Thanks to some hard work from Ms. Macawsome, the S.A.W. Shop now has support for discounted item bundles! The first bundle will be available tomorrow, April 1st at 6pm PDT when the shop rotates and is themed to get you in the spirit for spring:


This is only the first of many bundles, so you can check the shop weekly to see all the new ones we've created! If you already own an item in a particular bundle, you'll still be able to purchase the bundle to complete your set and it'll automatically adjust its S.A.W. Ticket price to give you the same bundle discount on the remaining items that you don't yet own.

We also have a surprise new weapon cosmetic that will be rotating into the shop for April 1st tomorrow...praise banan!

Mystery Mode



A new limited-time squads game mode has arrived and will be active for the duration of the Super Easter Event, until April 25th at 11:59pm PDT!

Join a lobby with a squad of up to four and a dice roll will deliver you one of 7 modified riffs on the battle royale mode:
  • Bananarama - Praise banan! Gun bullets are bananas, bananas spawn more frequently, grenades/skunk bombs are banished, and every time it rains it'll be banan rain.
  • Wild West - Cowboy hats for all and weapons are limited to magnums, hunting rifles and bananas. Specific to this mode, magnums and hunting rifles are available in every different rarity tier including epic and legendary!
  • Shotguns & Snipers - Only shotguns and snipers will spawn, but they can be found in every rarity tier in this mode, so you can find an epic shotgun in a Rebel Cache or a gray sniper on the ground.
  • Super Slow Bullets - All weapons shoot with 50% bullet speed so you can get your super dodge roll on to avoid them.
  • Super Fast Bullets - All weapons shoot with 200% bullet speed!
  • Handguns Only - Only pistols, dual pistols, silenced pistols, magnums and deagles.
  • One Hit Kill - Every weapon kills in a single shot (or hit or peck). Armor, grenades and skunk bombs are disabled and skunk gas speed and warning times are 20% faster.
New Animal Pass Season Begins in Late-May!
We'll have more details on the next season of the Animal Pass as we get closer to it, but it's officially coming in late-May! We've added the late-May date to the pass in-game as well and will update it with the specific date as we approach it.

More v0.96.9 Updates
  • A new set of milestones has been added for munching mushrooms. The new item rewards for completing them are: a Mushroom Shirt, Mushroom Umbrella, and Mushroom Cap.
  • Existing milestone items will have their rarity converted from orange to a suitable regular rarity color. The gun skins are already like this so we are finally standardizing for all (this is just a visual change).
  • Dogna's Dart Gun clip size increased from 5 to 6, and maximum ammo increased from 30 to 35. This change helps give a bit more breathing room for missing a few shots, and we will also be evaluating other improvements if necessary in the future (especially around healing).
  • The current game mode is now displayed in-game below the minimap in the lobby and in the paws menu during a match.
  • Toggling UI off will now also turn off the recently added arrow that points to the Circle of Life when tutorials are turned on.
  • Fixed a bug where invisible mushrooms could be pinged during a match lobby.
The next update after the Easter event ends will be a Major Update in late-May that includes the new Animal Pass season, so it’ll be a bit of a longer gap between updates than usual, but we think it’ll be worth it once you see what we have in store! We’ll have more to share leading up to the update including another content creator item giveaway with brand new items, so keep your super eyes peeled for more info later in the month. 👀

Super Tutorial



Our biggest feature for this update that we’ve been working on for a while is a brand new tutorial system, featuring NPC animals to meet and in-world tips. We want all of your feedback on the new system so we can continue to expand upon it and improve it, so we’re enabling it for all players even if you’re a long-time player. We’d really appreciate it if you let us know what you think in Discord, Twitter, Reddit, Steam comments or any of our other channels!

Our main design goal with the tutorial was to make it as unobtrusive as possible, and teach players while they’re actually playing without getting in the way, but if you find it distracting it can be turned off with a single switch in the Paws Menu. Re-enabling the tutorials at any point will cause them to restart at the beginning of the chain.

Here’s how it all works:
  • During your first match, you’ll meet Moosevelt and Quack Shot who will introduce the basics of playing SAR.
  • Then, while you play, contextual tips will appear pointing out useful mechanics. They’re designed to appear when they won’t be too distracting so you have time to read them and perform their action, but let us know if they could use more fine tuning.
  • When Skunk Gas begins to move in and you’re outside of the safe zone, an additional arrow will now appear to help new players find their way to the Circle of Life.
Updated Night Mode

  • Night mode has been updated to be more atmospheric, with new color temperature and lighting.
  • Conal vision has been removed in favor of a localized light source (so gameplay at night will now be similar to daytime and more about the atmosphere).
  • New outdoor ambience sound when in night mode.
  • Added more night lighting to certain environment pieces (ex. rebel caches and exit signs).
SAR Tonight Episode 3 Clip Submissions



Clip submissions are officially open for the next episode of Super Animal Royale Tonight! Make sure to check the form attached for all the details.

Clip requirements:
  • 1080p+, 30fps+, less than 30s
  • Please only submit up to 3 Blooper Scooper clips and 3 Superest Kills clips maximum.
  • Please only submit clips with the new in-game UI (guns laid out horizontally in the bottom right).
  • Please do not submit any clips with copyrighted music.
Tips for getting selected:
  • 16:9 aspect ratio preferred.
  • Shorter clips are preferred, but please try to leave at least 2-3 seconds on either side of where you think the best action is, so we have flexibility with the edit. If a clip is cut too abruptly it may be unusable.
  • Visual clarity is key. If it is hard to follow the action, a clip is less likely to be selected.
  • Reactions can make clips particularly great, so streamer overlays / facecams are good as long as they're high quality and don't distract too much from the clip.

Gameplay & Challenges
  • Added two milestones for team healing. The rewards are a syringe and doctor's outfit.
  • Added mushrooms to the forests around the island. They are typically found near pine trees and rocks, and munching one provides +5 health, similar to coconuts.
  • Changed weekly challenge for Dogna's Dart Gun kills to be damage instead of kills.
  • Replaced "Survive in Skunk Gas" weekly challenge with a munch mushrooms challenge.
  • Added a daily challenge to munch mushrooms as well.
  • Break explosive barrels weekly challenge changed from 75 to 30 barrels.

Weapon Balancing
  • Added 0.02s click buffer when shooting non-automatic weapons. This allows for more regular timing of breakpoints and less gun jamming.
  • AK damage up-close changed from 35/37/39 to 33/35/37, and damage at max range changed from 25/28/31 to 23/26/29.
  • M16 damage up-close changed from 38/40 to 37/39, and damage at max range changed from 31/33 to 30/32.
  • Dogna's Dart Gun reload time reduced to 1.4s from 1.7s.
  • Grenades are now audible from further, and use a custom sound when heard at further ranges.
Fixes
  • Fixed stretched arms bug on parachute landing and with the Silenced Pistol.
  • Fixed compression artifacts on the Dynasty Helmet.
  • Fixed some cosmetic layering issues with the eye patch.
  • Fixed the fez icon.
  • Added an error message when the shop fails to load.

The Year of the Super Ox is here! The Super Beavers have replaced the Super Rat statue with a Super Ox statue in Bamboo resort and scattered Red Envelopes around the island for the celebrations. Trade them in for exclusive items in the Lunar New Year Shop.

We've also added the long requested ability to dual wield pistols! Just pick up a second pistol while holding a single pistol, and they'll automatically craft into Dual Pistols. Read the full patch notes below for all the details!

Dual Pistols



John Lick is here with all the math you need to calculate the type of Dual Pistols you'll get when you pick up a second pistol (while holding your first one) to automatically craft them into Dual Pistols.

  • Two Pistols craft into Dual Pistols at the higher rarity of the two.
  • Damage and bullet speed matches the Pistol (at the equivalent rarity), but clip size is increased to 20 and reloading takes a bit longer (1.3s).
  • New set of milestones and skins are also available to collect for the Dual Pistols.
  • Excellent for slow-mo montages.

Loot Adjustments
  • Rebel Caches can now drop epic weapons. This should make opening them more exciting and rewarding.
  • Hidden rooms such as the Farm Rebel HQ, Sphinx, Super Stage piano, and Pyramid lab now have a guaranteed rare or higher weapon spawn (up to epic).
  • Epic weapons no longer spawn randomly in the world, aside from the epic pistol and in the aforementioned rooms. This change helps balance the rate with which epics were previously being found (ie easily spotted from the eagle).
Additional Cosmetic Item Changes
  • The bamboo stick has been moved to Carl's Cart. It was previously a Legacy Lunar New Year item.
  • The Duos Day rose will be returning from Feb 12th 5pm PST to Feb 16th 5pm PST. Just play a Duos match to earn it!
Bamboo Resort
  • Year of the Super Rat statue has been replaced by a new Year of the Super Ox statue.
  • New Super Ox photo on the wall alongside the Super Rat and Super Pig from previous years.
  • Community member Atuin (牛棚大師) has written a brand new Lunar New Year couplet for the front gates of Bamboo Resort! In English, it translates roughly to: Calves are young and strong, swamps and rain forests are magnificent and beautiful. / Once familiar land now gains a new look and feelings, thousands of animals are rejoicing. / Travel the world like a herd of cattle running on grassland, full of life.
Other Changes
  • Adjusted uncommon AK and rare AK bullet speeds to be 180 and 188 (previously were 184 and 196).
  • Adjusted epic M16 and legendary M16 bullet speeds to be 196 and 204 (previously were 221 and 233).
  • Emoting in lobbies no longer has player collisions.
  • Hamster ball audio range increased from 140 to 160 units.
  • Reduced brightness on poison skunk gas slightly.
  • The Sniper and Dogna's Dart Gun now snap their aim instantly after reloading. This should reduce the issue of shooting after reloading, where the gun is still sideways from the animation.
  • Fixed a few spots on the map where players would get stuck.
  • Fixed a bug where Carl's Cart sometimes displayed template items.
  • Adjusted texture size and number of particles for Skunk Bombs.
  • Lobby timer will jump to 60s remaining if 32+ players join a match (if the time remaining is currently longer). This change was made to reduce time spent in lobbies slightly.
Private Matches Beta
  • Added /hamball command which will spawn a hamster ball during a match. A limited number of them can be added total.
  • Added /juice and /tape commands to spawn health juice and super tape respectively.
  • Fixed a bug where the admin spectating wouldn't see utility items update when swapping between players.

Happy New Year, Super Animals! The team is back from the holidays and hard at work on the next big update for February, but we wanted to give you a little something fun to tide you over until then.

Super Seal Joins the Fight
Super Seals and 3 additional breeds are now available to create at level 50 in the Research Lab:
  • Super Seal
  • Super Seal Pup
  • Super Sealion
  • Super Walrus
We're also making some improvements to the process of discovering new Super Animals:
  • Once you reach the required level to unlock new Super Animals, you'll be guaranteed to get an undiscovered animal's DNA as your next DNA drop (previously it was 25% chance to get the new animal DNA).
  • Note: DNA magnets still take precedence over undiscovered DNA until they're used up, but once your magnet's effect wears off, the undiscovered DNA will be guaranteed to drop at that point.
  • The Research Lab will also now display an exclamation mark when you get new animal DNA for the first time.
Other Changes
  • Magnum and Deagle now have 3 shots under fixed recoil pattern (previously was 2 before going into random recoil).
  • Slipping on a banana will slide the player back to the actual server-side slip location, which fixes a hit registration issue.
  • Floss and wave emotes have been revamped to fix some occasional glitches that they tended to introduce alongside new animals/cosmetics.
  • Since the high ping mode threshold is at 250ms for now, we've added back the old high ping check on bullet hits (if a player is above 150 ping, the server will check if the person they shot is behind a wall currently, and if so then apply 50% damage reduction).
  • Fixed compression artifacts on the Stacked Hats.

We’ve also decided to extend the codes BIRTHDAY2020, CRISPRMAS, and NEWYEAR until this Sunday, January 17th to make sure you all have one last chance to get your paws on the cosmetics before they go away! See you all on the island, Super Animals.

  • The “Eternal” right wing holds the museum's permanent collection of Super Animal Art, where you can see classics such as Vincent van Goat's Self Portrait, Rodint's The Stinker, and Pablo Pigasso's Three Moosicians amongst many others. You can not, unfortunately, see Leonardo DaFinchi's famous Mona Fleasa, as it has been missing ever since what legal only allows us to refer to as "The Incident."
  • The Chewffizi Cafe, named after the famous museum in Florence, features an Italian Renaissance theme, and one large, controversial painting: The Birth of Emus, by Sandro Goaticelli.
  • Once your visit to the museum is complete, you can visit the gift shop, "Exit This Way Only." The conspicuously named gift shop is, indeed, on the way out the door, but it’s not the only way. When asked about the misleading message, the park’s merchandise department has insisted, “we’re not suggesting that’s the only way to exit, that’s just what we decided to name the shop.”
  • SMOMA is on the plot of land previously occupied by the CRISPR Cafe, so it has been re-located to the west of the Super Animal Super Stage (added in our previous update).

Weapon Upgrade: Dogna's Dart Gun


  • The Poison Dart Gun has been renamed "Dogna's Dart Gun" and features an updated design to match its new secondary function: hitting teammates with a dart will heal them for 24 health over 2.0s.
  • If an ally is at full health, the dart will pass through them so that it can continue onward to potentially hit an enemy (to avoid annoying body blocking).
  • Healing from the darts does not stack (rapid hits only resets the timer).
  • Healing downed players is 50% effective, to match the reduced damage that they take.
  • Healing allies within skunk gas is also 50% less effective.
  • Shooting an enemy damages them for 10hp and adds a poison effect (unchanged effect).
  • Teammates now display health bars above their heads so it’s easier to tell which allies need help with healing.
  • A team healing stat has been added to the Stats screen.
  • The upgraded Dogna’s Dart Gun is designed to open up more ability for players who want to play a support role, which is especially fun in the S.A.W. vs Rebellion (32v32) mode.

S.A.W. vs Rebellion (32v32) Mode Returns With Changes
  • We felt that we had too many buffs from flag captures that were hard to keep track of and understand when the primary goal of capturing flags was to win, so we’ve made some changes:
  • The healing buff from capturing flags is now just local to the immediate surroundings around the flag, represented by a green circle around the flag. When you're inside the circle, you'll heal +4 health per second, however the regeneration does not apply to flags covered by skunk gas.
  • We’ve removed the flag buff on moving faster while knocked down and instead just raised the speed of moving while knocked down in general by 25% for everyone in this mode.
  • The victory timer is no longer halved when a team captures 4 flags. It was leading to matches ending too quickly, and the 3-flag timer already provides an accelerated end to the match.
  • Removed the rebel flag environment piece from the farm so it doesn't cause confusion with the actual flag (just in this mode).
  • Teammate's bananas won't affect you while capturing the flag and for 1s after capturing it.
  • When a squad dies early but their overall team wins later, that squad will get the win stat counted when the match ends. This only affects stats and not experience or rewards retroactively.
  • The limited-time mode will be available for the duration of the CRISPRmas event (until January 10th)!
  • We're activating all 4 modes simultaneously on NA and AS servers due to the growth in player population to support it! EU server is still a bit less populated, so to avoid splitting the player population too much, we're rotating Squads mode out temporarily in that region while 32v32 is active.

Additional v0.96.5 Improvements
  • Added some boxes/cover to the Super Stage biome, and adjusted some stage elements to improve gameplay.
  • Added more lighting to the environment during night mode (Superite crystals, stage poster walls, and others).
  • AK recoil while moving changed from +14% to +21%.

The show has continued to expand in scope over time, so if you want to save time you can safely skip straight to episode 3 and not miss much storytelling (although the pilot episode really highlights how much the production of the show has evolved).

Note: "Season 2" in this context just refers to our SAR Tonight animated series, so there's no changes to the new Early Access Season 0 of the Animal Pass that we released 2 weeks ago. The Early Access Season of the Animal Pass will continue until the end of Early Access, which is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2021!

Update Highlights
Map Update
  • A major new point of interest has been added to Super Animal Island! Visit the Super Animal Super Stage just north of the Welcome Center, next to Giant Eagle Landing.
  • Just like all points of interest in SAR, the theater holds secrets about Super Animal World's past, and the building is surrounded by gardens, a construction site, and a courtyard with water fountains.
  • West S.A.W. Villas have been removed to make way for the new building and complete the highway. We plan to overhaul the villas in the future to better connect them to SAR's backstory as they're one of the oldest points of interest in the game.

Super Pigeon and Super Possum have arrived at the Research Lab! Play matches to earn their respective DNA, with the pigeon DNA beginning to drop at level 10 and possum DNA beginning at level 50.

  • The Howloween event has concluded and has been removed from the main menu. You can look forward to CRISPRmas starting in 2 weeks!
  • Exclamation marks on the Milestones screen will now only show if you can claim an item. This fixes the issue for users being unable to clear exclamation marks for locked milestones.
  • Fixed Animal Pass level on main menu displaying wrong number (off by one).
Cosmetic Changes
  • Pinwheel melee weapon now animates.
  • The hockey mask and Howl mask now display over top of hats.
  • Adjusted some animals' glasses/masks position (rat, capybara, hippo).
  • Fixed the Desert Goggles on penguins.

Game Updates
  • Added some more night lighting to the map: Welcome Center flag poles, Super Milk Bar sign, and the Lab To Table sign. The new Super Animal Super Stage also has lights for its popcorn machine and stage.
  • Adjusted many of the weapon reload sounds to better match the actual reload time.
  • Fixed bug with Skunk Vial where player speed was incorrect.
  • Expanded server-side hit registry rollback, to hopefully fix shots not being registered.
  • High ping mode now activates if the last 3 pings were above the threshold (rather than on individual spikes). Also adjusted the duration to 10s rather than 15s. Note: these changes mostly affect players whose temporary ping spike would push them into high ping mode.
  • Increased collision height on tall concrete walls (affects throwables).

Game Mode Rotations



We're now 1 week into our S.A.W. vs Rebellion (32v32) limited-time mode, and have one week left to go! The new mode will be available until our next update on Thursday, December 3rd at which point we'll be back to our regular roster of Solos, Duos and Squads modes.

To make the second week of the limited-time mode a bit more flexible for all you Squads fans, we're going to rotate Squads back in and Duos out temporarily for the NA and AS servers. Any Duos diehards will still be able to play it this week on the EU server, which will remain the same as now with Solos/Duos/32v32, and then next week when the new update arrives on Thursday the limited-time mode will rotate out and all 3 regular modes will be active again!

We also debuted high ping mode in the previous update which kicks in at 200+ ping currently, but since more players might be playing on the EU server from outside the EU during this period we'll be raising it to 250+ ping temporarily.

For background on the decision to keep active modes to 3 for now: each mode supports up to 64 players, each new match lobby starts the game within 140s or less, and we have 3 regional servers, so each additional active mode takes a lot of players to fill. The game has been growing rapidly thanks to all of you, so we might be able to have 4 permanently in the rotation in the future, but for now we'll be testing our new modes as limited-time modes that temporarily replace classic modes.

The mode rotations weren't as clear as they could have been this time, so we'll be debuting a new mode selection UI in the next update that makes limited-time mode schedules clearer in the future. We're also continuing to experiment with new limited-time modes, so keep giving us all your feedback on what you want to see next (including if you want more 32v32 or variants of the mode)!

3 new Super Dog breeds arrive for the Super Major Update celebrations: Super Pitbull, Super Samoyed, and Super German Shepherd.

It’s finally here! We just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you who helped us test the new update in the PTR and also for being so patient these past months while we worked on all of this. The Super Major Update has been in development since July and we couldn’t be more excited to finally release it to you!

This update sets a new foundation for the months and years to come, and targets 3 critical areas of the game:
  • Better free version of SAR. We’re making the game accessible to more players with a free version that’s more generous and feature complete, while also offering new optional, purchasable cosmetic items. At the same time, we’re turning the current “full version” into the “Super Edition” which we’ll continue to add value to over time.
  • Progression system overhaul. We’re making big improvements here, reducing randomness, adding new ways to earn items, and expanding/improving popular features like Super Milestones.
  • Major gameplay additions and improvements. We’re beginning to experiment with new gameplay modes to keep things fresh and fun for longterm players (us included!), starting with the new S.A.W. vs Rebellion 32v32 mode.
This is only the beginning of this new phase of SAR, and we still have lots of UI and menus to keep improving, modes to experiment with and more. So we want to hear all your feedback so we can keep preparing SAR for the best possible v1.0 debut when it leaves Early Access in early 2021!

We're also super excited to let you all know that we've partnered with Modus Games, an awesome game publisher that specializes in helping indie studios like Pixile. This will allow us to be even more laser focused on the creative side of SAR while Modus supports us with marketing and more in the background. Pixile itself is now up to 11 team members and the partnership so far is already enabling us to expand our ambitions for where we can take the game next!

Super Major Update Highlights

New S.A.W. vs Rebellion (32v32) game mode



The new S.A.W. vs Rebellion squads game mode temporarily replaces the traditional Squads battle royale mode for a limited time! Win the match by joining a team of 32 and either capturing 3/4 or more flags or eliminating the entire enemy team of 32 players. Captured flags also provide bonus experience, a health regeneration buff, and increased movement speed while downed.

Since the final PTR phase concluded we've continued to improve the mode:
  • Squad and Team chat are now separate in the S.A.W. vs Rebellion mode (just hit tab one more time to switch between them).
  • Added new flag layouts around the map, for more variety each time you play.
  • 3-flag victory timer is now 60s, but beginning to capture an enemy flag will pause the timer.
  • Bots will now capture flags.
  • Character always faces the flag when capturing it.
  • You can now ping the flags to prompt your teammates to help capture or defend them.
Super Howloween Extended
Since we expect many of you might be returning to SAR for the big update and could have missed Howloween, we're extending the event until the end of the day (11:59pm PST) on Sunday, November 22nd. After that, candy corn will stop dropping, but you'll have one more week to redeem it for Howloween items before it expires. We also moved two of last year’s Howloween items to Carl’s Cart: the Banana Costume and Pirate’s Cutlass (now no longer event items).

SAR Goes Super Free
Okay, SAR being free isn’t really fully new. As you know, we’ve had the Super Free Edition pretty much since we released SAR into Early Access, but it was set up as a Steam demo, so free users couldn't use Steam parties / friends list. Now they can!
  • Now that the base game is free, the Steam friends list works for everyone, so it's easier than ever to invite your friends to play!
  • The full version of the game is being replaced by the Super Edition, and on top of everything you're used to, it now also includes 4 exclusive Super Animal breeds, 10 exclusive cosmetic items and some Super Perks relating to some of SAR's new progression systems.
  • In addition to getting a copy of the new Super Edition DLC, we've also given every player who owns the full game a bonus 300 S.A.W. Tickets (on top of the 1000 S.A.W. Tickets included in the Super Edition) as thanks for being our earliest supporters!
As long as you've launched the full version of the game at least once before the update goes live (so that an account was auto-created for you), you'll receive the 300 bonus S.A.W. Tickets. We think you’ll love what the new Super Edition adds to the game, but if you have ideas that you think can make it even better just let us know!

S.A.W. Shop
Visit Super Macaw, Ms. Macawsome in the S.A.W. Shop to browse fine new cosmetic items from Super Animal World! Improvements to the S.A.W. Shop from the PTR include:
  • Prices on S.A.W. Shop items have been reduced overall based on your feedback, and shop items have been adjusted.
  • S.A.W. Tickets now have localized pricing using Steam Wallet. If your region benefits from the new pricing, your account has been credited for the extra S.A.W. Tickets!
  • We've added a Starter pack DLC for Season 0, which provides 600 S.A.W. Tickets, an exclusive Twilight Fennec breed, Twilight Newsboy Hat and Twilight Overalls.



Super Animal Pass
Super Animal Pass Season 0 has begun!
  • Some rewards can be earned for free, but others will require purchasing the pass for 550 S.A.W. Tickets.
  • The Season 0 Animal Pass has 49 tiers to progress through, so it's a great way to use some of the tickets that come with the Super Edition.
  • It also has 350 S.A.W. Tickets to earn if you complete it!
We intended the Early Access season to be a good starter size for a low ticket price, but also plan to design larger Animal Passes in the future, with ticket prices based on how many tiers they include. We've also really liked all the feedback and ideas you've given us on archived/timeless Animal Pass seasons, so we're looking into possible design options for those, and as we get closer to v1.0 and the next season we'll share our plans with you!


Revamped Menus and New NPCs to Meet!
  • Cackling Carl's Cart is open for business! The majority of the endgame Delivery Mole items are being moved into this new rotating shop. This has been a popular request from all of you as a way to reduce the randomness of earning items, so we think you'll like it!
  • Items in Carl's Cart can only be purchased using Carl Coins which is a new currency that can only be earned through playing (no ability to purchase it).
  • The main menu has been overhauled with a new interface and new scenery. The new menus are set in the Giant Eagle Airlines terminal, and come complete with NPCs operating each of the services.
  • We're still working on even more improvements to the menus and characters, including improvements for the profile screen, settings, a redesigned end-game rewards screen and more.
More Progression System Improvements
  • Weekly challenges have been added (and most are unique, new categories of challenges). All challenges now provide EXP rather than items, which contribute to earning tiers in your Animal Pass and leveling up your account (which also rewards items, super serum and magnets). Re-rolling has been removed since the reward is no longer random.
  • The end-game mole loot drop has been removed, and most of those items have been moved into Carl's Cart. However, 69 of the items will remain as random drops and end-game, awarded upon leveling up.
  • Any duplicate cosmetic item drops will be automatically converted into Carl Coins.
  • Item trade-up has been removed, as duplicate items are now automatically converted into Carl Coins. Existing duplicate items will be converted into Carl Coins over the next 24 hours.
  • Super Serum rewards after matches are no longer random, instead 0.45 Super Serum is rewarded per minute survived (rounded). If you get more than one kill in the match, you'll be rewarded with 1 bonus Super Serum.
  • Super Serum reward for leveling up has been increased from 3 to 5.
  • Daily and Weekly Challenges will now show up in-game in the Paws Menu.
  • Milestones are now claimed in the redesigned milestones tab rather than automatically granted at end-game.
Gameplay Improvements
  • Added Rebel Caches that can be found around the map. When opened, they will drop a rare or epic weapon or level 3 armor, as well as some Super Tape or Health Juice.
  • Added animated damage numbers when you hit an enemy, including armor hits and poison damage. They can be toggled on or off in settings.
  • Player collisions have been added (does not apply to teammates). You will collide with emus and hamster balls while on foot as well.
  • High ping mode added: if your ping is above 200, then your hamster ball hits and gun bullets will use server-side hit detection. This makes the overall combat experience fairer for players, but means high ping players will need to lead shots (and hamster ball squashes). Previous high-ping mechanisms like damage reduction have been removed in favor of this.
  • Minimap fades when mousing over it.
  • Player markers on the map & minimap now face the direction that the player is looking.
  • Can now ping campfires, coconuts, mole crates, and rebel caches.
  • "Sparrow hits in one match" milestone objectives changed to 5/10/20 from 5/15/25.
  • Creep zoom is maintained during creep roll. Players can no longer creep zoom on Giant Emus or in hamster balls.
  • Added a 0.25s block on shooting after exiting a Hamster Ball (matches the same block on exiting Emus).
  • Pressing reload while holding a charged bow will cancel the charge.
  • Super Skunk Vial changed to now increase movement speed in the skunk gas and skunk bombs by 25%, and reduce their damage by 10% rather than applying poison damage to melee attacks.
  • Downed players can now eat nearby bananas for health if they have a Banana Forker equipped.
  • Bots will occasionally pick up level 1 armor.
  • The Shotgun, JAG-7, Pistol, and SMG had their bullet range reduced since they were stripping armor too easily at long ranges.
  • Bow & Sparrow as well as the Sparrow Launcher received a significant damage buff.
  • The Magnum breaks 2 ticks now, but has had clip size reduced to 6.
  • Max carried grenades is now 4.
Changes Made After the Final PTR
  • Added two new animal beanies to Carl’s Cart: Super Cat Beanie and Super Dog Beanie.
  • Updated NPC characters in the new main menu.
  • Added new scenes in the main menu and improved existing scenes.
  • Stats screen is accessible from the side menu for now until we add the new profile menu.
  • Stats screen has a tab for weapon kills now.
  • Fixed controller navigation on Customize to be more like the pre-PTR one.
  • Gravestones will now preview in the main menu.
  • Milestones tab now has categories and shows total completed.
  • Customize tab will now show exclamation marks on individual new items and on gun skin tabs as well.
  • Night mode is a bit more common (now 9%, up from 5% chance) and now has more environmental lighting (such as on campfires).
  • Added some crates back to the map such as in the desert town.
  • Weapon recoil is non-random for the first few shots in a spray, but then becomes random after that. Automatic weapons such as the SMG or AK have 8 shots as non-random, but others like the Magnum or Deagle have 2. The Sniper goes random after its first shot, similar to its current version.
  • You can now hold down the shoot button with Sparrow Launcher (ie automatic firing).
  • Player collisions improved so there's less sticking/walking through people.
  • Damage numbers for poison from the Poison Dart Gun require line of sight.
  • Shooting Gallery targets will show damage numbers when hit.
  • New sound for bunny hop/perfect rolls.
  • Hopefully fixed the visual bug where a player was shooting with their melee weapon out. Will continue to monitor this issue.
  • Huge change that drastically alters SAR's metagame: fixed "pickup" text to be "pick up".
  • We buffed Shotgun range a slight bit (brought gray closer to blue too) since it felt a bit underwhelming during PTR. Overall still shorter range than the previous Shotgun though.

The Super Edition DLC arrives next week for $14.99 USD (pricing will be localized regionally based on Steam's standardized pricing). Super Animal Pass



The new Early Access (Season 0) Super Animal Pass arrives alongside the major update, with 49 tiers to earn!

It costs 550 S.A.W. Tickets to unlock and has 350 S.A.W. Tickets to earn in it, so if you use your Super Edition Tickets to unlock the pass you'll still have a bunch leftover to shop in the new S.A.W. Shop (premium cosmetic item shop). It also has 4000 Carl Coins to earn in it that you can use at Cackling Carl's Cart (earned cosmetic item shop) and 170 Super Serum for your Super Animal creation needs!

We plan to create even bigger Animal Passes for future seasons, with more tiers at slightly higher S.A.W. Ticket prices, but we think this first one should be a great size and value for Early Access. Season 0 will last for the remainder of Early Access, which is scheduled to end in early 2021 when the game hits v1.0!

Starter Pack DLC



We're also introducing a new Starter Pack DLC for Season 0 that includes a limited edition Super Animal breed, 2 cosmetic items and 100 bonus S.A.W. Tickets on top of the standard 500 (for a total of 600 S.A.W. Tickets). This pack will be available until the end of Season 0 (which ends at the end of Early Access in early 2021).

The changes to the game do not affect the Founder's Edition DLC at all, and it will continue to be available until the end of Early Access, at which point all the items in it will be exclusive to those who supported us by purchasing it in Early Access!

Super Major Update

There's so much new to the game in this update including the new S.A.W. vs Rebellion 32v32 mode, revamped progression system, fully re-designed menus, improved UI, balancing changes and we've already covered the majority of it in our previous posts about the PTR, so we won't rehash it here, but we're extremely excited to finally bring it to all of you!

Super Animal Royale - Michael | Pixile


Night has fallen in Super Animal World. The moon is out, the graveyard is stirring, and Howloween has begun! October 31st is the anniversary of the day Super Animal Royale Tonight host Howl Michaels first stepped out of his fermentation tank and into our hearts. In celebration, the Super Animals have set up halloween decorations and scattered Candy Corn around the island that you can redeem for your very own costumes!

Three super spooky new animal breeds also arrive in the research lab:
  • Super Candycorn Ferret
  • Super Zombie Tiger (inspired by Community Member & Super Artist Piers)
  • Super Dracula Parrot
Don't forget to also rock your best costumes on last year's Howloween Super Animal breeds! The Super Skelecat, Super Pumpkin Panda, Super Werewolf and Super Vampire Bat are all still available to create in the Research Lab as well.

Night has fallen and Howloween decorations are set up!



When the event begins, there will be a 25% chance that each match you play takes place at night! At night, your vision becomes directional with a flashlight beam letting you see what is in front of you, while objects behind you become shrouded in shadow.

On the 31st, the chance for night time will rise to 50% and then in November it’ll drop to a rare occurrence.

Outside of the new night mode, Howloween decorations also include:
  • The Welcome Center fountain dressed up in its Howloween best, with spooky music and orange lighting during night mode.
  • Jack-o-lanterns placed around the Welcome Center.
  • Spectator ghosts now haunt the graves of fallen Super Animals.
  • The delivery mole has his own impressive, definitely-not-real zombie costume.

Major Update Coming Soon
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us test and provided feedback on our major new update in the PTR. We need a bit more time to polish up all the final details before it's ready to release, so we're delaying the full update into November, but will have more details on the new release date very soon and are racing to get it ready for release before the Halloween event is complete if we can pull it off! We'll post all of the details here when they're ready.
