When you complete an achievement in Football Drama this will unlock a "see more" web page connected to such achievement.
You will find out more about Football Drama's characters, references, making of, and most importantly, tips & tricks for winning matches and surviving the championship!
So I got this email yesterday from a beta tester friend and I know he is a great supporter and expert of Napoli FC. So I thought "Pity that there are no Napoli references in Football Drama" and then "It's so easy to change teams because all the configurations are not hard coded" and then "Wow its all already built for... modding!".
So then I woke up with the full plan: in the game first development patch after release (after the inevitable first release day patches of panic) I will add (only for desktop versions) a check at startup for a folder of customizations - if enough people ask for it.
You will be able to mod all the team's features, and also the commentary, and even the set of cards and their consequences! Because it is all in CSV files. Together with that, I will need to add in the app settings: - Show the mod's folder path. - Enable a "no personal narrative" mode so that the narrative will focus on the championship and the surrounding narrative events (meeting the other coach, president and press).
All this is actually feasible because of how Football Drama has been built in order to make it easy to test & debug.
"A mod (short for "modification") is an alteration by players or fans of a video game[1] that changes one or more aspects of a video game, such as how it looks or behaves. Mods may range from small changes and tweaks to complete overhauls, and can extend the replay value and interest of the game."Wikipedia.
So we found out that we were releasing Football Drama the same day that FIFA 20 opens for preorder... they should be scared that we'll obscure them on media! Or. Well. Or maybe not. ... Ok, we changed the release date - now its September 18th.
We are so happy to add a further game translation in Football Drama: Brazilian Portuguese! This makes it 8 languages that will be all included in release 1.0 on September 24th: English, Italian, French, Russian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese!
Translating Football Drama is not an easy task, because of the number of football and literary references; but we found a really amazing set of translators - thank you!
This illustration is part of one of Football Drama's finale, and it shows how we are closing its development.
Towards Football Drama's release, and also following it, we have a list of events where we will present previews and materials about the game. here is a (probably partial) calendar.
July: Beta release (English only).
July / August: Three songs from the soundtrack will be released as a preview.
August 20-22: Football Drama presented to the press at Gamescom Cologne. We will also pitch the nex game (still about sports storytelling).
September 14: We will talk about "Videogames and popular culture" in Ferrara Italy at the IVPro event.
Sept. 24: Football Drama release in 8 languages (EN ITA FR DE PT CH ES) on Steam, Apple Store, Google Play. The development team will stream on Steam, YouTube, Twitch and Facebook, showing game play, tricks, secret references, playing the soundtrack and chatting with friends and enemies about football, videogames and storytelling. So yes in practice it's a party.
Oct. 10-13: We will talk about Football Drama's development at the Internet Festival Pisa.
November 8-10 At the Game Happens conference in Genoa (Italy) we will talk about "Changing Sports Storytelling", i.e. about Football Drama's (and the following game) approach to sports storytelling.
So we hope to meet you digitally or in person and get your feedback. Thank you!
So Football Drama launch date is getting closer, and we are working on it as a perfectly out-of-tune orchestra \o/
This is us, at our recent and actually only team meeting and yes, you surely should not trust these guys. Ok, now is there any work getting done? Let's see.
SOUNDTRACK Football Drama has an original soundtrack by Marta Ascari which will be purchasable separately or as a bundle, also to be released on September 24th. It includes also the song finale that is magicawondrous. Here is a video of one of the last dialogues with the new soundtrack.
TRANSLATIONS We are very happy that Football Drama will be published in (at least) seven languages! All telling wildly different stories!
GAMESCOM Football Drama will be presented in its final version at Gamescom in Cologne in August (we will be there from August 20th until the 22nd), and we will also have a concept for what will follow. Friends? Journalists? Publishers? Enemies? Meet us there!
So our public release date for Football Drama is the 24th of September, the first day of Autumn. Our "data-based marketing" reason for that is that that astrological moment fits with the game’s mood, so it's cool. We will release the game on Steam, Apple Store and Google Play.
The release will be in English, German, Spanish, French, Russian and Italian. We will add more languages after release.
On the 24th there will be game devs streaming gameplay, making of, soundtrack and bonus materials - so we hope you will follow and play!
In a journey through novels, poems, movies. works, art we meditate and wonder about football's nature. From Dalì to Wenders and Pasolini, hope you enjoy the video trip.
