The second episode in The Fate of Atlantis, Assassin's Creed Odyssey's DLC inspired by the afterlife in Greek mythology, will be out on June 4, Ubisoft has announced.
The Fate of Atlantis - Torment of Hades will continue the story started by Fields of Elysium, which launched last month. The Steam reviews for the DLC are currently "very positive", suggesting it's worth considering if you enjoyed the base game. Torment of Hades is the second of three episodes planned for The Fate of Atlantis, and the third is due out "mid-2019".
Torment of Hades is, as you might have guessed, all about exploring the underworld, and you'll get to meet Hades himself. Ubisoft teased the environments in this gif yesterday: expect dusty plains, dead trees and enemies with strange, glowing markings.
There are two ways to start The Fate of Atlantis. The first involves completing the Between Two Worlds questline, along with the Heir of Memories and the Lost Tales of Greece questlines that follow, and having a character at level 28 or above. The second is a shortcut option that gives you a new level 52 hero to begin Heir of Memories, but it doesn't carry over your progress from the main campaign.
You can only buy The Fate of Atlantis as an entire package, but it's 50% off on Steam for the next few days, making it $12.50/£10.50.
This piece contains spoilers for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
The main quest of Assassin's Creed Odyssey isn't really about fighting an evil cult. It's not even about settling the fate of the Greek world, though, hey, if you're passing through why not sort that out yeah? Odyssey is a tale of family. Its title evokes the tale of Odysseus trying to return home, and so too is Kassandra. (Oh please, like I played as Alexios.) She's not headed for her literal home really, but rather to her family. Throughout the course of this journey you'll confront your step brother, your father, your actual brother, your mother and uh, your real dad. It's a whole thing. For me though, this isn't the family Kassandra cared about.
The game itself seems to want to push players towards an attempt to repair broken bonds. Forgive your father (he threw you off a cliff as child) and your brother (he's the prodigy of a war-mongering cult) and maybe make peace with your step brother (a blind Spartan nationalist hell bent on killing you at nearly every opportunity). Manage all that and keep your mother safe to be rewarded with a saccharine sweet happy ending where you sit down for dinner.
The Lost Tales of Greece are a steady stream of new missions for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and the next episode in the series will feature a hunt for an impostor who is posing as none other than you.
The story is called “A Really, Really Bad Day,” and it’s the ninth episode in the Lost Tales of Greece series. Someone in Lokris is pretending to be you, and is ruining your reputation in the process. Players will have to travel to village there and figure out who the impostor is. You’ll need to reach chapter five in the main story to open this quest.
The new Lost Tales episode will be available free to all players May 14. Also on the way this month is a new title update, which adds a few new improvements to the game, including unique legendary lieutenants who scale up with players’ levels. The update will also reduce the objectives in weekly contracts so they’re quicker to finish.
A purported leak that provides details on the next Assassin’s Creed game has been making the rounds on 4chan and ResetEra for the last day or two. It’s even accompanied by several off-screen screenshots that portray a Viking-themed setting and characters. But as is often the case with these things, it’s fake.
As some sharp-eyed ResetEra members determined, the screenshots included with the “leak” actually show assets found in the Unity Store. In particular, one scene is clearly set in a free environment called The Blacksmith, which was created by Silvia Rasheva to make a short film of the same name.
Here’s one of the “leaked” screenshots, along with a shot of The Blacksmith free Unity asset.
Even if the forum members hadn’t unearthed this connection, there’s no escaping the fact that the supposedly leaked screenshots look really bad, especially in comparison to Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. They look bad compared to the original Unity assets they’re using, in fact. That’s a bit of a red flag, especially when the leak is claiming the next Assassin’s Creed will be a “cross gen” title.
There were other red flags as well. The leak claimed the next Assassin's Creed world map will be split up into kingdoms that encompass all of Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Even given the size of Odyssey's sprawling map, that is absurdly large.
It’s certainly not out of the question that we’ll learn more about the next Assassin’s Creed through leaks—that seems to be the usual way of things these days—but this one is just bogus.
I have mentioned before how much I love the big buff mercenary gal of Assassin s Creed Odyssey, Kassandra. She is a holy terror and can crush anyone who steps to her, like a toddler squeezing play dough in their fist until it all squishes out the sides between their fingers. Kassandra stands a full head taller than most regular citizens of Greece, because she is superior to them in every way.
Thus, I relished the chance to do more adventuring as Kassandra in the new DLC, The Fate Of Atlantis. This one adds a whole brand spanking new area to run about in, which is ideal because my Kassandra had long since monstered every island Ancient Greece had to offer. So off we went to the fields of Elysium.
Oh, Ubisoft. If you're going to go there, you might as well go the whole hog.
The latest mercenary to appear in Assassin's Creed Odyssey is Testiklos the Nut. As well as his unfortunate name, he's laden with a tragic past. OK, it's not a tear jerker, but I guess it's a bit sad. He misses his brother, you see. Testikles (who you might've met previously in the game). They were separated when they were young, and Testiklos hasn't been the same since.
Someone's already hunted him down and killed the poor guy and his pet boar. Yes, he's an animal lover. See, there's more to him than just a silly name. He's got lots of things going for him.
You can fight and recruit Testiklos the Nut now.
Update: we added a quick edit here to reference the fact Testikles had previously appeared in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Gorgeous as the Greek isles were, it’s nice see some fresh scenery, and today’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey DLC, The Fields Of Elysium (episode one of the three-part Fate Of Atlantis) looks stunning, if a little unsafe. Continuing the techno-mystical B-plot of the series, it’s taking players into Atlantis, and from there into the Fields Of Elysium, the nicest place to be in the Greek afterlife. Expect impossibly steep cliffs, preening gods and the occasional teleporting statue-turned-turbo-guard. Below, Alice Liguori from our video crew takes a stab (well, many stabs) at the mythic new adventure.
The Assassin’s Creed series has always been a tough nut to crack on PC. The latest Ancient Greek-themed instalment, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, may be slightly easier to run than its Egyptian predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Oranges, but there are still times when it can feel like it’s delivering a great big Spartan kick-sized strain on your trusty GPU. Fortunately, I’m here to help, as I’ve been testing every graphics card under Apollo’s roasting hot sun to see how to get the best settings and the best performance in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey across a variety of resolutions.
Freshly updated with more of today’s best graphics cards than ever before, you’ll find everything you need to know here about how to get a lovely 60fps frame rate, and what quality settings you’ll need in order need to get it. Whether you’re here for its brand-new Fate of Atlantis DLC, hoofing lads off cliffs or the blush-worthy romances, here’s how to get the game looking as buff as the almighty Kassandra herself.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is kicking off its second major DLC, The Fate of Atlantis, by sending players into the ancient Greek afterlife. The first of three episodes, Fields of Elysium, will launch on April 23.
You can check out the trailer above, which boasts the stunning backdrops we've come to expect from Assassin's Creed, as well as a suitably dramatic score. A seething Cerberus also makes an appearance.
Fields of Elysium promises encounters with various mythical beasts and Greek gods and players should expect to face the forces of the Isu during the adventure. More legendary weapons and gear are up for grabs and new Ability enhancements will be introduced with the episode, allowing you to modify existing abilities to alter their function.
The Fate of Atlantis storyline starts after you've completed the main game and you'll need to complete the Between Two Worlds questline, along with the Heir of Memories and the Lost Tales of Greece questlines that follow. A character level of 28 or higher is also required. You can check the full details here.
The Fate of Atlantis DLC will continue with a second episode, Torment of Hades, and conclude with Judgement of Atlantis, completing the second story arc sometime this summer.
