Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
Stage 5 approaches, and the seasonal campaign for Season X: Highlanders is about to reach its crescendo. The main objective for the grand finale of Territory Wars is the fortress city of Turul Város, the home of kings, named after the legendary 'turul' bird of popular mythology.

Territory Wars take place every Tuesday and Saturday, and when Stage 5: Imperial Dawn begins on February 14, the battle for the Capital of Ungverija will take centre stage. Team up with your House or Alliance to gain control and become its sole owners until the Territory War reset just before the start of Season XI.
History
Turul Város is one of the greatest cities west of the Borderlands, but as the war between Loegria and Aelba rages on, battles and plagues have devastated the site and it is entering a slow decline. The clans who live within its walls struggle to find work and food and are suffering as a result. This lack of strength tempts invaders to try to claim Turul Város for themselves.

Strategy
General Tips
  • Four paths lead the way to Turul Város, the walled capital city. The busy lanes inside provide cover but not much space to work with.
  • There are two supply points outside the city and two inside. Make sure you claim as many as you can as soon as possible so you can resupply and easily bring more units into the fray.
  • Bottlenecks are rampant in the winding streets, so both attackers and defenders should be wary of turning a corner and running headfirst into a lethal attack.
Attack
  • Put pressure on both the gate and the walls until you can break through. If you fail, try to take the supply point first.
  • Deploy mortars to weaken the enemy defence, and attempt to take control of the upper bridge that runs above the base point.
  • Build ladders and use the siege engines to ascend the walls, and use them again to break into the castle within the city where the base point lies. Deploy artillery to demolish the gate to make your way inside.
Defend
  • Defenders should man the high walls of the city to prevent the first wave of attacks and attempts to use ladders to climb up. Make sure to focus attacks on siege engines as they approach.
  • Spread your defensive formations tactically as attackers have multiple access opportunities.
  • Set up defences at choke points, and keep an eye on impending invasions of the upper bridge.
Victory
To the victor, go the spoils! Members of the House and Alliance which win Turul Város will receive a special Player Title. Prizes are also larger than for ordinary fiefs, and those rewards can be found here.

The Highlanders clans have answered the call to freedom, and there are many brave kinsmen who will fight by your side for Turul Város, including Bagpipers, Claymores, and Houndsmen.

To participate in the Campaign and the battle for Turul Város (and next season’s Territory Wars), you must belong to an NPC or player-controlled House/Cohort or Alliance. Head to the ‘Battle’ interface or the open world to fight alongside your allies and gain control of settlements. For more information about Territory Wars, check out our top tips here.

Season X: Highlanders is not yet over, but you can find out about the rewards for Houses, Alliances, and individual players based on performance and achievements ahead of time!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE END OF SEASON X
From the end of scheduled maintenance on March 3, Season X: Highlanders will officially be over. Until the next season starts, Glory will no longer be issued as a reward for participating in matchmaking battles, including Expeditions and Free Battles, Territory War battles, or general levelling. However, in line with previous seasons, Glory can still be earned from Weekly Challenges, Royal Thistle, and Noble Thistle. The Seasonal Store will also remain accessible in its current configuration until a new season begins.

After the Campaign Results have been tallied, Territory Wars will run as Drill Wars until the start of Season XI, with the exception of March 1 (where Territory Wars will be replaced with Free Battles). Neither Reginopolis, Augolia, nor Turul Város can be conquered during this time, and any Fiefs captured will not count towards Triumph rewards.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
On January 26, two teams of content creators and Conqueror’s Blade staff combined their powers and took to the stage for a battle of epic proportions. Don’t worry if you missed all the bloodthirsty (and hilarious) action of The Clash: Reloaded, as we have all the results, clips, and quotes you need right here.

“Before the games, I felt pretty confident that we were going to put on a show. I talked some trash and I wanted to put the fire under the enemy team and honestly, it worked a little too well. Remember, Warlords - don't put "it's just not your day, is it?" until you're absolutely sure it's just not their day.”

- Bluntcast, Community Manager

Two balanced teams, a best-of-three format, and three maps—what could go wrong?
Match 1
Reginopolis was the first map chosen. Team B was able to take the victory as attackers, as Team A on defence gave up Point A and B tactically to focus their efforts on defending the final point. However, they weren’t able to keep the attackers at bay in the end.

Winner - Team B

Match 2
The second match was played on White Elk Fort, with Team B taking the defending position. However, in a surprising move for defenders, they came straight out the gate and obliterated the entirety of Team A! Team A managed to conquer the walls but didn’t have enough time to capture Point A. And with map two, the best-of-three was over!

Winner - Team B

Match 3
It seems a shame to omit the final map selected for the event… so the Kurak Castle battle went ahead! With forced randomised mixed teams, and just for fun, you can see how it all went down right here on Zimster’s VOD.

So how did it feel to battle in The Clash: Reloaded? Check out some quotes from our courageous competitors!

“I wanted to rush B, but there was no point B”
- Milord, Community Manager

“Always nice to be part of something that is more fun than competitive!”
- ProfessorAlucard, Content Creator

“It was a TON of fun. I think the decision to use only blue units was really fun and engaging for everyone!”
- GamerQing93, Content Creator

"It was great to watch the CCs strategise and plan! And then I forgot my mic was muted.... but we won so..."
- KT_Peridot, Community Manager

“Veni Vidi... Hmm well... I was there!"
- Azureus, Senior Community Manager

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
Myths and legends spark our imaginations and pique our curiosity, and none more so than fantastical creatures. Every culture and country has their own set of superb beasties dating back to ancient times, and Scotland is no exception. Some are better known than others, like the loch–dwelling Nessie, and others are far more obscure and mysterious.

Join us as we examine seven splendid Scottish mythical creatures, and where you can see them (if you’re lucky!).
Unicorn
The Unicorn is a magnificent and magical one-horned horse that also stands proudly as the national animal of Scotland! Embraced by the country as a symbol of power and purity, it has appeared on the royal coat of arms since the 12th century. Unicorns possess magical powers within their horn, blood, and mane, and are not easily spotted. However, if you keep your eyes peeled when exploring the cities of Scotland, you may come across a unicorn on your travels! Statues, tapestries, and even ship figureheads are adorned with the image of the beloved creature from Stirling to Dundee.

Kelpie
The Kelpie is a shape-shifting water horse that makes its home in the various lochs and lakes of Scotland. In Scottish folklore, the malevolent kelpie uses its tame horse-like visage or the form of a beautiful human to lure unsuspecting humans into a watery grave. The ploughman poet Robert Burns himself wrote of the kelpies in the poem "Address to the Devil";

When thowes dissolve the snawy hoord

An' float the jinglin icy boord

Then, water-kelpies haunt the foord

By your direction

An' nighted trav'llers are allur'd

To their destruction.

Legend has it that the best place to spot a kelpie is at none other than Loch Ness—the place is just crawling with mythical creatures!
Redcap
The Redcap is a deadly little elfen creature with sharp teeth and claws, who wants nothing more than human blood in which to soak his tiny cap, lest he dies. This particularly nasty mythical murderer hangs out in ruined castles along the Scottish border, where those seeking refuge from ancient battles may stumble into their home—and never return. Trying to seek out a redcap would almost certainly result in death, as it is said they cannot be outrun.
Brownies
The Brownie is a helpful household spirit who emerges when the house’s humans are asleep and begin completing chores such as cooking and cleaning. If you fancy a bit of help with the housework in the wee hours, you can attract these tiny workers by leaving out a gift or offering of milk. Be careful not to offend them by presenting them with clothing, however, as the brownie will disappear and never return.

Wulver
Stalking the Scottish Shetland Islands is a wolf-humanoid creature known as the Wulver. Unlike many creatures in this list, the wulver is kind and coy, and is known to help out humans in need by leaving them fish or helping lost travellers. You can spot this benevolent beastie around the lochs and rivers of the Shetlands sitting on a small rock in deep waters known as the "Wulver's Stane" and spending its days peacefully fishing.
Bean Nighe
Another waterside-dwelling mythical creature is Bean Nighe, the washerwoman who haunts streams, washing the clothes of those about to die. You probably shouldn’t seek out this legendary laundress, as her presence is an omen of death, but if you must catch a glimpse of the stout otherworldy woman dressed in green, she has been seen on the larger islands of Scotland, such as Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides.
Selkies
Selkies or “Seal Folk” are shapeshifters who can switch from seal to human forms simply by shedding their skin. Their myth originated in Orkney and Shetland where tales of selkie-wives were told. A man who sought out a selkie as a wife would steal her seal skin, trapping her on land where she longs to return to the sea. These gentle and beautiful creatures are not dangerous like sirens and often meet depressing ends at the hands of humans. If left in their natural habitat, the soulful, curious eyes of the selkie can be seen bobbing above the surface of the waters of Scotland.

A statue of a selkie.

The magical and mythical creatures that inhabit Scotland’s folklore may exist purely in legend, but their tales make up the detailed tapestry of a rich and vast culture. Explore the places and people that inspired Season X: Highlanders, including a geography lesson, a warrior king, and the real Macbeth.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
When Shakespeare penned Macbeth in the early 1600s, William could never have imagined how culture and literature would be forever changed by the tragedy. The Scottish Play may have been filled with fantasy, deceit, and murder, but how true was the classic story to the life of the king on which it was based?

The real Macbeth was King of the Scots and the Kingdom of Alba from 1040-1057 and went by many names—Mac Bethad mac Findlaích, MacBheatha mac Fhionnlaigh, or Macbeth son of Findlay. While his life may not have been as dramatic as Macbeth’s (that’s theatre, darling!), some of the names, places, and actions remain the same, and their influence indebted more to fact than fiction.
Something Wicked This Way Comes
The tale of a man with no claim to the throne, overcome with a lust for power that sees him commit terrible acts brought about by the prophecies of a gaggle of witches, is just that—a story. Little is known about Macbeth due to his reign having come and gone almost 1,000 years ago, but we can be quite sure that there was no Lady Macbeth lurking in the shadows and forcing his hand, as happens in the Shakespeare work. In fact, the real Macbeth’s wife, Gruoch, was a noble queen, standing steadfastly by her husband’s side and ruling alongside him. Gruoch’s loyalty to her beau extended beyond the realm of the living, as she was even said to have committed suicide following Macbeth’s death.

Macbeth was not quite as bloodthirsty and delusional as Shakey made him out to be—he ruled over ancient Scotland with a steady hand for almost a decade and came to be monarch in a natural and honourable way (for the time).

The Real Macbeth
Is This A Dagger Which I See Before Me?
King Macbeth may be based on a real historical figure but his right to the crown was legitimate and didn’t require direct assassination. This respectable claim was owed to his own mother’s bloodline, who was descended from Kenneth MacAlpin, a King considered to be the founder of Scotland who ruled over Alba and the Picts from 843–858.

Shakespeare’s Macbeth, however, had virtually no claim to the throne, hence his murderous and underhanded act of stabbing Duncan while he slept, but not before some brooding reflection. Duncan was also not the elderly or strong leader he was portrayed as in Macbeth and was actually a young and weak king. Macbeth’s succession to the throne came after King Duncan rode to the region of Moray, where Macbeth sat as ruler. Duncan was slain during the battle, and Macbeth took his place as King of Scots.
Blood Will Have Blood
While the fictional and factual Macbeths may not have all that much in common, their untimely deaths are one thing they share. The Bard’s version of Macbeth was beheaded by Macduff as revenge for slaughtering his family after he rode into battle with the murdered Duncan’s son and forces from England.

The real Macbeth also met a somewhat sticky end at the hands of the English and Duncan’s son. In 1057, a battle at the Aberdeenshire village of Lumphanan would be Macbeth’s last, following a mortal blow delivered by Duncan I’s son, Malcolm.

All in all, the themes of poetic justice in death and a lust for control are catnip to a writer, not to mention a warning to those in power to not abuse their position. Shakespeare is said to have written Macbeth as a tribute to King James I, a newly crowned Scot, whose ancestors play the role of the heroes.
