CHAOS IN NEW EDEN
Winter Nexus is a fantastic way to end the year on a high note, but of course there’s already plenty of action going down in the cluster, with pirate insurgencies, corruption, and chaos spreading throughout New Eden. The Havoc expansion brought with it plenty of action, new ships to fly, and ample opportunity for capsuleers to clash in the fight for or against corruption, and it will continue to sow chaos well into the new year and beyond. The action continues in Winter Nexus, and you can even use the wealth of available Skill Points to train the skills needed to fly the new Angel Titan.
Put on your winter SKINs, capsuleers, and get ready to brave the storms and take on the festive challenges coming up. We will see you in the snow!

The gates to the recently discovered Zarzakh system are open to all who dare enter, and now is the time to venture forth and choose where your loyalties lie. Will you side with the Angel Cartel or Guristas pirate factions, becoming an insurgent, or do you intend to play the hero with empire militias?
WREAK HAVOC
EVE Online: Havoc is the second major expansion for EVE Online in 2023, and as of today, it opens up a wealth of choices, adventures, and combat options. It is a hazardous world, filled with ancient mysteries, and it gives pilots the opportunity to live a pirate’s life in New Eden. In addition to new ships, activities, and locations such as the visually stunning Jovian megastructure, “The Fulcrum”, capsuleers can expect great adventures as pirates attempt to corrupt systems, spurred on by the mysterious Deathless.
A PIRATE’S LIFE FOR YOU?
The Havoc expansion finally allows capsuleers to fulfill what has long been a dream of many: To enlist with New Eden’s notorious pirate factions. You will get the chance to aid The Deathless in spreading chaos throughout empire warzones by aligning with the Angel Cartel or Guristas. The completion of the new interstellar shipcaster in Zarzakh enables you to get there even faster and start making your mark. Pilots will be able to spread corruption as insurgents, or fight for order as empire militia, with a wealth of Loyalty Points on the line. Siding with the pirates will bring access to new ships, including the Azariel-class titan and Khizriel-class battlecruiser from the Angel Cartel, Alligator-class battlecruiser from the Guristas, as well as making Mekubal and Mamba destroyers available through the dedicated Pirate Insurgent LP Stores.
PREPARE FOR INSURGENCIES
The insurgencies get under way today as the pirate Forward Operating Base (FOB) chooses systems for pilots to compete over. After the FOB appears, however, there will be a 48 hour forecasting period, as the pirates set up and prepare their assault. This gives capsuleers a chance to get their ships into position (or out of harm’s way, as the case may be) before the actual insurgency begins. So, once you have chosen your side, you should begin getting ready, as the proper battle over corruption or stability begins in two days’ time.
WARZONES IN SPACE AND ON LAND
In addition to providing access to pirate Forward Operating Bases and the stunning Fulcrum hangar, Havoc brings with it EVE Vanguard, a dynamic and evolving FPS experience in early development, which will be connected to EVE Online from day one. When it comes online in December, capsuleers will be able to impact New Eden, and fuel its war machine, directly through Frontline corruption. You can sign up here to be among the first to join the ranks of Vanguard.
STRENGTHEN YOUR CORP
Havoc will further empower organizations by making Corporation Projects bigger and better than ever before. ISK payments will now be integrated into projects, meaning that manual payments will no longer be necessary, new project types will be added, and there will now be a dedicated project manager role. AIR Opportunities will now be available to new capsuleers earlier through the AIR NPE, and the expansion adds the ability to take a break from the NPE and come back to it any time. The expansion introduces seven new project types, including Remote Repair Armor and Remote Boost Shields, Destroy Capsuleer’s Ship, Scan Signature, and more. In addition, project cloning is now available for ease of creating similar or recurring projects.
Further adding to capsuleers’ ability to find things to do on a daily basis in New Eden, Havoc will see the introduction of the new AIR Daily Goals system in December 2023, which will build upon the current daily challenges. This system will give capsuleers a selection of four tasks every day but will require only two of them to be completed for the main reward to be given.
In the spirit of strengthening organizations and making life easier for capsuleers in and out of corps, better accessibility to features and gameplay in the Havoc expansion also comes in the form of improvements to the Photon UI interface. Omega pilots now have the option to personalize their experience by customizing the UI color scheme, and there are updates to the Settings menu, presenting a more modernized look consistent with the rest of Photon UI, including the addition of two new font sizes. Alphas get access to pre-made UI themes, previously only available to Omega capsuleers.
Speaking of personalization, Havoc will also see the release of corporation and alliance emblems for the new ships coming with this expansion, specifically the Mekubal, Mamba, Khizriel, Alligator, and Azariel. So even if you are aligning with pirates, you can still proudly fly your organization’s colors! This is only the beginning of Havoc. There are further enhancements coming in an update tomorrow, and the coming weeks and months will see even more Havoc updates. So, keep your eyes and ears open, capsuleers.
STAY TUNED FOR TWITCH DROPS
As the chaos on the frontlines unfolds, be sure to stay tuned to CCP TV for amazing Twitch drops, full of fun goodies to make your pirate adventures even more fruitful. The countdown to EVE Online: Havoc - the upcoming second major expansion for EVE in 2023 - continues with this third installment of the Havoc in Focus series, giving you early insight into more specific elements of the expansion due 14 November.
Havoc will introduce the brand-new Angel Cartel Khizriel-class battlecruiser, the Guristas Alligator-class battlecruiser, and the long-awaited Angel Cartel Azariel-class titan. The recently added new Angel and Guristas destroyers will also be touched on in this article.
These stunning new ships were unveiled in detail at EVE Fanfest 2023 to much excitement. Get the lowdown on these pirate ships as they are discussed throughout this article, in the video below, as well as on stream via CCP TV at 16:00 UTC on 26 October!
THE PIRATE FLEET – DESTROYERS AND BATTLECRUISERS
The appeal of pirate spacecraft is never far from the dream of representing the pirate factions in New Eden, and the new ships being introduced in Havoc will absolutely fuel that fantasy, along with staying true to offering unique bonuses and challenges to unlock as with other pirate ships in EVE. The Angel Cartel and Guristas pirate factions will be getting new battlecruisers when Havoc is launched, and the new destroyers for both factions are already in the game, with BPCs available to those who have successfully carried out all the necessary tasks in the Awakening Zarzakh event.
The Guristas have the Mamba-class destroyer, which is based on the Corax, as well as the upcoming Alligator-class battlecruiser based on the Drake hull. Both the Mamba and the Alligator share the same missile firepower as the hulls they are based on, while also having Guristas drone boat bonuses and shield resistances, making them incredibly durable and also capable of delivering significant damage at the same time.
The Angel Cartel has the Mekubal-class destroyer and the upcoming Khizriel-class battlecruiser, both of which are completely new hulls. The Mekubal and Khizriel feature high projectile DPS and fall off bonuses, while also boasting the high level of mobility capsuleers would expect from Angel ships, with warp speed bonuses and top speeds for their class.
These are the first pirate faction destroyers and battlecruisers introduced into EVE that capsuleers can fly, and they are ships that the community has wanted for some time. Adding them into the Havoc expansion builds on the introduction of navy issue destroyers and battlecruisers in 2022’s Uprising expansion. The design and balance of these pirate destroyers and battlecruisers takes strong inspiration from existing pirate craft, for example the Guristas Alligator battlecruiser could be seen as a merging of the Caldari Drake-class battlecruiser hull and the Guristas Gila-class cruiser in terms of attributes.
The Guristas Mamba and Alligator share the same slot layouts as the Corax and the Drake respectively. As for the Angel ships, the Mekubal has a high/mid/low slot layout of 6/3/4, and the Khizriel has a 7/5/6 layout, meaning that these new Angel ships are fairly flexible to be either armor or shield tanked. The battlecruiser and the destroyer BPCs will be in the Pirate Insurgent Loyalty Point Stores come 14 November and the release of Havoc, and capsuleers will be able to exchange Pirate Insurgent LP obtained from Pirate Insurgency activities for those BPCs.
AZARIEL ARISE – ANGEL TITAN
If pirate destroyers and battlecruisers were ships that capsuleers were hungry for, then they were positively ravenous for the Angel Cartel titan that was introduced some years ago in the form of concept art! Effectively the Angel logo viewed from above and turned into a ship design, that concept art has often been referred to by those wishing to see the Angel titan take actual form within EVE.
In the Havoc expansion, the Angel Cartel will finally roll out their long-awaited titan, the Azariel. Although the ship is based on older concept designs, there was always something promising there to work with, and further concepts were produced based on subsequent passes made on those original designs. Modified to reflect the standard seen in today’s EVE ship designs, inspiration for all the new Angel ship designs was drawn from sources such as animal skulls and insect armor plates, and thus the Azariel was born.
This pirate behemoth maintains one of the signature Angel Cartel ship bonuses to warp speed, which at first glance may not make a great deal of sense for a ship the size of a titan, however it works very well for a specific type of gameplay. Its warp speed bonus will allow the Azariel to get safe from hazardous circumstances in a shorter time, giving it something of an edge. With its extremely high projectile turret DPS – second only in the titan ecosystem to the Vanquisher – it has the highest potential alpha strike of all EVE ships. That ability to get in and out quickly, applying a monstrous amount of immediate DPS in alpha, makes the Azariel the ultimate hyper dunking titan.
The Azariel BPC will be available in the Angel Cartel Pirate Insurgent LP Store, and over the last couple of years, pirate faction titans have had a wide range of build materials, cost, and methods of acquisition. The addition of the Azariel, another pirate titan, meant that there was an opportunity to simplify the field, make balancing easier, and make the titans comparative to one another – ultimately to make sure these ships are reasonable to acquire and build.
As a result, the build materials for pirate titans have been adjusted to be equivalent to that of a Tech I titan. This simplification means that the building of a Vanquisher, Azariel, or Komodo pirate titan will require as much material as that of an Erebus or Leviathan.
With the build materials coming down, the intention of keeping pirate titans as the pinnacle ships in EVE meant that some of that pirate titan premium had been moved to the blueprint acquisition cost. These BPCs have been expensive to source, many of them only being obtainable from pirate shipyard sites. In the case of the Serpentis Vanquisher-class titan – only available through the Serpentis LP Store – the majority of its cost was in its build materials, with a comparatively cheap blueprint cost. Consequently, the base cost of the LP needed to purchase its BPC was increased at the same time as the reduction in build materials. Having that upfront premium means that changes to a ship’s position in the ecosystem based on their valuation will be more impactful, and not dependent on the alteration of blueprint materials.
Come 14 November, the mighty Azariel from the Angel Cartel will claim its place in the formidable titan ecosystem, and its monstrous DPS and killer looks promise to make it every bit as special as capsuleers have been hoping since those original concept drawings were shared. A lot of love has been put into the Azariel, both in terms of design and aesthetics. We can’t wait to see it in space, and in your hands!
Once a year, EVE Game Masters (GMs) take to the sky and throw down in New Eden for an entire week. This year’s GM week is almost upon us, running from 23 - 27 October, featuring favorite events from previous years, along with a few new twists as always. EVE GMs are cooking up a variety of in-game happenings, contests, streams, prizes, and other shenanigans, so jump in, meet the GMs who maintain the world of EVE and join the celebrations! Furthermore, this year’s GM Week coincides with Crimson Harvest, meaning the traditional gifts and assets the GMs bring with them will be even more likely to drop!
In-Game Activity
GMs will be actively present in New Eden throughout the week on various help channels, as well as in person aboard impressive & aspirational ships. They can be found across various starter, career agent, and Sisters of EVE Epic Arc systems, engaging with players and answering questions in chat – marked by their signature red text!
Events
Whack-a-Bot/GM - 23 October at 16:30 UTC
Traditionally, one of the most popular activities of GM week has been the super fun Whack-a-Bot event, where pilots have gotten the chance to bring their wrath down on bots in Capital and Super-Capital ships. In a whopper of a first-world problem, Team Security has been so effective of late that the pool of bots to whack is now virtually non-existent. As such, the Whack-a-Bot event will be laid to rest and replaced with ships populated by Game Masters, old and new, giving capsuleers a chance to score some juicy loot and even juicier corpses!
GM & ISD Fleet - 26 October at 17:00 UTC
The GM and ISD fleet will take off on their annual epic roam into the unknown on 26 October. Normally the fleet has been commanded by BjornBee, and these romps have always been a hoot. This year, however, we are recruiting a new streaming partner to FC them to greatness. Don’t miss a second of this fun-filled misadventure.
Orbital Stash
Seek out easy-to-find containers across the cluster, in a treasure hunt of epic proportions. Each stash will be named with an EVE-related riddle and accessible only by inputting the correct answer as a passcode! All answers will be in lower-case to avoid confusion.
The Orbital stashes will also become comfortable streams with pretty backgrounds. Tune in to see the soothing colors, take a breath, and relax a little before you shoot off to locate the containers and reap the rewards.
Scavenger Hunt
Put your detective hats on, capsuleers, and start gathering clues to the locations of pesky GMs, hiding in various places around New Eden. Keep your eyes peeled, as various hints will be dropped both onstream and through in-game channels. Hunt down Game Masters and you’ll be rewarded with handsome goodies.
Armed Piñata Hunt
A GM might suddenly appear in your neck of New Eden carrying lots of loot - PLEX, SKINs, and fun vanity items! The caveat is that they will not surrender their prize until they explode, and they WILL shoot first. Get ready for some epic PVG (player vs GM) action, and some truly epic loot!
Contests
GM week sees some super-fun contests with lots of goodies to win, open for submissions until 27 October at 23:59 UTC. Keep an eye on the forums and the official EVE Discord for more information! Action All Week Long
Each of these events will run for the entire duration of the GM week celebrations, so no matter where or when you play, you’re certain to find something fun to participate in!
We can’t wait to share another bombastic and action-packed GM week with you all.
Another Fanfest has come and gone, attracting pilots from all over the world, who leave warm memories and fuzzy feelings in their wake. As a part of the 20 Years of EVE celebrations, the 2023 edition of Fanfest was extra special, with energetic events and amazing announcements dazzling those who traveled to Iceland, as well as capsuleers tuning in to the live stream from around the globe. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who joined us, in person or virtually. The EVE Fanfest 2023 presentations are available on YouTube, if you missed them live.

In 2025, EVE Fanfest will return to Harpa, the concert and conference hall in downtown Reykjavik. One of Reykjavik's most striking landmarks and a center of cultural and social life in the very heart of the city, Harpa has played host to several Fanfests in the past, and it will be exciting to return to this spectacular venue.
Fanfest 2025 is scheduled for 1-3 May. We look forward to welcoming you to Reykjavik!

EVE Online: Havoc will be the second major expansion for EVE in 2023, and as with the Viridian expansion in June, the In Focus series will give you early insight into specific upcoming elements of the expansion due in November, starting here!
Havoc will allow you to align with the Angel Cartel or Guristas pirate factions and spread corruption in empire warzones, introduce brand new Angel and Guristas ships – including the long-awaited Angel Cartel titan – as well as building on the strong foundations for player corporations that debuted in Viridian with enhancements to Corporation Projects, AIR Opportunities, and more.
At EVE Fanfest 2023, the previously-uncharted Zarzakh star system was opened, and it was revealed that the system was under the control of a group of insurgents called the Deathless Circle. This narrative revelation will drive the upcoming Pirate Insurgencies from Zarzakh into Factional Warfare space within empire territories and the ability for capsuleers to align themselves with the Angel Cartel and Guristas. Get the lowdown on this new space as it is discussed throughout this article, in the video below, as well as on stream via CCP TV at 16:00 UTC on 12 October!
AWAKENING ZARZAKH
Going into the Havoc expansion, the opportunity to advance some of New Eden’s storylines was taken, with more being revealed about the Jove Empire. During the EVE Operations: Epiphany event, capsuleers were tasked with finding four ancient and previously hidden Jovian stargates, all leading to the mysterious new Zarzakh system. These gates were opened up to capsuleers at Fanfest 2023, and Zarzakh was suddenly on New Eden’s map as an ancient, abandoned nexus in the hands of the shadowy Deathless Circle faction, led by The Deathless himself. Zarzakh’s four Jovian gates are connected to the Curse and Venal nullsec regions, as well as the Turnur and Alsavoinon systems in lowsec.
Speaking of mysteries, the Deathless Circle is also currently something of an enigma. They have clearly moved into Zarzakh before anyone else, have been there for some time, and have managed to establish a basic understanding of its contents and technology such as operating the Jovian stargates.
Inside Zarzakh, there are Jovian relics which provide a fascinating background to the pirates who occupy the system, including a Jovian megastructure called “The Fulcrum” where The Deathless has set up base. He has allied with Angel Cartel and Guristas pirates by promising them a brighter future, offering them this sanctuary hidden from the empires.
Zarzakh itself has a completely different atmosphere to the rest of New Eden. It represents brand new space for capsuleers to explore, including a totally unique environment that is as ancient and advanced as many will come to expect from anything touched by the Jove Empire. It has limited visibility and a lot of it has not yet been discovered. Within the system is an interstellar shipcaster construction site, and this location, plus The Fulcrum, and the four stargates are surrounded by safe zones that do not damage any ships. However, venturing outside of those safe zones will immediately come at a price, as Zarzakh’s hostile environment begins to damage a ship’s hull at an increasing pace.
Going forward, the in-game narrative will develop to allow capsuleers to participate in unraveling more of Zarzakh’s secrets. Linking Turnur, Alsavoinon, Venal, and Curse through Zarzakh may also be significant in terms tactical movements within New Eden in the future.
EYES ON THE STORM – ZARZAKH’S VISUALS
When designing the Zarzakh system and conceiving its atmosphere, the desire was to create something visually stunning, but also something that had not been seen before, as well as incorporating the new volumetric cloud technology into this space. The environment is brighter than many locations in EVE, but it is chaotic as well, reminiscent of being in the heart of a sandstorm. The effect of including gigantic, silhouetted structures in space set against this chaotic, cloudy, but relatively bright environment creates a moody contrast, one that is befitting of an ancient Jovian location.
The unique nature of the Zarzakh system is reflected in the way it feels to explore it in your ship. The mystery of its origin is translated into the visual experience of flying through the sandstorm, avoiding the treacherous regions within that space, and the partially obscured full scale of The Fulcrum megastructure.
Another atmosphere that needed to be created to fit thematically with the narrative and atmosphere of Zarzakh is the interior of The Fulcrum. Come November, capsuleers will be able to dock at the Jovian station, and the visual impact of that will add to the overall theme of aligning with pirates in their sanctuary beyond the empires.
DARKNESS & CHAOS – ZARZAKH’S SOUNDTRACK
The soundtrack created for Zarzakh conveys the chaotic Jovian darkness of the system, aiming for an auditory experience that lies somewhere between sound and music. There are no musical themes as such, no pulse, rhythm, or chord progressions, but a flowing and constantly evolving texture that maintains a common thread in its sound while never repeating itself in exactly the same way.
With music that is specific to a star system like Zarzakh which could potentially play for hours, variation is important. Making music which is never precisely the same every time you enter Zarzakh is one way of addressing this challenge. The sound and feel may be the same, but the organization of the “musical piece” is always different. Striking a balance between music and pauses in the music is also important here.
The music stays in the background and merges with the SFX, so that it is not obvious what is music and what is sound design; it’s one thing. Special attention has been paid to create a subtle but clear transition in soundtrack between safe zones and death zones. It is less of a warning UI sound and more an eerie feeling that something is just not right out there in the death zone.
Overall, both audio and graphics work harmoniously to portray Zarzakh as a different, foreign world that can be dangerous and harmful, while maintaining the wonder of exploring new space and ancient mysteries.
As capsuleers continue to collect materials for The Deathless during the ongoing Awakening Zarzakh event leading up to the release of EVE Online: Havoc on 14 November, they will get more access to pirate Loyalty Point tokens to save or exchange for the new pirate destroyer BPCs. The Fulcrum will also get closer to full operating capacity, which promises to kick proceedings up a gear! The Deathless is motivated to gain a deeper understanding of Jovian technology and the history of the Zarzakh system, so there will be more mysteries to uncover after the release of the Havoc expansion. Get involved now by aiding The Deathless and his pirate allies in bringing more revelations to light!
Crimson Harvest is here, so it’s time to head out there to cause mayhem in a nightmarish New Eden. Expect monstrous loot drops, horrific in-game events, and blood-curdling rewards from 5 October to 6 November.
Log in today to start reaping the daily login rewards, which include boosters, SKINs, EverMarks, Skill Points and more. Not only will there be rewards given every day to those logging in, the 25th login during Crimson Harvest will be rewarded with 250,000 skill points for Omega and 75,000 for Alpha capsuleers.
HARVEST OF HORRORS
To get involved you just need to pick a side in the bloody conflict between the Blood Raider Covenant and the Order of Tetrimon. You will find combat and hacking sites scattered throughout Highsec, Lowsec, Nullsec, and wormhole systems with combat sites appearing as anomalies in the Probe Scanner. Head into your preferred area of space, use the Agency Anomaly Scanner to scan down sites, then warp in to take on a series of frightening challenges in the dungeons that await. In-game Community Fittings, supplied by EVE Partners and players, will be available during the event so you can put your best fit on. More challenging sites, promising even greater rewards, can be found by those who dare to dig deeper into the mysteries of the void.
Additionally, since it is the season of wanton murder, PvP kills will drop loot at a higher rate, around 90% instead of the regular 50%.
