The Foundation Quadrant is upon us as EVE’s 18th birthday dawns! This new Quadrant, officially starting on 4 May, will offer a series of connected events, art updates, rewards, and so much more. Foundation will embody the pride felt across New Eden within four of its mightiest Empires; the Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, and Minmatar.

Since 2020, EVE Online releases have been divided into four Quadrants each year, packed with exciting events, game features, login campaigns, and balance updates. Each Quadrant has a unique theme focused on a specific aspect of EVE Online, which guides the type of content you can expect to see. Quadrants are not limited to delivering content within a set theme only, but most will be connected to it to provide a holistic experience for Capsuleers in New Eden. The content itself is delivered in smaller increments throughout the Quadrant’s duration instead of a single big patch, giving you something interesting to do on every space adventure!



This next Quadrant ‘Foundation’ aims to celebrate the identity of the four Empires of New Eden, as well as the incredible 18 years that have passed since EVE’s own founding. It represents the pride in the history of these four Empires that have become the cornerstones of New Eden, pride in players’ own accomplishments, and pride in the collective journey that’s propelling EVE toward its third decade.

Furthermore, ‘Foundation’ recognizes the impact that the gift of Capsule technology has provided in extending humanity’s journey through New Eden and beyond, which you can read more about here.

Firstly, Capsuleer Day, the anniversary celebration itself, is right around the corner. Capsuleer Day runs for 12 whole days from 11:00 UTC 6 May to 11:00 UTC 18 May, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to participate and collect in-game rewards. We will be sharing more details about the Capsuleer Day in the next few days!



Following Capsuleer Day, a series of in-game events focused on celebrating each of the four main Empires will run throughout the Quadrant. You can expect limited-time challenges, art updates, rewards, daily gifts and plenty more to accompany these celebrations!

There will be unique video trailers for each Empire during the Quadrant, giving you a peek into their background, unique identity, and significance to New Eden. You can also expect to discover more about significant characters from each Empire, the lore that defines and connects them, and the history that has shaped New Eden as we know it today.

As mentioned in an article released on 1 April, the four Empires will also be embarking on projects to construct new stargates to their territory, and they will be asking the players for help to reshape the map of New Eden. So, you may want to keep your eyes peeled for some highly anticipated Gates coming this Quadrant.

As usual in a Quadrant, Foundation will include ship balance updates and other in-game events.

Also, as mentioned earlier in the Industry Announcement, the Bonnie and Clyde's of New Eden can rejoice, as the keys to the ESS Reserve Banks will become available later in the Foundation Quadrant.



If that wasn’t enough, Foundation will also bring updates to the Pochven region of Triglavian Collective-controlled space starting with improving the accessibility, a significant visual refresh of the Jita Station’s interior, and the introduction of a brand-new 3D version of Aura, your guide to New Eden.

As EVE approaches this remarkable milestone, we wanted to reflect on everything that has made the last 18 years so special, the millions of moments which make up the incredible stories EVE players have been creating together for nearly two decades.

There are already plenty of well-known tales which will pass down in legend. The steel nerve of the heist which stripped every asset from the once mighty Circle-of-Two; the subterfuge required to build the cluster’s first ever citadel in complete secrecy; the 14 hour savagery of Fury at FWST-8 - we’re not short of headline events. What we want from you is the things we may have missed: the moments you’ve witnessed in person which have defined your Capsuleer experience.

We’re looking for short video clips which showcase these memories so we can include them in an official 18th birthday player celebration video. These clips can be from any era of EVE Online, from any faction or activity, as long as they’re important to you - we want to capture the full spectrum of experiences from 18 years of emergent history.

Did you capture your first PvP kill, the maiden voyage of your favourite ship, or the time your corp finally sprung a trap months in the making, eradicating your mortal nemeses?

Or perhaps it’s a moment of kindness and generosity somewhere out in the void, something which kindled an ember of humanity in your heart.


We’ll be giving out prizes to entrants every day the contest runs, from April 26 - 30, with a panel of CCP developers giving out special prizes to the ultimate winners when the contest ends.

A selection of the best clips will also feature in our very special “18 Years of EVE Online” player celebration video, to be released once the winners have been decided.

• All entries must be submitted between 26th April and midnight UTC 30th April. Prize winners will be selected at random on each day of the competition, with the ultimate prizes being awarded by a panel of EVE developers. Winners will be contacted via email.

The guidelines for your video entries are as follows:

• The preferred resolution is 1080p, but this isn’t compulsory.
  
• Clips should be in .MP4, .AVI, .MOV, .FLV or .WMV format.
  
• Clips can be from any year of EVE Online - the wider the range the better.
  
• Clips can be any length up to a maximum of 60 seconds.
  
• All content must be yours to submit. Any entries containing footage belonging to others will be disqualified.
  
• CCP reserves the right to use all video entries for promotional purposes.

Limitations for this round are:

• Modules limited to meta level 5 and below
  
• No pirate implants

As always, Proving Filaments are required for participation, collected from Abyssal Deadspace loot drops or bought from the in-game market.

Since June 2020, Project Discovery participants have contributed to a major real-life scientific program that aims to understand the immune system’s response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In partnership with teams at McGill University, BC Cancer and front-line COVID-19 clinicians such as Dr Andrea Cossarizza (Professor of Immunology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia School of Medicine in Italy), players have been marking cell populations on graphs which help scientists further understand how COVID-19 specifically affects blood cells. With over 115 million submissions made in the past year, players have helped to produce data that would not exist without the efforts of EVE’s dedicated global community.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, the Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet.
