The Obenseuer overhaul is now in public testing, and automatically accessible to all owners of the game.
As you may already know, the overhaul is basically a new game with the same idea as the original prototype, but with much more depth and polished features.
As this is still for testing, expect to see bugs, performance issues, etc. We're still working on fixing and smoothing out the kinks before the actual release of the overhaul update.
The Overhaul update has replaced the old prototype, which can still be accessed by right clicking the game on steam -> options -> betas, and selecting 'prototype'.
As some of you may already know, Obenseuer has been in semi-closed playtesting for a some months, and we have made steady progress on quashing bugs, implementing last pieces of missing content and polishing the game. We're close of reaching the point where the all planned features and content of the overhaul are completed and polished, allowing us to release the overhauled game to the public.
Trailer and a roadmap for the planned post-overhaul updates will be posted closer to the release.
Thank you for your patience!
Anyway, here's some screenshots.
PS. You can apply for ongoing playtesting effort from our Discord server, if you own the old version of the game.
Recently we have been seeing some questions whether Obenseuer is still being worked on and wanted to clarify: yes, absolutely its still being worked on!
If you want to follow the development more closely and want a chance to be a playtester for the upcoming beta builds of the new update (once we expand testing to a larger group of players) you should definetly join up on the official Obenseuer Discord server.
Oh well, it's been one year since we last made an update post here...
As you may have already noticed, we're notoriously bad at writing posts (other than posting random screenshots on Discord), so it's about time to bring you up to date.
Anyway, here are some of the key features we have been working on during the past year or so.
Apartment upgrades
The apartment upgrade system has been remade, among with all apartment upgrades. The new apartment upgrade system is more versatile and allows turnip grade mixes of super luxurious kitchens in shabby apartments and so on.
In the upcoming version there are going to be 4 basic tiers of rentable apartments on top of the base frame of the tenement, all divided into parts that will be upgraded separately.
There's also going to be an additional fifth tier later on.
Crafting and cooking
The crafting system has also gone through some major changes. In the old version items were crafted instantaneously, excluding items crafted in ovens and alcohol production, and devices were always powered.
Now all the crafting processes take some time to complete depending on the recipe and the quality of the equipment used. Another major change is that some of the equipment now requires to be fueled for it to be usable. Low tier barrel stoves require burnable fuel such as firewood to work, while higher tier electric stoves require the station to be powered with electricity.
Some recipes now have a chance of failure, like burning a turnip, which also depends on the quality of the equipment used. Besides the success chance, speed and fuel requirement, the level of the equipment also contributes to how many items you are able to craft simultaneously.
Tasks and notes
The upcoming version will finally have a proper quest system, where all the active, ongoing and completed tasks are displayed with all of their stages.
The new quest system will also feature a notes -tab where all the different notes, scribbles and other readable material will be stored.
What's next?
We recently started working on a new NPC system and AI, allowing us to bring more life to the depressing and melancholy streets of Obenseuer. Other than that, we will continue to work on implementing quests and building the environments.
It's been a long time since we actually updated the game or even made any posts about the process, so we thought that we own you guys one.
As you already should know, the game is being completely refactored and overhauled with goals of upgrading graphics, adding new content and especially optimizing the game – to get rid of that terrible terrible FPS ruining everything!
However it would still take quite a time the update is in releasable condition.
But anyway, here's new (and relatively new, as some of you may have seen new pictures being occasionally posted) content to show:
Upcoming: Custom furniture placement
Upcoming: Level redesign
The Open Sewer district has been split into separate zones with different main functions. Such zones will be, but not limited to:
Bazaar – the heart of commerce and industry
Residential – where your quarantined tenement resides
Swamp – I guess turnips come from here?
Mines – Minitrains!!!
Upcoming: Deekula overhaul
Deekula tenement now has more enterable apartments, and the old apartments have far more detail.
Hey, here's the quick update before we actually start redesigning the main level into smaller more manageable chunks with more content and detail, as we recently announced.
So there'll be quite a time before next update will happen, but that will be a major one.
So anyway, what this update does:
Improves FPS
Adds more dialogue
Fixes player getting stuck in prison
Fixes stuff being multiplied in production devices
We're not very happy right now how Open Sewer currently plays and looks, so we will redesign the main level and split it into smaller more manageable zones with more detail and content.
There will be small patch to the current version fixing few bugs and improving FPS, before starting the redesign process. Then there'll be quite a delay before next update.
