Steam Blog - Valve

The 2010 Steam client is now live! The overhaul changes many things about how information is organized on Steam, and makes it easier to do the most important things on the platform, like play games with friends. We wrote up an overview of what's new, so definitely check that out so that you don't miss anything. As we've mentioned, the beta testing went well - participants suggested valuable changes and reported lots of bugs for us to squash.

We're very interested in your thoughts on the new client, so please stop by the forums to tell us what you think.

Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

Updates to Left 4 Dead 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Left 4 Dead 2

Fixed the localization sound caches
Fixed AI tanks sometimes not getting assigned to human players
Fixed exploit in C6M2 where players could jump through a gap in the fence
Fixed commentary maps crashing on load

SDK

Removed Perforce integration and Manifest UI when running Hammer under and SDK deployment
Removed Version control menu for SDK
Material nudging only works if the user has nudging enabled

Newness:
Achievements:

Achievements earned during a round now display on the match end screen
Achievements will now fade in and out on the screen

Weapons:

Placeable objects now rotate 90 degrees per click
New look for the symbiote poison
New holograms have been added for the Turret, Dispenser and Claymore

UI:

Loading tips will now display according to the team you have selected
Player ranks will now show up next to names on the tab screen (visible to your team only)
Dead players will have their rank replaced by a skull while they are dead (visible to both teams)
Hit effects will now linger on the screen for a little bit longer

Bug Fixes:

Changing classes during a battle will no longer remove the bonus xp and will distribute it accordingly
Ping on the tab screen is now more accurately represented
XP earned at match end now displays correctly-Smoke and Shock grenades will no longer stick to players upon exploding
Logging out of the game while being attacked by the Neural Beam will no longer have the effects displayed permanently

Achievements:

Achievements will now be drawn above the tab and score screens

UI:

Artifacts removed from certain UI elements
Exit battle button now highlights consistently

SGC:

The possessed whiteboards have now been exorcised!
The Defcon counter has been adjusted to match cannon.
