The Battle of Polytopia - Zoythrus™
Hello Polytopians,

In a continuation of our weekly updates, we’d like to tell you more about the Ai-Mo! These isolationist tribespeople are more interested in meditating and living in harmony instead of fighting, but are more than willing to pick up their swords when the need arises!

They ride the diligent Llamo:

And love to eat the spicy Lï-po Chilis:

Starting the game with the Meditation tech, the Ai-Mo get a head start toward unlocking the powerful and tactically useful Mind Benders. Besides having the magical power to heal all adjacent units, Mind Benders can convert adjacent enemy units to your side!

The Meditation tech primarily allows for Mountain temples to be constructed on mountains in your territory, allowing for an easier time achieving a great score when playing Perfection. More importantly, though, Meditation allows the Ai-Mo to achieve the Altar of Peace from the start of the game, assuming you dedicate the first 5 turns of the match to pacifism. That free monument means an early boost to a city, possibly even a free level up!

If you like a tribe that can focus their inner peace into the destruction of their enemies, then the Ai-Mo are the right tribe for you!

-Zoythrus

"The iconic strips on the foreheads of the Ai-Mo are made from the dye of the Issi flower, which is believed to improve mental clarity. Originally a focus to aid monks in meditation, the strips became a symbol of serenity and community, and are a staple of Ai-Moyan culture to this day."

Hello Polytopians,

In a continuation of our weekly updates, we’d like to tell you more about the Xin-Xi! Named after the tallest mountain on the Square, the Xin-Xi are avid climbers with a rich culture and deep traditions! They ride the graceful Xini-Kai and love to eat the delightfully tangy Ixi fruit.
Starting the game with the Climbing tech, the Xin-Xi have the power to climb mountains from the start of the game. Since mountains provide extended sight range, this early scouting advantage can provide them with some very important intel, such as nearby ruins or cities.

The Climbing tech also gets them a head start toward Mind Benders, the Mountain defense bonus, Mines, Forges, and Swordsmen, allowing Xin-Xi players some interesting options that other, more generalized, tribes might not have easy access to. Lastly, their terrain generates more mountains than usual, so the Xin-Xi often have a very defensible section of land, since mountains are difficult for enemies to cross. While not as flashy as other tribes, the Xin-Xi are good and solid, providing a few nifty tricks that can help them get an advantage over their foes.
If you like a tribe that can traverse mountains and play defensively, you’ll love the Xin-Xi!

-Zoythrus

"While every tribe has their own rituals surrounding the laying of an egg, the Xin-Xi are well known for their elaborate performances. At dawn, recently laid Xin-Xi eggs are painted with bright, vibrant colors and mesmerizing patterns, all while a troupe of village musicians play a song to ward off evil spirits."

Hello Polytopians,

Much like last week, we’d like to take a dive into one of the tribes! This week is the Imperius, the Square’s most regimented and organized tribe. Imperius citizens are always ready for battle, and rarely take off their helmets, as danger could strike at any moment! They ride the hardy Mado and eat juicy Lumaepeles, and are always ready for a challenge!

Starting the game with the Organization tech, the Imperius get a head start toward Defenders, Windmills, and farms. The Organization tech also allows the Imperius to harvest fruit from the start of the game, helping them grow speedily. Their terrain has no specializations, so you’ll find a generally equal amount of fruit, animals, forests, mountains, and etc. Because of these simple, yet powerful, bonuses, the Imperius are a good, all-around tribe for any playstyle, and benefit both new and veteran players alike!
If you like a jack-of-all-trades tribe, you’ll love the Imperius!

-Zoythrus

"The highly efficient society of the Imperius has inspired them to build grand libraries, write breathtaking stage plays, erect mighty monuments, mix delicious drinks, and maintain a multitude of beautiful gardens! You'll never find a more organized or more fun place on the Square!"

Hello Polytopians,

With the Steam release right around the corner, we’d like to give some of our newer players a chance to meet the tribes ahead of time! So, today, we’d like to talk about our favorite sailors, the Kickoo! An adventurous bunch, the Kickoo love the water and everything there is to know about boats and overseas trade. Riding speedy Leeons and harvesting delicious banoos, the Kickoo are a force to be reckoned with.

Beginning with the Fishing tech, the Kickoo are best suited for playstyles that revolve around navies. Since no one else gets a head start into the Fishing branch of techs, Kickoo players are usually uncontested when trying to get out onto the water. Their terrain is designed to maximize water, so you’ll have plenty of space for ports, and subsequently, Custom Houses for maximum star production.
If you like water or sailing, you’ll love the Kickoo!

-Zoythrus

"When Kickoo sailors aren't sailing, they prefer to play sports! Footraces, wrestling, and canoeing are common, but the most popular sport is Hak'ilani, which is similar to tennis but played by 4 players on a specially-made floating platform. Don't fall off!"
