Kano, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, and the rest of the gang return today to test your might in Mortal Kombat 11. And yes, they’re bringing that banging theme song back with them. NetherRealm’s latest in the revived and ha-ha-hilariously gory fighting game series continues with another story campaign (which have been an unexpected highlight since the reboot), more new fighters, and more spine-tearingly silly murdermoves. I was not ‘doing a joke’ about the theme song, by the way; hear the new remix in the launch trailer below.

Mortal Kombat 11's street date was shattered this week - and now publisher Warner Bros. is desperately trying to plug leaks.

Mortal Kombat 11's official release date is 23rd April 2019, but UK customers are already in possession of the game after online retailers delivered it early.

Gameplay videos showing significant story moments are all over YouTube, with some content creators including revelations in thumbnails and video titles.

If you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat series, you'll probably know about Shao Khan's taunts.

The barrel-chested announcer has boomed out taunts for years, warning his hapless foes they're about to get crushed by his outrageously-sized man fists as well as narrating the action as he sits on his stone throne.

Shao Khan in Mortal Kombat 11, fully revealed in a video released by developer NetherRealm overnight, trades on nostalgia for these taunts. In the gameplay we see his infamous "you suck!" finger point line, as well as his villainous laugh.

Mortal Kombat is a series known for its gore - and the Fatalities are the goriest moves of them all.

But there's one Fatality in particular I've seen in Mortal Kombat 11 that's really grossed me out.

The Fatality in question belongs to D'Vorah, an insect-like being who made her debut in Mortal Kombat X. She's got horrible stabby limbs, pulls insect babies out of her stomach and uses a swarm of flying insects to dig holes into her opponent. Yuck.

As we edge ever closer to the release date for Mortal Kombat 11, another Kombat Kast has aired for Mortal Kombat 11 and we now have official confirmation that Kitana will be in the game. Many of the 25 or so characters have been revealed so far, but a couple are still yet to have been given some screen time. Given that information tends to get a bit muddied with character reveals for fighting games, I thought I’d put a collection together of the characters that have been officially revealed, as well as who is likely to be joining the roster.

Mortal Kombat 11 has a Kollector - yes, Kollector with a K because this is Mortal Kombat of course.

Mortal Kombat 11's Kollector isn't much like Marvel's, though. Kollector with a K has multiple arms and rips the organs right out of his enemy's body before stuffing them in his backpack. Yum.

The video, below, reveals gameplay of The Kollector for the first time after he'd popped up in the background of previously-released story trailers. He serves Shao Kahn (a, sigh, pre-order bonus character) who spent years in hiding. Now he's back and he's pissed.

Mortal Kombat 11 will scale back the custom variation system for online ranked play.

As part of the Game Informer Mortal Kombat 11 cover reveal, developer NetherRealm confirmed each character will have at least two pre-built variations for use at tournaments and in online ranked play.

Mortal Kombat 11's custom variation system lets you select various special moves to create a loadout of sorts, a bit like picking weapons in Call of Duty. Each variation has three slots for you to assign moves to, and lead designer John Edwards told Game Informer the pre-built variations are "well thought-out".

NetherRealm has confirmed Lui Kang, Kung Lao and Jax for Mortal Kombat 11.

All three characters can be seen in the story trailer, below.

The video shows how past and present characters from the series meet up and sometimes fight each other. We see past and present Jax go at it, for example - in front of their daughter Jacqui. Awkward!

NetherRealm has revealed that Mortal Kombat's demonic ninja Noob Saibot will be returning for the series' imminent eleventh instalment - and that, of course, means a gore-drenched new introductory trailer.

Noob Saibot first made his mark on the Mortal Kombat universe when he appeared as a hidden, non-playable opponent in Mortal Kombat 2. Saiboot would debut as a selectable character two years later, in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and was last seen in 2011.

And if you're wondering about that unusual moniker (as a relative newcomer to the series, I was definitely confused), it's taken from the surnames of Mortal Kombat creators Ed Boon and John Tobias - only, you know, spelled backward.
