Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
Starting out in any MMO can feel a little daunting, especially when the player base ranges from novices to day-one veterans. If you’re confused about where to start in your journey for glory, look no further than our new player’s guide to Conqueror’s Blade!

You can also catch up on the essentials with our beginner’s guide.
Choosing your weapon in Conqueror’s Blade
The perfect weapon is key to any Warlord’s victory in Conqueror’s Blade, and with twelve to choose from, you can try out all the options until you find a weapon that suits your playstyle.
Poleaxe
Pick up a Poleaxe if you fancy crowd-control effects and being on the frontline of combat. The weapon inflicts slow but heavy strikes, so don’t expect to slash and dash.
Pike
The Pike is great for harassing due to its extremely mobile nature and versatile skills. Couple that with a short skill cooldown, and you’ll be poking foes all day.
Spear
Great for those who want to stay atop their mount in battles and poke their enemies with a long sharp stick.
Maul
With huge damage potential against both Units and Warlords, the Maul is unwieldy yet devastating.
Longbow
For those who like to find a comfortable place to snipe from, this long-range bow is definitely in your wheelhouse.
Shortbow
A shorter-ranged bow, the Shortbow inflicts single target damage.
Longsword
The Longsword is heavily oriented around defensive play and supporting allies with their abilities. A steadfast presence on the battlefield!
Shortsword
The classic “Sword and Board” is built around pressing the attack with heavy armour and skills oriented around leading from the front.
Nodachi
This weapon focuses on healing the player through attacks and would benefit from well-planned use of its cooldowns.
Glaive
The Glaive is a versatile weapon with a lot of different possible builds. It particularly excels when used for powerful mounted attacks.
Dual Blades
Become a deadly assassin when you wield the Dual Blades, inflicting heavy damage to single targets, and capable of infiltrating ranks.
Musket
Dealing heavy damage as a close-range class, the Musket is perfect for those missing the more modern side of weaponry.
How to use the Unit Tree in Conqueror’s Blade
During your battles, you will gather Honour, and this can be used to progress in the Unit Tree by unlocking new units and making them stronger. As you progress through different eras, units will become more powerful. Make sure to use Doctrines to add special effects and buffs to your soldiers!

In-game currency in Conqueror’s Blade (and how to use it)
There are seven types of in-game currency in Conqueror’s Blade, and knowing how to earn and use each is invaluable to your experience.
 • Fame: Fame is a seasonal currency that is rewarded for participating in Bandit Raids and donating to your Quartermaster. The Fame Store allows you to purchase exclusive items!
 • Honour: Honour is a crucial currency for expanding your Unit Tree to unlock and enhance your units. Unlocking eras will grant you access to more powerful units.
 • Sovereigns: Sovereigns are your premium currency! These can be used to purchase cosmetic items and consumables, customise your hero, change up your unit's wardrobe and pick up the season Battle Pass. You can also spend Sovereigns to pay off challenges that are proving troublesome.
 • Silver: Earn Silver by completing quests, and use it to buy and sell goods at the in-game market, buy artillery from the merchants, or upgrade equipment for your troops.
 • Blades: Blades are a seasonal currency that you can spend in the Seasonal Store and can be earned by levelling up your Battle Pass. Pick up antique and rare variants of attires for your hero, unit and weapon, and more.
 • Bronze: Bronze is the main currency in Conqueror’s Blade, and can be earned by completing quests, participating in battles, and selling items. It can be used to purchase items and heal your wounded Units.
 • Leadership: Leadership is your Hero's capacity to command units. Each unit costs a fixed amount of Leadership to command, and the higher their power, the higher the cost. Players can craft armour that grants bonus leadership while equipped to allow more powerful units to join your Warband.
How the Open World works in Conqueror’s Blade
While you’ll spend most of your time in the cities (or in battles!) you can always take a trip to the Open World to gather valuable resources and find treasures, but also encounter bandits and other players to combat, giving you much-needed experience.

How to play solo in Conqueror’s Blade
While many players join a House (a guild in Conqueror’s Blade) or play in a group, for those wishing to go down the solo route, all is not lost. You can still become a fearsome Warlord all on your own with these tips.
 • Train: Training modes help to familiarise you with the core gameplay mechanics of Conqueror’s Blade.
 • Bandit Raids: Take on Bandit Raids to gain Fame, level up Units, and practice with your chosen weapon.
 • Expeditions: Expeditions offer challenging scenarios where you can join your allies in PvE combat.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
In medieval England, two families fought for the crown: the Tudors and the Stewarts (also spelt Steuart or Stuart) were related by blood, but their struggle came to a head with Mary Queen of Scots and her cousin Elizabeth I both staked a claim for the English throne. This great rivalry between the daughters of Henry VIII and James V has painted Mary as feisty, impulsive, and “a bad woman” in the history books—but what was she really like?

Scots at the time (due to their somewhat chaotic recent history) may have been thought of as brash and hostile, but Mary was quite the opposite. She was demure, elegantly tall, and well-educated, primarily thanks to her French upbringing from age five, where she was exposed to all the finery and dignity of the French court.

Ascending to the throne over 200 years after it was reclaimed by the Scots by her very own ancestor King Robert the Bruce, the far-from-brutish Mary had a lot of heroism to live up to.

Mary set the trend of wearing white for weddings when it was traditionally a colour of mourning.

We’re here to set the record straight on some of Mary’s finer points (as well as her flaws) and explore how Mary Queen of Scots may spend her days—and how the clans would receive her—if she ruled over the Highlands in Conquerors Blade...
How Do You Solve a Problem Like Mary?
While Mary was said to be a “strong leader”, her obsession with gaining the English throne and willingness to accept her advisors’ guidance as gospel led her subjects to dislike her. Historian Dr Wormald revealed that Mary was unsuitable for her position and simply unwilling to try to govern, mostly because of her wanting for the English crown. This possible distaste for her own country lead to this complaint from Mary herself:

“My subjects in Scotland do their duty in nothing, nor have they performed their part in one thing that belongeth to them. I am their queen, and so they call me, but they do not use me so…They must be taught to know their duties.”

As the Highlanders fight for their freedom from encroaching Loegrian forces, they may also detest a monarch seeking to rule elsewhere and couldn’t make her own decisions.
There’s Something About Mary
Astrologists will be intrigued to discover that Mary Queen of Scots was a true Sagittarius—defined by her fun-loving and social personality. Mary cast aside the tradition of the shy retiring female monarch and became the first woman to play golf in Scotland when she teed off at St. Andrews, the oldest golf course in the world. Rumours suggest that she coined the term “caddie” when using military cadets to carry her clubs.

Mary also engaged in other unsightly hobbies such as disguising herself as a stable boy and exploring the streets of Edinburgh at night (Princess Jasmine, is that you?).

Yes, Mary’s free-spirited personality may have been seen as a hindrance by some, but we think the Highland clans would relish a queen who indulged in a bit of fun every now and then. Perhaps she would even join the Houndsmen on their hunting expeditions or dance along to the Bagpipers tunes.

While Mary may not have ruled with an iron fist like her cousin Elizabeth, and her upbringing delightfully posh, we think the clan chieftains would accept Mary with open arms, and perhaps even support her conquest for the English throne.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
While hunting may be a peacetime pursuit in the Highlands, the Houndsmen must prepare to battle on behalf of their clans in Season X: Highlanders. Along with their faithful canines, they possess archery prowess, and there is no battle they won’t dive headfirst into with man’s best friend at their side.

Exclusive Houndsmen Attire
To commemorate the Houndsmen’s release, you can pick up the Roving Huntsmen Unit Attire until January 24 (23:59 server time/23:59 CET) in-game or via MY.GAMES Market. It’s exclusive, so it will help your Houndsmen to really stand out in the crowd!

Suitable for the harsh climate of the Highlands, Houndsmen don this apparel to survive the bad weather of their hunting trips. With determination and a bit of luck, the hunters and their hounds will return to the clans with a kill fit for their laird's table.

Unlocking
The Houndsmen can be unlocked by completing Seasonal Unit Challenges. They also enjoy a Seasonal Bonus in the form of Leadership requirements decreased by 10 points for the duration of Season X.
Gameplay
The Houndsmen are keen archers and use their dogs to help in their hunting expeditions. Their arrows can slow enemies or inflict heavy bleeding, and their hounds are there to ensure those injuries become fatal. The hounds are loyal to the end and will continue to clash with foes after their master has perished.

Just the facts: Houndsmen (5-Star)
Formations
 • Dispersed: A loose formation that reduces unit vulnerability to ranged weapons.
 • Stand Ground: The unit spread out slightly with their hounds to the front. Suitable for ranged attacks.
Unit Traits
 • Trained Hunters: Enemies hit with arrows from the hunters will suffer bleeding for two seconds.
 • Loyal Hound: Hounds will attack any foe that attacks this unit, reducing enemy attacks and movement speed.
 • Man’s Best Friend: Hounds have 4,800 Health, a sprint speed of 9,300, and 300 for all defence attributes. A hound and its master have a deep affinity for one another. When a hound attacks an enemy that a Houndsmen skill has already hit, the effect is strengthened. When all the Houndsmen are killed, the hounds will continue to surround and attack enemies for 5 seconds before dying.
 • Highlanders: For the duration of Season X, this unit’s Leadership cost is reduced by 10 points.
Unit Orders
 • Hunting Stance: For their next attack, the hunters will fire three arrows at the enemy in rapid succession, which can be used to trigger Trained Hunters. If hounds attack a bleeding enemy, the effect will be increased.
 • Hobbling Shots: The unit fires arrows that inflict a Slow effect in the designated area. If hounds attack a slowed enemy, the Slow effect will be increased.
 • Get ‘em!: Hounds charge in the designated direction and gnash enemies along the way. After using this, you can use the ‘Heel!’ skill to return them to their unit.
Houndsmen are now available to unlock via Unit Challenges.

NOTE: The above information is correct as of the time of publication. Please check in-game for the most up-to-date Unit information.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
In the Scots’ fight for freedom from the English, the groundwork laid by William Wallace set the stage for Robert the Bruce to take arms and continue the cause. Wallace resigned as Guardian of Scotland after his loss at the Battle of Falkirk, and Robert took on the mantle; reinvigorating the efforts to place a Scot on the throne once more.

Born in 1274 AD, Robert the Bruce grew up in an affluent household as the son of an Earl and a Countess, a life of glory laid out before him. It wouldn’t be long before he took up the cause for Scotland’s true independence from England. Despite John Balliol sitting as the King of Scots, King Edward I of England continued to subjugate Scotland and undermine their king.

Statue of Robert the Bruce in Aberdeen

When Edward raised his immense army and invaded Scotland in 1296, Balliol abdicated after a crushing defeat at both Berwick and Dunbar and was imprisoned in the Tower of London. Edward then inducted his English lords to rule Scotland.

One peculiar thing to note about Robert the Bruce is that he actually swore an oath of fealty to King Edward I of England, but this would last for less than a year before Robert joined the revolt against him.

“We fight not for glory, nor for wealth, nor honour but only and alone for freedom which no good man surrenders but with his life”.

Robert the Bruce

Robert the Bruce, while remembered as a great hero, wasn’t without his flaws, and harbours a complicated and dark past. His intentions and actions may be seen as honourable, noble, and even legendary, but Robert had to do a great many things that would be considered villainous to ascend to the throne. One of these was murdering his rival, John “the Red” Comyn in 1306. The Comyns and the Bruces were rivals for the ages, and both had set their sights on the crown. John and Robert were already sharing the title of Guardian of Scotland, and neither wanted to continue this trend when it came to becoming royalty (a claim they both believed they had a right to).

Robert the Bruce arranged for a meeting with John the Red Comyn, where a “business” discussion quickly turned into violence, and Comyn was struck down. Robert himself did not deal the final blow (his men tended to that), but he was directly responsible for his death. Some historians view this as usurpation, while others claim that he was left with no choice in the matter if he wished to propel Scotland to glory.

A mere six weeks following Comyn’s death, Robert was crowned King of Scots, and the true fight against the English could begin. Defeating the English forces at every turn and reclaiming castles all over Scotland, King Robert I set his sights on a battle of epic proportions, one that would become synonymous with his fight for freedom—the Battle of Bannockburn.

On June 23, 1314, Robert the Bruce led his band of Scots towards an advancing English cavalry, where the king subjected an English Knight named Henry de Bohun to a brutal slaying by axe, whereupon his men rushed the English troops, forcing them to retreat.

On the second day of battle, defeated from their previous day of shameful combat, English morale was low as they crossed into Bannockburn. Outnumber four to one, the Scots surrounded and slew them in great numbers, causing Edward to flee, and the battle to be lost for the English. This David and Goliath battle resulted in the immediate retaking of Stirling Castle by Bruce, and this unlikely victory for Scotland eventually led to the Treaty of Edinburgh–Northampton in 1328 where Scotland’s independence was recognised, and Bruce’s right as ruler acknowledged.

A drawing depicting King Edward being refused entry to Stirling Castle following the Battle of Bannockburn. From the “British Battles on Land and Sea” (1873)

While Bannockburn wasn’t the be-all and end-all of Scotland’s fight for sovereignty, it marked the start of a historic change for the country, and cemented Robert the Bruce as the legendary hero he has since become.

The fight for freedom is still ongoing for the clans in Season X: Highlanders, and you can join the campaign with brand-new units including the fearless Claymores, who we think Robert himself would have been proud to take into battle.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
Last week, we shared our thoughts on balance changes and laid out some of the challenges we want to overcome. Now, we are now rolling out a series of alterations to some units, weapons, and runes in need of modifications, with this first batch of changes going live on January 13, 2022.
Balance Changes
On January 13, we will be implementing several changes to units, weapons, and runes, in order to provide a more balanced game experience. For further details, please read the latest patch notes.

Unit Changes

Axe Raiders

The stats for the Axe Raiders reveal that their average damage taken is 531,100 (23.4% higher than the second-ranked unit) and damage dealt of 273,200 ranked first amongst all units (15.7% higher than the second-ranked unit), and their pick rate was 6.8% (ranked third amongst all units). This exceeded all expectations and intentions, and due to this, we have decided to make changes to their recovery rate from control effects, and their Spite ability to negate their overpowered passive defensive capabilities.

Modao Battalion

The Modao Battalion’s pick rate places them first amongst all units at 9.1%, with averages of 395,200 damage taken (ranked fourth amongst all units) and 157,800 damage dealt (ranking ninth amongst all units). While in Modao Defence, their damage reduction is overpowered, therefore we are making adjustments to improve their strength against cavalry. 20% overall damage reduction will be replaced by 33% against cavalry and 8% against infantry.

Liao's Rangers

We are not satisfied with where the Liao's Rangers sits in terms of their low pick rate of 0.2% (ranked 62nd amongst all units), average damage dealt of 163,100 (ranked seventh amongst all units), and low accuracy while charging (around 15% at 20m), despite being a highly unique cavalry unit. To increase their usefulness and viability, their accuracy rate will be improved and the number of bullets increased. The buff the unit gains from movement speed will also be increased to inflict an extra 15% damage.

Firearm Infantry

Using Tercio Arquebusiers as an example, which ranked 29th with a pick rate of 0.7% in Season IX: Tyranny, we realise that Firearm Infantry has a difficult time dealing burst damage in battles, and their accuracy declines at longer distances. Their damage decay will be reduced and overall accuracy will be increased, while an issue with incorrect sound effects being played when firing will also be fixed.

Cataphract Lancers

According to player feedback, the Cataphract Lancers are still not up to par following recent changes to their kit, and are sitting at a 1.1% pick rate (ranked 24th amongst all units) with an average of 222,500 damage dealt (ranked fifth amongst all units). Rally To Me will be improved again, and when the unit is near the commanding hero, they will slightly speed up while moving closer to the target.

Fortebraccio Pikemen

As the unit with the longest melee weapon, the Fortebraccio Pikemen should be able to counter cavalry well, but that is currently not the case. They are also sitting at a lower than average pick rate of 0.2% (ranked 62nd). Therefore, their damage to cavalry while using Brace will increase by 15%, as will the damage inflicted based on enemy movement speed.

Hero & Weapon Changes

We have noticed that certain weapon classes are used less and have a lower win rate than average. With this round of changes, our focus has been to make adjustments to two weapon classes in particular. We will continue to make adjustments to other weapons where balance changes are required in the future and will detail these in the patch notes.

Longsword & Shield

The Longsword & Shield (ranked eighth with a win rate of 50.11%) is the only weapon class capable of healing, but its effectiveness is currently too low to truly make an impact. It’s possible that this contributes to its low place ranking amongst all weapons used (ranked tenth at 5.5%). It is often the case that you're killed before you can heal; to mitigate this, triggering Mercy of Heaven will now grant a 15% reduction to melee damage taken, and will heal you for 5% of your total possible health for every 3 seconds of its duration. The area of effect healing has not been altered and will act as an additional ability.

Short Bow

The Short Bow is a highly mobile weapon, but some of its skills long cooldowns, detracting from the experience of using it despite its win rate of 49.84% (ranked ninth). We want the Short Bow to be able to better combo skills and basic attacks to improve its 5.8% usage rate (ranked eighth out of all weapons), so cooldowns for four weapon skills will be reduced.

Seasonal Runes

To increase the diversity of picked runes and balance their power, we are improving lesser-picked runes (those under 10%) and mitigating the power of those with a pick rate above 60%. This applies to both common and weapon runes. For further details about which runes will be affected, please check the patch notes.
Future Changes
Right now, heavy shield infantry units are at a disjointed position in battles. They can neither take nor dish out enough damage to be truly effective, making it difficult to utilise them well. We have started to look at how to change units in this category, but it will require a bit of extra time to conduct power and stability tests. We are aiming to implement improvements to the Imperial Spear Guards by January 27 but may need additional time. Keep an eye on patch notes for more up to date information.

For detailed information on all the changes in this article, please check the latest patch notes.
