The Riftbreaker - voidreaver
Hello!

It is time for the last trade show of the year for EXOR Studios! This time we are going to Poznań Game Arena, the biggest game show in Poland. Every year, it attracts thousands of visitors, whose passion is gaming. Among hundreds of other games, they will also get the chance to try out The Riftbreaker!

We are going to have a large booth in the 5A hall. It will feature two game stations, where you will be able to take Mr. Riggs for a test drive on Galatea 37. After you’re done playing, you can spin the wheel of fortune for a chance to win some EXOR Studios merch. You will also have the chance to take a picture with a 2.5m tall statue of Mr. Riggs. Oh, and the whole EXOR team is going to be there, too! We’re going to wear our unified EXOR hoodies, so we will be easy to spot. Come and say hi if you find us!

An awards show is hosted during PGA, recognizing the best games of the show. We’re happy to announce that The Riftbreaker has been qualified for awards in two categories - Best Indie Game and Best Game Video (for the teaser trailer). Keep your fingers crossed Saturday evening!

If you can’t visit us in Poznań, join our Discord server, where we will post things from behind the scenes all weekend long. www.discord.gg/exorstudios

Hello!

If you are a fan of explosions like we are, you've come to the right place! One of our newest additions to the Riftbreaker arsenal is slow, expansive, and costs a lot of ammo to use... But it's so fun! World, meet the portable Nuclear Cannon!

The Nuclear Cannon can be equipped by Mr. Riggs just like any other weapon. It fires a single, low-powered nuclear missile that explodes on contact with any solid matter. The explosion radius is quite big for a handheld weapon and the shockwave can be felt hundreds of meters away. Due to developments in nuclear power technology, it does not produce any nuclear waste or fallout. You can use it without much consequence.

The obvious drawback of this weapon is the fire rate. It will not save you when your base is being attacked by thousands of enemies at a time. While it might take down some part of the group, more will come and immediately replace their fallen brethren, leaving you defenseless. Always have an alternative weapon on hand! Remember to also stockpile on ammunition, you're going to need a lot of it.

Do you think this kind of weapon is a bit too much? Or perhaps we should add even more powerful and expensive items to the game? Let us know here and on www.discord.gg/exorstudios

Hi there!

At this point, you know EXOR Studios pretty well. You might have even played some of our previous games (and if you haven't, check them out! We have free demos available). One of the common things among them all is a variety of weapons. Today we will take a look at a weapon some of us are particularly fond of - the Railgun.

This weapon is very similar to the Railgun Tower. In fact, it is a little less powerful, but more portable version of that building. The Railgun is not available to you from the start - you have to download the blueprints and craft it yourself, but the effects are great!

The beam of energy fired from the railgun pierces through everything in its range, dealing massive amounts of damage even to the toughest enemies. In order to do that, it consumes power cells, which are manufactured in the Riftbreaker's Armory. Using the Railgun is quite tricky, as you need to line up the enemies to take down as many of them in one shot, but when you do, it is glorious.

The rate of fire on this gun is very slow, so it is best to use it in conjunction with a weapon that is less powerful, but less demanding when it comes to operations. The railgun is not the best at dealing with hordes of smaller enemies, either, because of the narrow beam. We're sure you'll find the ways to use it effectively, though!

What other kinds of weapons would you like us to implement in the game? Both melee weapons and firearms are fair game! Tell us in the comments down below or on our Discord server - www.discord.gg/exorstudios

See you soon!

Hello again!

Last time we told you about one of the most fun streaming events for the viewers - acid rain. There is one more weather phenomenon (so far, we have plans for many more) that the viewers of The Riftbreaker streams can vote on. Say hello to the tornado!

The tornado is a local weather event. It spawns a local whirlwind, affecting all the wildlife around it. Smaller plants and animals get swept up instantly. Bigger objects take significant damage and may also fall victim to the vortex. The radius of the tornado's influence is limited, however, which means you can run away to safety. Usually...

The tornado comes in two variants. It can either follow the player or focus on the base. Once the viewers decide which type of tornado they want to spawn, they take control of it. Every couple of seconds they get to decide whether the tornado should move towards its target or away from it. That can lead to various outcomes. Sometimes the tornado will wipe out half of your base, some other day you won't even notice it was ever there.

If your audience is cooperative enough, you can also exploit this extreme weather event, which can lead to some highlight-worthy situations, such as this one (it's in the video form, as you need to see it in its full glory):

Hello!

Sorry for the break we had in regards to delivering the news about The Riftbreaker! We’ve been working very hard, though, and achieved a lot of progress! You can see exactly what changed by giving our stream VODs a watch. They can be found here, in the 'past streams' section:

https://mixer.com/exor_studios

Our streams are quite special for two reasons. First, you can see the effects of our work on an almost day-two day basis and instantly give us feedback (and laugh at our failures!). Second, you can interact with the gameplay through the Community Events that happen during gameplay. When a Community Event occurs, the viewers of the stream are given a couple of options to vote on. They can do so by using either the MixPlay interface on Mixer or the Twitch chat, depending on the service. The player sees the voting results in real-time.

The events that can occur through this system range from beneficial to detrimental. The viewers can give the streamer resources or take them away. The same goes for the attack waves - the viewers can strengthen or weaken them. The most interesting, however, are the weather effects. We are going to take a look at them this week, and the first has already become a fan favorite. Let’s learn everything about acid rain!

Acid rain is a global weather event. Once it is in effect, all the player-built structures on the map start receiving some damage per second. It is not a high amount but definitely adds up over time. Acid rain is accompanied by dense, dark clouds that obstruct the sunlight, rendering solar panels useless. The damage is slightly randomized, leading to glorious effects, such as this one:

During the acid rain, it is impossible to set up new buildings, as the printing device becomes damaged at an instant. The player must keep that in mind to avoid losing resources. It is also important to note that all Community Events are linked with attack waves, so the rain is not the only threat. We won’t leave you defenseless - there is counterplay to this, with automated repair facilities at the forefront. Introducing redundant energy lines can keep your base operational even if some energy hubs get destroyed.

We would like to hear your opinion about events like these. Do you think the damage from the acid rain is a bit too much? Or should we add some more detrimental effects? What other kinds of events would you like to see in the game? Let us know in the comment section or on our Discord server! ...and now for something completely different!

A lot of side events accompany Gamescom every year. You don't get to meet your colleagues from the game dev world every day, after all, so when you do, it calls for a celebration!

This year we had the chance to co-sponsor the Polish Party organized by the Indie Games Poland Foundation. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, have a chat with friends and enjoy a warm, summer evening after a day of hard work at the fair.

One of the main attractions of the party was a live concert of the Manico String Quartet, playing music from various video games. Before the event, the organizers asked us if there were any pieces from our games that could work on strings. Without a moment of hesitation, we said yes.

Here is the Manico String Quartet's interpretation of The Riftbreaker Main Theme, originally composed by Marcin Pukaluk.

https://youtu.be/UHqVNuZrJRM

If you haven't heard the original version, you can give it a listen here:

https://youtu.be/xUGv0X4I4Js

What do you think? We were incredibly excited to hear The Riftbreaker Theme live and we think the band did a great job with their interpretation of the piece. It made the whole event even more memorable!

There's much more good music in The Riftbreaker, some of you have already had a chance to listen to it during our regular live streams at www.mixer.com/exor_studios - they take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 PM CEST. Follow us not to miss them!

Hello!

Our biweekly stream is up. As usual, we are testing the latest development build of The Riftbreaker. The goal is to catch all the pesky bugs lingering in the game code and gather feedback from you. The suggestions from the community are very valuable to us, so keep them coming!

You can find the stream at www.mixer.com/exor_studios

Last time we managed to complete a 90-minute-long survival run. A lot of interesting things happened thanks to the audience and their participation. The interactive streaming events are shaping up quite nicely. Here's a little highlight of one of the awesome things that happened last Thursday.

https://youtu.be/BT9BUi91q1Y

Who knows what will happen this time? Come and find out! We are also going to have a little announcement during the stream, so it's going to be worth it.

See you on Mixer!

Hi!

Interactive live streaming features are something we are very excited about. They introduce interaction between the streamer and the audience on a completely different level. Needless to say, we've never done anything like this before, so there is a lot of work ahead of us :)

In order to get those features to a satisfactory level, we need to keep testing them. There is no better way to do it than to test with a live audience :) That is why starting Thursday, September 12th (that's today, btw), we are going to come back to our regular streaming schedule - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 PM CEST. Of course, that's the general plan. Some changes may happen, so keep an eye on our news channels not to miss anything ;)

The streams are going to take place on Mixer, at www.mixer.com/exor_studios However, we are working on integrations for most major streaming services, and all of them will need some stress testing. We will, naturally, announce it ahead of time when the stream is going to be held on a different platform than Mixer.

To stay up-to-date with the streaming schedule and news, join our Discord - www.discord.gg/exorstudios - we post a reminder every time we go live.

If you have never seen The Riftbreaker in action during a live stream, you might want to check out this gameplay video:

All our past streams are also available in the 'Past Streams' section of our Mixer channel.

See you during the stream!

Hello!

August has been the craziest month in EXOR history when it comes to gaming shows. We traveled thousands of kilometers, attended Gamescom and PAX West, gave away tons of merch and got to meet a lot of amazing people! A+ experience overall. Enjoy some pictures from the event and our short report. There are also a couple of pictures unrelated to EXOR, but we enjoyed seeing those things so much that we wanted to share them with you!

PAX West was a one of a kind event. All the people there were passionate gamers, happy to share their enthusiasm with everyone around them. They were eager to try out The Riftbreaker, and even though most of them have never heard about it before, they had a lot of fun. So did we! Watching somebody play your game and smile is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Now it is time to come back to the office and work on the game. We have a ton of new features planned, as well as upgrades to some of the stuff you’ve already seen. Make sure to follow our channels for updates. Some exciting stuff is coming your way!

Over the course of the last month, hundreds of show attendees had the opportunity to test the updated event demo and left us a lot of valuable feedback. We are in the process of implementing it right now. Expect to see the results soon on our development stream!

Starting Thursday, September 12th, we should be back to our regular streaming schedule. We are going to stream Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 PM CEST. The stream is a great opportunity to talk to us directly, ask questions, give suggestions and also test the interactive streaming features. Acid ran, anyone? ;)

We would also like to invite you to join our Discord community. It’s a chance to get some behind-the-scenes knowledge and join the beta when it comes around. Head over to www.discord.gg/exorstudios

Hi there!

Another week, another game show! This time, we are visiting another part of the globe to take part in PAX West in Seattle, WA. Visit the EXOR Studios booth and play the pre-alpha demo version of The Riftbreaker, the same one we presented last week at Gamescom.

While playing through the demo you will learn the basic controls and mechanics of the game. You will have to repel numerous attacks from the hordes of alien creatures, establish a completely new outpost, and clear out nests of hostile creatures. We designed this custom mission to give you just a taste of what’s to come in the full version of the game. We also periodically update it with the latest features. If it isn’t your first time playing The Riftbreaker, you will be able to see our progress.

If you have the opportunity to do so, come by our booth. Your feedback is invaluable to us. Help us make The Riftbreaker a game that you want to play. If you can’t join us this time, visit our Discord server to stay up to date with the latest developments and news. www.discord.gg/exorstudios
