On December 20th, at 12:00PM GMT / 4:00AM PDT, we will begin the release of version 0.10.1!

Update 0.10.1 begins our annual Christmas/New Years event, as well as some changes and improvements to the game. First, let's talk about this holiday event;

This year's Christmas/New Years event is going to be a little different from years past, you can now find two Christmas trees in the new city of Kamensk. Under these trees, you may even find some loot presents left for you, of course, if you aren’t careful, you may become the loot present yourself


We have also added new seasonal holiday skins for you to hunt down during this event, some of these skins are completely new, and others are improved skins from older weapon models.

Here is a list of weapons which have received either new or revised skins in this version:
  • Skar
  • VSD
  • AK-SM
  • AK-mod
  • AR4
  • NK417
  • PP-3000
Version 0.10.1 also comes with some other changes not related to the holiday event, most notably, a new game map! This version of the game map was actually created automatically using the in game terrain, as opposed to our artists. This means the world map is now a lot more detailed, down to the individual buildings and trees.


And finally, this version comes with many minor bug fixes and improvements, many related to the new city Kamensk. For example, there may now be more loot spawning in the large city, as there was a bug that could cause less loot to spawn than intended. We have also increased the amount of base building items that spawn in the large city. If you want to know all the details about this update, here are the patch notes:

New features:
  • Redesigned interactive map in the game
  • New Years and Christmas event: Added New Years spirit and new seasonal items in the game
Other changes and fixes:
  • Revised balance:
    • Weapons in the world (not from bots) now appear with at least 70% durability
    • Water bottles and flasks now spawn with at least one sip.
  • Fixed a bug that, in some cases, caused less loot to spawn than it should have.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the client to crash if the extended mag was moved from one weapon to another in the character's inventory
  • Fixed a bug causing the convoy case to not drop out of an outfit that was thrown on the ground
  • Fixed a bug causing the wolf's howl to be cut off.
  • The spawn of items needed for base building and crafting (axes, hammers, nails, sheet metal, etc.) has been increased in Kamensk.

On December 13th, at 4:00PM GMT / 8:00AM PDT, we will begin the release of version 0.10.0!

The release of version 0.10.0 to the live servers will require a base wipe. All bases will need to be deleted for the update to function correctly on release.
In update 0.10.0, we introduce the largest POI in Deadside so far; Kamensk. This huge city is filled with new interesting buildings, good loot, and even unique “urban bandit” AI which can be found at a new epic mission. With the introduction of this city, we now have the possibility for true urban PvP. There are sure to be snipers hiding in windows, and people watching every long street for an easy kill.


This update also comes with a large map expansion in the southwest, however, the vast majority of this map expansion is open fields and forests at the moment. We plan to populate this area with POIs in the future, as the artists have been completely focused on getting Kamensk finished and playable. So in the meantime, this expanded area will provide tons of building space for players, especially for those who prefer to be far away from any potential respawn points, improving their chances of a successful raid defense.

Outside of the new city, this update comes with a handful of useful changes and improvements, one being optimization of the game’s graphical content. This was done mainly to improve performance in Kamensk, as we haven’t had an area this densely populated with objects before. However, these improvements should be felt in all of the POIs across the map, and will hopefully improve performance for everyone across the board.

Version 0.10.0 also comes with a minor change to AI, which will make a major difference in the actual gameplay. In this version, enemy AI will no longer fire their weapons, while strafing side to side. This will make combat against our hostile bots feel much more fair, as they are now forced to play by the same gunplay rules as the player. No longer will you see a bot strafing sideways at full speed, somehow getting hits on you a couple hundred meters away with a Mosin.

Other changes and fixes:
  • Improved level design of the southern safe zone and Sosnovka area
  • The respawn beacon, tripwires, and C4 must now be placed in the hotbar slot to use (by the F key)
  • Added a requirement to set the base flag - the hammer must be in the in the character's inventory
  • Fixed the lack of reaction of roe deer and wolf to grenade and C4 explosions
  • Multiple fixes of graphical bugs and level design
  • Fixed an issue that caused the server list to not be displayed for some players.
SFX:
  • Added growl sounds for wolf in an idle state
  • Improved reload sounds for all weapons
  • Fixed a problem with the sound level inside the bunker
  • Fixed incorrect or missing SFX for interactions with physical materials
  • Improved the sound of sniper rifles firing

Today we begin public testing of version 0.10.0!

The main focus of this update is the highly anticipated map expansion in the southwest, which adds the largest city in Deadside so far, Kamensk. This city was so large that we needed to make some serious optimizations to the game overall, so that players will have optimal performance in these dense areas. These improvements will be felt all over the map, not just in Kamensk.

This map expansion is a two part process; first we added the large city, which is in this update, and in a future update, the rest of the expanded area outside of Kamensk will be populated with more structures and POIs. For now though, enjoy the new city, the art team worked very hard on it.

Outside of the expanded map, this update has a handful of changes, improvements, and bug fixes. More details on these features, and the complete patch notes, are at the bottom of this post.

Main Features:
  • Expansion of the map to the south-west

On Nov 28th at 08:00am PDT /15:00 GMT, Hotfix 0.9.0.2 will be deployed

This hotfix will include:
  • Fixed a problem that caused helmets and armor to not provide the proper protection
  • Fixed a bug that caused items to disappear when split into two stacks, while the inventory was completely full
  • Weapon reload was causing input issues if the weapon has been picked up with empty hands before

We have made the decision to provide 18 slots of safe zone storage for free, instead of 15. This should make the game a bit more fair to players who don't own the supporter pack.

The purpose of this hotfix is to fix an issue included in version 0.9.0, which caused any equipped weapon to be deleted when switched out with another weapon from an external inventory. After this hotfix, this issue should no longer be present.

Even though bugs like these tend to be part of the “early access experience”, we still try our best to put out the most polished product we reasonably can, even if that product is still ultimately unfinished. This issue was unexpected and snuck up on us, and we apologize again for any inconvenience this caused.

On November 21st, at 9:00AM GMT / 1:00AM PDT, we will begin the release of version 0.9.0!

During the patch deployment, servers may be temporarily unavailable. Game client update is required.
Update 0.9.0 is a regular update, which features the addition of Roe Deer, a new animal that roams the forests of Deadside. It also brings level design improvements, improvements to weapon models, and some other important fixes. Unfortunately, version 0.9.0 means the end of our seasonal Halloween event, with seasonal items no longer spawning in game. Any items you did collect during the event, you will be able to keep, as there will be no wipe with this update. So, let’s take a look into the features of this update!

Roe Deer


One of the main features of version 0.9.0, is another new large animal, Roe Deer! These small deer roam the forests of Deadside, and create another way for you to collect food for your character. Unlike duck hunting, which is restricted to only bodies of water, Roe Deer can be found all over the map. With this addition, you are no longer required to travel to a body of water or a town to find food, which we hope is a welcome change

Server Performance

We are aware that the performance of our servers has not been ideal recently, so, version 0.9.0 will contain a few adjustments to improve server performance. These changes are minor however, and while they definitely will improve server performance, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Please understand that improving server performance is a priority for us right now, and it takes time to correctly identify and fix issues in this area. We will keep you updated on this process in as time goes on

Map Design

Update 0.9.0 will come with some improvements to the already existing map, this includes a new industrial building and and construction crane in Beregovoy, a new shop building near the south safezone, new kitchen furniture in some buildings, road signs and barriers added to some roads, and finally, popular trees have been added into some settlements.


Our art team has been hard at work creating the map expansion in the southwest of the map, while also improving the already existing map at the same time. You are now beginning to see some of these new models and improvements, although there is still a lot more to come in the future

Improved Weapon Model


If you haven’t been following our recent updates, we are currently in the process of improving the existing weapon models in Deadside, and version 0.9.0 continues this process. There are improvements to the AR4 model, as well as some minor adjustments and improvements to various other models

Other Changes:
  • Now, when [ESC] is pressed in the Main Menu, the Player returns to the main menu.
  • Made the hit sounds on characters more distinct
  • Removed seasonal Halloween content from spawn pools
  • Added hints to the loading screen

Today we begin public testing of version 0.9.0! While this update isn’t huge, it does contain some important fixes, and it has some new features as well. Unfortunately, this update also brings an end to our Halloween event, it was fun while it lasted! Don’t worry though, any seasonal items you collected during the event will stay on your character or in storage.

On Oct Xth at 03:00am PDT /10:00 GMT, Hotfix 0.8.0.1 will be deployed

Over the weekend while playing the game with you all, our team discovered some temporary server performance issues. This hotfix will address these issues, and also include some tools that we can use to further investigate these problems.

In other server news, a handful of our official servers will be moved to new hardware to ensure that they continue running smoothly. No progress will be lost, however, the server IP will change. This means you will have to search for these servers again in the browser after the migration, instead of using “resume.”

The following servers are affected by the move:

  • Official US Central 400
  • Official US Central 401
  • Official US Central 402
  • Official US Central 407 FP only
  • Official US Central 406 FP only
  • Official US Central 403
  • Official US Central 404
  • Official US Central 405 PvE

The move will happen in the period from Oct 30, 2023 to Nov 3, 2023, with a downtime of a few minutes.

Hello Deadsiders!

On October 25th, at 9:00AM GMT / 2:00AM PDT, we will begin the release of version 0.8.0!

Update 0.8.0 brings back the seasonal content for Halloween, as well as some new features and changes. New features include Wolves, our first large animal in Deadside, and redesigned weapon models. We have also made some adjustments and improvements to other areas of the game, base building for example, is much cheaper than before.

For those unfamiliar with update 0.8.0, here are the full patch notes;

Wolves:
One of the main features of update 0.8.0, is the introduction of Wolves. These hostile animals patrol the map to ambush unsuspecting survivors. Anyone who is not prepared will be seriously injured, or worse. These Wolves will do a lot to make Deadside feel more dynamic and alive, with combat situations possible throughout more of the map.

One of the things that makes Deadside unique compared to other survival games, is how often players are forced to fire their weapons, usually to defend themselves from AI bandits. This makes PvP much more common compared to other games in the genre, because it's easier to track other players. With the introduction of wolves, this aspect of the game will be spread out to previously unpopulated areas of the map, where it wouldn’t make sense to have bandits wandering the area.



Redesigned Weapon Models:
Not too long ago, we were able to hire an artist who specializes in weapon model design, and this has given us the ability to begin remodeling some of our older weapon models, without hindering any other aspect of development. In update 0.8.0, you will begin to see some of their work, with redesigned models of the AK-mod, AK-SU, AK-SM, VSD, and Skar. These new models are much higher fidelity than our old ones, and they enable the team to make more visual changes to the models than we previously could. Here is the new AK-mod model in game;



Seasonal Halloween Items:
Version 0.8.0 will see the return of our seasonal Halloween items, this includes skull masks with glowing eyes, jack-o-lantern masks, bloody hockey masks that may coincidentally remind you of a certain Halloween movie, and lots of unique weapon skins with seasonal themes. Collect these items while you can though, they only come around once a year!



Other Design Changes:
This update comes with many changes to game design that will change the gameplay in some big ways. For example, base building is now much cheaper than before. Depending on what you are trying to construct, the requirements could be 2-3.5X cheaper! Meaning much less of your time is spent holding left click on a tree to collect logs.

Another big design change is the increased accuracy of Sniper Rifles. In Deadside, weapons are not perfectly accurate, like real rifles, they have an average zone of impact. This zone is a circle that gets wider as distance increases, and smaller as distance decreases. We feel that Sniper Rifles up to this point have been a bit unrealistically inaccurate, leading to confusion among players as to why their bullets are not hitting the target. So, we have doubled the accuracy of all Sniper Rifles, which in practice, cuts that average impact zone in half. This will allow players to become much more consistent with their Snipers, allowing for a higher skill ceiling than before.

Other changes include;
  • The number of keys in the convoy case has been increased to 3-4.
  • Now the character's dead body location marker disappears after interacting with it
  • Increased the SFX of float triggering during fishing
  • Adjusted ambient sounds
Note about localization:
We have heard the complaints about the state of localization after update 0.7.0, and while these issues will still persist into update 0.8.0, we plan to fix them in the next version. Until then, if you have any problems with localization, please submit them to our #feedback-pts channel on the Official Deadside Discord server

Admin panel:
Disabled the feature/option to restrict access to the server for players with a VAC ban on the account.

Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug that was causing issues when interacting with the base's elements/placeholders.
  • An unauthorised player can no longer place a small crate on someone else's base.
  • Fixed a bug causing the walkie-talkie to react to a bot's dead body
  • Fixed a bug with bots not reacting to the sound of grenade explosion, C4 and smoke grenade sound.
  • Fixed behavior of Helicrash event bots failing to return to the crash site in some cases.
  • Fixed a bug that resulted in the breakage of an input when equipping a weapon and interacting with an obstacle (F) simultaneously
  • Fixed incorrect highlighting of rifles in active slots when interacting with a weapon in inventory
