Conqueror's Blade - Kaeden
Early muskets were an anomaly on the medieval battlefield, often as much a danger to their own side as the enemy. The unwitting Musketeer in Conqueror’s Blade, while highly unlikely to blow their own face-off, can be just as much of a liability.

The Musket, thanks to its Skills, is a versatile choice of weapon. But it is not one that can operate effectively alone due to its slow reload and the fact it’s often most effective against heavily-armoured targets and ranged units that will make short work of it if they come within striking distance.

Being a class that doesn’t quite fit the standard combat archetypes, it can be easy to find yourself out of position, isolated and quickly eliminated. Finding your place on the battlefield can take some getting used to, but is worth persisting with as the Musket can be one of the most satisfying weapons to master.

Attributes

There are two schools of thought when it comes to assigning Attribute points to maximise Musket effectiveness. One suggests focusing on Strength to maximise Blunt Damage and employ “grenadier” Skills as your main attack. The other is to concentrate on Agility to be able to bring the greatest amount of Piercing damage to bear, which is best served by favouring the shooting skills.

Armour and Toughness should be less of a consideration, although with Musketeers being a favourite target of Dual Blades, a few extra points of the latter could make all the difference between slaughter and survival.

Weapon Skills

Will you favour bombs, bullets, or a combination of both?

  • Scatter Shot: Fires a number of shots across a wide arc, dealing dispersed Piercing damage against a number of targets, or concentrated damage against one bearing down on you.

  • Fine Gunpowder: Put the good stuff into your gun and enjoy reduced reload times and increased damage for a few precious seconds.

  • Close Combat: Use the butt of your weapon to deal Blunt Damage and knock your enemy to the ground. Deals good damage, but hard to land correctly.

  • Skirmisher: If you need to get out of combat quickly, this backwards leap should put enough distance between you and your assailant that you can run away or steady your aim.

  • Liquid Fire: A deadly firebomb that deals Blunt and Fire damage across a wide area, which is especially liable to impact the morale of any units caught in the flames.

  • Deadly Caltrops: The Conqueror’s Blade equivalent of leaving Lego on the floor for adults to step on, slowing them by 50% for a few seconds and (at Rank III), causing some bleeding.

Ultimate Skills

Most Musketeers favour the “big bada boom” to the “dakka dakka”, but as with your mainline Skills, your Ultimate choice will come down to the type of damage you’re best set up to deliver.

  • Five Rounds Rapid: Does what it says on the tin, dealing significant Piercing damage if all five rapid-fire shots hit their intended target.

  • Blackpowder Grenade: An especially powerful explosive that delivers a massive amount of Blunt damage to a significant area and is liable to knockdown troops caught in the blast.

Armour

The curiously-named Swordbearer’s armour set specifically benefits the Musketeer, as it offers a Fine Gunpowder damage increase with two items and a massive Liquid Fire damage boost when four items are worn. However, many Musketeers will eschew those benefits, preferring instead to wear a lighter armour set like the Rogue’s, which increase damage and critical attack values, which in some circumstances are more beneficial - at a cost of being less able to fend off attacks.

Used to patch up units, acquire resources, and improve siege capabilities, Bronze is something you can never have too much of in Conqueror’s Blade. You can often have too little though, which we’re here to help with over the new few days!

You can now earn a 15% bonus to all Bronze income from matchmaking battles until 23:59 server time on April 26. So, if you need to invest in new unit kits, or just need to increase your savings ahead of a new stage, this weekend might be a good time to get some battles in!

See you on the battlefield!
Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik

Hollywood has much to answer for in casting the longsword as the main weapon of the medieval brawler, when in reality, it was typically employed as a sidearm to grasp for after a spear or polearm was lost or broken. In that context, the Longsword’s obvious pairing with a heater shield and heavy armour should give you a good idea about the strengths and weaknesses of this weapon class: it is a tank, not a destroyer. Not just any tank either, but an effective battlefield support unit thanks to its unrivalled healing abilities.

Attributes

The Longsword and Shield should always be seen as two weapons rather than one, allowing the wielder to deliver significant amounts of Slashing and Blunt damage. In addition, it is a weapon class that can derive huge benefits from increased health and armour, making it sometimes a difficult decision as to where to invest the bulk of your Attribute points.

While some would advocate maximising damage output, the Longsword is not really a weapon to deliver the killing blow. Far better instead to increase your chances of surviving an attack, either by pouring those points into Armour or Toughness, or indeed both. Consider however that the higher your base Health, the more Health you can recover when you use your signature ability.

Weapon Skills

Versatile skills for a versatile class, but unless you build them around Mercy of Heaven, you perhaps need to question why you’ve chosen to specialise in a Longsword in the first place.
  • With Valour:A good all-purpose attack that builds into a flurry of Slashing strikes, topped off with a denigrating kick.
  • Paladin:Not the most devastating attack, even for a Longsword, but the six-second movement penalty applied to your target can make all the difference.
  • Mercy of Heaven:The Longsword’s most essential and unique ability can restore more than 10% Health and also (at Rank III) return 10% Health to any allies within a certain radius.
  • Shield Bash: The Blunt damage is a bonus on what this skill really helps out with, which is removing Daze and potentially stunning enemies.
  • Martial Prowess: A seemingly desperate area attack that restores a small portion of Health. Possibly best used to get out of a hopeless situation.
  • Knightly Vows:Increases your speed and that of nearby allies, for times when you need to effect a devastating counter-attack before the enemy knows what’s happened.

Ultimate Skills

One skill characterises the Longsword’s shield, the other its versatility. Whether you favour one over the other will depend on whether you see versatility as a boon or a weakness.
  • Clash of Shields: The ultimate shield bash, which sees you charging like a steam train and barging anyone in your way with Blunt damage.
  • Sally Forth:Has a relatively short cooldown time compared to most Ultimate Abilities and delivers all three damage types in a series of blows - none of which are devastating in themselves, but it’s up there as a skill that fits all.
Armour

Created especially to benefit Longsword players is the Imperial Knight’s armour set, which with two items equipped reduces Knightly Vows’ cooldown, and with four increases the restorative effects of the Mercy of Heaven ability. Alternatively, the Guardsman’s armour set offers a tempting health boost with two items equipped and gives an all-round defence boost with four items equipped. Some have been known to mix the two sets to get the benefits of both.

The long-awaited shieldmaidens have arrived in Conqueror's Blade, let's see what they can do in battle!

We are also live on Twitch.
Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik

As well as being the first female unit to charge onto the Conqueror’s Blade battlefield, the Norse-inspired Shieldmaidens are also among the most versatile. Available to unlock now as part of Season VII: Wolves of Ragnarok, they're able to switch between swords and spear, making the unit equally adept in defensive and attacking roles. They can deliver equally high amounts of all three types of damage, leaving very few enemies a unit of Shieldmaidens shouldn’t be able to make short work of. If you can spare the Leadership and assemble an effective warband around them, these ladies will not let you down.

Unlocking

You will be able to command a Shieldmaiden unit temporarily after completing just one series of Season VII unit challenges. The unit will become permanently yours after finishing a fourth stage (along with any XP the unit may have earned along the way). Complete Stages 6 and 8 to secure a defense- and attack-enhancing Doctrine respectively.

Gameplay

It’s often true that a jack-of-all-trades is a master of none, but the Shieldmaidens challenge that assumption so long as the unit is utilised correctly. When taking up defensive positions, make sure spears are readied so as to increase the unit’s defensive attributes. Use the Shield Wall Formation and Cover Commander and Guardian Unit Orders to protect your hero and other units respectively. When preparing to attack, switch to swords and get ready to unleash Freyja’s Charge, which can be devastating if followed up with a Triple Strike.

Progression

Shieldmaidens can invest in Veterancy Points across two branches. The top branch generally works to increase the unit’s defensive attributes, with the final bonus increasing Blunt Armour Penetration while spears are equipped. The lower branch favours the sword, increasing (among other attributes) Slashing damage and sword-based armour penetration

Just the facts: Shieldmaidens (5-star, melee)
