It is almost time for CryoFall to leave Early Access (the release date is set for 29th of April and we will share detailed information about it separately in a few days!), so this final update before the official release is meant to offer one last round finishing touches and add all of the small features we absolutely wanted to have in the game before release
So, let's dive in and see what we have to offer this time!
The first thing you will probably notice when joining the game now is the addition of the so-called Origin System. Now you can choose your character background and receive several small advantages to various areas based on what you selected.
Next, is the new mineral Keinite after which this new update is named. While the Pragmium is our energy-related mineral this new Keinite isn't so much a mineral, but rather an alien substance of biological origin! It's essential for exotic weapons which are also added in A30 Update. You will be able to create this new type of biological weapons in Tier 5.
Another massive addition is the Pragmium Power Plant. It will serve as the main source of energy for massive bases in the late game. This should allow you to focus on other interesting activities rather than worrying about maintaining your base's power supply. And while we are at it—we have also made solar panels significantly cheaper and rebalanced practically everything related to energy. This aspect of the game should be more rewarding and enjoyable now with much less grind (as long as you do the optimal things rather than trying to stubbornly use steam generators even in Tier 5! :) ).
Creatures A.I. and balance were also changed substantially. They are more aggressive and faster now and will react to your actions rather than just idly waiting their turn to be killed. But that's not all—now you can also encounter various mutated forms of existing creatures offering more variety to your hunting excursions. And yes, these mutations are caused by the new Keinite substance.
The faction system has also been reworked with new permissions and completely reworked the Leaderboard (faction score) system. This should offer much more interesting and varied competition for both PvP and PvE servers. UI of the faction screen has also been completely reworked.
Reworked events in A30 will also offer more opportunities to participate for all players, especially in PvE for bigger events such as world bosses (Pragmium Queen and Sand Tyrant). Certain events also offer better rewards (including newly introduced Keinite).
Some other key additions and changes this time
- Vehicle naming—set a custom name to your vehicle to easily distinguish it from other vehicles that you own! - A lot of existing items, world objects, minerals, characters, plants, props, etc. have been updated with new visuals to make them fit better with our current visual style and to bring their quality to our current standard - When you send drones to mine a mineral or cut a tree, they automatically reserve space in your inventory to prevent a situation where there is no more space for them to return - Keinite can be obtained from all event creatures and if using the new Keinite extractor from some regular creatures and mutants - Reworked implants balance and crafting costs plus added an additional new implant - And as always - dozens of new items, structures, technologies, status effects, and more!
Official servers wipe
This time all official PvP servers are wiped. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update! PvE servers are NOT affected and you can continue playing with your existing characters after the wipe.
Legacy support
As usual, we make a legacy branch for the previous (A29) version client available if you intend to keep using it on a community or a private server. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-a29" branch.
Don't forget to join our Discord server to be aware of all the news and updates. We post a lot of upcoming content, features, and other interesting things there regularly and you can chat with us directly if you have any feedback: https://discordapp.com/invite/cryofall
We are happy to announce that the A30 "Keinite Update" is coming tomorrow (16th of April). Normally, we try to do an announcement at least a week in advance, but this time unfortunately this was delayed due to third parties taking longer than anticipated—notably localization. But thankfully the update is now ready for release!
As usual, we will post detailed information about the update and the patch notes when the update launches.
Launch date: 16th of April, 1 PM by GMT/UTC time.
For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have: • 8 AM by Central US (CDT, GMT-5 summer time) • 3 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+2 summer time) • 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3) • 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8) • 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3) • 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)
All official PvP servers will be wiped as usual (also, two popular community servers CryoSmall and CryoFive will wipe simultaneously!). No wipe for official PvE servers, the progress is transferred to the updated version (some faction score metrics will be reset as we've changed how they're counted).
As usual, we will provide a legacy branch for the previous (A29) client version if you intend to keep playing with it on a community or a private server that is not updated to A30.
We're getting very close to the A30 Update release! Stay tuned for the announcements. This patch makes some final improvements and brings A30 localization (work in progress). If you're playing on the experimental server and using a non-English version, please let us know if you find any translation issues.
Patch notes:
Changes: - Integrated localization to all the supported languages except Russian and Turkish (work in progress) - When dropping an item on the ground by pointing on a tile too far away or that has obstacles, the item will be dropped in the closest available tile to the character - Faction leave cooldown: When leaving a faction, you can join another faction or create a new faction after just 6 hours now, but you cannot return to the faction that you left earlier than 24 hours - Added weapon ready cooldown when entering a mech (1 second, same as most ranged weapons). Doesn't apply to hoverboards (as the weapon is not changed when entering it)
Server rates config improvements: - By a popular request—added new server rate setting "ItemStackSizeMultiplier"—multiplier to adjust the item stack size (useful for high rates servers but will inevitably affect power generation balance as well as PvP balance and other aspects of the game) - New "WorldEventDelayMultiplier" allows adjusting when certain world events (like boss spawn) should start on the server after the world creation/wipe - Confusing "PvE" setting was replaced with "PvP" setting (to make your server PvP just set it to 1)
Fixes: - Dropping items on the ground sometimes fired the active weapon/used the active item from the hotbar - Deconstruction tooltip was displayed for ruin doors when crowbar is selected - "Leave faction" button was overlapping with other UI elements - 10mm and .300 cal ammo listed turrets in their compatible weapons list
If you have not tried the experimental version yet, please consider joining one of the experimental servers and help us improve the game!
Patch notes:
Changes: - PvP: Energy turrets rebalanced—decreased HP and explosion damage resistance (higher damage from grenades), increased power consumption - PvE: Reduced durability cost of relocating floor with the toolbox - Improved server savegame compatibility to ensure a smooth migration from the A29 version's savegame - Reduced the amount of pragmium received from the boss loot (Pragmium Queen) - Local server default rates changed: boss events will start after 10 hours of gameplay and happen x2 more often (adjustable by editing ServerRates.config as usual) - Replaced outdated ambient occlusion video option with an optimized approach (the previous option barely affected the game visuals and we found a more optimized approach to achieve similar results and also make it available for everyone instead of opt-in) - Factions list: improved sort order (e.g. when sorting by member number/level and two or more factions have the same number/level)
Fixes: - Outer Rim Protectorate origin didn't provide the mining speed bonus when mining with drones - PvP: ally raiding notification was sent to all players coming online even if they're not in alliance with the raided base's owner faction - Current action timer (yellow circle, e.g. when refueling an item) overlapped with the current character's nickname/healthbar when "Show healthbar over my character" option enabled
If you have not tried the experimental version yet, please consider joining one of the experimental servers and help us improve the game!
Patch notes:
Exotic weapons changes: - Exotic weapons no longer require plastic to craft, instead they require toxin (for Toxin proliferator) and slime (for Swarm launcher). - Swarm launcher is more durable now. - Toxin proliferator now has a higher range (essentially becoming a sniper rifle) and adds a higher toxin effect. So it should be a good alternative support-weapon in PvP.
Changes: - Negative stat modifiers will appear in red in status effect tooltips and character origin selection. - Food/water consumption speed renamed to Hunger/Thirst rate to make it clear that these are debuffs. - PvP: new raiding notifications for ally bases, including bases of your faction's members that didn't transfer their bases to faction ownership. Map marks are also added. - Rebalanced frag grenade—it now has a more reasonable radius and slightly higher damage, so it should be more useful in fights now. - Metal armor recipe was simplified to use steel instead of iron and flux. - Added mutants to all ruins to make a monster selection there more varied. - Increased (x2) the number of input and output slots for the water pump and cistern. - Increased barrel and cistern speed when adding/removing liquids. - Added blue outline for a construction site when the mouse cursor is over. - Added green outline when selecting a structure for relocation. - Reworked door access editor to make option "opens to everyone" separate from other options (for both faction-controlled and regular doors). - Increased deconstruction speed with a crowbar. - Adjusted icon plate positions for crates, armored safe, fridges, and freezer to make them visible when placed behind the walls.
We're happy to announce that the first patch to the experimental A30 version is out! If you have not tried the experimental version yet, please consider joining one of the experimental servers and help us improve the game.
Patch notes:
Changes: - Industrial drones: drones will temporarily reserve their previously occupied slots so you will never drop returning drones due to lack of free space in the inventory and hotbar. - Boss event start delay: 20 minutes boss spawn timer on PvE servers, no delay on PvP servers. - Adjusted the crafting recipe requirements of solar panels. - Reduced the lifetime duration of the reactor fuel rod. - Increased pragmium reactor psi emission. - Decreased unrefined keinite drop from black beetle and burrower. - Base lights auto active time changed (now from 20:00 to 7:00). - PvP: Click on newbie protection notification will open the Social menu. - Updated art for cliffs (both types), cliff render mask, road slopes (up and down). - Crafting: Now you don't need to remove equipped items if they need to be used for crafting (e.g. braided helmet with oil lamp recipe).
Fixes: - Chat was not closed when clicking on the menu buttons/hotbar/other UI elements. - The respawn UI input was blocked if the chat was opened during the character's death. - Dropped drone will provide a "dropped items" map mark and notification (though you're unlikely to see it now unless you manually remove the reserved slots for returning drones and you have no space in the inventory). - Biomaterial collector: When there is not enough space in the inventory, a full biomaterial vial will drop on the ground and a notification will be shown. - Learning skill was progressing incorrectly fast on servers with high LP rates (like the A30 experimental servers). - "Use oil lamp" quest task was not finishing immediately on lamp use. This task will be also satisfied when using a lamp installed into the braided helmet.
Two A30 Experimental servers are launching this Friday (March 19th) at 1 PM by GMT/UTC time. You can expect new content and plenty of great improvements (for more details see the #upcoming-features in our Discord). This time, the experimental servers will have much higher rates (such as resource gathering and LP/XP rates) than usual to help us test the new end-game content such as pragmium power plant and exotic weapons. If you want to help us testing the update before it goes live, please consider joining the experimental servers!
A29 Official PvP servers wipe
We would like to remind you that all the Official PvP servers have a scheduled wipe this Friday (March 19th, wiping every 4 weeks).
Wipe time: 1 PM by GMT/UTC time (as usual). For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have: • 8 AM by Central US (CDT, GMT-5 summer time) • 2 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+1 winter time) • 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3) • 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8) • 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3) • 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)
Official PvP servers setting changes
With this wipe, there will be the following changes: • Global Clan Wars server will have a lower limit on private faction size—20 players max. Please note: other official PvP servers already have a limit of 10 players for private factions. • PvP damage multiplier restored (how it was in A28 version) to x0.5 instead of x0.4. In A30 version, lower PvP damage resulted in harder-to-win fights when you're outnumbered (as your opponents have more time to regroup and heal) and also more grind to craft ammo.
Winners on Official Global Clan Wars server
As the current wipe cycle on Global Clan Wars draws to an end we can now announce first-ever winners on this server in the faction leaderboard!
[RECT] — 8284
[MECH] — 2154
[XIII] — 1446
[NATO] — 1262
[PN] — 1216
CryoSmall wipe
The popular community server CryoSmall had a wipe last Saturday and it's not too late to join it now! This server has moderation to enforce the rules of no-alliances so nobody can play there in the larger team than permitted (up to 2 players per team). By the way, if you're looking for a moderated server allowing teams up to 5 players, CryoFive server will hold a wipe on 27th March.
This is just a service patch—nothing has changed but the game binaries were rebuilt. We've finally acquired a Code Signing certificate from Sectigo. It should prevent problems with false-positive detection by antivirus software that are using machine-learning to guess whether the executable contains any similarities with known malware. Code sign will also prevent tampering of the game files. If you notice any issues, please let us know immediately.
Enjoy the game and stay tuned for A30 Update! Follow us on Official Discord server—we're posting upcoming content and features regularly!
We are happy to announce that we have just updated the CryoFall Supporter Pack!
As the game nears its release and gains more and more new features and content we are able to share more interesting art assets and miscellaneous thing within the Supporter Pack. This update brings additional concept art, high-resolution game art, and other goodies. If you have purchased the Supporter Pack previously—you can immediately access all of it. And if not—we would be very thankful if you can consider supporting the game with this little additional purchase.
The Supporter Pack doesn't provide any advantage in the game and is purely optional. It includes the game's complete soundtrack (now 7 tracks, total over 22 minutes long), concept art, high-resolution game art, chat badge, etc.
=== CryoFall v0.29.12.13 (A29 Patch #9/Experimental local server) ===
This patch brings a new experimental feature to which we want to hear your feedback. Local server runtime is now included and could be launched by the batch file right from the game folder. It makes it much easier to start a local game server for single-player use. The default server rates are also customized to make it more fitting for a single-player experience: x2 LP, x2 skill XP, x1.5 item gathering, no structure decay, bosses require only a single player to defeat (you can adjust all these rates by editing ServerRates.config file), 60 FPS tick rate. Running the local game server will require an extra 1 GB of free RAM and several % of a typical CPU's resources.
1. Navigate to the game folder (open Steam Client, right click on CryoFall -> "Manage" -> "Browse local files")
2. Double click on the "CryoFall Local Server" file. The console window for the local server will open and the server will start loading. Usually, it takes roughly a minute before the server is accessible (do not worry if it doesn't stop writing various information into the console—it's running properly and reports performance metrics). You may need to approve its access in Firewall if such a prompt will be displayed
3. Launch the game client as usual
4. Navigate to the "SERVERS" menu and open the "Custom" tab on the right side of the tabs bar (it has a distinctive "+" icon)
5. Connect to the "localhost" server (the first one in the list; it may take 1-2 minutes before it's accessible)
6. After you've finished playing, simply close the console window of the game server and it should automatically stop and save your progress (it also performs an autosave every hour same as multiplayer servers)
If you wish to edit the server settings or rates config, open the folder "<your Documents>\AtomicTorchStudio\CryoFall" (if it's empty please check the hidden folder "C:/Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/AppData/Local/AtomicTorchStudio/CryoFall") and edit these two files: SettingsServer.xml and ServerRates.config. Also, the savegame is stored in the Saves subfolder here. If you have any problem please reach us directly via email support@atomictorch.com so we can investigate the problem together and gather more feedback about this experimental feature!
Patch notes:
Changes: - Added local server runtime (experimental feature) - Improved deconstruction outline effect - Bioreactor interface improved with visual instructions on how to use it (similar to Mulchbox) - Faction chat tab will be displayed always above the party chat tab instead of being mixed with private chats
Fixes: - Assign faction role dialog was broken for Korean translation - Fixed a random issue when, due to high packet loss, the Medical Cooldown status effect was not properly removed after completion, preventing player from attacking and using more medicine for a while - Fixed incorrect deconstruction outline when playing in windowed mode - Fixed incorrect teleport effect when playing in a small window and during camera zoom animation
