Rook Rook gained a large buff with the leaping change to Crushing Blow a few patches ago. While this put him in a better spot for Royale, it also encouraged Rooks to play in a rather cowardly playstyle – Rooks could play a midrange neutral game through boulders and punish his enemy with either Crushing Blow or Berserk on reaction. While having a safe option is strong in Royale, it would be more fitting for Rook to want to rush into the thick of things and pummel people into the ground. These changes are aimed at giving Rooks a reason to get in there and brawl. Damage has been moved from both Crushing Blow and Rush into the guaranteed Berserk on successful Rushes. His Berserk also causes reduced damage taken to improve trades, while its movement speed component has been scaled back to make it worse for running away. Pummel's movement speed while attacking has been increased during berserk to offset the nerf to Berserk's movement speed bonus, causing a net increase in Rook's movement speed when attacking during Berserk.

Movement speed while attacking during Berserk increased from 70% to 80%

Champion Update
During testing, melee Champions were highly oppressive due to their sticking power remaining about the same in an environment with a much shorter time-to-kill. This led us to greatly reduce the movement speed while attacking in order to clearly see the impact of the change and how it impacts the meta on a large scale when melee Champions didn't automatically stick on their targets. It proved to work a bit too well, making ranged Champions a bit more favored to get good placements and win games. We're restoring some of the movement speed to give melee champions a bigger edge in close combat.
Increased movement speed for Melee Champions while casting M1 from 60% to 70%
Croak
While adapting Champions for Royale, something we've been particularly focused on is ensuring the right balance of mobility and survivability versus damage. Given that Croak was always focused on mobility and survivability as some of his most important traits in Arena, he understandably lost a lot in that department when moved to Royale. The hit-and-run playstyle is important to Croak, but it's also important that he's able to hit hard when he does pick an engage now that he has to be so much more careful. Frog Leap will now instantly recharge Blade Flurry, allowing for a series of fast attacks immediately after landing his leap strike. Aggressive players capable of engaging with Frog Leap will be greatly rewarded for it, while not buffing the passive playstyle that we want to shy away from. These changes should help address both Croak's early game issues and also the final duel to secure a win in Royale.
Frog Leap (Space)
Damage reduced from 18 to 16
Fully charges Blade Flurry on hit
Sludge Spit (R)
Energy gains increased from 0% to 8%
Legendary Bonus energy gain from bonus projectiles increased from 0% to 4%

Initial Shield value and Shield Blaster Shield value decreased from 10 to 8
Shield Blaster damage increased from 6 to 8
Shield Blaster energy gain reduced from 6% to 5%
Damage and Shield scales slightly better with rarity
Iva
We're still experimenting with granny to find her place in Royale, the latest changes was a step in the right direction but we're continuing to try out bigger changes. These changes aim to increase her offensive power and her ability to lock down targets. Replacing the slow Concussion Shot with the more quick and offensive Tazer, replacing her Zap with an improved version of Tractor Beam and upping the power of her Flamethrower.
Boomstick (M1)
Legendary Bonus no longer reloads Boomstick with 2 extra shots after Zap
New Legendary Bonus - Your next Boomstick after Jet Pack inflicts Oil
Jetpack (Space)
Increased travel speed by ~10%
Legendary Bonus no longer causes your next Boomstick to inflict Oil
New Legendary Bonus - Increases movement speed by 30% to 2s
Flame Thrower (Q)
Reduced cast time from 0.5s to 0.4s
Reduced duration from 2.25s to 1.5s (increasing damage per second)
Now grants 10% energy
Concussive Shot (E)
Removed
New Ability - Tazer (E)
Fire a shot that inflicts Spell Block for 0.5s. When Spell Block interrupts an ability, it inflicts a Stun for 1s
Legendary Bonus - Dispells enemies and allies in an area around impact
Zap (R)
Removed
Returning Ability - Tractor Beam (R)
Channel a beam that drags enemies towards your position while blocking projectiles and melee attacks in front of you
Legendary Bonus - Tractor Beam inflicts Stun for 1s to enemies caught in the beam when the effect ends
Channel duration reduced from 2s to 1.5s
Can now move while channeling at 33% reduced speed
Rotation speed while channeling slightly increased
Ruh Kaan
Ruh Kaan's fearsome shadow looms over Talon Island, terrorizing its inhabitants. While he has certainly had a popular debut, there is nothing to indicate the Crypt Warden's particular dominance in Royale. The range of his Claw of the Wicked is designed to catch unsuspecting foes, and his Legendary perk allows him to reach for even the most defensive ranged Champions. We think this is overall a good direction for Ruh Kaan's playstyle and the Royale meta, so we've removed the self healing aspect of Claw of the Wicked instead. His healing is now entirely dependent on hitting with his charged Defiled Blade. On the topic of Shadowbolt, abilities with long cast time that require standing still need to be high impact to be worth doing at all in Royale. On a melee Champion like Ruh Kaan who also has limited mobility, this is extra relevant - rendering yourself immobile might be the difference between winning a fight or losing it, or having your prey escape from you. Overall, we wanted to err on the side of a spooky Shadowbolt than an unusable one. The damage has been reduced slightly so that followups from an ambush or incapacitate situation are less deadly but should remain a potent tool in his arsenal.
Shadowbolt (M2)
Damage reduced from 36 to 33
Claw of the Wicked (E)
Self-healing removed
Varesh
Hand of Judgement (M2)
Legendary Bonus - fixed a bug where Hand of Judgement would deal damage to targets who were countering or using a directional shield

Shatter (E)
Increased cooldown from 4s to 6s
Cooldown now scales slightly with rarity
Damage reduced from 12 to 10
Bonus damage when consuming Judgement debuff increased from 6 to 8
Corruption (Debuff)
Damage and healing output reduction reduced from 15% to 10%
Patch 0.2 is here and it’s brought a whole bunch of tricks (and treats!) for you to enjoy! With this patch comes the beginning of the Curse of the Night event, along with a host of balance updates, bug fixes, a private lobby, and a new Champion - Ruh Kaan, the Crypt Warden.
While we initially did not allow for purchasing Creepy Chests during this event, we have brought them back. You are now able to either purchase the cosmetic you desire directly with Diamonds or Tokens, or purchase a Creepy Chest and have a chance at finding them there.
Curse of the Night is here, and there’s so much to do! Besides the new cosmetics (which can now be directly purchased with Diamonds), there are new in-game items and mysterious Trick or Treat Shrines have appeared across Talon Island. Who knows what happens when you activate them? You’ll have to stop by try it out!
Make sure you get started on your Event Quest too! The first has already begun and ends on October 24th at 8:00 UTC!
The Halloween Content Contest has begun, and we’re open for anything and everything that’s both Battlerite and Halloween! Check out full rules and how to enter here.
Battlerite Royale Patch 0.2 will go live at 7:00 UTC on October 17th and contain the Curse of the Night Halloween Event, the Battlerite Royale private lobby, and new Champion Ruh Kaan.
During this patch we are planning on experimenting with the player count in matches during select time windows. During these times we will be increasing the amount of players in game to 40. Players will be notified when these theses have begun and ended via the in-game chat system.
Follow us on Twitter or join our Discord Channel to keep up to date on any more information.
Curse of the Night - Halloween Event
Creepy items are back in the world of Battlerite, along with the dark and dangerous things in the world. Three new Creepy Outfits and new Creepy Weapons are now in game, and all past Creepy Outfits, Weapons, Mounts, and Poses return to take part in the devious delights. Purchase these ghoulish items directly with Diamonds or Tokens or find them exclusively in Creepy Chests or Spooky Chests.
Spooky Chests can be earned by leveling up your Account Level, where they have temporarily replaced Silver Chests. These chests contain 3 random drops and guarantees at least 1 Rare item and 1 random Creepy item. They can also be purchased at 400 Battle Coins each.
Creepy Chests can only be obtained by completing limited time Event Quests and will not be directly purchasable with Diamonds. These chests contain 3 random drops and guarantees 1 non-duplicate Epic or Legendary Creepy item. Owning all items results in duplicate items.
Trick or Treat Shrines
A set number of Trick or Treat shrines spawn randomly across the map during the Halloween Event. Interact with the shrine to gain an unknown effect. Trick or Treat? Who knows!
Players can activate each shrine one time per player. A shrine always grants the same effect to any player interacting with it but the effect itself is randomized for each shrine.
Halloween Consumables
Vampiric Potion - Epic Consumable
Drink to gain 75% life leech for 8s
Scarecrow - Legendary Consumable
Spawn a Scarecrow that Fears anyone that enters the area

Gameplay Updates
Players can now undo their purchases in the starting area
In order to reduce network stress whenever a player dies, items are now dropped over a short duration of time instead of all items dropping instantly. This makes deaths less subject to lag.
When a player dies, they can now drop their M1 ability as long as it's rare or higher quality
Talon Island Map
Players now spawn in 4 different locations on Talon Island during the starting phase and no longer on the isolated island.
This will give players the chance to get more accustomed to the map during the starting phase when waiting for players to connect. We are also spreading out players for technical reasons as gathering all players in the same location affects client and server performance. We intend to do time-slotted testing with 40 players on the map making the isolated island even more cramped. We will see how these changes affect the experience and will continue to work on the map in upcoming patches.

We’ve been super busy with the Battlerite Royale release, but it’s time to get back to your regularly scheduled program!
We’re still discussing if there’s going to be any changes to the Weekly, and how things will move going forward. For now we’ll be mixing the content from both Battlerite and Battlerite Royale and posting them on both the Battlerite Community Forums and the Battlerite Royale Community Forums.
Halloween is coming to Battlerite and Battlerite Royale, with all your favorite Creepy Items making an appearance!
We published our second Roadmap for Battlerite and Battlerite Royale not long ago, and said we would update you all if we had any changes to plans or were able to give more accuracy to when things are coming. The roadmap had been updated! Check out what’s changing here.
That’s all for the Community Weekly this week! We hope you’re looking forward to everything that’s coming and that you’ve enjoyed everything that’s happened!
Battlerite Royale Patch 0.1.2 will be patched in at 13:00 CEST today, October 5th. This patch contains some bug fixes, some gameplay changes, updates to matchmaking, and updates to Champions. There will be no downtime, but players will be required to exit the game to download the new version.
Follow us on Twitter or join our Discord Channel to keep up to date on any more information.
General Updates
Bug Fixes
Hunter's Quickblade can no longer trigger from damage over time effects that are applied by Pestilus' Moth (M1) or Ashka's Fireball (M1)
Fixed a bug during airdrop landings where the camera would occasionally make a quick and heavy yank towards the center of the map
Fixed an issue where kills would become increasingly unresponsive as a match progressed.
Fixed a bug causing enemy movement to sometimes feel laggy.
Alysia's Ice Lance (M2) Legendary Bonus now properly works when not hitting a target
API
Made some internal changes to how we report data to the third party API, which hopefully will fix the issues which occurred for third party data consumers with the recent launch of Battlerite Royale. It should now work just like it did back before the launch.
UI
Fixed an issue where players with a lot of friend requests would receive a large wave of notifications upon login.
Fixed an issue where Champion statistics did not always show correct data in the profile
Matchmaking and Rating Changes
The matchmaker has seen a few adjustments that should more accurately reflect player performance in a given match. If a player wants to make it to the top, placing well is still important but so is getting a few kills. Overall, there's also a much larger middle ground where your rank won't change much whereas the old system you either gained a lot of MMR or lost a bit each match. Due to the fact that the new ranking system is harsher than the previous, we are rolling out a soft reset to allow players to get to their actual ratings more quickly.
Soft reset to everyone's ranking. The higher your current rank, the bigger the reset, up to a maximum of 2 leagues.
The leaderboard and win/loss statistics will be cleared.
Match Score has been changed to better reflect player performance. It is no longer possible to get to climb to Champion League without kills.
Rating change based on difference between Match Score and your MMR has been adjusted to allow for faster adjustments for both gaining points and losing points at the extreme ends. Additionally, there is a wider spread of point change in the center. This will make it more difficult than before to gain a large amount of rating from a match when your performance wasn't great.
Newly created teams are no longer always in bronze. The initial rank is based on the ranking of both players making up the team.
