One of the headline additions of the Season III: Soldiers of Fortune update is the Maul, the first new hero class to be added to Conqueror’s Blade since it was in pre-beta. With its limited manoeuvrability (it can’t side roll) offset by a devastating gavel, it’s a warlord that is sure to make an immediate and lasting impression when it smashes its way into the game on April 21st.
However, in keeping with new units introduced as part of previous seasons, the Maul won’t be immediately accessible. To unlock the ground-pounding new class, your characters will first have to earn enough Glory to reach Nobility Tier 25, which by our calculations should take no more than a few hours. There will, of course, be a Season III Battle Pass to aid your Seasonal progression, but it won’t be a requirement to unlock the Maul.
Once you have access to the Maul, you will be able to unlock its class-specific skills by working through a series of tasks, which, similar to Unit Challenges, can be completed through normal gameplay or by paying a small amount of Silver. In addition to unlocking skills, you’ll be able to access Schematics for Maul-specific weapons and armour as you progress through the Nobility Tiers (again, with or without a Battle Pass).
To help you plan for your imminent advancement, we’ve listed some of the more interesting Maul Skills below:
Mighty Mjölnir The Maul isn’t known for its speed, but when he absolutely has to bring his weapon into range, this skill will get him there when it matters! Can also be followed up with a shoulder barge and combo skills.
Up from Hel A devastating overhead swing that can be chained up to four times, at an increased cost to Stamina and movement speed. A fourth strike cannot be blocked.
Forge of War Of all the area-of-effect weapons that can be aimed at the floor, the Maul’s is the most powerful, sending enemy units into the air and causing extensive blunt force damage that cannot be blocked.
Strike & Grapple A spectacular attack that when successfully used on enemy heroes will see them picked up, thrown over the shoulder, charged forward and then tossed to the ground before their limp body is given a final pounding.
25/05/20 UPDATE: A few days ahead of schedule, the final Season III unit, Pavise Crossbowmen (tier 5), will be available to unlock from May 26 - from midnight server time!
As was the case for Season II, the new units that will be available during the course of Season III will need to be unlocked. For the Wrath of the Nomads units, this was achieved by completing weekly challenges, which scaled up as higher-tier units were introduced. The release of Season’s III units will follow a similar pattern, with four Seasonal units unlocked via Unit Challenges, with the Tier-5 Pavise Crossbowmen also able to be accessed with Honour points.
Each Unit Challenge stage will require a number of tasks to be completed, 6 out of 8 for Tier-3, 8 out of 10 for Tier-4 and 10 out of 12 for Tier-5. The Season III schedule is currently planned to last 10 weeks.
In addition to the four Seasonal units, Season III will introduce a new Mercenary unit, the Martellatori, which will be available from the Mercenary panel of the Unit interface for 4,900 Sovereigns or 700k Silver.
Units:
Prerequisite:
Condottieri Guards (Tier 3)
● Complete 2x Tier-3 Unit Challenge stages
Martellatori(Mercenary)
● 4,900 Sovereigns / 700,000 Silver
All Season II units
● 8 challenges need to be completed per stage (rather than 6), otherwise as per Season II
● Or, unlock with 15,000 Honour + prerequisite Unit Tree nodes
(*Dates are subject to change)
The return of Season II Unit Challenges
For those that didn’t manage to unlock all of the previous season’s units, the requisite Season II Unit Challenges will also be accessible for the duration of the new season. You can access them from a drop-down box in the top-left of the Unit Challenge screen of the Seasons interface (F5). Note that, while similar prerequisites will apply to unlock them, there will be no wait for higher tier units to become available. Also be aware that the additional rewards that were specific to Season II for unlocking units - Fangs and cosmetics - will not be issued, nor will it be possible to acquire Season II cosmetics from the Seasonal Store.
It’s important to note that you can only focus on one set of Unit Challenges at a time. If you wish to switch from completing Season III Unit Challenges to Season II’s, it will cost 1,000 Silver and there is a time penalty to switching back (which can be offset by Silver), so consider carefully when might be the best time to focus on the units you need. If and when you do switch, your progress will be saved for when you return.
New Challenges
As well as the return of unit Unlock Challenges, new to Season III are Experience Challenges and Growth Challenges. Together they comprise all the Unit Challenge stages, but there are differences among them in terms of the rewards you’ll receive.
Completing Experience Challenges (the first stage) offers a way to temporarily unlock and progress Season III units before they are permanently acquired through Unlock Challenges. All Unit XP and Veterency gained will be retained, but only if the unit is permanently unlocked before Season III ends (via stages two, three and four - depending on the unit tier).
Once you’ve unlocked your new Season III units, you can start advancing them by undertaking Growth Challenges. Unlike other seasonal unit challenges, Growth Challenges are specific to each unit and reward completion with Epic Doctrines and other useful items that are specific to that unit. For tier-5 units, there are two stages to work through.
● Condottieri Guards Unit Challenges ● Fortebraccio Pikemen Unit Challenges ● 2x Falconetti Gunners Unit Challenge stages ● 2x Pavise Crossbowmen Unit Challenge stages
Acquire Epic Doctrines for Season III units
If during the course of Season III you are finding it difficult to stay ahead of Unit Challenges, individual tasks can be completed for 100 Sovereigns, which was a feature of the previous season. Regardless of how you intend to unlock and advance your units, we hope you enjoy doing so - good luck!
Keep an eye out for future articles detailing other features and content coming as part of Season III: Soldiers of Fortune, due April 21st.

With the start of Season III less than a week away, it’s time to allow members of the Content Creation Program access to the Soldiers of Fortune update via the Conqueror’s Blade test sever.
The preview event, scheduled for Thursday, April 16, from 18:00 CEST (9am PST), will offer a practical look at what’s new and what will be changing ahead of the new season’s launch on April 21st, with all those taking part providing a live account of their experience via their associated channels. If you’re eager to see the Maul in action, or to check out the details on Season III’s new units, be sure to join one of the following streams:
There are essentially two types of craftable items in Conqueror’s Blade. First, there are those that directly benefit your hero; not just personal weapons and armour, but also mount and siege equipment. Then there are weapons, armour and horses for your troops, which are created in the form of Unit Kits. Each requires the help of a specific NPC, which are to be found in the thoroughfares of busy fiefs, eager to do your bidding.
As well as the right NPC, to craft any item you also need some currency (to pay them), and the required amount of resource or material to build what you need in volume you need. Raw resources can be found throughout the game’s open world, but will need to be processed into craftable Materials before they can be forged into something useful. Other craftable items will require supplies that are issued as rewards for quests or from battle, or that can be salvaged from hero items you no longer need. If time is short or some items are in limited supply locally, there is always the Market or a nearby Smuggler.
Basic Resources
There are eight basic resource types (Food, Horses, Copper, Cotton, Hides, Iron, Stone and Timber) to be found in the open world. With the exception of Food and Horses, these can be further categorised by quality, from Common (represented by white text), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue) to Epic (purple).
Exotic Materials
In the process of collecting basic resources - which are available in across all regions - there is a chance that you could also pick up a small number of Exotic Resource units - some of which are specific to Rare and Epic-level resource sites in specific regions. These are necessary for creating Rare and Epic Materials:
Materials
Once you’ve collected the required resource units from the open world (or from the Resource Market), these can be taken to a Refinery Overseer and transformed into Materials, which are the processed units necessary for crafting.
Materials are categorised in the same way as Resources, by type and quality. To create an uncommon Material, only common or uncommon resources are necessary, with less required if they are of a higher quality. For example, to end up with a unit of Seasoned Wood (uncommon), you would need more Pine (common) than you would Cedar (epic). However, to create a higher quality of wood, Exotic resources are necessary, such as Yew.
** Refinery Overseers in the western regions (Ostaria, Ungverija) will craft Composite Wood, while those in the eastern regions (Maoyang, Liangyun) will craft Varnished Wood.
Unit Kits
In order to maintain a unit at full strength it needs equipment. Collectively, a fighter’s weapon and armour is called a Unit Kit, for which one is required per fighter. Unfortunately, when a fighter dies in battle, their Unit Kit disappears with them, so you need to equip each new conscript with a new one before it can join a battle. For basic Militia-type units, these can be replenished easily with Bronze after each battle, but Unit Kit replacements will soon put a drain on your income and as you start to reinforce more advanced units that require better quality equipment, you’ll find crafting Unit Kits as the only sustainable option.
Unit Kits require Materials to create, ranging from Raw Iron and Seasoned or Varnished Wood for the basic Militiaman’s Kit, to Epic-quality Copper, Iron and Leather for the Vassal Longbowman’s Kit. The only part of a unit’s equipment that has to be sourced separately are the horses for cavalry units, which must be acquired from Stables in the open world (or from the Market). Be aware that like some Exotic resources, some horse breeds are region-specific.
Hero Equipment
Unlike units, which, in effect, require mass produced weapons and armour, a hero’s equipment is more refined. To reflect this it’s crafted with the assistance of a Smith and requires a different set of Materials than those that are sourced in large volumes from resource locations in the open world. These so-called Hero or Item Materials are more engineered than for Unit Kits and can be acquired as rewards, either from finding loot stashes in the open world, from completing some quests (Weekly, Fief, Daily Sign In, etc) or as part of the spoils of war from events and seasonal campaigns. For level 30 items, a Schematic - a kind of blueprint - will also be required.
In addition to crafting, Smiths can also be approached to salvage Hero Materials from personal weapons and armour you no longer need, which costs 100 Bronze per item.
Siege Weapons
Despite being classified as hero items - on the basis that they are deployed by and used directly by players rather than indirectly by their units - siege weapons are built using the same Materials as are used in Unit Kits; typically wood, copper, iron, stone, hides and fabric. Each artillery piece is forged individually by the Artillery Craftsman, with Optimal-grade items costing 1000 Silver.
Hopefully, this guide has given you a good grounding about resource and material gathering and the crafting of Unit Kits and hero items. As the crafting system evolves (such as will as part of Season III: Soldiers of Fortune), we hope to keep this guide up to date to ensure it contains everything you need to know. If you find it lacking, please don’t hesitate to let us know via the usual community channels.
We received so many amazing entries in our quest to find a name for one of Season III’s new units that we’ve had to combine the best of them.
The unit, one of five currently being readied for deployment, is unique in its ability to utilise what will soon be the heaviest infantry weapons ever seen on a Conqueror’s Blade battlefield. Lightly armoured but devastatingly-dressed, we present the unit of Sicanian warriors that henceforth will be known as…. Falconetti Gunners!
Here is the in-game text that will accompany the unit throughout its many campaigns:
"Also known as 'fauconneau cannoneers', these are the fire support arm of every mercenary army in Sicania. These heavy gunners are renowned throughout the land as versatile and valuable troops. Their firepower comes at the cost of weak armour, so active protection of these soldiers is necessary.”
Thanks to all of you who posted your suggestions to our Facebook page, but especially to our three winners. “Ben Powell” and “Brian Jacob” respectively suggested Fauconneau Cannoneers and Falconetti Fusilli, both of which inspired the MY.GAMES Lore Masters to settle on Falconetti Gunners for the official unit name. We then included Fauconneau Cannoneers as part of the description “Deasthrom Gemstone Canto Rosa” came up for their Sicanian Gunners. All three winners will be receiving the very first detachments of the new unit as it becomes available as part of the Season III: Soldiers of Fortune update.
Some of the most intense battles of Season II’s climactic campaign were fought in and around the Conqueror’s City, but even though its gates are now shut and it’s battlements secured, that doesn’t mean that it should remain entirely off-limits. So, while we await a new round of seasonal hostilities, we thought we’d add it to the Siege battle roster. Those of us with no hope of ever fighting for the real thing can see what all the fuss is about, while those eager for Season III to get going can keep their swords sharp in the days ahead.
While Conqueror’s City features all the elements of a classic Siege battle, the map itself is little different from others in the roster. For both sides the initial frontline is very narrow, playing more like a classic assault-style map as forces try to bludgeon their way up the steep concourses to fight along the palatial battlements. As befitting its status, it’s a map that rewards teamwork, skill and determination rather than lone wolf-style opportunism, so be sure to have a plan if you later take your Siege experience into the coming season!

You can also rally your troops beneath the Promise of Spring Banner, symbolically emblazoned with a rabbit clutching wheat beneath a golden springtime sun.
The Easter Bunny Helm and Promise of Spring Banner are available in-game and from the MY.GAMES Market for a limited time. You can also claim one free Promise of Spring Banner from the MY.GAMES Market!
