Super Animal Royale - Michael | Pixile

It has been extremely difficult to keep this a surprise, but we’re super excited to finally be able to say that we’re leaving Early Access, releasing v1.0 and launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 TODAY! And we seriously couldn’t have done it without all of your love and support over the course of these 2.5 years, Super Animals.

We’re so proud not only of the game, but also of this wonderful community that has grown around it. We’re so lucky to be on this adventure with all of you. On behalf of everyone on the Pixile and Modus teams, thank you.

More than anything, we view v1.0 as the beginning of a new chapter for Super Animal Royale, and a strong foundation to build on top of. The list of ways we plan to continue evolving and improving upon the game are endless and we’re already hard at work on the next updates (so keep that feedback coming!), but it’s important to celebrate milestones and this is a big one. So let’s get the celebrations started by diving into all that is new in this major v1.0 update!

The Highlights

See some of what’s new, and the top clips and artwork from the SAR community in the latest episode of Super Animal Royale Tonight! You can also check out all of the fanart contest entries on our website here and previous episodes of SAR Tonight here.

Here are some of the highlights that you can look forward to when you boot up v1.0:
  • Season 1 arrives alongside the Animal Pass Archive that lets you activate previous seasons that you own alongside the current season (no more FOMO!)
  • New cross-play platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 join Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (cross-play matchmaking and cross-save supported today, and cross-platform parties for duos and squads coming in the future). Google Stadia and Geforce Now cloud streaming support are coming soon too!
  • Mini Animal pets: yes, your Super Animal can now have a smaller animal as a pet.
  • Map update: Super Animal Farm expands to include Mini Ranch, a petting zoo for Mini Animals.
  • Super Frogs (5 breeds total)
  • New Super Powerups + changes to existing Super Powerups
  • Variety x SAR Petember collaboration to raise funds for service dogs for kids in need
  • Steam achievements
  • South America server + Brazilian Portuguese language
  • Controller improvements, gameplay refinements, gun balancing, performance improvements, and more!
Season 1: Super Animal World Pass

The first Animal Pass after Early Access is themed after Super Animal World itself, the safari park you know and love that played host to visitors from around the world before “The Incident” changed everything. Find outfits and cosmetic items from many fine S.A.W. establishments including Slow Food, CRISPR Cafe and the Welcome Center. There’s also a Mini Capybara pet and the perfect emote for celebrating the arrival of Season 1!

Animal Pass Archive

The current season costs 550 SAW Tickets to unlock, and now with the new archive system, previous seasons won’t go away for good: you can activate any previous pass that you own to earn progress on it alongside the current season, or purchase a previous season that you missed for 750 SAW Tickets. The XP you earn goes into both passes too (not split between them)!

Season 1 Starter Pack DLC

The arrival of Season 1 also means we have a new Starter Pack DLC that includes a new Skullcat breed, 2 cosmetic items, and a great deal on SAW Tickets (enough to use on purchasing the new Animal Pass):
  • Super Warrior Skullcat
  • Warrior Outfit
  • Macuahuitl (melee weapon)
Starter Packs can still only be purchased during their season, so if you’re interested, make sure to pick it up before Season 2 and a new Starter Pack arrives!

Welcome new players on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation

In addition to Steam, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players, as of today you’ll now start seeing Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5 players in your cross-play lobbies! All versions of the game also support cross-save by logging in with your Super Animal Account, so you can bring your Steam progress with you wherever you play.

Cross-platform parties (to enable inviting friends from a mixture of platforms to squad up with you) are not yet supported, but we’re excited to say that the feature is actively in development so you can look forward to it in a future update! We’ll update you all as soon as we have an exact ETA on when it’ll be arriving.

The console versions are launching first in North America, South America, and Europe, but will also be coming to Asia later with their own local launch! Cloud streaming versions for Google Stadia and Geforce Now will also be available in the near future.

Improved Controller Support

Alongside the porting process, we also spent some time refining controller support for the game, so all you controller fans can look forward to some nice improvements:
  • The controller reticle style has been updated and now rotates towards the aiming direction.
  • The aiming reticle only shows while you are actively aiming (to help avoid confusion with walking direction).
  • The distance of the reticle has been standardized and is closer to the animal which helps a lot with aiming.
  • For lining up shots at range, dots appear beyond the reticle so that aiming both near and far with a controller feels better under the new system.
  • In settings, controller users also have two new toggles if they want to refine their control method: a toggle to turn off the left stick affecting aim (so aim only changes while using the right stick) and a toggle to show the reticle when moving with the left stick (if you want to bring back the way it worked pre-v1.0).
Mini Animal Pets & Map Update

Your Super Fox can now officially have a Mini Fox as a pet (because of course every animal needs an animal as a pet).

Mini Animals are adorable purse-sized versions of traditional animals, originally designed by S.A.W. as pets for park guests to take home as souvenirs. Like a stuffed animal you have to feed. Unlike the Super Animals, Mini Animals are quadrupedal and small brained. The idea was to make traditionally untamable beasts suitable as pets by engineering them to be, if not exactly tame, at least mini enough to prevent serious maulings.
  • Adopt one of 8 Mini Animal pets from the SAW Shop for 750 SAW Tickets, or earn the Mini Capybara in the Season 1 Animal Pass.
  • Mini Animal pets follow you around the island while you’re alive… and will sleep faithfully by your gravestone if you die. Don’t worry, the SAW Scientists thought ahead and bioengineered them to be immune to Super Skunk Gas (it just puts them into a hibernative state).
  • They have both a run and walk animation depending on your speed, and will cower when you're standing still and shooting, as well as from nearby explosions.
  • Mini Animal sounds can only be heard by their owner (client-side) aside from once the player dies, in which case their sleeping sounds can be heard by everyone.
  • Line of sight to see Mini Animals is tied to their owner’s line of sight, so using a pet won't give you away unless you yourself are visible.
  • If you prefer, you can choose to have your Mini Animal pet only show up in the lobby and not accompany you during the match. Toggle this setting in the Customize screen when you equip your pet.
  • Private Match hosts can disable pets using the /pets command.
Map Update: Mini Ranch

Visit the S.A.W. Shop’s special branch at Mini Ranch dedicated to producing and selling Mini Animals on Super Animal Farm. S.A.W. Shop’s “Mini Mart” blends the high end consumer aesthetic of S.A.W. Shop with the chaotic, “is anyone watching these children?” vibe of a petting zoo.
  • Super Animal Farm has expanded to the east to include the new Mini Ranch point of interest.
  • Visit the ranch to see roaming Mini Animals that you can pet.
  • The Mini Mart gift shop includes animated ads from back when Mini Animals were sold to Super Animal World guests.
Super Frogs Are Here

Say hello to the first Super Amphibian from SAW: the Super Frog! You can now unlock the Super Frog and its 4 additional breeds in the Research Lab, starting at level 30:
  • Super Frog
  • Super Tree Frog
  • Super Rain Frog
  • Super Horned Frog
  • Super Dart Frog
New Super Powerups + Improvements

  • NEW: the SAW Impossible Tape powerup will instantly repair your opponent’s damaged armor upon their death, saving you tape and time. Impossible you say? Not for SAW Scientists. Note: level 3 armor will only be repaired to 2/3 ticks.
  • NEW: the Bandolier powerup increases your max carrying capacity for ammo, super tape, grenades, skunk bombs and bananas.
  • UPDATED: the Skunk Gas Vial has been redesigned as the Skunk Gas Snorkel. The new design better reflects its current functionality that was updated in previous patches. It now prevents coughing while in Skunk Bombs but all other functionality remains the same.
  • Claw Boots now let the wearer move just as fast in shallow water as on land (removes the movement speed penalty of shallow water).
  • Banana Forker now also doubles the amount of health you gain from eating coconuts, mushrooms, and event items. It also increases the range at which you can eat them.
Variety x SAR Petember Fundraiser

We’re super excited to be partnering with Variety - the Children's Charity to raise funds and awareness for service dogs for kids in need this September! Content Creators can participate by hosting a charity stream, and players can tune in and donate to earn an exclusive pack of SAR cosmetic items:
  • Variety Tuxedo
  • Variety Tophat
  • Variety Petember Umbrella
We’ll also be revealing a code on September 1st that everyone can redeem for free to help spread awareness for a great cause, so watch the SAR Discord server and social channels for that!

Your participation in Petember will help children get the service dogs they need. These real life Super Dogs change the lives of kids living with autism, anxiety, and epilepsy. If you want to get involved or learn more, check out the full Petember website here, pup:

Gameplay Updates & More
  • Steam Achievements
  • South America server + Brazilian Portuguese language
  • The Skunk Gas has been updated to use a shader rather than particles, which improves performance for low end graphics cards and provides better clarity while in the gas.
  • Guns now play an added "low ammo" sound when shooting while near the end of their clip.
  • Pinging items & objects now last 10.5s rather than 7.5s.
  • Teammate map markers now have an audio spam buffer set to 2s rather than 0.8s, and the in-world paw marker now has an anti-spam buffer too, set at 2.6s.
  • Pressing shoot while in an emote will cancel the emote rather than instantly shoot. As well, there is a small buffer on being able to shoot after the emote ends (this buffer also applies if cancelling an emote manually).
  • Hamsterballs now have a maximum damage of 101, so slight turns/movements will no longer have the issue of sometimes doing 99 damage and narrowly missing a full rollover kill.
  • Grenades, Skunk Bombs, Bananas, and Super Tape now visually show 2-packs when dropped (rather than appearing as a single item visually) so you’ll be able to see more clearly exactly how many items are on the ground.
  • We finally have a fancy credits screen, accessible from the main menu! It features the one and only Pete the Sloth, playing Pete’s Song from the Super Animal Royale Soundtrack by Jake Butineau.
  • The Super Animal Account flow has been improved with additional screens to provide better clarity around logging in, creating an account, or skipping the process (which you can do if you only plan on playing the Steam version).
  • Added a "Recent Players" option to the main menu where you can report and mute players after encountering them in a match.
  • Updated the design of the Animal Pass progress widget on the main menu, and made it possible to see progress on both passes at once if you have an archive pass active.
Gun Balancing
  • Thomas Gun's spawn rate in Rebel Caches has been slightly reduced (spawn weight in rebel caches lowered from 3 to 2, which matches the rate of M16 drops in caches). We felt it was a bit too common relative to its power, and as such have adjusted it to be slightly more rare.
  • Running now increases Thomas Gun recoil by 20% (previously was 9%), and the initial recoil pattern is more volatile. However, random spray recoil has been reduced from 5.8° to 5.7°.
  • Running now also increases SMG recoil by 15% (previously was 9%), and the initial recoil pattern climbs faster. However, random spray recoil has been reduced from 6.1° to 5.9°. This change along with the Thomas Gun change help balance their power relative to rifles and differentiate their weapon class more.
  • AK bullet speed increased by 6 (common is now 178, uncommon is 186, and rare is 194). M16 bullet speed increased by 8 (epic is 204, legendary is 212). These bullet speeds enable more long range reliability to help differentiate them from Pistol & SMG class weapons.
  • Thomas Gun bullet speed lowered by 5 (epic is now 160, legendary is 170). This change helps bring it more in line with the submachine gun class of weapon that favors firing rate over range and accuracy.
  • The Pistol, Dual Pistols, and the Silenced Pistol had their additional bullet speed from rarity decreased from 10 to 9. For example, the bullet speed of an epic Pistol is now 162 (down from 165). The change is fairly minor but it is part of our overall goal of balancing weapon speed this patch, and creating a clearer differentiation between short/medium range weapons and longer range weapons.
  • AK now has a more volatile recoil pattern for its first 3 shots, followed by a more centered pattern after that. Random recoil has been reduced from 4.2° to 3.6°, however running increases AK recoil by 33% now (previously was 21%). These changes encourage more burst firing and creep movement to stabilize recoil, for those who learn the new firing pattern.
  • M16 now has 40% increased recoil while running (previously was 32%). This is in-line with the AK change to encourage creep firing for accuracy.
  • M16 has a smoother recoil pattern after the 4th shot (but before randomized recoil kicks in). This allows for a bit more control and predictability.
Optimizations & Bug Fixes
  • Improved the style of all the animal head umbrellas (they’re now better matched to their respective Super Animals and eyes aren’t spaced as far apart as before).
  • Reduced the size of the map file from about 6MB down to 4.3MB.
  • Preallocated more objects at match start so there is less chance of stuttering during Eagle flight.
  • Fixed a bug where shadow casting objects were allocating new rather than recycling as the player moves around.
  • Improved performance of the fog of war shadow system by 10-15% depending on the region of the map.
  • Improved performance of recycling ground texture tiles.
  • Reduced animation update frequency for far away characters so they don't use as much CPU.
  • Increased the duration that news entries on the main menu display before changing to the next entry.
  • Fixed arm stretching issue when shooting the Magnum.
  • Fixed head bobbing when your character is creeping and shooting a Thomas Gun.
  • Fixed character aim stutter issue when using a controller and pointing the joystick straight up or straight down.
  • Fixed slight controller joystick movements causing inadvertent creep zoom (only intentionally using the creep button will trigger creep zoom now).
  • Fix for controller navigation sometimes being incorrect after changing Milestone tabs.
  • Fixed a bug for controller users where the quick chat wheel would show where you died rather than where you are spectating.
  • Fixed a bug where controller navigation would break on the controller bindings screen when changing from a keyboard to controller.
  • Fixed a bug where players could bind map marking/unmarking to the same key as "open map".
  • Fixed map screen not showing custom controller bindings for marking and unmarking.
  • Fixed controller bug where rapidly claiming milestones would cause selection of the item reward popup to be lost.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the hot spring at Penguin Palace to lose its animations and sound.
  • Fixed grenades being throwable over the Sphinx walls.
  • Fixed hedges on the side of the bamboo resort that had a small gap that mole crate items could pop into.
  • Fixed compression artifacts in the Hopperfield Tophat.
  • Fixed game chat activating while typing in the report description box (if your chat hotkey was bound to a letter key).
  • Fixed a display issue with the rounding of S.A.W. Shop bundle prices.
  • Premium item rarity backgrounds now show in the Milestones tab for Super Edition milestone rewards. They also now display in the Animal Pass reward preview panel on the main menu.
Last but not least, we’re also re-activating Mystery Mode at launch for a limited time, until Sunday, September 12th at 11:59pm PDT!

We hope you all have a great time with v1.0 and as always, let us know what you want to see in our next updates in our Discord server or on your preferred social channel (Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit or Steam Discussion Forums). See you on the island, Super Animals!
Super Animal Royale - Michael | Pixile

We have a big weekend planned for all you Super Animals working on your Beach Party Passes!

All weekend long you’ll earn Double XP from your games played, dailies, and weeklies to make extra speedy progress through Season 0.5, and we’re also bringing back the limited-time S.A.W. vs Rebellion 32v32 mode. Both begin today (July 29th) at 6pm PDT and will be live until this Sunday (August 1st) at 11:59pm PDT.

Animal Pass Archive System Inbound
We’re also super excited to announce that our new Archive System for Animal Passes will be launching alongside our Season 1 update! The new system allows you to continue making progress on past seasons that you own alongside your progress through the current season.

During the design process for the Animal Pass system last year we had great conversations with many of you about the fear of missing out that tends to come with expiring battle passes. We want Animal Passes to be respectful of your time and not create stress about rushing to complete them, so we devised this system to let you play through them at your own pace!

Just visit “The Archive” once the new update arrives and you’ll be able to activate any previous season passes you own to complete them alongside the current season’s Animal Pass. You can always purchase the current Animal Pass season for 550 S.A.W. Tickets, and previous seasons will also be available for 750 S.A.W. Tickets once they move into the archive.

S.A.W. vs Rebellion (32v32) Returns

This weekend, stage a rebellion as a member of the Super Animal Super Resistance (S.A.S.R.) or fight to stop it as part of the Super Animal World (S.A.W.) security forces.

For those who haven’t tried it yet, the mode lets you load into matches with a squad of up to 4, and you’ll be placed on one of the two teams of 32. Then, you’ll take off on one of two Giant Eagles that will drop your team and the enemy team on opposite sides of the island.

Each team wins when they either defeat the entire opposing team of 32 animals or capture and hold 3 or more strategic flags on the island. Flags also provide loot when captured and a health buff when you’re nearby them, so they’re important objectives to prioritize.

The game has two limited-time modes so far (32v32 and Mystery Mode) that we rotate in for special events like this, and we’re working on more, so let us know what you want to see next here or in our official Discord server!

Super Animal Royale Tonight

The deadline for clips for the next episode of SAR Tonight is approaching, so get your superest and blooperest moments submitted before this Monday, August 2nd at 11:59pm PDT!

You can get all the details in our previous Steam post about submitting clips right here.

We’re sure many developers would claim the same thing, but we really think we have one of the best communities around, so we’re always looking for opportunities to turn the spotlight on each of you.

The SAR animated series, Super Animal Royale Tonight, aims to do exactly that! In addition to telling SAR stories that sync up with changes in-game on the island, the series showcases the superest (highest skill) and blooperest (funniest and most creative) clips from the community.

You can check out previous episodes from SAR Tonight Season 2 on YouTube.

Super Fanart Contest #3

In addition to clips, this episode will also be highlighting the top selections from the latest Super Fanart Contest. You can view the art from previous art contests here or in-game on the walls of the Super Museum of Modern Art, and if you’d like to submit a piece you can find more information and submit a piece by August 8th here.

As always, your feedback helps us keep making the game better and better, so be sure to share what you want to see next in SAR on Discord, Twitter, Facebook and our Subreddit. See you on the island, Super Animals!
Super Animal Royale - Michael | Pixile

Hello Super Animals, creators and destroyers! There’s a new episode of Super Animal Royale Tonight coming, so that means submissions are now open for your superest and blooperest clips.

We’re also taking submissions for our latest Super Fanart Contest, and the winning submissions will also be showcased in our latest episode of SAR Tonight (season 2, episode 4)!

Super Fanart Contest #3

As we prepare to launch Super Animal Royale out of Early Access in the not too distant future, we thought the perfect prompt for our third Super Fanart Contest would be the day that Super Animal World itself first opened its doors to the public!

Submit your artwork in whichever static medium you prefer for a chance to have it featured in-game at SMOMA (as well as in SAR Tonight and on the contest website) and get a shot at the coveted Golden Paintbrush.

Art prompt:
“Opening Day at Super Animal World”

Submissions due:
Sunday, August 8th by 11:59pm PDT

Get the full details and submit your piece in the Google Form here:

https://forms.gle/MCftReKDP4LFzqaz7

To see what players have submitted for previous fanart contests, you can visit SMOMA (Super Museum of Modern Art) in-game or visit the fanart website here:

Note: both previous contests are visible on the site as well as their accompanying winner presentation videos by esteemed art critic, Rabbita Smith.

SAR Tonight Clip Submissions

Watch the latest episode above (Season 2, Episode 3). Winning clips will be showcased in our next episode, later this summer!

For those new to the show, Super Animal Royale Tonight is our animated series, hosted by Donk Patrick and Howl Michaels, that features top community clips, submitted by you. It also tells a linear story set in Super Animal World, in locations you can visit in-game (often featuring new regions that you'll be able to visit after the episode airs).

Submit your clips for a chance to be featured in the next episode and win an exclusive SAR Tonight cosmetic!

Submissions due:
Monday, August 2nd by 11:59pm PDT

Clip Requirements:
  • 1080p+, 30fps+, less than 30s
  • Please only submit up to 3 Blooper Scooper clips and 3 Superest Kills clips maximum (Blooper Scooper showcases the funniest and most creative clips, and Superest Kills showcases high skill, exciting gameplay).
  • Please only submit clips from recent versions of the game (as a rule of thumb, don't submit clips older than 6 months, but if they're amazing and we haven't seen them before we might select something older).
  • Please do not submit any clips with copyrighted music.
Tips for getting selected:
  • 16:9 aspect ratio preferred.
  • Shorter clips are preferred, but please try to leave at least 2-3 seconds on either side of where you think the best action is, so we have flexibility with the edit. If a clip is cut too abruptly it may not be usable.
  • Visual clarity is key. If it is hard to follow the action, a clip is less likely to be selected.
  • Reactions can make clips particularly great, so streamer overlays / facecams are good as long as they're high quality and don't distract too much from the clip.
Submit your clips here:

SAR Tonight Season 1
You can also go all the way back to the beginning and watch Season 1 here or we've also put together a recap video if you just want to get a summary of Season 1.

We increased the production values throughout Season 1 as we established the show, so if you just want to watch a portion of the first season, Episode 3 begins most of the deeper storytelling, and Episode 5 bumps up the production values significantly.

It’s getting heated on the island and that can only mean one thing: Super Summer Royale is here!

You’ll now find fruit baskets scattered across the island that can be redeemed in the Summer Event Shop for 8 new limited-edition summer cosmetic items and 17 legacy summer items. Survive longer to earn more fruit baskets at the end of the match and be sure to start hunting early, to grab as many as you can before the event ends July 20th!

On top of being spendable for cosmetic items, Fruit Baskets are healthy and nutritious and will reward you with 20hp when you eat them (and yes Giant Emus can snack on them too). The Delivery Mole also has 3 baskets per crate as one more reason to fight over its valuable loot.

8 new 2021 summer items:
  • Beach Sunglasses
  • Blue Striped Umbrella
  • Blue Beach Hat
  • Starfish Visor
  • Message in a Bottle
  • Sandcastle Gravestone
  • Beach Party Sarong
  • Beach Party Outfit
We’ve also brought back the summer-themed music at the Welcome Center fountain and added two brand new Super Animal breeds to the Research Lab in time for summer:
  • Super Avocado Sloth
  • Super Dragonfruit Wolf
These additions expand the roster of fruit-themed animals that began with last year’s Super Strawberry Skunk and Super Pineapple Hedgehog.

And lastly, but arguably most important of all: you’ll now find beach balls along the southern shorelines that you can and should kick. Just try not to get...you know...killed while you’re playing beach soccer.

More v0.98 Updates
  • The main menu news box now automatically rotates through news items.
  • News box items that link to something externally in your browser now have an icon to indicate this (news box items that don’t have this icon, like seasonal events, open within the game client).
  • Premium items (DLC, S.A.W. Shop, Animal Pass) now have special item backgrounds to help differentiate them in your inventory.
  • The Animal Pass now has an estimated date for the next season (late-August)!
  • Updated the Point emote to have a directional arrow for where you’re pointing (like the one in its icon).
  • Added an idle animation for beach clams.
  • Pressing [Escape] now closes the inventory screen if it's open (previously it opened the Paws Menu).
  • Fixed an inventory bug where controllers wouldn't scroll through armor and powerups in the proper order.
  • Fixed an issue where AFK players that were auto-dropped from the eagle were stuck in the ocean until landing.
  • Translation fixes.

We’re so excited to finally share this Major Update and welcome all of the new Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S players to the island with you, Super Animals! There's a lot to cover so we'll just get right into it.

v0.97 Highlights
  • Season 0.5 (our second Early Access season) starts now with the new Beach Party Pass.
  • Xbox Game Preview is here (at 6am PDT), with cross-play matchmaking support for Steam and Xbox players to play together. Playstation, Nintendo Switch and Stadia versions arrive later this year alongside the launch of v1.0.
  • Super Animal Accounts for cross-save support across platforms.
  • Super Turtle joins the fight (+ 4 additional Super Turtle breeds).
  • Map update: the size of the island has grown, with all-new shorelines all the way around, featuring regionally styled buildings, shallow water, crabs and Giant Giant Clams that contain loot.
To kick it all off, we have a brand new episode of our animated series, Super Animal Royale Tonight, that highlights the top community clips from the previous season, submitted by you, in addition to expanding the world and storytelling of the game (including a preview of the new shorelines that you'll be able to explore in-game).

New Episode of Super Animal Royale Tonight

Tune in to see which players had the superest kills and scooperest bloopers of Season 0, and pick up where we last left the cast, with Joe captured by the rebels and Donk and Howl considering the ransom of 10,011 S.A.W. Tickets. If you want to catch up on previous episodes of the animated series you can find the YouTube season playlists here:
We increased the production values throughout Season 1 as we established the show, so if you just want to watch a portion of the first season, Episode 3 begins most of the deeper storytelling, and Episode 5 bumps up the production values significantly.

Beach Party Pass (Season 0.5)

The second Early Access season has arrived, with another 49 tiers to complete, for the same 550 S.A.W. Ticket price of the previous pass. The 28 new cosmetic items are a mixture of beach-themed wear to match the shorelines update and items featured in the musical trailer embedded above, so that you and your bravest super friends can reenact moments from "The Incident" at the Super Animal Super Stage (scratch that, terrible idea).

We'll let you explore the whole pass in detail yourselves in-game, but some of the highlights include the Vaporwave M16 with custom firing sound effect, point emote, and clarinet, fishing rod and marching cane melee weapons that each have their own custom equip sound. In addition to cosmetic items, the pass also contains Carl Coins, Super Serum, and S.A.W. Tickets.

The Season 0 Animal Pass has now been replaced by the Season 0.5 pass, but it won't be gone for good, so don't worry if you weren't quite done! We're working on designing and implementing a new archive system for Animal Passes that will allow you to re-enable and purchase previous passes so that you can complete them at your own pace. We plan to debut the new system in our v1.0 update later this year alongside the Season 1 pass!

Cross-platform note: the Animal Pass and its progress sync between platforms, but S.A.W. Tickets are platform-specific, so any S.A.W. Tickets earned in the pass will be granted to the platform you're playing on at the time of the reward. The same is true of purchased S.A.W. Tickets, which will only be redeemable on the platform you purchased them on.

Super Animal Accounts & Cross-Save

Upon updating, you'll be greeted by a create account / login screen so that you can claim your Steam save data to a Super Animal Account. If you've played before on Steam, you'll want to create a new account to associate that existing save data with it (don't create the account on Xbox if you have existing PC save data that you want attached to your account). Once you've set an email and password, your save data will be associated with it so that you can log in with the same Super Animal Account on Xbox and have your progress sync!

If you don't ever plan on playing on other platforms you can skip account creation/login! Just keep in mind that if you ever change your mind and do play on other platforms in the future, we don't support account merging, so only one platform's save progress can be associated with a Super Animal Account.

Super Turtles

The S.A.W. Scientists have made a major breakthrough and are pleased to introduce the first cold-blooded Super Animals in the Research Lab, Super Turtles! They can be unlocked starting at level 60, and include the following breeds:
  • Super Turtle
  • Super Aqua Turtle
  • Super Loggerhead Turtle
  • Super Slider Turtle
  • Super Tortoise
We also have some new cosmetic items that pair perfectly with the Super Turtles that you can look forward to in an upcoming giveaway! Join our Discord or watch our Twitter, Facebook or Subreddit to catch those when they drop.

Super Shorelines Map Update

The island's shorelines have been completely re-done with new assets and better looting opportunities:
  • Map size has increased from 4248x4248 to 4608x4608 (+17.6% total area) with a combination of increased island size and added deep water so that the island doesn't get quite so close to touching the edges of the map.
  • Shorelines have been rebuilt and expanded out, with shallow water that you can wade into (at the cost of speed) before hitting the deep ocean.
  • New region-specific structures have been added along the updated beaches including huts, bungalows, a lifeguard station and more.
  • The biggest changes were made in the south, east and western shores, but additional expansions were also made along the northern snow cliffs, including new crossable bridges.
  • The river mouth outside of Superite Mountain is now surrounded by cliffs and has two crossable bridges.
  • Interior inlets/rivers have also been updated, in addition to some areas near to shorelines.
  • Eagle flight speed has been increased along with the map size change.
  • The first few gas circles have been tweaked to match the new map size.
Shoreline mechanics:
  • Shallow water slows movement by 31%, unless in a Hamsterball or Emu, in which case it only slows by 11%.
  • Animated crabs have joined the beach party and can be found along portions of the new shorelines. They also have a new secret milestone associated with them.
  • You can also find and open Giant Giant Clams in shallow water that provide ammo, Super Tape, grenades, or Skunk Bombs.
  • Keep in mind that creep-walking on shallow water will still make splash sounds, so you won't be as sneaky as on land if you're making a water-based approach.
Gameplay Adjustments & Bug Fixes
  • Emotes that support movement are now limited to 20.0 movement speed, and weapon speed no longer affects them.
  • It's no longer possible to use creep-zoom while emoting, healing, or taping (you can only use it while your sniper-class gun is actively equipped).
  • The second to last gas circle's warning timer has been adjusted from 15s to 18s to provide a bit more breathing room for intense final fights.
  • Fixed some environmental z-order issues near the top of the map.
  • Translation fixes.
We also have some new bundles coming to the S.A.W. Shop, with brand new items debuting in them. The Sailor Bundle will arrive when the S.A.W. Shop rotates this Thursday, June 3rd at 6pm PDT!

Hey Super Animals,

To prepare for upcoming platform releases, we are making price adjustments to most regions to account for currency fluctuations, balance some inconsistencies on our initial pricing, and maintain fairer pricing across platforms and regions. Each platform approaches localized pricing slightly differently, so we've attempted to find a reasonable middle ground between them so that the prices can be the same no matter which platform you play on.

The pricing update will go into effect on June 1, 2021.

The following table lists the new pricing for our DLC packs and S.A.W. Tickets. Base pricing in $USD won't be changing, but is provided for reference:

We’ll continue to update pricing as needed to account for currency fluctuations.

Hey Super Animals, we’re so excited to finally share that Super Animal Royale is coming to consoles, and that every console version will support cross-play matchmaking with Steam, and the ability to bring your game save with you wherever you play! It’s been really hard to keep it to ourselves as we’ve worked with Modus to make it happen, but we’re thrilled that very soon you’ll be able to play SAR on your TV with Xbox or PlayStation, play on the go on your Nintendo Switch, or stream it from the cloud with Google Stadia.

We hope you’ll be as excited as we are to welcome all of the new players to the island. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players will arrive first on June 1st as part of the Xbox Game Preview program so they can participate in providing Early Access feedback along with all of you before our full launch, and Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and Stadia versions will follow when the game leaves Early Access later this year.

In order to support this, when you update to the new version of the game on June 1st you’ll be greeted by our new Super Animal Account system. Signing up with an email and password will let you claim your PC/Mac save data to your account and then you’ll be able to bring it with you to Xbox Game Preview or wherever you play in the future (including bringing your console save data back to PC).

Alongside the console news, it’s taken a lot of restraint to keep from singing about the trailer embedded above. We had such a blast creating this musical extravaganza! Lore-hounds should recognize a key moment from Super Animal World’s history, referred to by S.A.W. Legal as “The Incident,” revealed here for the first time.

Major Update and New Animal Pass Season Incoming

In addition to welcoming in all the new Xbox players to the island, PC players can look forward to a Major Update with our biggest map expansion yet (literally the biggest by sheer surface area changed) and a brand new Animal Pass season.

The entire shoreline surrounding the island has been redesigned and rebuilt, with roving crabs to meet and Giant Giant Clams to open. The new beaches, traversable shallow water and southern islands also increase the island’s overall size so that there’s more area to play in. Additional deep ocean water around the edges of the map and tweaked Skunk Gas parameters now make it so that beaches will be in the Circle of Life (Skunk Gas safe zone) a bit more often too. There are also multiple new types of shoreline buildings and structures that make looting the perimeter of the island more rewarding.

As of June 1st you’ll also be able to start making progress through the brand new Beach Party Pass, our Season 0.5 Animal Pass (the second Early Access pass). It contains a mixture of beach-ready gear, costumes seen in the musical trailer above, and more. You can unlock the full pass for 550 S.A.W. Tickets.

The Season 0.5 Animal Pass works the same way as the Season 0 pass, and will mark the end of Season 0. However, this won’t be the last time you’ll see Season 0. We’ve been talking with a lot of you in our Discord server and on our social media channels ever since the first Early Access Animal Pass came out to see how you’d like to see the system evolve. One of the issues that came up most often was that players don’t like that old passes go away entirely, which can make the end of a season a stressful race to the finish line before the pass expires. We agree! So we’re designing and are working to implement an archive system for previous seasons. It’s not ready to release quite yet, but you can look forward to it debuting alongside the Season 1 Animal Pass when the game leaves Early Access later this year.

What this means is that if you don’t finish your Season 0 Animal Pass in time before Season 0.5 arrives, you’ll have another chance when the archive system arrives (and all your progress from this season will remain saved)! We’ll have more to announce as we get closer to Season 1, but the system will allow you to re-activate previous passes that you own so that when you purchase a pass you can feel comfortable finishing it at whatever pace works best for you.

We’ve been ready to burst holding back all this news, and now we’re equally eager to finally share this big update and welcome all of the new Xbox players in less than 4 weeks!

See you all on the (bigger and better) island soon, Super Animals!

S.A.W. Shop Bundles
Thanks to some hard work from Ms. Macawsome, the S.A.W. Shop now has support for discounted item bundles! The first bundle will be available tomorrow, April 1st at 6pm PDT when the shop rotates and is themed to get you in the spirit for spring:

This is only the first of many bundles, so you can check the shop weekly to see all the new ones we've created! If you already own an item in a particular bundle, you'll still be able to purchase the bundle to complete your set and it'll automatically adjust its S.A.W. Ticket price to give you the same bundle discount on the remaining items that you don't yet own.

We also have a surprise new weapon cosmetic that will be rotating into the shop for April 1st tomorrow...praise banan!

Mystery Mode

A new limited-time squads game mode has arrived and will be active for the duration of the Super Easter Event, until April 25th at 11:59pm PDT!

Join a lobby with a squad of up to four and a dice roll will deliver you one of 7 modified riffs on the battle royale mode:
  • Bananarama - Praise banan! Gun bullets are bananas, bananas spawn more frequently, grenades/skunk bombs are banished, and every time it rains it'll be banan rain.
  • Wild West - Cowboy hats for all and weapons are limited to magnums, hunting rifles and bananas. Specific to this mode, magnums and hunting rifles are available in every different rarity tier including epic and legendary!
  • Shotguns & Snipers - Only shotguns and snipers will spawn, but they can be found in every rarity tier in this mode, so you can find an epic shotgun in a Rebel Cache or a gray sniper on the ground.
  • Super Slow Bullets - All weapons shoot with 50% bullet speed so you can get your super dodge roll on to avoid them.
  • Super Fast Bullets - All weapons shoot with 200% bullet speed!
  • Handguns Only - Only pistols, dual pistols, silenced pistols, magnums and deagles.
  • One Hit Kill - Every weapon kills in a single shot (or hit or peck). Armor, grenades and skunk bombs are disabled and skunk gas speed and warning times are 20% faster.
New Animal Pass Season Begins in Late-May!
We'll have more details on the next season of the Animal Pass as we get closer to it, but it's officially coming in late-May! We've added the late-May date to the pass in-game as well and will update it with the specific date as we approach it.

More v0.96.9 Updates
  • A new set of milestones has been added for munching mushrooms. The new item rewards for completing them are: a Mushroom Shirt, Mushroom Umbrella, and Mushroom Cap.
  • Existing milestone items will have their rarity converted from orange to a suitable regular rarity color. The gun skins are already like this so we are finally standardizing for all (this is just a visual change).
  • Dogna's Dart Gun clip size increased from 5 to 6, and maximum ammo increased from 30 to 35. This change helps give a bit more breathing room for missing a few shots, and we will also be evaluating other improvements if necessary in the future (especially around healing).
  • The current game mode is now displayed in-game below the minimap in the lobby and in the paws menu during a match.
  • Toggling UI off will now also turn off the recently added arrow that points to the Circle of Life when tutorials are turned on.
  • Fixed a bug where invisible mushrooms could be pinged during a match lobby.
The next update after the Easter event ends will be a Major Update in late-May that includes the new Animal Pass season, so it’ll be a bit of a longer gap between updates than usual, but we think it’ll be worth it once you see what we have in store! We’ll have more to share leading up to the update including another content creator item giveaway with brand new items, so keep your super eyes peeled for more info later in the month. 👀

Cherry blossom season is also almost here so watch our social media channels for the Sakura code making its return very soon!
