Re:Legend - Newt

Within the woods that bears its namesake, the Wilker stands silently as the Guardian of the Forest Island. Known throughout history as a mild mannered and passive entity, many travel far to offer reverence towards the majestic Wilker. In recent years, the Wilker roams the woods less and less, and prefers the seclusion of the heart of the forest rather than the boisterous outer woods. Lucky adventurers will still bump into the Wilker and may receive its powerful blessing.

According to local legend, the Wilker is the Mother of all Trees, which birthed every variety of plant on Ethia. We know that the Forest is undoubtedly connected to the WIlker, but even until now we are unable to determine where the Wilker ends and the forest begins. Some believe that the entire forest is actually the Wilker and the entity we see is simply a manifestation of the Wilker’s will or power. I highly doubt this, as it is not consistent with the other Guardians of Ethia.

While certainly known to be mild and passive, there are stories that depict a fighting Wilker crushing those that intend to harm the Wilkwoods or its inhabitants. Personally I was able to catch a silhouette of what seemed to be a walking tree, though it vanished before I could get a good look. The infestation of thorns could not have come at a worst time, I would have to return to the Wilkwoods one day and speak to the Wilker myself.

Re:Legend - Newt

Lying across the Coastal beaches of Vokka, the Vales are truly an anomaly even when compared to other weird Magnus. Found mostly lying on their side, they seem to subsist mainly by picking of whatever they can find on the ground. Their distinct purple hue and passive nature makes them prime targets for other predators to feast upon, but the natural strength of the Vale’s tail generally deters such occurrences. They are one of the magnus that remarkably look like fish, but definitely do not have the ability to swim.

Metamorphosis of the Vale has stumped the researchers of the Library ever since their discovery. The fact that a fully piscine looking Valevale, will turn into the semi-humanoid Valemer or Valephyr still baffles the greatest minds of Ethia. Surprisingly the outer appearance of masculinity and femininity of the Valemer and Valephyr does not determine the gender of the creature. Female Valemers have been observed bearing young, to that I can attest to.

Despite the irregularity of the Vale’s evolution pattern, there is no cause for the people of Ethia to panic. Most of the Vale are passive in nature and do not bother travellers and onlookers, Valemers will only attack when one of their own is being assaulted, so I would suggest not poking a Vale (at least when a Valemer is around). To conclude the piece, there is no reason to worry about the Vale, unless there’s an ancient civilization that feared the Vale enough to carve a giant stone statue of a Valemer, but what are the odds of that.

Re:Legend - Newt

The tribal traditions of the Wilkwood natives may seem weird to most of us in the Library and perhaps even Ethia as a whole. If one would venture deep enough and find remote parts of the Wilkwoods, traces of the Old religion can still be found in carvings, murals and sometimes people. The Oriton is deeply tied to the tales of the Old Sky God, sometimes being portrayed as guardians and at other times destroyers.

The Old tradition thought of the Oriton as gifts from the Lightning Spirits that served the Sky God. The crystals that embed themselves into the Oriton’s body emit strong lightning power when used and making tools from it imbues it with powerful lightning energies. Many tales speak of the Gods calling upon the Oriton to be instruments of their will, but whether it be aid or harm, the Oritons terrible violence will end the tale with bloodshed.

Observation of the Oriton shows two distinct branches of physical maturity, one being the quadrupedal Ceraton and the bipedal Kiloton. Notable difference in the Oriton’s diet can be observed between the two, the ones that eventually become Ceratons can be seen munching on Silver ore while the other can be observed in shallow waters catching fish to eat. If the Old stories are anything to go by, it is best if one does not approach these ancient beast lest one wishes to incur their wrath.

Re:Legend - Newt

The coasts of Vokka are populated by a translucent, jelly-like Magnus known as the Blip. They are often seen floating sandy areas which are generally near the sea. Contact with them is usually uneventful as they are one of the most docile Magnus that you can find on Ethia. There is not much research being done on the Blip, apart from a particularly zealous librarian that I shall refrain from naming. The information below shall be from the writing of this librarian, therefore should be considered at best pure speculation.

Blips first appear to be herbivores, or at least vegetation is important for their bodily growth. With thorough testing, it appears that Blips can consume almost anything but whether it contributes any nutrition remains to be observed. The blip lacks any sort of defensive layer to protect against attacks, but the secret to their resilience would be an especially potent healing magic that closes wounds at an astounding rate.

As the Blips grow and mature, they would grow antennae at the top of their heads. It seems that this allows them to communicate with each other telepathically, thus forming somewhat of a hivemind among the blip population. This would explain their extremely defensive nature, as well as how they know when one of their brethren is being attacked at quite a distance away. I wonder if we can tap into the wavelength of their communication and join in on their collective. There is no magnus more magnificent than the illustrious Blips.

Re:Legend - Newt

The Magnus of the Wilkwoods are inexorably linked to the Forest itself, so much so that many of them are considered Forest Spirits by the locals and scholars alike. Duskels are unmistakably fauna, however interestingly they exhibit many properties of flora in its anatomy. Disregarding the leaves that grow on their chests as they mature, Duskels are able to collect energy from sunlight using the large yellow plates on their backs.

When it was first discovered that Duskels had this capability to absorb sunlight, scholars from the Library were quick to hypothesis what exactly was the use of such a feature. Was it to use as sustenance? Regulate body heat? Or maybe to fire giant lasers from their antlers? The answer came when on of the researchers accidentally scared a young duskel which prompted its older kin to step in and fire solar rays at the unfortunate Librarians.

Another interesting feature of the Duskel are the hard growths over the front of their face, which turned out to be part of its skeleton. The green film over their eyes allows it to have a better view in the dark and the hard bone like exterior allows it to headbutt with enormous strength. Library records of the Duskel are extensive and plentiful, mostly due to the massive curiosity over the back plate solar energy debate, and there was no need for further observation.

Re:Legend - Newt

Records of Magnus and their origins have been vague from the very beginning, the oldest records state that Magnus were created by the Goddess Aquila during the end of the Old War. When the Tree of Life was fragmented to save Ethia from its invaders, the Magnus sprang from the life energies of the broken splinters or so the records say. Magnus were born from the very land of Ethia itself, and this would explain why all of them exist as terrestrial creatures despite what convention would say.

The Moota is one such creature that baffles our scholars, with what seems to be a tail fin at its lower end and other piscine like feature around its body. The Moota exists exclusively on land despite this, and does not even venture close to water, consuming land vegetation for sustenance. The only thing that links them to water are the projectiles that they can conjure, deadly icicles that pierce through armor. This has caused scholars to speculate if the form of the magnus is simply elemental expression given life.

The Mootas of Vokka Island have considerable strength and aptitude in magic, but they generally don’t attack and remain passive towards goblins and newcomers. Speaking to the local people, Mootas provide a bounty of nutritious milk and tales of the most delicious Golden Milk certainly brings roaring jubilation to the crowd. It is nice to see Goblins, Humans and Magnus coexisting and being merry, it is certainly a nice diversion from the other ferocious and dangerous magnus.
