hear the ‘bleep bloop' of an achievement unlocking and turn around and ... Oh my God, I just won the Heisman Trophy!"

Here's the proof:

Online Gaming Friends of Oslo Suspect Say He Couldn't "Harm a Fly" The 32-year-old man suspected of detonating a bomb in Norway's capital and going on a shooting spree in police garb, killing at least 87, was many things: He was a self-identified conservative Christian, farmer, body builder, hunter, freemason and gamer.

Listed among a slew of personal interests, favorite books, sports teams and philosophies on Anders Behring Breivik's (now removed) Facebook page was an interest in eSports, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and World of Warcraft.

On the European World of Warcraft forums, players came together to discuss the shooting and try to make sense of Breivik's alleged involvement. Among the group is at least two who say they believe they knew the man and said he was down-to-earth and friendly.

Online Gaming Friends of Oslo Suspect Say He Couldn't "Harm a Fly"In World of Warcraft, it appears that Breivik played as two characters: A high-level human mage and a low-level "Forsaken" mage, both under the alias "Conservatism".

"This is just not happening," a player who goes by the name Piltavla wrote. "This guy Anders been a great great friend of me, for three to four years now..."

He went on to say he recognized the suspect's picture on a Swedish news site.

"People can hide their dark sides..." wrote Piltavla. "You had this image of him never being able to harm a fly... he was a very calm and down to earth person," he wrote. "I spent many nights speaking with him... It's unbelievable that he's done this. I feel sick that I ever knew him (to be honest)!"

"You had this image of him never being able to harm a fly... he was a very calm and down to earth person."

Another player also described the suspect as an "overall nice guy."

"The person (the suspect), playing on Silvermoon, was a nice guy," Braxynglet wrote. "Nothing he's done in this game or with people from this game can explain what was done yesterday."

Players in the guild that Breivik is thought to have played in say that he hadn't been online, playing the game or posting on the forums, for nearly half a year. They added that some people had started harassing other guildmembers.

A majority of players talking on the forums had no connection with the suspect, but instead used the online gathering place as a way to talk through the tragedy and deal with the loss of life.

"I am deeply sorry for anyone hurt or killed in any attacks and any person who would openly end another person's life for enjoyment/religious means is no longer human," one player wrote. "I have two friends in Norway one that lives in Olso I hope they are both OK and they are not hurt my deepest thoughts for the people of Norway."

Oslo Terrorist Used Modern Warfare 2 as "Training-Simulation", World of Warcraft as Cover

The accused shooter in yesterday's massacre in Norway has been linked to 1,500 page manifesto that recommends using Call of Duty to train combat skills for an upcoming war with Islam.

Asura's Wrath, a new game (joining Dragon's Dogma) due for a 2012 release, got a showing at the World of Capcom panel yesterday at Comic-Con. Here is a two minute video full of gameplay, showing off the game's beat-em-up adventure cred.

In story and in action, it does seem a little God of War-y but Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, the game's producer, said it combines Asian mythology with science-fiction themes. In the game, Asura, your six-armed main character, is a demigod betrayed by other gods, sending him into a 12,000 year hibernation (of sorts). He awakes, bent on revenge against them.

In a video shown to the panel, Asura confronts his primary antagonist, who tears his limbs off (revealing a mechanical looking endoskeleton at the joints). "Who do you think you are?" Asura demands. "God," is the reply.

A slide then showed an enormous diety of some type, looming over Earth, as an example of the kinds of foes Asura will confront and overcome. I'm guessing it'll take one hell of a Quicktime event to bring him down.

The Cosplay of Comic-Con - Day Two: Tinker, Yoshi, Birdo, SpyWhat could bring together Yoshi and Birdo, Tinkerbell and Team Fortress 2's Spy? Only Comic-Con, where hundreds, maybe thousands of costumed comic book, anime and video game characters roamed the halls of the Con. Many dressed up, only a few were photobombed by a TF2 character.

Day two of Comic-Con cosplay saw some impressive get ups, including Darth Mario, Dark Link and one spot-on Jill Valentine from Resident Evil. Please, enjoy the hard work of these San Diego Comic-Con superfans in the cosplay gallery above.

We'll have more tomorrow. (If you've spotted some great cosplay at the 'Con, let us know and/or drop your own pics in the comments.)

Here is exactly what was shown of Halo: Anniversary's singleplayer campaign, today at Comic-Con 2011. The demonstration was also given to press at E3 back in June; this is its first public display. It covers the classic level "Silent Cartographer," and showcases the ability to switch between updated high-definition graphics and the low-def visuals of the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

Konami's Getting Risk-y With the Metal Gear Solid Board Game"Snake? SNAAAKE?! It's your roll." You too can make this ill-conceived attempt at a joke with the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid-themed edition of classic strategy board game Risk, a game not surprisingly titled Risk: Metal Gear Solid.

Board game maker USAopoly—makers of Risk: Halo Wars!—will bring the military conflicts of Metal Gear to tabletops, seemingly borrowing the aesthetic and Private Military Contractor themes of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima tweeted about the existence of the new board game at Comic-Con today. Konami reps tell Kotaku that Risk: Metal Gear Solid is not officially announced just yet, nor was the game playable at Comic-Con. All USAopoly and Konami brought to the convention was an empty box and the promise of more to come.

Konami reps told Kotaku that we'll hear official details on Risk: Metal Gear Solid in the next two weeks.

Uncharted Writer Originally Wanted Chloe Frazer's Voice for Elena FisherElena Fisher began as a Spanish character, the writer of the Uncharted series said. The adventure's female protagonist was originally conceived as "Elena Vargas," and originally, writer Amy Hennig wanted Claudia Black, the voice of Chloe Frazer in Uncharted 2 to voice her.

Hennig revealed the detail of Fisher's creation on Friday at a panel discussion on Uncharted 3 at Comic-Con 2011, which featured the actress who has portrayed Fisher in all three games, Emily Rose, her longtime costars Richard McGonagle (Sully) and Nolan North (Nathan Drake). Black, the voice of Chloe Frazer in Uncharted 2, was not present, but her character (and voice) will appear in Uncharted 3

Even as a character-driven narrative, Uncharted leaves a lot to its fans' imaginations, Hennig says, and quite deliberately. The long line of questioners asking for background details on the Uncharted canon was evidence of that.

One fan inquired as to what Drake did between Uncharted and Uncharted 2 to ruin his romance with Fisher.

"Oh, is he going to like this game," North said, without elaboration.

Hennig didn't dodge the question but didn't answer it, either. Hennig said one of Uncharted's strengths as a story is the fact its players identify with the game, and that's accomplished by not defining everything, and leaving it to interpretation and implication.

That said, "You're talking about a guy who's got a lot of problems," Hennig said. "He's got some issues."

"So does Drake," North cracked, to laughter.

Uncharted 3 releases Nov. 1.
