Grounded - Obsidian Aarik

🏡 Join Shyla, Obsidian's Social Media Manager, as she reveals all the new and updated content that puts Grounded into the Home Stretch. This is the official last update before Grounded 1.0 releases on September 27th, so we hope you enjoy what the team brought in this update!

A message from the team: This update will be notably lighter than previous ones as we have been putting most of our focus towards 1.0 work and polish which will be our biggest content release to date. The Home Stretch (0.14) is the final major update for Game Preview prior to our 1.0 Release in September. Thank you.

NEW FEATURES
Shared Worlds
Are ya ready everyone, because we are excited to bring to you Shared Worlds!

Shared Worlds are stored in the cloud, and you can share these with any of your friends so they can host that world while you are not online.

As a host, you can own up to three Shared Worlds at any time. But, you can be a part of 50 other Shared Worlds owned by your friends! This makes it easy for you and your friends to continue to have fun alone or together!

Check it out the next time you are playing with your friends!

The Cookery

Craft your delicious backyard meals in the cookery starting this update! This also makes cooking meals easier to get to when players are just starting out, meaning you can now go out adventuring longer than ever… at least before you start to get hungry that is.

Unlock it by purchasing the "Cooking 101" Science Shop unlock which is one of the default unlocks you can purchase once unlocking the ASL station, and then you're good to go.

Pet Gnat

You can now tame and own a bumbling little gnat pet! You'll just need to craft the new Rotten Meat Slurry and hope they enjoy it!

Now you and your gnat can go boop the other bugs in the yard together!

Armor and Weapon Upgrade Changes

The team has been hard at work revamping the Armor and Weapon Upgrade system, so thank everyone for sharing your feedback with us!

You will notice that we have removed Quartzite, Leather Scraps, and Leather Plates. Now when upgrading, you will need to acquire a unique, non-respawning resource called Style and Tough Nuggets found across the yard.

These can be found by harvesting Stones of Toughness or Rocks of Style. For more details, check out the description in the patch notes down below!

PATCH NOTES FOR UPDATE 0.14.0
NEW FEATURES
SHARED WORLDS
You can now create a Shared World as well as the Standard Worlds you have been doing since Game Preview launch. Shared Worlds are stored in the cloud and you can share them with any of your friends so they can host that world while you are not online.

  • You can own up to three Shared Worlds at any given time.
  • You can have 50 worlds shared with you at any given time.
  • Any Standard Worlds from before can be converted to a Shared World via the Save / Load menu.
  • Any Shared World you own or have been shared with you can copy as a local Standard World for you to play on your own.
  • Shared Worlds can only be played by hosting it as a Multiplayer game.
  • Only one person can host a Shared World at a time (others will be able to join the current player who is hosting).
  • Any game progress that happens while anyone is hosting a Shared World will be properly restored regardless of who hosts the world next.
  • NOTE: This feature is considered beta and could have issues and could require online shared saves to be reset / lost as bugs are ironed out. If you test this feature out with a save with lots of progress, make sure it is not the only working copy of the world you have on your account. The shared save service could also go offline at any time during this testing phase to account for issues or updates as needed.

CONVERT NON-CUSTOM GAMES TO CUSTOM
  • You can now convert any non-custom game into a custom game at any time while playing to be able to tune values on any game as you go.

Grounded - Obsidian Shyla

You've been in the backyard a while now traversing the terrain and building up your base. However, for as long as you have been there, the bugs have been there longer, and they are prepared to attack in Grounded's latest update, The Bugs Strike Back!

🏡 Join Shyla, Obsidian's Social Media Manager, as you go through and learn how the bugs are are starting to work together to bring the fight back to your base! With 3 new base defense modes, more things to collect in the backyard, and tons of quality of life improvements, this is one update you won't want to miss!

New Base Defense Modes

Faction Reactivity

Bugs will take the fight back to your base when they get tired of you intruding on their territory or killing their kind. The more you annoy a particular species, the more likely they will say "knock knock!" at your door.

Waft Emitter

Want to anger the yard at will? Build the Waft Emitter and add a pile of rotting bug parts that wafts throughout the yard, enraging whatever bugs whose parts you add to the pile. Of course, the more you add, the more enraged the bugs will be.

Why, you say? Well, why not??? Maybe you want to have bugs delivered straight to you on-demand!

MIX.Rs

Find MIX.R tanks across the yard mixing some good ol' Raw Science for Wendell's experiments. Then, overdrive the system by turning up the mix speed beyond suggested limits and trigger an explosive result to collect the massive amount of Raw Science inside. Though MIX.R Overdrives are noisy and take time, and nearby bugs don't particularly appreciate that.

New Collectibles, Features, and Crafting

Point your PEEP.R at the closest insect near you and get ready to understand your neighbors like you never have before!

Peeping a creature will unlock a Creature Card on the data page of your SCA.B. By unlocking this card, you will have access to that particular creature's strengths, weaknesses, weakspot locations, health and creature tier, the number of this creature you have slain, and, a tasty, flavorful fact!

Field Stations now feature state-of-the-art "Advanced System Library" Terminals that connect directly to BURG.L's lab tech from anywhere in the yard.

The Charcoal Canteen and Charcoal Torch have been added to help you explore and keep you able to explore longer than before without needing to find fresh water or make a new torch.

Quality of Life Improvements

This is something YOU'VE asked for, and it's finally here! You can now swap the difficulty in any game not in Creative Mode!

You can also name your game saves so you can find them easier.

Storage containers can now be named. And Sap Collectors now feature a "Take All" Function.

So Much More!

Check out the full list of changes in our patch notes below:

Grounded - ObsidianDan

The Grounded team is proud to announce that over 10 million players have visited the Backyard!

In honor of this milestone, Game Director Adam Brennecke recorded the following message for everyone:

As part of celebrating this grand achievement that wouldn't be possible without all of you, the team is putting Grounded up for a Steam free weekend!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/962130/Grounded/

Running from February 10 at 10:00 AM PT through February 13 at 8:00 PM PT, new players can experience Grounded and check out the latest update, Into the Wood, through the free weekend.

And don’t forget, Grounded supports cross-play so Steam players can play with both Xbox and PC Game Pass players at any time, meaning if you have friends who haven't played with you yet on any platform, now is the time!

Grounded is only getting bigger and better as the team makes progress towards the 1.0 release later this year and we could not do it without all the support that our community has given us. Thank you for helping us make Grounded the game you, and the dev team, want to play.

Until next time, stay safe and stay grounded, friends!
