Steel Division 2 - [EUG]Papa Yankee
Hello everyone,

We have some important announcements to make about Steel Division 2.

One last delay for the game release
First things first, we need to delay one last time the release of Steel Division 2. The definitive release date will be on June 20th for the Standard Edition & on June 18th for the Digital Deluxe Editions.

We would like to apologize for this new delay, and we would like to explain why we made this decision:

Army General, the single player campaign mode, is an entire new game within the game and it wouldn't be polished enough to be released on May 2nd. This new game mode has evolved a lot during development and is now becoming a compelling and interesting solo experience. We will release a dev diary and a video soon to explain how this 1:1-scale turn-based strategic game mode will be played in the release version.

The tactical part of Steel Division 2, currently in Beta, is in a good shape, and we're getting a lot of positive feedback from our community. We're watching closely every comment you write on the game. This extra development time will allow us to improve this popular game mode with some of your suggestions.

Steel Division 2 is our first self-published game, and we want to deliver the best game possible. Delaying the game a second time is an incredibly hard decision for us and we understand that some of you are disappointed.

But we'll make it up to you.

More (and better) beta playtime
Consequently, you will be able to play the game longer before release. Way longer. The initial plan was to make 5 48-hour phases before release. After the first phase, we heard your requests and made a 4-day Beta Phase 2. As you know, Phase 3 will start on Thursday, April 18th and will be 5 days long, until Tuesday, April 23rd.

From May 29th the Beta will be playable non-stop until release on June 20th. It will get updated during this 3-week period and we're preparing very cool content for you guys.

Additionally, there will be at least a fourth Beta phase in-between and we'll keep you updated. Before the game's release, we will continue to publish Dev Diaries (the next one's about Level Design) and to keep you posted on the game's development.

Thank you for your support
As a conclusion, we would like to thank you all for your support and your feedback on the beta. Reading so many useful comments, seeing all those badass screenshots and watching these cool videos on Youtube made by you guys is really amazing.

We can't wait to put Steel Division 2 in your hands.

Steel Division 2 - [EUG]Papa Yankee

Hello all! As you might have noticed, news around Steel Division 2 have been moving pretty fast in these last couple of days: we just have announced the Beta start date, the game's new release date, and released a new gameplay video! That doesn’t mean we are slacking off when it comes to our dev diaries, though. If you want to take a tour of some of the many new tactical features, orders and small details players will be able to encounter in Steel Division 2.

The beta starts in less than a week, pre-order Steel Division 2 now to secure your access!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/919640/Steel_Division_2/

We are very hard at work to get Steel Division 2 ready. You know our disclaimer by now, so please disregard any typos, incorrect stats, visual glitches or other bugs. All these will be fixed at launch.

Radio and Corrected Shot
One of the new features of Steel Division 2 is that certain units will come equipped with radio, one of them being the new Artillerist. These special troops will be able to help guns to rain down more accurate fire on the enemy with so-called Corrected Shots.

You might have spotted a glimpse of the Artillerist in our Deck video which you can view here. We named it Surgical Strike back then, but as of now, this mechanic is called Corrected Shot.

The way the new mechanic works is that the Artillerist will have a circular area of effect centered on the unit. Thanks to the radio, a howitzer further back will be able to shoot into the Artillerist area with greater accuracy. When using Corrected Shot, firing shells into the area will reduce the aiming time, increasing the rate of fire of your artillery piece. If you want to press “Ctrl” and aim, you will be able to do a normal, uncorrected, shot in this area.

New Unit Orders
We are introducing two new orders you can give to your units in the field.

A lot of them were already featured in the Skirmish Gameplay video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzCkuTvJYnU

  • Quick Hunt. This new order fuses the familiar “Fast Move” order (units will try to go as fast as possible by using the road network on the map) with "Hunt". Giving this order to a unit will make it travel along along the roads, at speed, but attack any enemy troops if they are spotted. A good, aggressive move.

  • Efficient Shot. This is a neat new order that tells the unit to hold fire until it has a penetration chance of 40% AND a hit chance of 40% before shooting at an opposing unit. Pretty smart, especially when used on an AT gun lying in ambush.

Line of Sight
The Line of Sight mechanic has been updated to reflect the new topology of Steel Division 2’s, which includes more pronounced hills and plateau. Compared to Steel Division: Normandy 44, the line of sight in Steel Division 2 now takes into account the difference in elevation when projecting what a unit can or cannot see. This means high church towers now play an important role as observation posts and using blind spots on steep hills sides, as well.

Aggregation Zoom Option
We talked about this new feature before, but we wanted to explain a bit more about the aggregation zoom mechanic. This new option will dynamically update how a selection of units will be shown depending on the distance they are viewed from. So, if a player is up close and selects a group of two or three T-34’s, they will all be displayed separately (including their label). Zooming out, and they will automatically be grouped under one unit icon label if a sufficient camera distance has been achieved. It is a mechanic we brought over from our Wargame-series of games.

This is also a functionality we implemented after community feedback and because of the greater distances you are going to encounter in Steel Division 2. It makes sense when handling larger groups of tanks and troops, but it is an option you can switch on or off in the menus.

Total Immersion
The last thing we want to touch upon is our effort to increase the level of immersion you, the player, will encounter in Steel Division 2. It is not one, but many elements that work closely together to make up the believable battlefields of the Eastern Front.

If you check out one of our tanks up close, you will be able to hear the motor idling, see the belching of diesel fumes when it moves, or notice the whine of the turret when it traverses. Another example is if an airplane gets shot down, and it crashes in a forest, the resulting explosion will blow up some trees, while others will remain standing, but with their trunks on fire. And if you check out the AA vehicle that did the shooting, you’ll see the actual recoil of the guns and the ejection of the individual shell casings.

One visual element we removed from the work-in-progress versions of Steel Division 2 was the noticeable smoke trails from guns and shells. As we now calculate realistic speeds, not having obvious tracer lines all the time looks (and feels) more authentic.

Conclusion
We are not done with the dev diaries just yet, so hang in tight for next week’s installment where we are going to talk more about the map design. Don’t forget to check out the Steel Division 2 newsletter,pre-order the game on steam, and visit our pre-order store.
Steel Division 2 - [EUG]Papa Yankee

Hello everyone! As you can see, no dev diary today, as we have some important announcement to make. Don't worry, the Dev Diary, about the Real-Time Tactical new features, will be published tomorrow.

The Beta Starts on March 27th
The first phase of the Steel Division 2 Beta, available for every player who pre-purchased the game, will start on March 27th and will be 48 hours long. The beta will then start again for a second 48-hours phase on the following week, and so on until release. We are aiming a total of 5 beta phases.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/919640/Steel_Division_2/

Each phase of the beta will allow us to gather as much feedback as possible from you. Besides classic bug fixing and optimization, this long beta will help us to improve the game and deliver the best tactical and strategic experience to you at the game's release.

On the first phase, you will have access to:
  • Two Divisions: The 2nd GuardsTank Corps & the 5. Panzerdivision
  • Three Game Modes: Conquest, Closer Combat and Breakthrough, featuring the brand-new Defensive Structures
  • Two Maps, including Orsha North
Every phase of the beta will see new content to discover. Time to update your drivers and make some room on your hard drive!

Releasing the game on May 2nd
As a result, the game will be available on May 2nd instead of April 4th, and owners of any Digital Deluxe Edition (Total Conflict, Commander Deluxe & General Deluxe) will be able to play the game from April 30th.

Delaying a game is never an easy choice, but the producing the best game possible is our main priority, and we feel that your feedback during the Beta will help us achieving this goal.

Steel Division 2 is, in terms of content, a huge, ambitious game. Even in the Standard Edition, the game will feature, at release:

  • Army General, 4 Turn-based Strategic Campaigns
  • 18 Divisions
  • 6 Historical Battles, playable in solo, coop & multiplayer
  • 25 Real-time Skirmish maps
  • 3 game modes, including Breakthrough, playable in solo, coop & multiplayer
  • 600+ units
  • A new Deck Builder
  • The Armory
The game is packed with cool new gameplay features, such as the new Defensive Structures, the Commanders, and more unnannounced features (we'll talk about it just below). The content is even bigger if you own Steel Division: Normandy 44, as you will get the Back to War pack for free.

We also have serious post-launch plans for the game, including (besides constant improvement of the game, of course), 10 free DLC (including maps, divisions, aces, camos, and more) releasing during the year after Steel Division 2’s release.

And now: some gameplay!
Spoiler alert: the following content contains some gameplay elements that will be detailed in tomorrow's Dev Diary. You've been warned!

In this video, we are playing a 1v1 Closer Combat Battle against the A.I. on the Orsha North map. The 2nd GuardsTank Corps Battlegroup we are using is very similar to the one we've built on the Deck Builder video, and we're fighting against the 5. Panzerdivision. All this content will be available on the first phase of the Beta.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzCkuTvJYnU

Even if the video is edited (to make it more digestible), the battle you will see was only played once, we didn't cut it to make it look like the perfectly-executed battle. Some tactical mistakes were made. Some good men died. Damn war.

You will probably notice some minor glitches (one of them being the "shield" appearing on the plane's labels), but they will be fixed before the beta starts on March 27th.

We will keep you posted on the exact Beta start date and on the complete Beta schedule soon, so stay tuned!
