Gloomhaven has now launched to Steam on PC for 24.99 USD/EUR. Enter the Early Access now and begin adventuring through the dungeons of Gloomhaven, facing off against a variety of deadly foes across a range of dungeons and encountering powerful bosses!
Your journey to the darkened lands of Gloomhaven is complete and your adventures to prove your power have begun. You've settled in the Wayward Inn with your party to rest after your long and difficult travels. While drinking an ale you overhear snippets of conversation between two town militia...A Bandit Commander has come into possession of a number of heretical texts and has begun researching necromancy. Magic generally comes hand in hand with gold and riches, so you have asked around and discovered the location of the bandit's hideout.
You begin your journey and decide that you are not quite ready to confront the Bandit Commander yet. You leave Wayward and decide on raiding some local crypts in search of knowledge and better equipment. It's time to choose your path and begin your adventure! Will you become a mercenary reknown beyond measure, that thinks tactically and plans out their adventure carefully, surviving to the end... or will you be rash and laid to rest by your foes in the depths of the crypts and dungeons of Gloomhaven?
The Start of Gloomhaven's Early Access will include 4 playable characters, 9 enemy classes—with both standard and elite variants—and 3 bosses to take on, all through our digital exclusive roguelike Adventure mode. The Adventure Mode will have you explore an entirely new map created with the assistance of Isaac Childres, completing dungeons, visiting towns and eventually, fighting epic bosses.
If you want to learn more about our plans for the Early Access and the deployment of content, then we have prepared a handy roadmap of development that you can find below. This is intentionally vague because we are planning on changing our development priorities based on community feedback and response. This does however indicate our general plan of action in which we will be rolling out all of the content of the board game and more over the course of Early Access, with the release of the full campaign and multiplayer alongside the full launch.
If you purchase the Early Access, you will also be granted the Nightcrawler Scoundrel as well as several other skins for the mercenaries available at the start of the Early Access that will be unlockable through challenges we will be announcing at a later date. So stay tuned to learn more about those skins and challenges, but you can check out the awesome Nightcrawler Scoundrel below.
If you are prepared to conquer your fears and overcome the many dangers that abound in Gloomhaven, then dive right in and play now! Remember though, Gloomhaven is not for the faint of heart. You will face challenges beyond measure, and a level of difficulty you are not quite used to. In light of this, we have prepared a few tools for you to use while we are still constructing our complete tutorial for Gloomhaven.
To learn more about the game, it's intricacies and the many variety of features and mechanics, check out the Compendium in-game. This includes a complete encyclopedia of game information that should assist you with confronting any difficulty that you might face.
If you would prefer to have a brief rundown of the game, you can also check out our gameplay trailer that goes over a basic explanation of the features and gameplay of Gloomhaven, this is a perfect introduction, but will not explain deeper and more intricate details of the game.
If after going through all of this and consuming that much content about Gloomhaven, you would still like to learn more to optimise your gameplay and become an even mightier sellsword out for a profit, then feel free to check out some guides about Gloomhaven the Board Game. As the gameplay and mechanics from the board game are reflected in the digital version, the massive amount of content available about how to best play from that community will also be able to aid you in your adventures!
May the loot flow from your enemies and your experience gain always be high! Good luck mercenaries!
We're back again this week as we have even more cool news to release to you all before we launch the Early Access of Gloomhaven next week on July 17. It's crazy to think that even though we're been smashing through missions all this time to get the game ready for Early Access Launch, our journey together as mercenaries in the world of Gloomhaven is only just beginning.
If you missed last weeks blog about the new Gameplay Trailer and Roadmap, you can check it out by clicking the roadmap below:
In one week, you will all be able to launch your first adventure in the digital adaptation of Gloomhaven, fighting back maddening monsters, bad bandits and ugly undead! With the launch on July 17, you will also be able to start providing us with your first pieces of feedback about how the game plays from your own experiences. We're sure that you are going to have a blast, and look forward to hearing your thoughts about the game.
Now to get to the core of what we've created this blog for: ANNOUNCEMENTS!
We're implementing free skins for the Early Access. To start, we have implemented a special skin for the Scoundrel that will be made available for free to all Early Access purchasers. These will allow you to select a new skin from a special icon during character selection. We've prepared an amazing visual below that you can check out to see how awesome the new Scoundrel looks!
That looks so cool! As we're sure that you're wanting to see how the Nightcrawler Scoundrel will look in the game and the difference between her and the base Scoundrel, you can find a side by side comparison below!
We hope you like the direction that we are going in for the first skin in the series that we will be releasing for Early Access. We will be releasing more free skins in the future for other Early Access starting characters that you will be able to unlock through challenges that we will announce at a later date. Be sure to keep an eye out for announcements and reveals of these skins in the future!
The last part of this blog, we want to provide you with an updated FAQ about Gloomhaven. You can find an updated short FAQ below and we will be posting a longer form FAQ on the forums in the near future:
Why Early Access?
Gloomhaven is based on the hugely popular physical board game of the same name and features 17 playable characters, 47 enemy classes and a campaign with 95 scenarios. To put it bluntly, it’s an absolute behemoth! To release everything all at once would be a challenge to say the least. For the digital version, we have created a brand-new roguelike version of the game called Adventure Mode that features the exact same core gameplay as the board game, but with procedurally generated scenarios and a new approach to items and abilities for your party.
All this combined means that we have a unique experience for both players new to Gloomhaven, as well as the most dedicated fans, with the ability to gradually extend the content as we progress through development. As the crowning finale, at full launch we will include the full campaign from the physical board game and our unique Adventure Mode filled with all the playable characters and enemies.
Without a doubt, the best thing about this approach is that we get to make the game alongside the community. We know that you all share our passion for Gloomhaven and we are excited to be able to develop this game together to make the best possible digital adaptation of Gloomhaven!
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
Currently we are planning to be in Early Access for at least 9-12 months as we want to work side by side with the community to create more new features and unique content, including that which doesn’t already exist within the board game.
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
During Early Access we will be adding more playable characters, items, enemies, bosses and environments to our Adventure Mode, alongside features such as Character Perks and Ability Enhancements. We will essentially bring all the content from the original board game — and even more with digital exclusive enemies and bosses.
Isaac Childres, designer of the original board game, has been closely involved in the development and design of the digital adaptation, with every artistic and design choice personally vetted by him.
At full launch, we will deliver the complete board game campaign experience to the digital edition as well as the highly anticipated and requested multiplayer coop mode.
If you have purchased the early access, all additional full launch content will be free.
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
At the launch of Early Access, you will get 4 playable characters, 9 enemy classes—with both standard and elite variants—and 3 bosses to take on, all through our roguelike Adventure mode. The Adventure Mode will have you explore an entirely new map created with the assistance of Isaac Childres, completing dungeons, visiting towns and eventually, fighting epic bosses.
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
We will increase the price of the game at full launch, as we offer more features and the campaign. Those who purchased during Early Access will not be charged extra at full release.
Also, the price of the game during Early Access won’t increase due to the additional content added during its development.
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
We love building games with the community and are keen to involve our players in as many ways as possible. We will have beta branches available for players to test and provide us with feedback on the latest updates, along with ongoing discussions on Steam and Discord around design ideas and feedback. We are also providing some limited modding support from day 1 and are keen to expand that further, based on requests from the modding community.
The launch of Gloomhaven is getting close now, with July 17 being just through the next door of the dungeon! Just a few more enemies to defeat and we will be going through that glorious door to reach the release of Early Access!
With the release of Early Access so close, we're releasing a short guide that will be able to get you in the know about the basics and introduce you to Gloomhaven. If you're wanting to know what you will be experiencing on July 17, as well as get a basic rundown of the gameplay, check out our Gameplay Trailer below:
If you happened to miss its release on June 27, you can also view our Teaser Trailer via the link below:
Gloomhaven will be arriving on July 17, featuring four playable characters, a slew of monsters, items and several zones for you to explore through the exclusive Adventure Mode on the new map created in conjunction with Isaac Childres, creator of the board game. All of this will be releasing at the cost of 24.99€ or $24.99.
Gloomhaven’s Early Access will be cheaper than its full launch, as we offer more features and the campaign for the Full Release. However, the price of the game during Early Access won’t increase due to the additional content added during its development. Any players who purchase Gloomhaven during Early Access will obtain full access to the game and its contents for free at Full Release.
Something that we have been hearing from all corners of the city is that everyone wants to know more about how the development of the game will progress once we enter Early Access. In order to cover this, we've created this awesome graphic to show how the game will progress over the coming months and when you can expect specific content or features to arrive.
As you can see, we have plenty of content coming just this year alone. We will be implementing before the end of 2019 both the Tinkerer and Mindthief, alongside a slew of new biomes, enemies, items and bosses. Throughout 2020 we continue this trend, releasing more of the content that will flesh out the game and make the full 95-mission campaign of the board game possible.
By the time we hit full launch of the game we will be, or already have, implemented the entire campaign as well as the multiplayer coop system. We want to make sure that the Full Release of the game will offer the complete digital Gloomhaven experience that even the most die hard fan can celebrate.
If you have any questions about the upcoming Gloomhaven experience on Steam, feel free to ask us all of your questions in the comments section. We will be writing up a full FAQ for you shortly and would like to know more about the burning questions you have about the game.
The last point we want to add is that Gloomhaven is a game that we want to develop with and alongside the community. We will be listening to all of your feedback and implementing features, options, content and making changes based upon what we hear that the community wants to see. So if you're interested in offering us your feedback once the game has launched, or even now, come and join us on the forums or on our social channels!

EARLY ACCESS FAQ
Why are you launching into Early Access? We are launching into Early Access as we want to ensure that we are building a game with our fans. We want to use our Early Access as an opportunity to engage with and receive feedback from our fans about a wide array of subjects and work to ensure that we build the Gloomhaven that will serve best both old and new fans alike!
What can we expect from Gloomhaven's Early Access? At launch you will have access to four characters, several zones and a wide array of enemies through the digital exclusive roguelike we call "Adventure Mode". We will be rolling out more characters, zones and enemies as we progress through Early Access development. Our aim is to have all of the content available in the physical game in the digital version as well.
How quickly will content be rolling out during Early Access? We cannot provide specifics on this right now, but we are hoping to be delivering new content to you on a regular basis.
Will there be co-op play in the Early Access? While we are committed to launching a co-op mode for Gloomhaven, this will be arriving at a later date. We cannot provide specifics for when co-op will be available right now.
Hi! I'm a content creator and would love to try out Gloomhaven and show it to my audience. Can I? While we're not providing access to Gloomhaven right now, we will be as we approach the Early Access launch. We'd love to be in touch with content creators of all sizes, so feel free to reach out to us either through our social channels or our email here: DigitalCommunity@Asmodee.com - Simply put "Gloomhaven Content Creator - Name" in the subject line.
It is always darkest before the dawn, and the light of day is starting to shine over the city of Gloomhaven with all of the information we are giving you today!
Let's start by upping our prosperity rating by revealing the freshly made and beautiful key art for Gloomhaven.
This isn't all we wanted to talk about though!
The temperature continues to rise as summer approaches, which means so too does the power of Sun Demons... To counter this, we will be launching Early Access to all mercenaries this Summer!
As I'm sure you're all greedy sellswords who keep wanting more, we have more glorious news planned for you that will be released in the near future. So be prepared for a barrage of tantalizing information to whet your appetite for Gloomhaven!
Be sure to add Gloomhaven to your wishlist to stay informed about updates on this blog or keep your eyes on our social channels to stay aware of what's happening. We may also potentially announce a certain date that a lot of wandering travelers have been searching for! 😉
We'll see you back in the streets of Gloomhaven soon!
It was a crazy announcement last time and we're thrilled with the reception of online cooperative play. We're trucking through work on everything Gloomhaven and are working hard to bring you all the news from this dark, distant realm... Today I am here to talk with you about the wide array of monsters that we've already announced across our social channels!
Take caution, this blog will contain visuals of monsters you will meet throughout play of Gloomhaven. If you want to avoid SPOILERS, turn back now!
We wanted to give you a place to be able to find all the amazing monsters that we have revealed, so here you have it: Gloomhaven's Monster Madness!
---- Bandit Guard ------------------ Elite ---- ------- These are your regular fighter enemies. They deal some decent damage in melee and can throw knives at you from afar. In general, they are a simple enemy to deal with.
---- Bandit Archer ------------------ Elite ---- ------- The Bandit Archer is your regular ranged enemy. Capable of dealing lots of damage at range, but has low resistances and health.
---- Living Bones ------------------ Elite ---- ------- The Living Bones is an annoying pile of skeletal remains. They have a lot of shields and regen, but aren't able to accomplish much damage and can only do so in melee range. These enemies are hard to kill, but overall aren't dangerous unless in high numbers!
---- Living Corpse ------------------ Elite ---- ------- These walking corpses are big, slow moving juggernaughts. What they lack in defenses, they make up for in HP and attack damage. This is an enemy you're going to need to kite as he moves slow, but when he gets in range will smack you hard!
---- Living Spirit ------------------ Elite ---- ------- The Living Spirit is an incredibly squishy, but makes up for that with shields that regenerate. You'll want to deal with these quickly as they have very high damage attacks from range.
-------- Cultist ------------------------ Elite -------- ------- The Cultist is overall a very weak enemy. They have low HP with minimal resistances and no serious attacks. While alone they are not dangerous, these Cultists can heal themselves and their allies, as well as summon up Living Bones. You best defeat them before they summon up too many!
---- Sun Demon ---------------------- Elite ---- ------- The Sun Demon lives up to its name. It is an incredibly dangerous enemy with average health. It always hits with advantage, meaning it will only ever take the strongest modifier that is drawn.
Night Demon Elite The Night Demon, like the Sun Demon lives up to his name. While it doesn't pack the same punch as the Sun Demon, the fact that it always puts you at disadvantage (you take the weakest drawn modifier) makes it hard to kill. When facing this enemy you'll want some guaranteed damage!
The Bandit Commander The Bandit Commander is just outright annoying! He is highly resilient, making him hard to kill. He also has a penchant for running around the room opening doors to inundate you with new foes! You'll need to take this guy out fast!
It has been a couple of months since we last spoke and a lot has been happening since then. We've been forming new features, refining content, slaying bugs that sneak their way into the game, and upgrading everything we can in the world that we are building. We've also had many screenshots and content about the game finding their way onto the internet through our Discord Server and Facebook Group!
If you're wanting to keep up to date on everything Gloomhaven, chat with developers, or just chat with like-minded fans, come join us on these channels!
Today I come before you humbly in order to discuss a topic that has been all-consuming in the minds of many—information about the release date of Gloomhaven. As much as I want to come in here and declare a launch date, we're not quite there yet and do not feel comfortable committing to a specific date right at this moment. While we will unfortunately be missing our projected Q1 launch date by a small margin. To quote Shigeru Miyamoto: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
For all of us developing and working on Gloomhaven—and especially for you, our fans—we want to make sure that you know we cannot commit to a date without being absolutely confident that the game we will deliver to you will be truly worthy of your passion and dedication! Even if the game will be launching in Early Access and won't be the final product, we want to be sure that the content and experience you have will go beyond your expectations.
As we know that this is not the news that you want to hear, let’s talk about
THE GOOD NEWS!
We're excited to announce today that we are going to be implementing a highly requested feature that you as the community have made us well-aware that you want to see: ONLINE COOPERATIVE PLAY
While this mode is still heavily in development, we want to share some of our plans today so that you can know what awaits you within the dark world of cooperative play!
REMEMBER that all of this content is still under heavy development and subject to change. We will continue to offer more information and clarification as development continues.
By the grace of Gloomhaven, this is awesome! What modes is this available in? You will be able to play in both the Adventure and Campaign mode cooperatively with up to three friends, depending on the size of your group of mercenaries.
HELP! I feel I'll need a Tinkerer to figure out how to work this thing! Not to worry, we're designing this system so that even an Inox can work it out! Game modes are not split into a selection of cooperative or single player; instead you can simply invite people to your game to play with you in any mode. Hosts can assign character(s) to whoever joins their game.
A member of our group cannot join us... WE'RE DOOMED TO THE GAMELESS VOID!!! Not to worry! Saves and game modes are not split between solo and cooperative play, nor are they constrained to specific members participating. Simply load up a game you were previously playing with others to continue it solo or to invite less, new, or completely different players to it. But be sure to keep your save for later if you're wanting to keep playing from that point with specific people!
Hey, they stole my turn! Wait... how do turns work in cooperative play? Each turn consists of the same phases as in a normal game, but it is simply broken down in a fashion to allow for multiple players. Each turn starts with your card selection phase where each player selects their cards or Short/Long Rest. The combat phase will play for each character as per normal, with each player taking control when it's their turn to move or make a choice.
So many choices, so little time. Hang on...who's making them anyway? The host has control over choices and decisions that affect the whole party. We are looking into ways we can make this more of a "party choice", or to allow members to offer suggestions on choices. Choices pertaining to a specific character will of course made by the controlling player.
Well, keep going...I MUST KNOW MORE! Cooperative play is an ongoing development for us right now. We'll reveal more information as we can, but we're not ready to talk more about it at this time. We hope you've enjoyed reading about this new experience that we are planning to implement and look forward to you having fun playing Gloomhaven on your computer with friends!
We appreciate all the support and commitment to Gloomhaven that everyone has shown so far! The team is giving its all to deliver the best game they can, so please bear with us a little longer. The light at the end of this deep, dark dungeon is growing ever brighter!
Hello to all of our fellow denizens of Gloomhaven!
So much has been happening over the past months, we dove deep into the development of Gloomhaven and spoke with the developers through Q&As and even a "Making of" video—we are looking to create an episode two in the near future due to interest in the previous one!
Amongst all of this content we've also released information on both our Facebook Group and Discord Server that have caught the attention of the community; more specifically, character reveals! We're excited to talk with you today about the four characters that will be released with the Early Access Roguelike mode.
The Cragheart
The Cragheart is the one that throws rocks and makes explosions! But it is so much more than that in Gloomhaven.
The Cragheart is one of the most versatile classes in the entirety of Gloomhaven and can play a variety of playstyles—a frontline tank, utility through heals and crowd control, or even an AoE damage dealer. Take advantage of the Cragheart's flexibility to complement basically any team, but watch out for its AoE skills which are capable of dealing friendly fire damage!
As such a versatile class, capable of so many ways to play, it is perfect for players of any skill level.
The Spellweaver
The Spellweaver is the most well-rounded mage in the game, but at the same time the most complicated of the starting characters. Like the Cragheart, she is very versatile, able to be played as a ranged glass cannon, a support/utility character, or even a mix. She has a low health pool, meaning you always want to keep her far from the fight, but has some key abilities to help with this. She is capable of preventing damage, healing and even summoning minions.
As a high damage character with lots of cool single target and AoE abilities, as well as the capability to heal and support, she works well in any group to round out the team.
The Brute
The Brute is your team's powerhouse. He is a straightforward character that makes him easy to understand and enjoy for any new player. He has a high health pool and massive single target damage which, at later levels, can pierce through armor! This makes him capable of hitting hard, but also have the ability to take heavy hits in return.
With all of these traits added together, they make him an optimal starting character that can be used for taking down even the tankiest of opponents.
The Scoundrel
The Scoundrel is a guerrilla-style assassin—she gets in range to deal as much damage as possible, then gets out just as quick with stealth abilities. She has super-high damage, but sacrifices defence and utility. She is capable of hitting multiple targets with some of her skills, applying poison to her foes, and assassinating vulnerable targets.
She is straightforward and excels at what she does, making her a solid damage dealing choice for your party. Her looting abilities are also unparalleled, capable of grabbing up gear and gold like no other.
We still have so many things left to reveal (without spoilers 😉) for this amazingly complex and beautiful world that was originally created by Isaac Childres. Even from the starting six characters, we still have the Mindthief and Tinkerer to show off.
We will continue to share as much information as we can with you, without making any spoilers. So be sure to follow our social channels below to stay up to date!
