0.78.1 Gun and Blood Update brings a lot of much needed fixes and polish to the core gameplay of Maximum Action!
Aiming Down Sights
Aiming Down Sights on all weapons has been fixed to correctly line up with the center of your screen.
This affects mod weapons as well, (some mod weapons may now be slightly misaligned).
The good news is mod weapons now support custom Aim Down Sights positioning, simply create an empty object in your custom gun model named "adsCameraPosition" and this will be the place the camera goes when you aim down sights on your custom weapon. No more manually adjusting the offset in the XML file!
You can also now set the position of the barrel, where muzzle flash effects will be emitted from, by creating an empty object named "barrel"
New Gun Effects
Gun smoke effects when firing have gotten a total overhaul. With effect detail set to MAXIMUM, guns will overheat when firing rapidly and expel smoke from the barrel and chamber when your gun runs empty.
Some mod weapons may need barrel realignment, either create an empty object in your FBX file named "barrel" which will update the gun barrel smoke position to be aligned with your custom weapon, or simply disable the overheat smoke particles in your custom weapon's XML file by setting <disableOverheatSmoke> to true.
Further multiple other small gun bugs have been fixed, such as the lasers on the silenced mp5 and 1911, and the left hand blocking your view when you aim down sights with the single action revolver.
Improved Blood
The blood effects in the game have also seen quite some improvement, with blood detail set to MAXIMUM the game will use much more accurate projectors for the blood and wound decals on enemies.
Further the particle effects have recieved some added detail with smoke and sparks.
Ragdolls
The active ragdoll animations and physics have been overhauled with unique death animations for where you shot a character and lots of fixes/polish to their joint physics for more smooth and weighty reactions.
There are still some bugs but overall they feel much more alive and will attempt to keep their balance while you're shooting them!
Lighting and Optimization
A few levels have had some adjustments made to their lighting, mainly the Hospital in Boiled Action, Mean Streets, and The Teahouse.
Further, Jungle has recieved some further optimization which should increase the framerate in most parts of the level, and hopefully lower the long load times and crashing. Also, the tank turret now automatically follows your mouse rather than having to be turned manually using 'A' and 'D'.
- Can now enter vehicles using the use key 'F' - Optimizations made to the new jungle level, should run/load faster - Re-added missing cheat statues to Restaurant and Shooting range - Rigidbody props will be frozen while in the level editor
Hey action stars! It's been awhile, but today a major update for Maximum Action has been released!
NEW MUSIC
The first thing you'll notice upon launching version 0.78 is a kick-ass new intro and menu theme done by the one and only Daniel J. Stimac
MAIN THEME
Daniel has been hard at work creating some great tracks for Maximum Action. I think you'll find them to be a nice blend of old and new, with an extreme level of authenticity replicating classic action movie scores.
INTRO MUSIC
"CHOW MAX FAT" (Restaurant Theme)
"THE STANDOFF" (Saloon Theme)
"GOOD LUCK PARKING"
Overhauled Jungle Scene
The Jungle Scene has been completely overhauled with foliage, destructible buildings, guard towers, and even enemy tanks.
Even further, most of the trees and plants in this updated level can be burned or cut down, for maximum destructibility.
This level has been completely opened up to feature a free-roaming section with objectives you can complete in any order. Destroy enemy bases, control towers, and ammo caches in any way you'd like!
But be careful, the enemies in this level don't mess around. Watch out for enemy tanks trying to stop you in your tracks.
Drivable Vehicles
Version 0.78 also brings the addition of player-drivable vehicles to Maximum Action. Featured in the new Jungle Scene, you'll find a motorcycle and tank that are fully drivable for you to wreak havoc.
And of course, you can spawn them at any time through the sandbox menu.
I am extremely excited to release this update, I hope you all enjoy and have as great a time playing Maximum Action as I have making it. -George Mandell
Hey everyone! It's been a little while, just checking in and letting you all know a big Maximum Action update is currently in progress!
Those of you who have been following my Twitter or watching my development streams on my Youtube Channel have probably seen the progress I've been making on updating the jungle level. I've been working hard to completely overhaul the Jungle and make it one of the most interactive scenes in Maximum Action. I'm excited to make an official announcement and show what you can expect to see in the next update!
Foilage Overhaul
The Jungle is now teeming with plants and new trees. My goal is to expand the depth of the level and add in the details I always felt were missing.
Drivable vehicles
The Jungle will now include two drivable vehicles. A T55 Tank and a motorcycle based on a Honda XL 600R.
And of course, you can do flips
Destruction
The jungle level will now feature a ridiculous amount of destruction and interactivity. Plants can catch fire, buildings can be destroyed with real-time physics, and trees can be chopped down.
Open Ended Objectives
The overhauled jungle will have a large open-ended free roam section with a few objectives to complete. In the style of Crysis or Farcry, the focus here is non-linearity. Drive, destroy, and create your own path!
This update is a big one, hoping it will be worth the wait! Appreciate all of your continued support.
Thanks for reading! Hoping to get this update out to you guys this month! Stay tuned for more.
Hi everyone! Hoping to start 2021 on a great note with an update for Maximum Action. This update brings lots of new additions and changes to the core of Maximum Action, I am very excited to present update 0.77!

Levels are now movies with their own individualized covers!
Your character is the star and appears on the front!
Endless mode levels can be selected through the endless mode tape.
Expanded Arctic Level
The Arctic level has had a new section added as well as more props and detail!
This includes the new M24A sniper rifle!
Comes in two variants one suppressed and one not, for those who want a more stealthy approach.
And of course you can snipe in slow motion!
New HUD
The HUD has seen quite a few tweaks as well, from a new character health icon that matches your current state (standing, diving, crouching) as well as addition of numbers for the value of your health and remaining action time.
Player Cinematics
Each level now has a unique intro cinematic!
See your character star in their own movie!
Props added to the Editor
Many props from the core levels of Maximum Action have now been added to the editor! Highlights include destructible cars, propane tanks, and ammo crates.
Gameplay tweaks
0.77 also brings a good amount of tweaks and improvements to gameplay, such as fixes to the ragdoll physics as well as updated blood and muzzle flash particle effects.
Hope you all like this update! Very happy to get this out to you all and there should be lots more coming soon! The official patch notes will be updated shortly.
Thanks for all your continued support, and again, Happy New Year!
Hi Everyone! George Mandell of Balloon Moose Games here with an official announcement of my future plans for Maximum Action.
Roadmap
Shifting the focus My first order of business is making the game more movie focused. Maximum Action is an ACTION movie game after all, and I want the user interaction, presentation, and levels to reflect that. This means things like:
Cutscene/Intro cinematics
Level objectives given through a movie script, (think like the mission objectives in Goldeneye)! These will be pretty loose, and just for unlocking the next level/your replay. I don't intend to restrict the gameplay.
New level selection screen (Work in Progress)
VHS/VCR diegetic style for the user interface and interaction
As well as new music designed to emulate the score of 80's/90's action movie classics.
Each level is its own movie that you play a part in!
Further, I plan to rework the replay system to be like a mini movie trailer showing highlights from your gameplay. Your customized character will become very important as they are the star!
Expect to see things like custom one-liners, cheesy boss fights, and credits for your production!
Finishing existing levels
After that, I plan to polish/finish the existing levels, adding things like more destructible environments, vehicles, bosses, and weapons.
New levels and editor overhaul
Once the current levels reach an acceptable state. I plan to add new levels and overhaul the level editor to create a more streamlined experience. I am looking into allowing custom level importing through FBX files as well!
Increased mod support and Co-op
Finally, before releasing into 1.0. I want to expand the mod-ability of the game, hopefully to allow more custom content on the Steam Workshop such as character models and voice lines.
Further, I plan to experiment with adding co operative game play modes into the game. No promises here as I still have some research to do on whether this is feasible.
Then full release into version 1.0!
I want to thank everyone for their support and excitement regarding the future of the game! Hope you all stay tuned! I have been consistently developing this game since about 2015 and I have no intention of stopping, I am personally very excited to see how far I can take it.
We've got a new scene for you today and it's gonna get... MESSY.
