HITMAN™ 2

IO Interactive has detailed what's coming up for Hitman 2 over the next month.

In its June roadmap (thanks, PC Gamer), the Hitman 2 report that "a ton of new content is on the horizon for all players" as the month kicks off its new theme, "Greed Kills". As well as a new Challenge Pack, Featured and Escalation Contracts and a new Double Elusive Target, we can also expect new sandbox location, The Bank, to roll out on 25th June.

"'The Bank' will include a new campaign mission titled 'Golden Handshake' and takes Agent 47 to an investment bank in the United States," IO1 explained in the update. "Expect new gameplay opportunities, new challenges to earn location mastery and new unlocks that will change the way you play."

Hitman 2's June roadmap is here

The bank level, revealed back in April, will be out on June 25 as part of the expansion pass along with two special assignments. As part of the Legacy Pack two of the previous game's elusive targets (the guru and the congressman) will be returning to Sapienza on June 7. Free to everyone will be a new escalation contract called The O'Leary Conflagration that's all about messing with Helen's Muffin Kitchen and will probably involving burning a whole lot of people to death. That's due on June 13, and will be followed on June 20 by another escalation called The Unpalatable Termination and new featured contracts with the theme of "Assassin's Greed". Performing them will unlock the handyman toolbox. June 27 brings yet another escalation, The Aquatic Retribution (a trip to the aquarium, apparently) and finally on June 29 there's another legacy elusive target: Mr. Giggles, the entertainer, will be back in Marrakesh.

As if that's not enough, a patch is also due on June 25, though the full notes for that haven't been released yet. It'll be a busy time for assassins.

Here are 11 Hitman missions that made us love the series.

With the arrival of Nvidia’s new GTX ray tracing driver, the number of graphics cards that can now take advantage of the tech giant’s fancy new lighting tech has grown exponentially. In addition to the four new [cms-block] cards, everyone with a 6GB GTX 1060 and up can now get a taste of that ray tracing magic. Sort of.

Alas, the number of confirmed ray tracing games is still pretty small. There have been a couple of new, notable additions to the list in recent months, including Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, but even now the number of games you can find it in right now> can be counted on a single hand. The same goes for Nvidia’s performance-boosting DLSS tech, which is still only available on the RTX 2060, RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. So I thought I’d do the hard work for you and put everything in a nice, big list, detailing every confirmed ray tracing and DLSS game we know about so far.

HITMAN™ 2

Hitman launched with DirectX 12 support, so it was strange that Hitman 2 didn't. IO Interactive finally added support March, which has boosted frame rates on higher-end systems, and the studio is working to make it better on low-end rigs, it said this week.

In a Microsoft blog post, the dev team said that users were reporting improved performance since DX12 support was added, and internal testing had showed an 43% improvement in frame rates. However, that data was gathered on a six-core Haswell CPU and AMD Fury X GPU—with lower-end systems, DX11 still offers better performance, and IO wants to change that.

"DirectX 12 requires additional work on the part of the game, so in some cases the overhead of this may result in poorer performance compared to the DirectX 11 version," it said. "We are still optimizing our DirectX 12 implementation and we expect to see improved performance on additional configurations, but currently DirectX 11 may be the best option for players with less capable systems."

It didn't say when we can expect better performance on lower-end machines, but I'd expect that it'll come as the team receive more feedback from players. You can read the full blog post, which contains details as to why exactly DX12 improves performance, here.

"With the latest update HITMAN 2 is available for DirectX 12 and users report improved performance in many cases. HITMAN 2 is a great candidate for taking advantage of DirectX 12’s ability to distribute rendering across multiple CPU cores, which allows us to reduce the frame time considerably in many cases. The realized benefits depend on the both the game content and the available hardware.

In this post, we look at how HITMAN 2 uses DirectX 12 to improve performance and provide some guidelines for what to expect."

HITMAN™ 2

Hitman fans may have different preferred approaches to the business of unobtrusive assassination, but they all agree on one thing: more people should play Hitman 2. IO Interactive has a new entry-level Hitman 2 package that may help entice more players into Hitman 2’s “world of assassinations.”

The Miami Package, which is available on Steam for $11.99 USD (or your regional equivalent), includes the Miami location and The Finish Line mission, which has Agent 47 tracking down Kronstadt Industries CEO Robert Knox and his daughter Sierra Knox. It’s a sprawling location that features crowds, an underground parking garage, and a high-performance motor race.

The pack also lets you in on the Undying Returns Elusive Contract, which gives you a single chance to assassinate a character played by a very arch Sean Bean. That contract, incidentally, is currently available to all Hitman 2 players, and runs until June 3—so if you missed it the first time around, here’s your second chance.

With the Miami Pack, you’ll also get the introductory Hawke’s Bay location and the tutorial Nightcall mission which are included in the free Starter Pack introduced earlier this year, Ghost mode for Miami, the Himmelstein Sniper Assassin mode, plus all the current and future contracts for both Hawke’s Bay and Miami. Not bad!

Miami is an excellent entry point into the modern Hitman franchise, and at this price it’s a steal.

The HITMAN 2 Miami Pack is available now and includes a wealth of content and game modes including missions from the main campaign, online co-op in the Sniper Assassin Mode and 1v1 competitive mutliplayer in Ghost Mode.
