General information

The Red Comet event will run from May 2 till May 26. The event will be divided into four stages, each stage will contain two identical phases, during which you will have to fight in several battle modes: Bomber Escort, Invasion, Conquest and Attrition.

Only aircraft of Tiers IV-X can take part in the event.

Missions

During each phase, you will have to complete:

3 personal missions for each aircraft type. You will earn gold and supply crates by completing the missions
One global mission for all players. Upon completing this mission, you will double the number of supply crates earned, which contain valuable rewards.

The progress of personal and global missions is reset after the completion of each phase.

Update 2.0.12

On April 25 from 01:00 PT / 04:00 ET till 05:00 PT / 08:00 ET, the servers will undergo maintenance to deploy the 2.0.12 update.

Update 2.0.12 marks the start of the final half of the Spring Campaign — the Red Comet special.

Allied air forces will deal a crippling blow to the German offensive in Europe which started during the Sword of Vengeance special. In Red Comet our players will get a chance to try new Soviet high-tier bombers — the Tupolev Tu-2, Tu-10, Tu-12 and Sukhoy Su-10. These fast, maneuverable machines are equipped with forward-facing armament and differ quite a bit from other bombers in the game. They are capable of not only crushing ground targets from high altitudes, but also pose considerable danger to enemy aircraft in aerial combat.

In-game visibility system has been changed to improve effectiveness of concealing paint schemes and Navigational Radio Equipment, as well as improve enemy detection ranges on maps with dense cloud cover.

Several crossings between branches in U.S.S.R., German and U.S.A. tech trees have been changed. Balance settings for a number of aircraft have been slightly tuned.

Additionally, we fixed multiple issues with maps, aircraft visuals in battle and Hangar.

New Aircraft

Tupolev Tu-2 — a Soviet Tier VII bomber;
Tupolev Tu-10 — a Soviet Tier VIII bomber;
Tupolev Tu-12 — a Soviet Tier IX bomber;
Sukhoy Su-10 — a Soviet, Tier X bomber.

The Tier VII-IX part of the U.S.S.R. bombers branch is represented by Tupolev Tu-2 and its successors the Tu-10 and Tu-12. These warplanes are quite similar in features and playstyle, with later models being in fact evolutions upon the most successful Soviet frontline bomber design of the World War II - the Tu-2. The concept of a bomber capable of aerial combat at low and medium altitudes due to powerful forward-facing and defensive armament is obvious in Tupolev machines. From Tier to Tier these aircraft gain improved flight characteristics but retain similar feel and playstyle.

The branch is crowned by the Sukhoy Su-10, also known as Product E. In contrast with the Tu-12 which was an intermediary design between piston-driven and jet-powered bombers, the Su-10 was initially conceived as a jet aircraft. It is faster, has better altitude performance, more powerful armament, and carries eight 500-kg bombs. Firepower from two twin-linked 20-mm cannons in its turrets will make attacking the Su-10 from rear hemisphere fatal for most fighters.

Tier VII-IX aircraft will be available through Special Orders that players can find in Trophies and complete during the Red Comet special. The Sukhoy Su-10 and its rival, the Junkers EF 131, will become available for research and purchase after the Spring Campaign is concluded, and all the players who participated and received multiple achievements in it will get a large discount to both XP and credit requirements. The full branch will become available for regular research after the Red Comet special. In the meantime the Su-10 and EF 131 can be encountered in battles piloted by bots.

The following aircraft is now available for purchase in the premium shop:

Ilyushin Il-1 — a Soviet Tier VI multirole fighter;
Dornier Do 335 A-1 Pfeil — a German Tier VIII heavy fighter.

Balance

Aircraft Balance Changes

Visibility changes
The settings of the aircraft visibility system have been changed in order to increase the utility of using concealing paint schemes, as well as the effect of the new Navigational Radio Equipment:

The use of seasonal concealing paint schemes (summer, winter, desert, marine) with the effect of +20% to aircraft concealment on the corresponding map types will reduce the distance of the aircraft's detection by an average of 200 m for aircraft of all Tiers. The use of Navigational Radio Equipment can further increase this effect up to 500 m. These changes will not influence other paint schemes' effects (protection from AA guns and gunners).
Clouds' concealment effect slightly decreased. This will increase the comfort of playing on maps with dense clouds. However, the clouds' concealment effect will remain quite significant and will reduce the detection distance by an average of 200 m.
In cases when there are no concealment effects and no crew skills or equipment increasing the view range, the detection range will be approximately 1,650 m for Tier I-IV aircraft, 2,000 m for Tier V-VII aircraft, and 2,500 m for Tier VIII-X aircraft. Like before, the detection range will be equal for all aircraft types.

Visible area on the Radar now covers 4500 / 3000 / 1500 meters for Tiers I-IV, 6000 / 4000 / 2000m for Tiers V-VII and 7500 / 5000 / 2500m for Tiers VIII-X. A circle visible on the radar when Alt is pressed represents average distance of enemy detection for the aircraft Tier. If an enemy is inside that circle it most probably can see the player's aircraft as well.

Flight model

Aircraft behavior in stall has been changed. Stall will now become more controlled and easy to recover from.

Changes in tech trees

USSR

Temporary crossing between bomber and attack aircraft branches between Pe-2 M-82 and Il-8 is no longer available.

Germany

Fw 190 A-1 can now be researched from He 112 and Bf 109 E.
Ta 152 can now be researched from Fw 190 D and Bf 109 G.

USA

F6U can now be researched from P-51H and provides an cannon-based alternative to American fighters mostly armed with machineguns. It will also serve as a link for crossing over to the heavy fighter branch towards the F2H.

Balance changes for some aircraft

USSR

Il-20 — slightly reduced damage and blast radius of the TRS-82 rockets.
RB-17 — all 4 engines can now be damaged individually.
Il-40P — fixed an error in the turret damage settings for Specialist configuration. It will now deal more damage.

Germany

Bf 109 G — increased armament accuracy, slightly increased boost efficiency and duration.

Great Britain

Beaufighter — updated damage model, slightly decreased salvo duration for forward-facing armament.

Game modes

Settings for bomber waves in Escort game mode have been changed. Their HP count was increased for all battle Tiers. Numbers of bombers in waves and waves themselves have been rebalanced for all map layouts (increased for some and decreased for others).

New map layouts

Added 5 new map layouts based on Plateau map for Conquest game mode Tier VII-X battles:

Paint schemes

Added unique paint schemes for a number of aircraft from regular research trees to the Hangar "Paint Shop" tab.

These were previously only available as part of rewards for completing Special Orders or prizes for in-game events. Same as all the other non-concealing paint schemes, these provide +5% bonus to aircraft XP gain in battles.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue that caused a respawn point different from the default one to revert to the default one in case the enemy team captured any allied territory while the player waited for respawn. It will now only revert to the default respawn point if the enemy team captures the territory selected for respawn.
Fixed an incorrect spawn point for bombers on Northern Bridgehead: Cold Skies map layout so that they no longer spawn facing a mountain peak.
Fixed an issue with AA guns not attacking enemies on several map layouts.
Fixed an issue with Scorching Sands: Desert Strike map layout that caused one of the bombers to spawn among enemy team.
Fixed engine power value for the Jumo 004A engine in the Hangar tooltip. Aircraft parameters have not changed.
Fixed an issue with the XP-31 pilot model that caused the oxygen mask to shift in some cases.
Fixed an issue with a reward paint scheme for the Hurricane Mk. I that caused its engine cover to lose metallic sheen.

Update 2.0.11.6

The April update completes the first stage of the global Spring Campaign — the Blade of Vengeance operation. In a short period of calm before the beginning of the Allied forces' counterattack — the Red Comet operation, players will be able to take part in the secret tests of the first U.S.S.R. heavy fighter in the game — the Tupolev Tu-1. In addition, new personal ratings will be held within three weeks, with an opportunity to get unique pieces of equipment for both the Tu-1 and all aircraft of period II and III.

The update also adds a new type of equipment to the game — Navigational Radio Equipment, which increases visibility and decreases the range at which the aircraft is detected by enemy aircraft. First of all, this equipment will help aircraft without forward-firing weapons (bombers) avoid direct fire contact with enemy interceptors, making their way beyond their visibility.

Secret Trials: Tupolev Tu-1

This update brings an opportunity to take part in the secret tests of the brand-new Tier VII U.S.S.R. heavy fighter — the Tupolev Tu-1. This is a heavily armed high-speed aircraft capable of destroying any target with several accurate volleys from its large-caliber guns. A powerful and clumsy "puncher", this heavy fighter is perfect for those who enjoy battles in air corridors. To add the Tupolev Tu-1 to your Hangar, you need to execute the special Secret Trials operation. You can activate it for free in the Supply Service. You can skip several operations or the whole chain by purchasing certificates in the Premium Shop. Also now, if the time for the operation execution has expired, but not all the missions have been completed, you can resume their execution using Tokens.

In addition, participation in the personal ratings will provide an opportunity to acquire unique Special Projects of the U.S.S.R. and the U.S.A. — equipment designed specifically for large heavily armed aircraft. This equipment increases the survivability and firepower of an aircraft. It is suitable for all aircraft of the corresponding period and is distinguished by significantly higher characteristics than its standard counterparts. Players who managed to get the Tu-1 in their Hangar will also be able to compete in the rating for getting a unique piece of equipment — the Tu-1 radar, which increases visibility and decreases the range at which the aircraft is detected by enemy and AA guns.

Personal Ratings

Update 2.0.11.6 brings new in-game ratings.

By participating in battles and fulfilling the conditions for getting into the rating for each of the weeks, players will be located in one of five divisions and, on Wednesday, will receive prizes corresponding to their effectiveness — unique equipment, crews, and much more. Each of them will last for six days, from Thursday (16:00 UTC) till Tuesday (20:00 UTC).

Week 1: Secret Trials: Armor Protection. Rating criteria for this week — critical damage caused to enemy aircraft. The main reward for participation will be some unique equipment — Special project of the U.S.S.R.: Engine Armor Protection. You can get this reward only by participating in the rating. Depending on the occupied division, players will receive equipment of various quality (from Stock to Ultimate), as well as mechanical parts, flight instruments, and gold. There will be two ratings — for Tier V-VII aircraft there will be a period II rating with period II equipment as a reward, and for Tier VIII+ aircraft there will be a similar period III rating. Players can take part in both ratings simultaneously.
Week 2: Secret Trials: Weapons. Rating criteria — damage caused to aerial and ground targets. The main reward for participation will be some unique equipment — Special project of the U.S.S.R.: Long Gun Barrels. You can get this reward only by participating in the rating. Depending on the occupied division, players will receive equipment of various quality (from Stock to Ultimate), as well as weapon parts, heat-resistant parts, and gold. There will be two ratings — for Tier V-VII aircraft there will be a period II rating with period II equipment as a reward, and for Tier VIII+ aircraft there will be a similar period III rating. Players can take part in both ratings simultaneously.
Week 3: Secret Trials: Turret. Rating criteria — number of personal points earned. The main reward for participation will be some unique equipment — Special project of the U.S.A: Turret Gunsight. You can get this reward only by participating in the rating. Depending on the occupied division, players will receive equipment of various quality (from Stock to Ultimate), as well as weapon parts, flight instruments, and gold. There will be three ratings — for Tier V-VII aircraft there will be a period II rating with period II equipment as a reward, for Tier VIII+ aircraft there will be a similar period III rating. There will also be a separate rating for players flying the Tu-1. Players in the third rating can receive the Tu-1 Radar and a Tu-1 gunner with 3-5 free skill points as a reward. Players can take part in all ratings simultaneously, the results of the battles with the Tu-1 will be simultaneously counted in the period II rating, since this is a Tier VII aircraft.

Tier VII-IX aircraft of the German bombers branch (Ju 288A, Ju 288C, Ju 287) are now available for research and purchase via the Tech Tree.
Tier X aircraft (EF 131) will be available for research and purchase after the end of the Red Comet event that will be held in May.

New Equipment

Navigational Radio Equipment — enhances aircraft concealment and increases its view range from +5% up to +14.6%, decreases the pilot's resistance to injuries from 3% up to 11.4% depending on the quality and calibration degree. Gives additional bonuses when upgraded: increases concealment, firing accuracy, view range, and resistance to AA guns' damage. Mounted in the Cockpit slot. Available to purchase using credits. Can be mounted only on aircraft of period III.
Tu-1 Radar — the Navigational Radio Equipment analogue that can be mounted only on the Tupolev Tu-1. You can receive it by taking part in the personal rating of the third week flying the Tu-1.
Special project of the U.S.S.R.: Engine Armor Protection — an improved version of the common Engine Armor Protection equipment. Can be mounted in the Engine slot of period II and III aircraft. Increases engine resistance to critical damage and boosts top speed. Ultimate quality also increases hit points or reduces the chance of fire. You can get it only as a reward for participating in the personal ratings.
Special project of the U.S.S.R.: Long Gun Barrels — an improved version of the common Long Gun Barrels equipment. Can be mounted in the forward-firing weapons slot of period II and III aircraft. Increases range of fire and burst length. Ultimate quality also increases the damage inflicted by forward-firing weapons or their fire accuracy. You can get it only as a reward for participating in the personal ratings.
Special project of the U.S.A.: Turret Gunsight — an improved (lend-lease) version of the common Turret Gunsight equipment. Can be mounted in the Turret slot of period II and III aircraft. Increases the turret's range of fire in manual mode, and the gunner's resistance to injuries. Ultimate quality also increases the turret's damage or the chance to cause critical damage. You can get it only as a reward for participating in the personal ratings.
