You can check out the full details below...
What does the demo include?
You’ll be able to get a taste of life in Tasos with the following demo content -
First Playable Class – ‘Hero’
Play as an all-rounder class that’s equipped for almost any situation! Utilise a variety of weapons and items, as well as your ‘charge’ ability to succeed in your heroic deeds.
The full game will allow you to play as 8+ playable classes with special focuses such as the Witch, Thief, Knight, Mage and Pirate (plus their feathered friend!).
The First Dungeon
You’ll be able to explore the game’s first route and complete the first dungeon, including its mighty boss!
This may seem challenging at first, but do not fear for you are a Rogue Hero after all! You can use your hard earned loot to level up, buy better gear and come back even stronger.
If you manage to complete the dungeon you’ll be able to continue spending time upgrading some of your town and meeting some of the locals.
However, Demolia will be blocking off the vast majority of Tasos with their magical barrier spells, so the areas available to explore will be limited for the time being.
Multiplayer
The demo allows you to play through in single player, or with up to four players locally!
Please note: The full game will be launching with online multiplayer, so whether near or far you’ll be able to put together a party of heroes to save Tasos!
Save Game
As is stands your demo from the save file will not carry over to the full game. If this changes and does become a possibility we’ll let you all know!
Now heroes, the time has come for adventure!
We hope you have a fantastic time with the demo and would love to hear your feedback, so feel free to let us know what you think in a Steam post or below in the comments.
You can support us ahead of launch and keep up to speed with all things Rogue Heroes by dropping us a Steam Wishlist, thank you!
In this week's edition of Heroes' Hall we're taking a look at one of the aspects of town building that you'll be able to utilise - upgrading and customising your very own home.
Not only is your home a great place to relax, unwind and entertain your fellow heroes, but if you fall in combat and can't be resurrected you'll return safe and sound back at your house and ready to roll!
Humble Beginning
When you first awaken in the land of Tasos, you'll find yourself in an old, run down cabin. It's not much, but it's yours and a roof over a weary hero's head.
Luckily for you, your new ally Griff has a knack for building and will help you fix up the place!
With enough materials and loot you'll even be able to expand your house multiple times to add additional rooms.
Through The Keyhole
As you explore the world, build new shops and raid dungeons you'll come across new types of objects and furniture!
Once discovered these items will be unlocked for purchase at the Intori General store, which can then be placed inside your home as you please.
Be on the lookout for new beds, chairs, rugs, storage and snazzy homes for your favourite fish.
Pick out your furniture, select the wall colour and really make it your own!
Just make sure to have enough furniture and beds if you're expecting visitors in the form of other players...
See you next year!
We'll be taking a short break on the Heroes' Hall posts over Christmas, but fear not we'll be back in January!
Enjoy the holidays and get ready for 2020, the year of Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos!
For Heroes' Hall number 9 we decided to take a step back from combat and look at how heroes will have to use their brain, instead of their brawn, to overcome some situations!
Whether you're exploring on your own, or in a party of up to four players the puzzles you face will be built around how many of you there are - this means accessible and fun puzzles no matter the size of your hero party.
Now, onto a look at some of the puzzles you'll be tackling...
Skittering Blocks
The blocks that go bump in the night!
These blocks are inhabited by friendly little monsters that want nothing more that to return to their home. This shy, skittery critter can only run in straight lines, so it's up to you to figure out which way it needs to run. A gentle push is all that's needed to encourage it on its way.
Yargh! A cunning Pirate hero will earn the booty!
Heroes that return this monster to its rightful place are sure to be rewarded!
Orb Pedestals
These Orb Pedestals always meet the hero in pairs. Upon one you'll find a heavy glass orb, the other an empty space that you'll have to move the heavy glass orb to.
To me, to you!
This can only be achieved by having one player carry it across by hand, but you didn't think it'd be that easy did you? Hostile monsters will seek to attack and knock the orb from your hands, magical barriers will shatter the orb on contact and more...
Has a bone to pick with your orb...
You'll need to rely on your companions and their catching skills in order to safely get the orb to its goal!
Pressure Plates
The classic hero obstacle, whether its in puzzle or trap form these are a staple classic!
Luckily for you the Dungeons of Tasos are full of these stone pressure plates. You'll need to press them down with something heavy, like a stone block or conveniently placed fellow hero!
Many of these pressure plate puzzles will change with the number of heroes in your group, so co-ordinate and work together to find the solution!
Beast Statues
During the ancient days of Tasos, many different statues were build by the skilled sculpters. Most of these are still simply statues, but others hide a darker secret...
Push the right statues and you might open a locked door or reveal a treasure chest full of gems and loot! But stay alert good heroes, other statues might actually be monsters in disguise who will strike at you when you least expect it!
That wraps up our introduction to some of the puzzles you'll face on your grand quest through Tasos.
Keep your sword sharp and your wit sharper, you'll need it!
Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos is available to Wishlist now! Show your support and add us to yours -
In this edition of the Heroes Hall, we’ll be taking a look at some of the basic combat mechanics you’ll be using throughout Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos, as well a few of the Monsters you’ll encounter and some of the tactics they use.
Combat Mechanics - For when you need to send a message to the forces of darkness!
The Sword
Ah, the trusty sword, the heroes’ best friend. Every class in Rogue Heroes has access to the sword.
With it, you can attack in any direction at close range. Once you’ve built a Blacksmith in your town, you’ll be able to upgrade your swords properties such as Damage, Speed, and Range depending on your playstyle.
Be warned though, if you plan to take down the Titan’s Dungeons, you’re going to need a powerful sword to carve your way through the creatures that stir in the shadows...
The Shield
It’s never a bad idea to bring a shield into combat. Drawing your shield will lock you into a direction, and allow you to slowly, safely strafe about and work your way up to monsters.
However, if danger comes at you from behind, you’ll have to lower your shield before turning around to face the threat.
Your Stamina
In Rogue Heroes, most of the actions you take during combat will use up portion of your Stamina. A true Hero knows the danger of simply rushing into battle - You'll have to balance your attacks, defence and strategy if you want to survive!
Any time you swing your sword, defend with your shield, or use certain tools you’ll consume a bit of Stamina. As you expend Stamina, a wheel will appear above your head to indicate how much energy you have left.
Taking a break from these actions will allow your Stamina to recharge. But be careful! If you attack overzealously or stand firm behind the safety of your shield for too long, your Stamina will become fully depleted, and you’ll become exhausted and open to attack.
Once exhausted, your ability to perform other actions will be greatly reduced, and it will take you even longer to catch your breath and regain your full strength.
Dealing with Monsters
Just as swinging your sword around without a plan can get you into trouble, certain Monsters will require a unique approach if you want to take them down.
The Tendron for example, is a monster that hides amongst the local fauna and springs to life when approached.
Once engaged it will use its long, quick tendrils, to knock away ranged attacks like arrows with ease. You’ll have to time your approach and get in close if you want to slay these plantlike pests!
The Skullspear is another member of Titans’ army of Skulletons, but this particular foe is no bonehead! Armed with a shield and spear, the Skullspear will block any incoming attacks from your sword.
You’ll have to wait until he goes on the offensive and lunges at you with spear. Then, when his guard is down, you can make your move.
The Zap Jelly is a floating, jellyfish-like creature with electrifying innards. They periodically charge their whole bodies with enough electric energy to fry a fish. Time your attacks if you want to get by un-singed.
While not too difficult to dispatch on it’s own, a group of Zap Jellies will electrify in unison, and arcs of energy will form a dangerous web between them, so watch where you’re standing!
Slimes are comprised of a strange, gelatinous structure. This not only allows them to survive being sliced into smaller pieces, but they can also absorb the impact of most projectiles with ease.
That wraps up this week's Heroes' Hall!
We hope you found these tips useful. There will be many more enemies with sneaky tricks and tactics up their sleeves, so be prepared!
Get ready to save Tasos by signalling your heroic intentions with a Wishlist:
This week we’re going to cover one of the heroes most trusted magical tools, the Wand!
Players that choose to wield a Wand will have a wide variety of spells at their disposal, giving access to both elemental and arcane abilities to combat enemies and even manipulate the environment.
Upon receiving your wand you’ll be able to cast Magic Missile using your starting rune, creating a barrage of projectiles that can strike down those that oppose you.
How do you get more runes? What spells do they unlock? What do these other spells do?
We’ll explain all of that below…
Wands, Runes and Spells!
As mentioned above, the Wand allows players to slot magic runes into it to cast a variety of spells at the cost of mana.
Every Wand wielding hero will need to explore the overworld of Tasos to find Rune Statues, where the Goddesses of Tasos will offer up new combat and utility runes to slot into your Wand, unlocking new spells!
It’s a kind of magic!
Fire Rune
Turn up the heat on your enemies with this early game rune!
Launch a flaming projectile that adds a burn stack on those it hits. Once enough stacks are accumulated the unlucky foe will set on fire, taking fire damage over time (DoT) and spreading to nearby enemies and flammable objects.
You can also use this spell to light bushes and torches for vision and utility purposes.
Ice Rune
Put your foes on ice with this projectile spell! On hitting enemies, the projectile will add a stack of freeze status that when filled with entrap said enemy in a block of ice for a period of time, or until shattered by a player.
Magic Missile
Unlike its elemental counterparts, this rune allows players to rapid-fire a series of smaller magic projectiles in a burst. This creates a more direct damage approach, increasing DPS at the cost of not applying a status effect.
Handy for dealing with swarms of enemies that are rushing you or your friends.
Moon
Moving away from offensive spells, it’s time to think big!
Accomplished magic users will be able to manipulate the time of day with this spell, changing the time of day to night with a raise of their Wand.
You have no need to fear the dark, but you should be very wary of what lurks within it. The cover of darkness will lead to bats and other creatures of the night to leave their lairs and roam the land…
Sun
The opposite of Moon, this spell changes the time of day to daytime! Raising your Wand to the sky with this spell will pass night to day, allowing your crops to grow in the warm sunlight.
Storm
Great for those heroes that enjoy inclement weather! Summon a storm at will and bring down rains to the lands of Tasos. Great for setting the scene before an epic dungeon raid or watering your farm!
That wraps up our first proper look at spells in Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos, hopefully you were spellbound by what you saw!
Some like to quest alone, a rogue hero that relies on their own experiences and skill to get the job done with only their shadow to keep them company.
Others, however, believe that the power of teamwork and friendship will lead to the most successful heroes to ever walk the land!
This week’s Heroes’ Hall will focus on the latter group, those that seek to adventure with a friend or three…
Co-operative Multiplayer in Rogue Heroes!
Good news!
The multiplayer mode in Rogue Heroes features the same full campaign that solo players would enjoy, allowing you to take the full journey from start to finish with 2-4 players.
Work together to build up your village from its humble beginnings, take down the regional dungeons and conquer the overworld in jolly co-operation.
Player Freedom
Drop in, or out, anytime with your own hero profile to take your character from single to multiplayer, or vice versa. We were keen to put no restrictions on whether you can join-in with your friends, so the state of the world and the available quests will come from a combination of all of the player’s heroic accomplishments.
You can also role multiple of the same class in your hero party! You’ll be able to customise and change the design of your hero to make them stand out from their party members and give themselves a unique identity!
Oh and if you’re not feeling a dungeon raid, why not kick back and relax with your friends by doing a spot of farming or seeing who can land the biggest or rarest fish in a friendly fishing tournament along the shore?
Death is not the end!
There may well come a time when your heroic deeds come undone and you shuffle your mortal coil.
Whether it’s from an arrow to the… vital organs, a devious trap or being devoured by a monstrous beast the chances are you won’t finishing your questing entirely unscathed.
But fear not, brave heroes, your dedication to your friends and team will lead to you not passing over, but remaining being as a spooky ghost that can continue to assist their friends! Ghost players will be able to haunt objects, such as pots, and launch themselves at enemies to keep their living companions well, living!
Players can also carry the skull of their fallen allies, which if carefully protected and taken to a Revival Alter, can bring them back to life as good as new - tis but a scratch!
Puzzling Puzzles!
The game experience will scale to the number of players present and that includes puzzles! You’ll need to puzzle it out with your crew, no matter the size, with each member being important to help solve the puzzles before you.
How have we done this? Well, some rooms require a specific party size to complete and will only show up when you have a specific party size.
Teamwork makes the dream work!
That wraps up this week’s Heroes’ Hall, so prepare to join together, help each other build up the village, show each other where to find hidden secrets and conquer those tricky bosses and puzzles!
Together you can help restore Tasos to its former glory and conquer the whole island!
This week's post will introduce some of the equipment that you’ll be getting to grips with in your Tasos exploring, dungeon raiding adventures.
From the humble shovel and high flying grappling hook, to the mystical magic wand and its spells, we’ve got the lowdown on gear for all types of heroes.
Lets take a look!
Hero’s Equipment Preview
Weapons
The Bow and the Boomerang
Perfect for those who like to keep their enemies at range, these weapons both have a unique role in battle. The boomerang can be tossed by the player for a small mana cost, stunning enemies that it contacts. As a bonus the boomerang can also pick up and return items that it collides with, for when a juicy piece of loot is just out of reach!
The bow is more of a staple ranged damage option, drawing from the player’s arrow stockpile instead of their mana pool. Holding down the fire button will allow for increased accuracy, with the Ranger class being able to travel faster whilst holding a shot and aiming them more quickly.
The Magic Wand
The wand allows players to slot different magic runes they find into it, opening up a variety of spells and effects at the cost of mana.
We’ll do a quick overview of the spells now, but you can expect an in-depth look at them in a future Heroes’ Hall.
Fire Rune: Your first rune – Great for lightning enemies on fire, as well as flammable objects like torches.
Ice Rune: Get your enemies to chill out with this icy projectile! Build freeze stacks to trap enemies in a block of ice.
Magic Missile: If your looking for burst damage over status elements, this multi-hit spell is right up your street.
Moon: Turn day to night whenever you choose.
Sun: Turn night to day whenever you choose.
Storm: Summon a storm, should the need arise.
Utility Items
Alongside offensive equipment, you’ll be able to make use of a wide range of useful utility items. These include watering cans and seed bags for farming, a multi-purpose potion bottle and other useful pieces we’ll talk about in the future!
Today though we’re going to look at the handy shovel, the grapping hook and the fishing rod!
The Shovel
Unsurprisingly, the shovel allows players to dig! Whether you’re tilling the ground to plant seeds in your farm, flipping Spikulo enemies on their backs or digging up treasure, keeping a trusty shovel nearby is never a bad idea.
The Grappling Hook
No it’s not a bird, nor a plane, it’s a hero moving at high velocity thanks to their grappling hook! This item extends a lengthy chain that can attach to certain statues, propelling you towards them and across perilous gaps.
The hook can also be used to pull away enemy shields in an instant and even damage undefended foes from a distance.
The Fishing Rod
This item probably doesn’t need an introduction but knowing what you can land with it will be news to your heroic ears!
Fish across the land and sell your extra fish at the dock house to fill your purse. But there are those that speak of legendary fish that lurk below the surface. Those that catch them will be able to learn the fabled fish scale thread…
There’s more where they came from
We hope you enjoyed this first look at some of the equipment and tools that you’ll be using when we launch next year.
We’ll be going into more detail about all of the above, as well as a whole host of other equipment and how they can be upgraded in the future, so watch this space!
P.S. Any ideas on what you think the ‘Frog Flute’ does? Pop your answers in the comments!
We hope you’re ready to put your adventuring gear on as we’re looking at dungeons!
This update will not only look at the dungeons themselves, but what kinds exist and how they work!
You see, dungeons are a large part of Rogue Heroes, I mean where else are you going to get all that sweet loot! Successful dungeoneers will earn the gems and rewards required to not only upgrade their character but also the village.
Oh, and there’s one more thing you’ll want to be aware of heroes, each dungeon is uniquely generated upon entering. This means that no dungeon is the same twice, even on multiple playthroughs!
Main Dungeons
Terakar Keep
Terakar Keep is the first dungeon you’ll encounter in Tasos!
Fear not though brave heroes, you’ll learn the ropes in this dungeon and earn a few gems to get the village off the ground.
This is the first of four primary dungeons that are located in each region of the Tasos overworld. Defeating each dungeon will provide the core progression for you becoming a stronger hero.
Each major dungeon you encounter will have a different tile set and theme, from swamplands and fiery jungles to a mighty ice mountain!
Welestar Chambers
Welestar Chambers is the second primary dungeon, located deep in a murky swamp full of deadly deep mud!
Inside you’ll battle through entirely new traps and enemies as you seek the main chamber…
Side Dungeons
In addition to the main dungeons to explore and loot, Tasos boasts a selection of side dungeons that can be completed to unlock new areas, tools and even hero classes!
Lets take a quick look at two examples of these below –
Mausoleum
One side dungeon you can encounter is the Mausoleum. In order to find it though you’ll need to figure out a secret to make the entrance appear.
Once you’ve tested your brains, you’ll put your brawn to the test as the Mausoleum is a combat focussed dungeon! Those that successfully brave the depths to help out one of the locals will earn themselves a new class to use.
Mines
The Mines are a unique dungeon that unlocks access to new areas of exploration! Bold heroes will have to fight through twisty mine shafts and navigate mine shaft elevators as they delve through this multi-layered dungeon.
Keep a close eye out for lurking Araknars and use the mine carts to solve puzzles as you climb your way to the top!
How a dungeon is made!
In Rogue heroes, no two dungeons are the same. How do we do this? Well…
The game’s main dungeons are generated by laying out a random path through the multiple floors, adding side rooms and distractions along the way to remove linearity and reward exploration.
So many options!
A different adventure every time!
Small keys are placed in chests and as rewards for those who finish puzzle and combat encounters, giving heroes the ability to unlock doors and progress deeper into the dungeon in question.
Each dungeon will have a boss that needs defeating. In order to access this boss door heroes will need to loot the dungeon until they find the boss key!
Dungeon Rooms
Every room that makes up the dungeons in Rogue Heroes is handmade. The main benefit of this being the dungeon rooms don’t have the drawbacks of uninteresting, fully randomised designs.
Having said that, the rooms have different configurations depending on how you enter them as well as different enemy spawns and randomly picked features so that these room templates can feel different dozens of times!
Certain puzzles in the rooms like block puzzles are completely randomised so you’ll never have the solutions memorised and will have to put your puzzle solving hat on each time to tackle a dungeon.
By combining handmade rooms with procedural layouts, randomised keys, traps, chests, puzzles and enemy mobs we can get the benefits of an infinite dungeon exploring experience without the odd looking and rough elements of being fully randomised.
We hope you enjoyed this first look the dungeons of Tasos and how they’re created!
Whether you're a solo hero or adventuring with friends, you will be far from alone in Tasos!
Over 40 NPCs (Townsfolk) will bring life to the town as you repair and expand it beyond its humble beginnings.
Each character has their own story, motivations and in some cases services they can provide to you as a budding hero.
Today we're going to say hello to eight of the townsfolk and give you a first look at their motivations for being in Tasos.
The Locals
Griff
Griff braved his way into Tasos from the safety of the neighbouring Avintes when no one else would. Taking his finely honed carpentry skills from the safety of the big city to the wider world, he is known as the fastest builder in all the land!
Griff will be an indispensable ally in the efforts to rebuild and recolonise Tasos.
Max
Max is Griff's nephew who'll move into town once his uncle sends a letter informing his family that his adventures in Tasos are going well with your help. That's right, supporting the town will mean more friendly faces and NPC progression!
Max wants to be an adventurer when he grows up and maybe even a hero like you.
Rusty
Who says the townsfolk have to be human? Rusty is Max's faithful hound and best friend. He'll keep Max safe no matter what! When he's not watching Max, Rusty likes to lay around, scratch and generally be a mighty fine doggo.
Yes, you can pet Rusty!
Willy
A grizzled veteran of the sea, Willy settled down in Tasos to take care of his daughter after many a hard year battling the waves. These days he's into fishing for the biggest catches in Tasos where he's heard fish have no equal...
Talking to Willy will allow you to learn the tricks of the fishing trade and even lead to you helping him land the greatest catch of his life!
Margaret
Margaret will arrive from Avintes at Griff's request to help the growing hero population by providing much needed protection!
Margaret can spin enchanted thread to create outfits that give power to the heroes' ambitions.
Taking the time to talk to Margaret will lead to stronger classes and abilities for your hero.
Nat
Yes, that's a squirrel.
Nat is the eccentric squirrel master who heralds from the northeast forest. Nat never left Tasos when things went south, she just found new friends in the little critter and animals that call the woods their home.
You'll usually find Nat collecting acorns strewn about to feed and please her furry friends.
Andy
It seems not everyone shares the consensus that rebuilding Tasos is a good idea.
Andy is a solitary man who lives in a cabin on the great hill outside town, from which he can see everything going on below. He mostly keeps to himself and lives off the land, but isn't too thrilled by the return of civilisation that you've brought about.
BUT, finding common ground with this hermit could lead to something useful...
Rick
The local tools expert, Rick can fashion new equipment from blueprints you bring him! But there's so much more to his unique talent, by trading him some gems you'll be able to update existing equipment to augment strength, speed, carrying capacity and loads more!
That wraps up this week's Heroes' Hall! If you have any questions about NPCs do let us know in the comments section and we'll look to answer them next week.
