Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik

As well as being at the geographical heart of Conqueror’s Blade, the Conqueror’s City is also its most prized possession, forever immortalising those that secure it. However, players that seek once again to command its ancient walls at the end of Season III should note that there have been a few minor alterations; not only to the city itself but to the formidable ring of gate towns that guard its entrance. Although many of the changes are minor, they amount to a rebalancing that we hope will make battles more dynamic and help ensure that Season III’s climax will live long in the memory. For example, the layout has been tweaked to offer more routes in and around the city, and the attackers will be able to make use of pre-positioned siege equipment, rather than always having to bring their own. If destroyed during the battle, these will respawn after a short period.

Storming the gates

The gate fiefs (Gate of Order, Gate of Glory, Gate of Earth and Gate of Heaven) are four identical maps that act as locks around the Conqueror’s City, in that to be able to assault the city, you must first control one or more gates. They are 15v15 siege maps with the bases separated by a capture point (X) and four resupply zones.

The wide outer wall is dominated by a large gatehouse that protects the main capture point on the main battlements above the gate. When starting their assault the attackers can make use of two ranks of siege emplacements to support their initial advance, with three siege ladder emplacements either side of the gatehouse.

The defender’s base is located in a small wooden stockade nestled at the base of the Conqueror’s City. It can be assaulted via its main gate, or via side entrances on either flank. Despite the limited entry points, the area is susceptible to artillery attack due to being very open and easily cut off from its resupply points.

Conquering the city

With one or more gates secured, the attackers are soon able to move through the residential area that services the Conqueror’s City. The map is once again a 15v15 siege; with the two bases again separated by a single capture point (X). However, with two walls to breach and six resupply zones, it is a much more challenging map that the preceding gate fiefs.

The outer wall of the Conqueror’s City can be breached via the overpass (by destroying the gate), or by deploying up to three Grapnel Launchers to extend walkways toward the turreted capture point. As well as four ladder emplacements leading up to point X, there is a resupply zone to its right, which both sides may want to make use of to starve the other of the reinforcement options it gives.

The attackers have numerous options when assaulting the defence base, with the ability to attack the right flank via ladders, or route to the left to cut off a resupply point and make use of an arch leading around the back of the inner courtyard. With three resupply areas around the base, the defenders are not short of defensive options and should be able to mount an effective last-ditch counter-attack should the need arise. Securing the resupply points, therefore, will be central to securing the city.

As well as the renovation work that’s been made to the city, there have been some structural changes to decide which houses and alliances are eligible to fight for it. We’ll be detailing those in a future article - stay tuned!
Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik

If you enjoyed the time-limited "Storming the Great Wall" event, The Great Wall will be instantly familiar. It takes the recent PvE classic and returns it for PvP Siege battles, allowing you to endlessly enjoy the conflict from both sides. And, as the name suggests, it’s as unique a fortification as can be found anywhere in Conqueror’s Blade!

HISTORY

Far beyond the means of any single empire or age, the Great Wall is a collection of dozens of fortresses, new and old, that snake across the lands, linked by raised roadways, earthworks and imposing walls that have been built over many hundreds of years. Acting as a defensive bulwark against barbarian invaders as well as a border wall to protect the numerous trade routes that crisscross the land, the Great Wall has only in the last century been considered a single entity. Of course, that hasn’t stopped fractious warlords bickering over the parts of it they consider theirs.

SCOUTING REPORT

Inspired by its real-world namesake, The Great Wall is an iconic fortification like no other in Conqueror’s Blade. Rather than protecting a town, its battlements snake across the map, providing the layout for a distinctive and fast-paced siege with multiple routes to victory.

The main point of defence is the extensive gatehouse and the rear courtyard around control point A, which is well-protected and flanked by defensive guns. With no siege towers, the attacking team is limited to using ladders, trying a direct attack on the main gate, or bringing down a weak section of wall.

Once point A is taken, the attackers can then turn east and run the full route of the wall via point B as it leads up to the top of the map - securing a deadly line of defensive watchtowers along the way, or, alternatively, turn west and attack a second gatehouse at point C that guards the western approach.

The final capture point sits within a fortification at the highest point of the map. Though not as defensible as other capture points, the high walls and nearby resupply zone should ensure a climactic end to any battle - and a glorious view of the battlefield below for the eventual victor.

PLAN OF ATTACK

  • In front of the weak section of the outer wall are two mortars. Use them to collapse the battlements to ensure you have a quick route to assault the gatehouse and the resupply area to the west.
  • If you are attacking the main gate, do so from either side using siege ladders. The gate itself is well defended with firepots and close-range anti-personal artillery, which means that without the protection of siege towers, a frontal assault could be extremely costly.
  • Once you have troops on the wall (and point A is under your control), you can follow the wall directly up to point B. If you are met with resistance, or you find yourself targeted by units on the point B watchtower, outflank your opponent by using the ladders that bring you up behind the tower.
  • As well as the ladders than can be used to assault point C, mounted warlords can be used to scale the rocky area close to the westernmost resupply area. (Don’t expect your troops to be able to follow you though!)
  • The final control point at the top of the map is not as well protected as the others, but the defence does have a great height advantage and the use of a defensible resupply area. It may be an idea to try to assault the area from the sides; to blunt the opponent’s counter-attacking efforts.

DEFENSIVE MEASURES

  • The defending team has the height advantage pretty much from start to finish, so use it to your advantage - sections of the wall are easily lost, but if you can hold the towers, you will win the day!
  • Holding the gatehouse and protecting point A is the key to the whole map. Although the resupply points are quite far away and inevitably soon lost, if you manage to pack your units in a tight and effective defence, it might delay the attacking team enough that it will run the clock down to your advantage.
  • The wall between B and C is likely to be a contested area of the battlefield, regardless of which of the two capture points the attacking team favours. Try not to underestimate its importance.
  • When it comes to defending the final control point, a combination of pouring arrows into the centre courtyard from above and counterattacking using fast-moving or shield-breaking units might be more beneficial than trying to keep the circle blue at all costs. As always - use that height advantage!

Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik

If you’ve had the fortitude to scroll to end of some of Conqueror’s Blade’s lengthier Patch Note articles, you may have occasionally come across one of Evo Loz Gaming’s videos. He’s been delivering the latest changes to his chosen games in a personable and understanding way for more than two years, but since planting his flag in Conqueror’s Blade territory his has become something of a vital public service - a semi-official way for players to get to the fundamentals of what’s just changed without them having to study the article line by line.

“I started my channel around two and a half years ago” says Evo. “I have always loved history and strategy games and have been producing videos around them, but then about a year ago I found Conqueror’s Blade.” This was at a time when he was looking to charge into a new MMO and was recommended the game by a friend in the closed beta. “I immediately loved the siege battles, dynamic combat and the range of stuff to do” he says, “I’ve been making videos ever since!”

“Anyone who has watched my videos for a while will know I’m a huge Poleaxe fan. With its good damage, heavy armour and badass look it really makes it the perfect fit.”

One of Evo’s first Conqueror’s Blade videos from last year was a critique of the Musket player class, which he questioned at the time to be the worst in the game. However, through a combination of his own open-mindedness and chirpy demeanour, he has been happy to revise his views when others have countered them or as the game has evolved to make them obsolete. Aside from his deep and abiding knowledge, it’s his capacity to not be too peremptory or overbearing that probably explains much of his appeal.

“It’s great when you can help teach a new player a tip or technique to help them progress further or faster than they otherwise would,” he says. “When I started my real end goal was to reach 1,000 subscribers and grow a small community, which I still find quite crazy to have passed!”

Another landmark has been the success of his in-game house on the EU West 1 server, which, being associated with his channel made the rag-tag group something of a target. “It was a tough start going up against some much bigger houses, but after many weeks of tough Territory Wars, we finally managed to capture and hold a village”. Although HouseEvo has now Merged with MoonManor and serves under Cresentine, it’s early achievements are among Evo’s most treasured in-game moments. “It was truly awesome to have ourselves on the map and be the liege of a village.”

As for his channel, Evo has much to be proud of. Siege battles and his beginner’s guide are personal favourites, and he’s continually revising and expanding his output: “Normally I’ll have a bit of a plan of what I would like to achieve that evening, such as level a certain unit, record a video intro section or simply edit some footage together. Some days end up more successful than others but it’s almost always fun… unless I get hit by a ballista!” Or there’s an unexpectedly massive update to summarise and comment on.

If you would like to support a Conqueror’s Blade Content Creator, you may like to consider purchasing a creator pack from the MY.GAMES Market. You can benefit Evo’s efforts directly by using the influencer code ‘evo' at checkout.

Conqueror's Blade - Sapozhnik
Given how creative the Conqueror’s Blade community is, we thought it would be a good idea to let you guys create your own loading screens to help us celebrate the first anniversary of Conqueror’s Blade.

Loading screens aren’t usually something to be celebrated as they represent the wait between gameplay sessions - and the shorter they stay on screen the better - but a good loading screen will give players a flavour of what’s to come when the game cuts to the action. Some loading screens can become as iconic as other parts of the game.

Which is where you come in. What we’re hoping to see are three winning entries that have the potential to be as good - if not better - than the current crop of loading screens. Booming Games will work with the three entrants to ensure their work fits with the other art in the game.

The winning loading screens will be only displayed ahead of Deathmatch battles, so please theme your ideas around unit-free arena encounters. As well as their work being displayed for all to see, winners will also receive 2300 Sovereigns.

RULES OF ENTRY
  • Entries should be submitted via the Anniversary Contest Discord channel. Please include your character name and server alongside your submission. (We may ask for further evidence to prove that your entry was created by you.)
  • Entries must be received before June 25th, 2020 at 23:59 CEST (2:59pm PDT).
  • Only 1920x1080 .jpg and .png image file formats will be accepted.
  • There should be no blood, skeletons, or dead bodies depicted in entries.
  • There should be no signature added to the artwork - these can obstruct game elements and will be added by our team when necessary.
  • Entries cannot contain any material that violates the MY.GAMES Terms of Service.
  • Your entry cannot feature any copyrighted or third-party material. Only entries featuring original artwork inspired by Conqueror’s Blade will be considered.
  • The best entries will be determined by Booming Games and the Conqueror’s Blade team and winners will be announced on the Conqueror’s Blade website after the contest has ended.
  • Winning entries will only be added to the game at the discretion of Booming Games, assuming entries fully adhere to quality standards.
  • You agree that your entry can be used by Booming Games, My.com and MY.GAMES for promotional purposes (for example, for publication on our official social channels or websites) for all versions of Conqueror’s Blade across all territories in perpetuity.
  • Entrants found to violate the Terms of Service or break competition rules are subject to disqualification up to and beyond the conclusion of the competition.

Good luck!
