Weâve been working on Cat Lady for about a year now, and are excited to tell you that the mansion doors are open. Weâve been hard at work updating the game since Beta (you can check out some of the updates weâve made in our last devlog) and weâve even released a roadmap for you all to check out so you know what kind of content weâll be adding to the game prior to its official release in Spring 2020.
Needless to say, weâre most excited to be able to open the doors to our process and take this journey with you all: since this game is in Early Access, it means weâll be looking to your feedback to help inform those tweaks and adjustments that we make as we prepare the final version.
If you want to join our community of folks playing Early Access, join our Discord! Through the next two weeks (the end of October) weâll be holding weekly fan creation contests for folks to win Cat Lady prizes (as well as the opportunity to win keys to the game)!
Fun tangent before signing off: If youâre in the Portland area this weekend, and want to meet the devs of Rose City Games and play lots of fun indies, stop by the Portland Retro Game Expo! Weâll be showing off Cat Lady AND Garden Story there Friday through Sunday, alongside lots of other incredible Portland indie games.
The last two weeks have been filled with us both reflecting on what weâve learned from the beta weekend as well as preparing for the Early Access launch. Before we get back to prepping for October 17th (itâs coming up so quickly!), we wanted to make sure to share two things with you to tide you over before that fateful day!
First up? Our latest vlog that goes into some of our favorite moments from Beta as well as why weâre choosing to go with Early Access (and what weâre most excited for).
Pack your bags, itâs time to visit Grandma, and this time, it wonât just be for a weekend: Cat Lady releases on Steam Early Access on October 17th! ''
ï»żWe are so excited to start this next chapter of the Cat Lady journey. The feedback from Beta Weekend already has improved the game in so many ways, and weâre especially ready to be able to include the whole community throughout the gameâs time in Early Access!
Not only are we planning on new areas of the mansionâŠbut you have lots of new cats, enemies, and upgrades to look forward to. Next week, weâll reveal our road map thatâll show you what you can expect from us throughout the process (and get even more pumped to play!)
While our blog, Twitter, Instagram, and Steam are great places to find updates about Cat Lady Early Access, the best place to join in on the fun is our Discord!
Our goal with the Beta was to gather feedback about how we can improve the game and make sure itâs moving in the right direction, and we definitely feel we achieved that goal with your help.
Weâve been hard at work with the feedback received, and we wanted to compile it into a handy-dandy image for you:
Here's whatâs been happening (and what will happen next!)
Weâve been taking your feedback to make sure the game continues to improve.
Weâre continuing to test the game internally to make sure those improvements feel great within the gameplay and style we already have established.
On Friday, October 4th (thatâs just in 2 days!) we have an announcement we think youâll be very happy to hear â be sure youâre in our Discord or Twitter to find out when we share it!
In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord and chat with us about any one of our three titles, The World Next Door, Cat Lady, and Garden Story. Talk soon!
Last weekend was a Rose City Games first: it was Cat Ladyâs Beta Weekend!
Weâre still compiling all the info that we gathered, so keep a lookout for a more detailed post next week that dives into some of what we learned and hope to improve from your feedback and from watching you play (as well as some fun facts!)
One of the things we learned? We gotta buff some of these bosses! ;)
Until then, we just wanted to say a quick, âThank youâ for participating and being such a great community to have shared this first beta weekend experience with. Woohoo!
For those of you who signed up at catladygame.com, you should have an email from VIZ Media with your Cat Lady beta key waiting for you!
Remember: itâll only work from now through Sunday, Sept 22nd, so donât wait to play! Donât see it? Check your spam folder. If it still doesnât pop up, let us know!ï»ż

Going live this weekend?
One of the best parts of doing a beta weekend is we finally get the chance to watch folks play and enjoy Cat Lady. If youâre a streamer or video creator, please donât hesitate to tag us on Twitter, email us a link, or let us know in our Discord.
While we donât have a magical portal to transport you to our Portland office, we DO have the next best thing: an official Rose City Games Discord!
Click to join!
Talk with the Rose City team, get the fun details on how Cat Lady and Garden Story are progressing, reminisce over the good times in EmrysâŠpurr-haps even see some pictures of our cats? And then you can show us your pets? Because cute things?
There will also be a giveaway of some fun Cat Lady/VIZ swag happening during Beta, and weâll be talking more details about that in the Discord. So, if you like possibly winning things, thereâs that too. đ
⊠what Cat Lady swag could this box contain?
Beta is in just THREE DAYS, everyone. Weâre getting antsy and just oh-so-ready to share the game with you. Thereâs still time to sign up at catladygame.com, so be sure to let anyone know who may be interested â sign-ups close tonight!
Today is the first day of PAX West, and oh my goodness, WEâRE SO EXCITED.
We want to give everyone a chance to play Cat Lady, regardless of whether or not theyâre able to see us in Seattle, so weâre happy to share that Sept 20th -22nd, weâll be running a Private Beta Weekend for Cat Lady! Thisâll be your chance to play the game and, we hope, provide us feedback on what weâve got so far.
BONUS: Thereâll also be a fun incentive to encourage you to give us feedback. Keep reading to find out more. đ
This is your chance to play the game in one of itâs early stages! Weâll be sending out Steam keys thatâll ONLY be active during the Beta Weekend, and during that time frame, you can play it as much as youâd like. Since this is a beta build, that means things are subject to change. What weâre hoping for is your feedback! We want to make this a game YOU enjoy, and you playing and letting us know what you think? SUPER helpful!
đ» How to sign up?
Visit catladygame.com and sign up for our newsletter by 11:59 PM PST September 17th. This is how weâll know where to send your key!
đ You said something about an incentive?
We canât sneak anything past your eagle eyes! Yes, we WILL have an giveaway accompanying this event. If you provide us feedback using the official feedback form (which weâll provide in the email on Sept 20th with the key) youâll be entered to win some official Cat Lady swag!
Weâll randomly select THREE winners from the pool of entries. See giveaway details below for all the legal stuff. While hope you agree that the best prize is the gift of knowing you helped make a video game even better, we hope you enjoy the chance to also win some sweet swag. đ
We hope you spread the news with your friends and sign up to play our Beta! Weâll have lots more fun community stuff happening along with that, so keep an eye on our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook so you donât miss a thing!
Ahhh ~ itâs that time of year again. The mornings are crisper, the nights longer, and ⊠what? PAX West is here already?!
This PAX West is our second as a studio, and weâre incredibly proud of how much weâve all grown and achieved in one year. Last year, we showed The World Next Door for the first time, and learned so much. Now, weâre back with not one, not two, but THREE titles, one of which weâre helping co-publish! It feels good.
We wanted to create a quick cheat sheet for anyone whoâll be in the area so you can find us to
a) say hi b) play our games c) bring us coffee d) all of the above
(đ€ Fingers crossed, you pick D as your response. But weâd be okay with any of the options.đ)
So, without further ado: our PAX West 2019 Schedule!
1) ALL FOUR DAYS @ INDIE MEGABOOTH: Play Cat Lady and The World Next Door all four days of PAX West at the Indie Megabooth (Booth #657 in the PAX West map, 26 on the IMB map) during exhibit hall hours.
2) FRIDAY @ THE MIX: Play Cat Lady and Garden Story at The MIX, an evening event chock full of indie games! RSVP here. (no PAX badge required)
3) SUNDAY @ THE SIX: Play Garden Story at The SIX, an all-day event featuring indie games created in the Pacific Northwest. RSVP here. (no PAX badge required)
Hopefully weâll see some of you there! And if youâre not headed to PAX West, be sure to follow our Twitter and Instagram to catch on-the-ground posts and stories of the sights and sounds of the event.
đ” We hope this news is mewsic to your ears!! đ”
The Cat Lady EP is now available! Find it on Jim Guthrie's Bandcamp, Spotify, and Youtube!
The mood of the mansion is set by more than just felines and ghosts! Cat Ladyâs music is integral in setting the stage for all the shenanigans, and weâre still over the moon that we get to work with the indie game dynamic duo: Jim Guthrie and JJ Ipsen! Theyâve been busy making sure your journey through the mansion will keep your head bobbinâ and toes tappinâ as you collect kitties and figure out just what the heck is going on with Grandma.
Whatâre your favorite tracks? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Personally, Iâm a big fan of My Toilet is HauntedâŠ.but Spooky Sleuthing is a very close second! And Mew Mew Mansion is now a classic. Oh heck. I like them all!
BONUS! On Friday, weâve got an extra special devlog for you, so keep those ears and eyes ready for more Cat Lady mews.
