Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
A stubby little sword may not seem like the ideal frontline weapon, but, combined with a versatile round shield, in the hands of a committed brawler it’s almost without equal. Of course, it lacks the reach and heft of heavier weapons, but it’s a class that’s able to keep going until the job is done, and is able to operate almost as a one-person army thanks to the wearer’s heavy armour

Attributes

Shortsword and Shield is one of the few weapon classes where you could assign Attributes almost at random and not be too adversely affected by the consequences.

Like the Longsword, for example, you could maximise your tanking stats by favouring Armour and Toughness, although probably the former ahead of the latter, since you lack the ability to regain health from any of your skills.

Probably the most popular route for most tiny sword aficionados is to go all-in on Strength, as it’s the attribute that boosts both Slashing and Blunt damage - the two areas in which the class excels. Agility, which boosts armour penetration for the same damage types, can also be beneficial. The truth is that you don’t want to spread those points too thinly, so either go damage, go tank, or go home!

Weapon Skills

Unlike the longsword warrior probing from behind their heater shield, the Shortsword class is able to deliver a blur of furious slashing attacks, all while linking together a series of bruising shield skill strikes. It doesn’t have the most versatile set of skills, but they all deliver blunt damage pretty effectively

Shield Bash: The most damaging Shortsword weapon skill outside of the Ultimates, and one that at Rank III adds Slashing damage to the mix.

Kick: This one ticks all the boxes: Damaging, looks cool, and includes a handy debuff.

Ironsides: Delivers a decent amount of Blunt damage, but what makes this skill is the increase in your defensive stats and the removal of Daze and Confused effects.

Shielded Charge: A trio of shield attacks that can build into a veritable blunt-barrage, knocking your target down in the process.

Barricade: Guess what? Yep, another shield attack. This one does less damage, but reduces enemy blocks and attack power.

Throw Shield: Not the most potent attack ability in the Shortsword arsenal, but surely one of the coolest as it lets you use your shield as a frisbee. Best of all, it always comes back!

Ultimate Skills

Your choice of Ultimate Skill will depend on whether you favour the delivery of Blunt or Slashing damage.

Thunderstruck: If you want to make a good first impression, you could do a lot worse than opening with this ultimate shield bash. It starts with a forward leap, delivers a Blunt pounding and should end with your enemy flying through the air. Great versus rigid unit formations.

Centurion’s Battle Drill: Not the most focused of attacks, but if you want to wade into the enemy with all your proverbial guns blazing, this whirling Slash attack will leave enemies reeling in your wake.

Armour

Created especially to benefit Shortsword men and women is the Officer’s armour set, which with two items equipped reduces Shield Bash cooldown, and with four increases the duration of the Ironsides. Alternatively, the Guardsman’s armour set offers a tempting health boost with two items equipped and gives an all-round defence boost with four items equipped. Some have been known to mix the two sets to get the benefits of both.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
It’s tempting to think of the lightly-armoured bow-wielding hero as the game’s resident sniper. However, while the weapon does offer range and can deliver impressive amounts of headshot damage (if aimed correctly), it is not a class that is well-suited to clandestine behind-the-lines solo runs. What the Bow is well suited to be is supporting an attack from just behind the front line, using a combination of terrain and defensive units to maintain a position that allows it to deliver high damage without being overrun. Similarly, in defence, the toxophilite hero should be deployed in a position that delivers maximum firepower for minimum risk, using the advantage of high ground whenever possible to help your team maintain or advance its position.

Attributes

If you plan to fully specialise in any form of Bow, it’s not worth putting many attribute points into Armour or Toughness. Bows limit characters to light armour, which means you’re not going to last long in any melee encounters. Far better and much more skilful to try and wriggle your way free of an assault to live to fight another day.

Most Bow users would urge you to put the majority - if not all - of your Attribute points into Agility, primarily because the weapon deals Piercing Damage, which is maximised by having a high Agility attribute. While some might suggest investing in Strength to make you more effective against heavier armour, the Bow should really be used against lighter units and heroes.

Weapon Skills

In order to make your shots more effective, it may be necessary to charge them. The longer you hold down the fire button, the stronger the shot will be and the straighter the trajectory of the arrow - at a cost to your hero’s Stamina. All shots being equal, you will deliver more damage and/or enjoy greater armour penetration with a fully-charged Bow shot.

  • Flaming Arrow: A single shot that deals significant piercing damage as well as unblockable fire damage. Also useful for knocking evasive or incoming enemy heroes from their mounts.

  • Rain of Arrow: An essential skill that unleashes a volley of 6-12 arrows that when dispersed can tear through an enemy unit. Even better when used point-blank against a downed hero!.

  • Bodkin-Tipped: A good opening shot that deals high piercing damage, but that also reduces the target's defensive capabilities, making it a great skill to use on enemy heroes before your teammates close in on them.

  • Marksman: For the duration of this ability non-charged shots are treated as fully-charged shots, so you can save your Stamina for more potentially damaging shots and abilities.

  • Sharp Exit: One of two “get the hell outta there” skills. Effects a backwards leap that removes Daze.

  • Light-Footed: Not as great a lunge as Sharp Exit, but can be in any direction and adds a movement speed increase for a short period of time.
Ultimate Skills

Equally as effective in similar situations, which Ultimate Skill you go for may just come down to how well you can steady yourself before unleashing it.

  • Exploding Arrow: Essentially a long-range grenade that delivers high piercing damage within a concentrated area and delivers knockdowns that your team can quickly take advantage of.

  • Lightning Bolt: A shot so powerful it can pass through up to five targets, delivering vast amounts of damage as it does so. Requires a steady aim and a full charge to be as its most effective.
Armour

The Bow requires users to be agile and have a full range of movement to be able to aim and nock a new arrow quickly. This limits them to Light Armour, probably the most suitable of which is the Rogue’s Armour set. With two items equipped, you can enjoy a boost to Piercing Damage and Piercing Armour Penetration. With four items, you can make the most of an increase in the value of your critical hits, making your successful shots considerably more damaging.

Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
International Workers’ Day, or Labor Day, is traditionally observed as a holiday on May 1 in many countries where the collective achievement of the labour movement is celebrated - namely the enshrinement of the eight-hour working day / five-day working week.

Naturally, we like to join in on these occasions, but since the perpetual suffering of the oppressed masses is a necessary part of the fun in Conqueror's Blade, we could hardly insist that all units take the weekend off. So, instead, we’ve made it so they don’t have to work as hard to earn the usual XP wage. This means that for every matchmaking battle between now and the end of May 3, your units will earn a massive 50% boost to Unit XP and will not endure Unit Kit losses. Don’t work them too hard, mind, lest they rise up.

  • Starts: April 29, 09:00 server time

  • Ends: May 3, 23:59 server time

  • Boost: 50%+ to Unit XP
This boost does not apply to the ruling class. No XP boost for Heroes on this occasion, sorry!
